The egg drop soup was good. I was surprised with the portion size. It was huge. After the soup I couldn't eat all of my egg fu young. I know what I'm eating for breakfast. On Friday, I stopped by China House to place a to-go order--one of my usual spots when I'm craving Chinese food. I typically order a large hot and sour soup along with a full order of Moo Goo Gai Pan. My food was ready in about 10 minutes, which was impressive considering there was a steady stream of customers coming in to pick up their orders. This is a no-frills, very basic spot with limited seating, so it's more geared toward takeout than dining in. That said, the food is consistently solid. The hot and sour soup stands out and is better than what I've had at most other Chinese restaurants, and the Moo Goo Gai Pan is always a reliable choice. this is the most insane delivery experience I've ever had. I ordered through Beyond Menu at 7:30 and my estimated time was 8. That seemed fast to me but the restaurant was close by so whatever. It gets to 8, I check the app, the timer had jumped up to 8:55. No contact from the business, I thought I'd just wait it out for a little bit. I was assuming that it was like doordash where maybe they needed a driver to pick up the order, which wouldn't be the restaurant's fault. At 8:30 I called the restaurant and asked if the food was ready, he said it had been ready for about 15 minutes. I said I ordered through beyond menu, and he said "we don't have enough people to do that." He asked for my phone number so he could -text- me a DoorDash link. The food wasnt even picked up for delivery until 8:35, and it won't be here until 8:45- an hour and forty five minutes after I ordered it. No contact from the business, no text or email for "hey btw it'll be late." An hour and forty five minute delivery for chicken fried rice and crab rangoons, and no one contacted me to tell me there was a delay at any point or that they were routing it through a completely different delivery service. I haven't even gotten the food yet but at this point I'm thoroughly set in never ordering there again because of how ridiculous this experience has been read more

Called ahead to place a takeout order: wonton soup, egg drop soup, crab rangoon, two egg rolls, small house fried rice, Hunan chicken, and Mongolian beef. The total was $57 before tip, and I was given a 10-15 minute pickup window. I arrived at the 10-minute mark, and while it wasn't quite ready, I only had to wait about five more minutes. The restaurant has a small, clean, well-lit dining area with seating for waiting. There's a small shared parking lot, but I had no trouble finding a spot. Overall, I enjoyed the food. It seems like a lot of the good Chinese places are gone. A friend told me about this place, it's close by so I decided to give it a try. I got a shrimp st.paul, shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was really good and the rice and St. Paul were pretty good. It's worth a try if you are needing a fix and in the area. There's plenty of parking because it's located in a strip mall. Came to this location on a weekend Thursday afternoon not really knowing that it was here at first. It's in a convenient location. I originally was going to the great clips next door and after my haircut decided to stop by this location to grab dinner to take home, extremely friendly staff, price is one of the best in Saint Louis as I got fries, half order of hot braised chicken, full order of plain fried rice and 2 drinks for $18.06 which I believe is a good price. But now to the food. The hot braised chicken was decent. Fresh, and good, I did request for it to be fried hard aka make it crispy, unfortunately they failed on that part but I saw the attempt was made. The fries were crispy and good. Plain fried rice, no onions. I really enjoyed it but it really LACKED seasoning. Some thing was off about this fried rice and it came down to seasoning which they didn't do, but I added sweet n sour to give it some type of flavor and all in all it was good. This was definitely a good place a few improvements could be made such as seasoning and actually frying chicken harder to the customer request but other than that everything was perfect! read more

Just got off the road coming in from Alabama. No one wanted to cook so we decided on takeout. This place is my partners go too sooooooo. Pepper Steak & Onion - My Steak was tender and the onions and peppers was just how I like them. They weren't mushy, they still had a nice crunch to them. The sauce was perfectly seasoned. I added one of those pepper packets to it to make it spicer and that was the business right there. Our Chinese takeouts doesn't give us those and they really really should. Steamed Dumplings - These bad boys are plump and juicy. They are hugeeeeee and filling. The dipping sauce is what makes them AMAZING though. Be sure to get extra sauces bcus they are small but one order of the dumplings requires about 3-4 sauces. Mongolian Beef - my daughters dish was just okay but it was because it was very different from any other Mongolian we've ever had anywhere else. It was saturated in black pepper and wasn't full of onions how we expected it also had other veggies in it that we've never had in it either. Would not recommend it. Shrimp Lo Mein - my baby girl dish was tasty too. Had a good portion of veggies throughout the noodles. She had a small order and her only complaint was there was not enough shrimp in comparison to the noodles. I thought it was okay after adding soy sauce to it. It needed a little help. read more

