I'm going to be honest, I avoid take out chinese like the plague. However, a coworker recommended this place, and the reviews here were great. When someone mentioned the orange chicken was white breast meat, I was sold! I ordered the orange chicken and brown rice. With the Eat24 coupon, it came to about $11 which was awesome. There was SO much food, I really wasn't expecting that. There was enough for me to have for dinner, and two more servings for lunch the next day for my husband and I. I liked the orange chicken and will definitely order it again, though I wish it were more tangy like I come to know and love about orange chicken. Worst experience ordering by far! We ordered black pepper squid and received fried frost bitten pieces of what appear to be yellow thin plastic. I got a piece lodged in my throat and couldn't swallow because I was coughing, and choking. The driver was super rude and stated arguing with me about a parking spot. Asked me to come to the street so he wouldn't have to leave his car by actually DELIVERING my food to my door! Like seriously!! The fried rice that I got for free was awesome! Want more of that. I have only been here once and it definitely does the job for cheaper-ish Chinese food in Magnolia. I had the veggie hand cut noodles (which were 5 Star), mostly because I haven't had them in such a long time and they were particularly good, and the Sesame Chicken (which was 3 Star), not horrible but pretty normal. I definitely will be back to try the hand cut barley noodles and probably order extra veggies. The noodles were delish! read more

This was the first time I ordered from here, looked ok. The delivery was fast, however....the food was absolutely horrible. The BBQ pork was very dry and had a awful chemical kind of taste. The fried food was very, very over cooked. I could go on. I called to talk to them about it and was yelled at and hung up on. No, really. First time trying New China Express for delivery. As another reviewer mentioned, trying to order online via their website was less than successful -- the website is quite slick and seems to work well, but there is some problem that seems to prevent it from accepting credit cards properly. To be fair, the website is operated by a third party (beyondmenu.com) that hosts menus and online ordering for a number of restaurants, so it's not really New China Express' fault. Anyway, I gave up on that and just ordered the old-fashioned way, by calling them on the phone. That was no trouble, and the food arrived pretty quickly, perhaps about half an hour (we live nearby). The price was very reasonable, the amounts of food were far more than we expected (leftovers!), and it was delicious. My wife had the wonton soup, and it was chock full of crisp, fresh cooked vegetables, nothing soggy. I had the 'house special' fried rice (which turns out to mean combo of the meat/vege options), and it was excellent. We'll definitely order from New China again, and if they get the online ordering sorted out, that would push them five stars for me. Meanwhile, just call them on the phone. read more

