I finally stopped over for Chinese food because I was craving it for a while and yes the low stars did didn't get me to hurry over. I don't do buffets but I would do something off the menu and get it to go. The place looked a little dumpy but at 4:30 on a Thursday it was actually at probably a full 25% capacity with C19 rules so that was a good sign. I ordered the General's Taos chicken dinner combination plate that comes with pork fried rice and egg roll to go and it was around $10 which is not much less than the buffet but I could get three meals out of it. The egg roll was average and a smaller one which is the norm now with a mushy filling, no fresh crunchy veggies at all. The Generals Taos chicken was all dark meat in a sweet sauce and all you could taste was sweet as the flavor. The pork fried rice had weird plump grains and enough bigger chunks of pork for a combination fried rice but once again not very flavorful with peas, onions and carrots that had some crunch left in the. The broccoli garnish was cooked perfect with some crunch left in it and not mushy. Overall this was just one of those average Americanized Chinese food restaurants and will not replace my favorite places. read more

Have not been to a buffet in ages. Friends wanted to go so I tagged along. I remembering them being a huge smorgasbord of delicious food. Boy was my recollection wrong. Yes the selection was decent but there were only two main flavors: bland or salty. Definitely felt my sodium intake go thru the roof on my first dish. The food is almost all very good , A- . Being a buffet you have to hunt for fresh offerings but the vast selection is impressive. Ambiance: C- , noisy, crowded and not very clean. The food was not worth what we paid which was about $30 each. Nothing was even WARM. They only use styrofoam cups and dishes, plastic utensils too. The surrounding tables had trash on them with no occupants. Someone tried to enter the restaurant without a shirt. The floor felt sticky. We just ate the mushrooms, green beans, and soup which seemed to be the least likely to give us stomach issues. I tried a crab rangoon but it was hard and stale. It hurt to chew. I wouldn't recommend spending $30 person on this place. If you want to be thoroughly depressed and go to a place where employees leaves their cart of everyone's garbage, half eaten food, saliva, and backwash right in front of your table while you eat, then come here! Really Great Buffet, too many items to try all of them! My wife loved the fish, she ate several different fish items and all were great! The cons of this restaurant are several, but none have to do with the food! Carpets need replacing, you can only clean restaurant carpet so long then it has to go! Yikes... my first reaction coming in, I'm thinking... hmm this place is a little rough. I walk up to the counter as a young kid comes up saying "excuse me, your bathroom is really bad. Like really really bad. Someone needs to clean it right away." At this point I'm about to hand my card to the man at the counter thinking, "oh god, is it too late to turn around and leave?" But I stay. I hesitantly use the bathroom (thank god the women's is not "really really bad") but the soap dispensers are broken. The lids are off, giving me the impression that people dip their hands into the soap. Dipping my hands into the open soap, I question how I arrived here in my life. When I finally approach the buffet, I'm very skeptical and a little fearful. I take what seems like it could be ok and looks kind of authentic. I skip past the sushi and cold shrimp without a second thought. Everything is kind of disappointing. A few things are alright, but most of the entrees I get are below average. This place is unbelievably busy but I don't plan on returning ever again. I believe this is the only New China Buffet that serves Pho, so I guess that's a plus for it if you've never tried it. I myself have already ate Pho on many occasion, the Pho here is pretty average, but if you never tried it, this place is a good place to try it out. The place is always packed with people, children running around and people walking slowly when deciding on what food they're least afraid of trying. Most of the tables at the front of the restaurant are usually filled up, so you'll have to go to the tables in the "party room" Food is meh, even for your average Chinese buffet tier, its still meh. You're better off going to another Chinese buffet or even a different New China Buffet if you want better food. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but you could find better elsewhere. read more

Disgusting Don't get me wrong - I love New China Buffet. Just not the 27th Street location. I have been to this location in the past because I figured it was close to home and I already knew I liked the Hwy 100 location as well as the Bluemound Rd location. I however, got sick after my first visit the the 27th Street location. While I was there, I found pieces of chicken that had a green tint to them. When I showed the owner, he said that's how the chicken is supposed to be... NO. Now its been years since this incident and in reading the reviews on here that say it is improved, I decided to try it again last Saturday (5/9/15). I should have walked right back out the door and headed to the Hwy 100 location. The entire place looks like it hasn't been cleaned since before my first visit about 5 years ago! The people that were there eating were still just as trashy. The food was horrible. Many of the things that I tried were overly crispy from being out too long. Everything tasted off. So once again I left feeling sick and unsatisfied. I don't see this location ever being an option for me again. read more

