It used to be called China Sun Buffet. Now they call it Luckys Buffet. Nothing really has changed. Same food. Higher prices of course. Their only buffet competition is Empire Buffet near the U of O, but I swear...the food all tastes the same. Orange chicken, General Chow of course, Mongolian beef something, 2 types of soup, and hopefully they have cleaned the restaurant in the past 24 hours? Im not sure about that so with the bland food and a bit dirty, I get the feeling they had to change the name to Lucky's. A solid 2 stars. read more

We get here at lunchtime and the food is fresh and steaming. Obviously, time of day of arrival in a buffet is important. Trays were being replaced as soon as they got low. Tables and floors are clean. Large windows let in a lot of light. I really enjoyed the Orange Chicken and the Sesame Chicken. My favorite part of a buffet is to be able to do a side by side comparison of favorites. The pot stickers that they call Fried Dumplings were really good. The dipping sauce makes the difference. There was a manager walking around with a microphone looking over the food levels. He was telling kitchen staff what they are low on. Obnoxious customers though. Facetime loud talking, checking your bank balance on speaker phone for all of us to know how you are doing financially, uncontrolled kids playing loud volume games on phones... Good fresh hot food, pleasant staff! -could do with a better crop of customers though. read more

It says it's under new ownership. I call BS. Everything is the same in there including the menu; they added a Mongolian Grill section. Otherwise? It's identical. Same plates, same recipes, same staff same everything.... And they have an ant problem. Despite it all, there are a few nuggets of goodness to be panned out of this hot mess. $17.95 dinner these days is hard to beat. I think these guys are just trying too hard in some ways and not trying hard enough in other ways. read more

Not a fan. Everything I wanted to eat was cold (coconut shrimp, chicken stick, chow mein noodles, spring roll). I had hot and sour soup, very bland and not much flavor at all. My family had raved about this place so I was excited to give it a try but was very disappointed. The price would have been comparable if I had a full plate of food but I just couldn't find anything that was warm or that did not look overcooked. This review is based on the food quality for take-out service and not on the ambiance, as we normally just do take-out. We enjoy the food variety, and the quality has improved tremendously since the restaurant was bought by new owner. We enjoyed the coconut sauce shrimp, steak and broccoli, squid, sautéed shrimp and vegetables, mussels, roasted eggplant, and the sushi. You can't beat the price of $9.99 per pound for cooked seafood and sushi. We'll be back for more delicious takeout food. read more

This buffet restaurant needs to work on keeping the buffet clean. There was sauce all over the bar. Some of the spoons to scoop the food were switched to other dishes. Staff need to manage this better, especially since they were not very busy at the time. Overall, the food tasted good, but 1/4 of the hot food dishes were cold. I've lived in Springfield / Eugene for 12 years. One of the first places I went to was China Sun. I have enjoyed it for most of that time. No, it isn't comparable to my favorite places in San Francisco or Los Angeles or Seattle or Portland, but it is local and accessible. Last week I had 2 hours to kill while bride was at a business meeting over dinner hour. I was in the mood for Hot and Sour soup, Mongolian Beef and a couple other things from the buffet. I was seated and walked to the buffet. I usually start with sushi (I know, not Chinese) -- and selected half a dozen pieces. While not usually exceptional, the rice was dry, the tempura shrimp in the center was hard and the selections were bland.. I got my usual cup of Hot and Sour soup. I was hot by temperature, missing any noticeable quantity of white pepper, minimal vinegar and devoid of mushrooms (or other edible fungi). I got my usual serving of Mongolian Beef. It was devoid of any red or green peppers, mostly bland and greasy. On the whole, I walked out into the rain with a mood that matched. One of my favorites failed to deliver anywhere near what I was used to. I'm sad. read more

One of the best buffet Asian restaurants I've been to in the US. And I've been to a lot of them around the country. It's now called Lucky (as of May 2025) but their menu and layout is the same as it was for years when it was China Sun Buffet. From fresh made asian specialties to sushi and fresh made Mongollian Grill they have it all and they keep the trays fresh all day long. If you have been looking for a Chinese Buffet this is one that I would recommend going to. At this Mongolian BBQ & other Chinese staples are offered with a wide variety. If you are wanting to have a party or have a big group this place is perfect sense it's roomy with lots of space. read more

This place is decent if you need a lot of food for a good price, and let's be honest, sometimes that is all you are looking for. Came in around 2:30 pm, was seated quickly at a booth and 3 plates later was out of the restaurant by 3:15 pm. It was decently busy with customers for that time of the day, and the wait staff were quite attentive. I did find that there were not as many vegetarian options as mentioned on the Yelp site. It would have been nice to have a veg fried rice option and maybe another one or two vegetable dishes than just the green beans. They do have a Mongolian BBQ option where you can pick your choice of raw meat, veg and noodles and have it grilled with teriyaki sauce. There is also sushi available, but it looked like it had been sitting out for a while. read more

Before the pandemic we liked this place. The food wasn't great but it was good enough to keep you coming back because it was not all that expensive for what you got. So we finally got together with friends after several years and decided to go back and give it another try. All I have to say is...the memory is much better than the reality of what it is now. For one thing it has a "Mongolian grille"...or so they say. It was not nearly hot enough to cook the food up right. The only seasonings were soy and teriyaki. And the pieces of meat they had were far too thick. And the noodles were very much like spaghetti pasta. The other foods were all over the map. Teriyaki Chicken Skewers were way too salty...butterfly shrimp had a weird seasoning...chicken and crab on a scallop shell was awful. I would not recommend it to anybody. read more