Tables are absent due to COVID and plexiglass covers the entire order area with only a small opening to pass cash or credit cards through. Orders are placed in a plywood box that's shoved through the plexiglass to customers. The whole effect is reminiscent of inner city restaurants in the worst neighborhoods. However, you're going for the food and China House delivers with inexpensive Chinese mainstays, plus--for St. Louisans--the obligatory St. Paul sandwich. My chicken fried rice was acceptable. If you're a native St. Louisan, then you know that there is a difference between county rice and city rice (and you'll also know what those terms mean). STL County rice usually has peas & carrots, and just tastes different all together. So when China House first opened, being that Bridgeton is the county, we thought it'd be the same ole boring county rice. Wrong, were we! To our surprise and delight, we had city rice in the county! It's tastier (greasier), sans those pesky peas & carrots, and it's so good! I don't eat meat, so my normal order is Plain Fried Rice, no egg, extra green onions + extra red pepper. They have these crispy french fries, which I love to get with my rice, in what has to be one of the weirdest food combinations. Warning: there is cross contamination of all foods, so check your order before you leave and as you're eating. I often have to pick out pieces of egg from my rice. Only once did I find a piece of meat. I didn't complain about it, I just picked it out. Also, the rice has sometimes had a burnt flavor. I've noticed this when I ordered later in the evenings. Not sure what that's about. My non-veg*n family loves their dishes too, from egg foo young, to fried rice dishes, to combination plates & St. Pauls. I agree on the large portions, especially for the combination plates. My kids would eat off of a combo plate for days. Cheap eats. Open late on weekends. Weekends and lunch times are extremely busy, so I suggest calling in your order. If you get a busy signal, keep trying. You'll be glad you did. ($5 minimum order for credit/debit card usage.) Whenever I am staying at a hotel near the St. Louis airport, I make a point of stopping by China House. Although this little joint has a half dozen tables, I have never seen anyone eat here - this is a carry-out place all the way. So ignore the trashy eating area (see pic) and just order to go. I always get the potstickers that feature a pork-laden filling inside thick homemade skin. Since potstickers are just an appetizer, I can't help myself and make the mistake of ordering a dish that I won't be able to finish. Yes, the potstickers (6 for $3.50!) will fill you up. There's no comparison! This restaurant serves delicious food at a great price. The portions are more than generous. I've tried a few other places and to me it is just not the same as far as taste. Don't expect anything spectacular when you walk in. It's just your regular place, although I will admit that this one is very clean. Much cleaner than most. I ordered a quick meal (king pao chicken and an egg roll) and didn't have a chance to check it. The person dealing with the food and payment was super-pleasant but was completely overwhelmed. She accidentally gave me an order of sesame chicken and crab Rangoon. I was jotting down a few comments since I like to review any new place I visit. In this case, the nice young lady actually called me back to apologize. For the food, I have to say, it was a 3-star place. Keep in mind that it's take-out Chinese (if I'm judging only take-out, I'd give it 4.xx+ stars) when you read my star rating. For the service, I could tell that it was he busiest time of day...BUT, the person tending to all incoming customers seemed to have a control I can't imagine. She was taking orders from incoming customers, giving orders to the cooks, explaining the menu to an indignant customer and still was able to give me what she thought was mine, take my payment, say "thank you", and keep up the pace. Anyone would understand a simple mistake like this. Even if you were upset by a simple mistake, you could appreciate the situation. Regardless, I got a personal call and an apology. There was no shifting or hoping it would be okay. This restaurant cares what we all think. The people there strive for great food and great service. Although I was given a different dish (one which I often order from others), I'm happy to report that it was quite good. It's a community staple. This gem is located in a strip mall anchored by a grocery store & big box supply chain. It's an established CARRY-OUT with 10-12 tables if you choose to dine-in. I wish more businesses in the area would take their time & engage their customer base (like the owner, her son, & the friendly staff make a concerted effort to do) every day that they're opened. . . Ordered over the phone for pickup. When I had to call back for a change in the order I was told I was ordering from the old menu. Our group all ordered from the combination plate and all the orders were exceptionally delicious! The Crab Rangoons are definitely a must have. The Eggs rolls were just as scrumptious.
