Food was great. Highly recommend. Probably my new Chinese food spot. And that's saying a lot!

Sesame chicken was horrible! It had been cooked in very old oil and it tasted disgusting.

Some of my new coworkers wanted to try this place since they had not experienced what the rest of us did all those years ago. And I did say I would update my review once I tried the food again. The food today was picked up around lunch time and while it was very hot and looked promising, it was another let down. The rice. Gosh. I don't know what it is about the rice at this place but it really does taste just like cardboard. The shrimp are laughably small, bland, and are used so sparingly - adding absolutely nothing extra to the dishes which utilize this sad ingredient. Also, it's been a few hours and the coworker who ordered the shrimp dish had to leave work early, stating they didn't feel well. We'll see what happens buuuut at least I gave this place another shot. It's too bad. Good Chinese food is so difficult to find in Arizona. Maybe it's the Valley palate because the fact that people actually like this food exemplifies to me a certain lack of exposure to real Chinese-American flavors. read more

The House Special Lo Mein smelled so bad that I had to open the windows and turn on the air conditioner to ventilate the house. It was absolutely rancid! The seafood they put in there was spoiled and the noodles smelled like it had been stored away for decades. The Hot and Sour soup was watery! It had the consistency of a broth you can buy at the grocery store. Usually this soup has a consistency closer to an egg drop soup than a beef broth. I went to New China 15 minutes before closing and the food was amazing. I ordered chicken lo mein and beef and broccoli. It was very fresh hot and delicious. Service was quick too. So besides being pretty dirty in the open area of this restaurant the staff up front isn't very pleasant either. I called to place an order and the first thing out of the woman's mouth was "WHAT YOU WANT" ok.......so yes I did call a restaurant for a food order but a " Hello, thanks for calling New China" would have been ok I my opinion first. That really wasn't to bad but it did take my be surprise to the point where I actually laughed out loud because it was so unexpected. I think because I laughed she was mad at me. So I place my to go order and no "good bye or thank you" I was hung up on. Again, no big deal some people are just that way. I wait my 10-15 minutes and go inside and standing behind this plastic barrier 3 feet by 5 feet tall, that was covered with all sorts of debris, is a woman who did not look happy. So I tell her I'm there to pick up a to-go order and she yells to the back for the order. I pay with a card that she tells me to slide under the divider and once she processes it the slides it back through and it slides into the ground. As I look around I see all sorts of stuff on the tables, floor, counter, side of soda machine, ceiling, walls, and crumbs on her chin. I let it all go take my food and leave. I was very hesitant about even trying the food I ordered but I did try it and straight into the trash it went, not because it was or looked bad, because of everything I saw all around me when I was inside. Just didn't sit well with me. I figured if it was that bad upfront what must it look like behind the curtain separating the kitchen from the dining room. Oh well, I wanted to try it and I gave it my best. Now, feel free to give this place a try because this was just my experience and maybe it was a bad day. Maybe your experience will be different. My body was in shock from a pasta pot luck at work a couple days ago. Today my body needed broccoli!!! I was gonna grab some at Basha's then I saw the little Chinese restaurant a couple doors down looking like the "whole in the wall" restaurant that i have been accustomed to, being born and lived in Chicago for 36 years. I told the kind lady behind the counter that I wanted something with broccoli. She suggested chicken, beef, or shrimp. I choose shrimp. I also decided to order the hot and sour soup. I got home and was 100% fulfilled!! The soup was perfectly flavored with slices of mushrooms, thin strips of bamboo shoots, and freshly fried wonton strips on the side. Now the shrimp with broccoli was in a slightly sweetened soy sauce. I was expecting a white sauce however the simple yet flavorful soy sauce really enhanced the broccoli and shrimp. The broccoli was so fresh and shrimp cooked perfectly. I couldn't stop eating the broccoli. I am completely satisfied. I saw shrimp lobster sauce and egg foo young on the menu those are two of my tell alls! So yes I'll be back when those cravings start or in need of fresh broccoli again!! read more

Food, service and ambiance all need serious work/upgrade! This is one place that I do not plan to visit again.