Horrible!! Went at 3:00 and almost everything was cold. They put fresh hot stuff out at 3:30 so went to try some but there were signs that ALL the hot food was not available to those who came in before 3:30! Had no idea that they switched to dinner at 3:30. Never again!!! read more

So one of the employees who was refilling the cold bar used their finger to wipe off the edge of the salad dressing and then wiped their finger into the salad dressing container. They then proceeded to do this with a different dressing container which is not only gross in its own right but food contamination as well. Some food was fresh. A lot was not. The flavors were a bit off In my opinion as well. The Mongolian grill was decent. I felt fine after eating but didn't get too risky. Had all cooked foods, no salad or anything. Worth a try and I'm sure it's decent if they're busy. read more

HORRIFFIC!!!! I've never even had to write a poor review before. I witnessed a young lady be ASSAULTED by the restaurant owner and staff today over an unsatisfactory add on menu item. I overheard the couple tell the staff that the sushi was so awful she wasn't able to eat it. Her boyfriend was happy to pay their buffet bill, and even invited us to go ahead of him to pay while he tried discussing the discrepancy. Before I knew it, there was a loud commotion and I witnessed waitstaff and the owners begin to scream at these people, accuse them of theft inches within their face, even mocking the girl as she was crying almost nose-to-nose!! I was shocked!! As the couple tried to leave to escalate, the male owner and staff began accusing them of theft. They then began to GRAB her repeatedly, pulling at her arms to grab her take away box.... It was absolutely VILE! I will NEVER recommend this place and I'm ashamed to have given them any business. There were others in the restaurant who saw this, too. As far as I know, multiple recordings were made and law enforcement has been contacted. SHAME ON YOU, CHINA SUN BUFFET! read more

EW! As someone else mentioned, they handle food with their bare hands. I asked her to put gloves on and she said somegthing I couldn't understand and stomped away. The person refilling the food spilled some and used his bare hand to toss it in with the rest-EW! I didn't see this before we started or we would have left. We asked three times for something we never got-noodles for the soup that weren't stale. We asked three times for ice cream cones. I went to someone else and asked. Then, they pulled out a box and reached in with bare hands and put them out. SO GROSS!! I'm calling the health department Monday. This place needs to be shut down. I asked for a manager and the cashier snapped that she wasn't there. I asked for someone in charge. She snapped that no one was there. I told her no one was wearing gloves. Ate dinner here on a Saturday and Sunday while visiting family. I'm from California so I've been to a variety of Asian buffets. China Sun had good food and decent service for the price. For dinner I think it was $18 per adult, they also have a discount for seniors I think $16? Children are half price. Food: I mostly enjoyed the Mongolian BBQ station where you fill your plate with noodles, meats, and vegetables and they'll cook it in your choice of 3 sauces for you. Saturday was pretty busy so I noticed the food was replenished faster than Sunday night. I did encounter some cold dishes on Sunday despite being under what I thought were heat lamps so minus 1 star. There were less people on Sunday night too, so less need to replace food I suppose. Service: Both nights we were quickly seated, and they gave us our drinks quickly. The server who seated us on Sunday was very nice. My dad is disabled and has a hard time walking so she offered to grab him a dessert plate if he wanted anything. Definitely will be back next time I'm in town visiting. read more

There was nothing good I can say about this place except it's reasonably priced. The fried food was cold and lacked flavor. I had the made to order hibachi and the meat was so tough you couldn't chew it (beef). The sushi was ok but pretty basic. Even the soup wasn't hot. China Sun, in the past has been a favorite of mine. There was lots of variety, including higher end entrees that one doesn't usually see and the food was always good, hot and fresh, much better than your run of the mill Chinese Buffet. The last several times I went there the food was awful. I was hoping it was just a bad day, but food and service have consistently gone down hill. Entrees were seldom refreshed, the food was cold and entrees were dried out and tough. It seemed like the staff didn't care. Once I got my drink, no one came around and they took a long time even to bring the check even though there were few people there. It will be a long time before I go back. Went there with my kids and wife,every thing looked fresh and trays filled,with food,got our plates,Food was cold ,we ended up leaving,an over charged us,made us pay for our kids plates,we refused to pay for ours we didnt eat barely anything,wife an kids got sick,this restaurant needs checked for cross contamination..they just take the bottom of the food in the old containers an put old food ontop of fresh food,they dont throw away the old food wich probably been sitting there for awhile...very upset,hope they get shut downnso no one else gets sick ,i wanna see food handler cards,and temperatures of the food,1/10 read more

Ok, so right now there are a lot of places to eat and to be honest who is not struggling given the circumstances. I went in here today with an open mind and I was very happy with the food and service. I had some main dishes and then a cook to serve dish. I think that given all the different foods on my plates I would not complain! I picked it and I ate it, no waste which should be expected. I came away full dumb and happy, left a 25% tip and was thinking, you know that was nice, I did not over eat and the food tasted as I expected. I have been going to China Sun for many years. With 3 boys, volume is important. Last month I went and did not notice that the hostess was not there Were seated by gentleman at register. It soon became apparent there were no waitresses, none at all. Also no stir fry man . The ribs were burned into briquettes. The salt and pepper prawns also burned. Attempted to request a partial refund but the one person there did not understand English. Never again! read more