My fiancée loves this place, so we end up coming here once every couple weeks it seems. I guess I owe it a re-review considering how many times I've been in here. It is somewhat improved. They seem to have cleaned up their act a little bit. Months ago, everything seemed to just sit endlessly; I've noticed that they've become much better about refreshing the food and keeping things fresh. I used to avoid their egg foo young because they would look like they'd sat under a heat lamp all day--now they are actually quite edible. Their soups have also improved. They used to get a thin, disgusting film across the top from sitting stagnant; now they look much fresher. I've been on a hot and sour soup kick lately, and while the soup here isn't as good as you could get by ordering it from a regular Chinese restaurant, it resembles hot and sour soup well enough to satisfy the craving. The place has gotten a lot less busy, too. And the people who come in there now are a little less trashy. There's still the occasional kid screaming or running around the buffet area (which, I mean, asking for that to change would be to asking someone to move mountains) but the adults at least are better behaved. If you want my cynical, mean reason why this might be the case here it is: the trailer park next to the strip mall this is in has been boarded up. I'm aware another location of New China Buffet recently had a run-in with the health department and I have no illusions that things are done any differently here, but at least it *looks* cleaner than it used to. To summarize: the food has gotten a little better and I no longer feel like I'm going to run into Jim Bob or step on his kid every time I take a step. That's worth a star read more

Yes, it's food. Yes, it's a lot of food. Yes, it's a great value. No, it's not extraordinary. No, I didn't get sick. No, I don't feel good about myself after eating there. The first two stars are for the food, the third is for the selection. I've yet to meet a Chinese buffet in Milwaukee worth any more than three stars, including this one. I feel the purpose of a Chinese buffet is to "strap on the feed bag" and prepare for a competitive eating event contest. I will give them credit for one of the largest lunch buffet selections in Milwaukee. Most of it is very edible although I question how much of it is prepared fresh or began the day sealed in a freezer bag. This location has recently expanded and its always packed at lunch. The advantage of that is that the warmers are constantly being replenished. You might want to stay away from the fish and other various seafood-type items. I don't see people going for them very often. Please note the display of foreign currency at the cash register. It contains the largest Chinese note in circulation, worth about $20 USD as well as many other interesting Asian currencies. read more

One night I tried the "New China Buffet" on Hwy 100 with my daughter and we liked it. Driving down 27th street, I noticed there was one closer to our home and thought that the next time we went we would just hit that location up. So on Friday February 12, 2016 we did. First off, the place was just packed. Just finding a clean table to sit at was hard. When we finally did, we were located right under the T.V. which was up quite loud. Looking around, I noticed the place was not in the best shape. The walls were filthy, the floor was dirty, and booths were in poor condition. The atmosphere was one of the trashiest I have ever dined at. This place was nothing like the Hwy 100 location, which isn't the best, but was much better than this place. I kind of wanted to leave, but since we were hungry and paid to eat we gave it a go. So we went to get our food through the mob of rude patrons pushing their way in to get what the wanted. The first plate I went to grab, had some food residue on it, so I opted for another. Then I grabbed a fork and it was dirty as well. I grabbed another and went about searching for something to eat. Overall, the food was okay. I really can't complain about the quality of it. The buffet was full of many hot choices. I found a few things to my liking, it was just the atmosphere I was eating this food in that made me wonder - If the dining room was so dirty, what is the kitchen like? I guess I really don't want to know. So we ate and left. Thankfully we didn't get sick. We won't be back to this location and I'm sure I won't be missed. They seem to do a pretty good business without us. I just don't know why anyone would want to patronize this location? Do they like eating in dirty places? Maybe their own homes aren't very clean? My boyfriend and I decided to go here because it's been there forever and I wanted him to try it for his first time. Upon arriving we instantly regretted coming. The walls were stained yellow, the seats were torn/ripped and there were kids running around and playing on the floor which was being swept not vacuumed. But trying to give it the benefit of the doubt we paid and ate anyway. Immediately after not even finishing my first plate I felt sick to my stomach. I had grilled chicken, sweet and sour chicken and teriyaki chicken which was luke warm AT BEST. Drank some water and tried some fruit and it was completely mediocre. Now almost an hour and a half later I still feel sick to my stomach. The only good thing was the quickness of the plates being taken away which I contribute to the fact it was not very busy. Sushi, not ok and not bad, rice is hard. There is a lot of deep fried foods, (I can't believe it: chicken nuggets! At a Chinese buffet?!) there's a lot of selections. Not that good in quality, thats why the location speaks for itself. Everything (EVERYTHING) is piled high, just thrown on there and let us pick it off. There's probably about 3 out of....everything there that I actually liked and enjoyed. Otherwise, my first time there...$12 per person - price moderate, food quality - cheap. But personally I won't be going there again due to several reasons of my own opinion. The owner/ cashier eating at the table across from mine.....He clearly saw this filth, He did nothing.