The staff was friendly. Thw food was hot, but it was terrible. While it appeared that everything was made to order (as opposed to a steam table) there was no authentic Chinese flavor. I ordered vegetable lo mein, and an order of potstickers to share; my friend ordered cashew chicken. The food was served on cheap paper plates, the egg drop soup in cheap paper bowls. Utensils were plastic (I opted for chop sticks.) The potstickers were over fried and crunchy. The filling, however was good. The vegetable lo-mein was a brown soy sauce gravy with a couple pieces of broccoli and pea pods. The cashew chicken had about 8 cashews, weird meat that didn't seem like chicken and too much celery and carrots. The celery and carrots were undercooked. The cashew chicken had the same brown soy sauce gravy. The place had zero ambience, which would have been fine if the food was delicious. read more

Don't believe everything you read! I don't get all the negative reviews. We've ordered the Singapore Mei Fun here a few times and always find it very good and authentic. We carry out and it's piping hot when we get home. read more

I blame myself for ordering here before reading the Yelp reviews. I do not recommend the seafood fried rice. It has imitation crab, a couple of small shrimp, and an unidentified ingredient that looks like a potato. The only vegetable was a couple pieces of onion. It's blah. Absolutely not worth the $11.25 I paid for it. I also do not recommend the cashew chicken. The chicken tasted breaded which makes no sense. I asked for no bamboo shoots and requested onions instead but they went to town adding celery instead which I also despise. The hot and sour soup is very thick and gelatinous. I asked for 2 more bags of crispy noodles and was charged $2 extra. One of the bags had half the amount of the other 2. The pepper steak with onions was good and is the only item I would recommend from my $47 order. read more

This place is good for bad Chinese if that makes sense. When you first walk in you notice the place is hot, it's 90 outside, and it smells bad. The employees are not friendly, but they aren't rude or hostile. They are attentive and the service was quick. It should be noted this is a place you order up front then sit down. Food: egg rolls were pretty good, an 8 of 10. General Changs tasted more like sweet and sour. Rather "corn starch slurry" tasting like another said. Definately not crispy or spicy like they normally are. Not great consistency or tasting. 4 of 10 Sesame beef was similar to above and tasted rather like the General Changs, 4 of 10. You might wonder why it's a 3 star: well it's cheap by todays standard and expectations for this kind of place low to begin with. Its a quick and cheap lunch place on a budget. The egg rolls help to. If you want a good Chinese place, it's not here. It's acceptable for what kind of place it is. The 2.5 stars it has overall is pretty accurate. read more

Is this Shrimp Fried Rice for real or we'll just give you anything and think you won't know the difference rice? I love Asian Cuisine and I eat it a few times a a week. This was my first time trying New China in Mesa, AZ. I placed my order online and drove to pick it up only to be disappointed when I got home. There was not an egg, a pea, or a carrot in my rice only imitation shrimp and onions. I didn't get any soy sauce , utensils or fortune cookie either!! This was the worst shrimp fried rice I've ever had and I don't appreciate the inconvenience of having to make a review instead of calling the restaurant who has the nerve to be closed on Monday. Today we had a very tasty to go meal. Steamed dumplings were very tasty & not too doughy. Singapore mei fun and House mei fun were great. The Singapore noodles had the just right amount of curry. I ordered the hot and sour soup on Postmates and was extremely disappointed. They used too much corn starch slurry - the consistency was very thick. I ordered spicy and there was almost no flavor. I added a bunch of Chinese mustard to get some spice and flavor. The included fried won ton pieces were beyond greasy and light in color - I think the oil is not hot enough and it they just absorbed it instead of frying. This was the first and definitely the last order I'll be making for New China. I blame myself for not checking reviews first because this experience is on brand for the place. read more

My husband and I usually order Chinese takeout from a place down the street. We received a coupon for New China for free fried rice so we decided to order from there tonight. The moment I walked into the restaurant, I was warmly greeted by a young blonde woman at the front register. The atmosphere was incredible. Now to the food.... the fried rice tastes fresh and not greasy at all! I got the crispy beef... amazing. My husband got the General Tsos Chicken and Hunan Shrimp... best he's ever had. Uneven... last 2 times I got food from here, the rice they used for fried rice was undercooked, with a chalky texture.