For those of you who have had bad experience. My experience is best if you call directly. Food is delivered fast and hot and you get better customer service. Online ordering is probably through a 3rd party vendor and at your own risk. Consistency is not the best I order the same things usually and they vary from really good to ??? What was that. I will have to say that this is my favorite Chinese-American restaurant in Seattle so far. Their Honey Walnut Prawns are the best I have ever had anywhere. The gentleman who delivered was seriously cute and seriously charming. The food didn't live up to his charm. Fried prawns, egg rolls, and crab cheese would have been stellar except for one thing. They were all undercooked. Not undercooked to the point of being inedible but they all needed an extra minute or two in the fryer. The fried prawns especially would have been "the best ever" if only cooked longer. Shrimp egg foo yung and sweet and sour pork weren't bad, just unremarkable. Of note, the shrimp were nicely sized. None of those stupid baby shrimp, and they were cooked beautifully! Not overdone to the point of being rubbery. I'm not giving up on NCE since they are so close to where I live. Summary: Do not eat here! Terrible food, and horrifying "service." Can't understand how this place ever got 4 stars. There are plenty of low reviews for a reason. Try somewhere else. After reading reviews online, I was happy to find this place and that we lived just a couple minutes away. We ordered the hand shaven noodles with pork, barley green pot stickers, egg flower soup, wonton soup, kung pao prawns, mangolian beef, and egg rolls for delivery. The food was cold upon delivery, which isn't a big deal to me, but the food was flavorless. Kung pao had no spice (I've had better from Panda Express than this), the soup and mangolian beef were in desperate need of salt, the pot stickers tasted like food coloring and dough, our hand shaven noodles (also lacking flavor) with PORK had only some traces of meat but plenty of CHICKEN skin, and the egg rolls were actually spring rolls. The ingredients were definitely not fresh. I can't say anything about the wonton soup though because it was left out of our order along with our sides of rice. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. We called and said we were not happy with our food and would like a refund due to the quality and missing items. The woman there immediately started accusing us of trying to get a free meal. We told her we were more than happy to bring the food back but she refused yelling at us saying we were trying to cheat her. We asked if there was someone else available to speak with and she told us no one else was there and she was the only one at the restaurant and if we wanted a refund we should contact EAT24.com where we placed the order. We called EAT24 and they were kind and apologized. They offered to call the restaurant for us. After to speaking with restaurant, they told us the restaurant said they would not authorize a refund and we should have called sooner if we were unhappy even though we called within 25 minutes of receiving our order. We called the restaurant back ourselves and again they told us call EAT24 for a refund though they were the ones blocking the refund and continued accusing us of trying to scam them. At this point, we were pretty frustrated and offended by their service and we drove to the restaurant to return the food. Upon arriving, it was clear that there were several others, not just the woman on the phone. We said we spoke to her on the phone and brought the food to show it was still there. She began opening every box and picking through the food. She then began yelling that we were trying to cheat her because 2 of the 8 "egg rolls" were missing. I said that I was more than willing to pay for what was missing other than the items not delivered. They denied forgetting any items and again accused us of eating it otherwise we would have called sooner. Now, I am so annoyed and angry that I tell them I am done arguing and just want money for what is there since that seems to be the biggest obstacle. They then tell me they will not issue any refund even for the nearly untouched items saying, "It's not our problem if you don't like our food." I was shocked by this. I have worked in several restaurants before and understand how difficult and unreasonable customers can be and do my best not to complain even when things fall short of expectations but this was just ridiculous. Poor food is understandable but to yell at customer calmly requesting a refund and to accuse them of trying to steal or cheat is completely unacceptable. They even refused to return my the $25 cash tip for the $80 order. A horrifying experience through and through. As I said before, poor quality of food is understandable and forgivable but the treatment we received by the staff (quite possibly ownership) is not. read more

Another hour later, I called back and they "thought" the driver was on the way. They promised me a discount but I would have to go through Eat24 to get it. They denied the discount entirely. My partner and I order for pickup when we are high and don't have anything to eat. We've had the best luck with dishes that are sort of trashy fried chicken, like Sesame Chicken and Gereral Tso's. To my knowledge, they can't to tofu well at all and the eggplant was ok. Hand shaven noodles were good, but not the best thing in the world. Don't waste your money on this greasy non flavorful food. We usually order from Golden City or New Pandasia , but thought we'd try a new place.. Almond chicken is fried chicken with a side of almond extract ( no joke) dipping sauce.. Pork chow mein had zero flavor and could blot all the grease with napkins!! Gross!! Just moved to Magnolia - I've eaten here 3 times now and 5 stars all the way! Tonight's delivery of Orange Chicken, Shrimp fried Rice and hot/sour soup hit the spot. Not coming back. The flavors weren't bad, but the portions were small for the price we paid. Ordered honey walnut shrimp, egg flower soup, and fried rice. There were about 10 pieces of prawns (though large) for $14. The flavor was okay, but not something that we would come back. Egg flower soup lacked some flavor. What cheap food! I ordered delivery from this restaurant through the eat24 app. The delivery time was great. The food quality was horrible! The orange beef tasted old nd hardly had an orange flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was bland and the sauce wasn't anything special, tasted like it was poured from a jar. On top of that, I ordered hand noodles and was delivered egg foo young. We've ordered from here twice now via Eat24. I have no idea what the place looks like, it could be Chinese food made in the back of a van for all I know. But the delivery guys both time have been very nice and polite, and the food comes pretty quickly. The first time we ordered, I had sweet and sour chicken which I didn't really care for (the chicken chunks were like the size of breasts). This second time I got orange chicken and it was really really good! Crispy, great flavor, nice spice to it. The crab rangoons weren't my favorite, but we also got eggrolls which weren't too bad.