Thought we'd try someplace different and local. This food is just bad. Moo Shu Chicken is watery and the dry folded pancakes serve no purpose. Beef with Black Bean Sauce is tasteless and 70% chunks of green pepper. Beef is tough and stringy. Black Bean Sauce is so obviously watered down. Pork Egg Rolls are fair, but not worth 1.75 ea. In addition the woman at the counter spent the whole time we were in there screaming at her kids who were doing their homework. Who wants to hear this? There's so much bad Chinese food in this part of the East Valley (that means you Hot Wok and Simi's Cafe) but this is way at the bottom. Save your money and avoid at all costs. read more

My wife and I have been trying to support this location since we moved nearby in 2005. However, time and time again we are disappointed. Many times the food is bland or just plain awful. We recently ordered takeout and the fried rice dish tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil. We threw it out. Sorry to say that was our last order New China. How to know it the Chinese restaurant is LEGIT 1) spelling & grammar mistakes on the menu. 2) non-smiling, no-nonsense lady working the counter. 3) pictures of every dish on the wall. You want your ass kissed by some fake waitress? Small talk from some vapid ASU student asking you how your day was? Then go elsewhere. This is a Chinese food place. This food is amazing, very easy coast. I love legit, kinda greasy, yummy, delicious Chinese food. Great prices, great tasting food, and lots of it. Super healthy? No. Great decor & friendly staff? Not really. (the cook did smile and say "you like?" I gave him a thumbs up.) Seriously, I know I am having fun with this review, but on the real? This place RULES. Delicious. We got a flyer for this restaurant a few weeks ago, and it said it delivered, so we decided to try it out last night. This restaurant was okay, at best. The delivery itself didn't take too long, which was refreshing. It was a bit difficult to order, as there was a bit of a language barrier. The food was, again, okay. The hot & sour soup was the biggest disappointment. It was super bland- which was so sad because it's usually my favorite food! The orange chicken was actually surprisingly flavorful, and very orange-y. The vegetable lo mein was also pretty good. The rice that came with the meal was too mushy, but it wasn't a big deal. Overall, it wasn't fantastic, but the convenience of delivery will keep us coming back. read more

Definitely do not judge a book by its cover this little hole in the wall may not look too appealing and may have a funky smell when you walk in lol But it has amazing fast food Chinese I highly recommend this place I'm very picky with my Chinese food as from me being from Los Angeles and this place definitely is good Mongolian beef amazing flavor and just the right amount of spice. We are new to the North Mesa Area and have tried 3 different Chinese restaurants and have been disappointed every time. We decided to try New China on the way home and we absolutely LOVE this place. The guy at the register was so nice and helpful, food was ready earlier than quoted, they had condiments and Togo stuff ready for guests to grab. We ordered sweet and sour chicken which was so good! They automatically put the sauce on the side to prevent it from getting soggy, and we totally appreciated that. The pan fried pot stickers were the best I've ever had, the sauce was the perfect amount of flavor. We also got the beef lo mein which was amazing. This place is great and well worth the money. Everyone is genuine and friendly. Respectable food. Perfect fried rice. It's not fast food, or a buffet, or a generic chain Chinese place. It has that more authentic taste to it. So if you love Chinese food, you'll enjoy this place. If your taste in Chinese food comes from Panda or Pei Wei, then you might not like this place. Still eating here monthly and love the food. Been eating here since the parents first opened the doors. Their daughter has taken over and it is still great food. She isn't the most openly talkative person but she is very focused on running the restaurant. Soups are very good. Lo me Ins are great. Sweet and Sour, Sesame and Orange Chicken are all very good. The kitchen was filthy as were all the kitchen equipment.There was so many things wrong with this place that I will only put a synopsis Food was horrible. Management and service was terrible. Yikes, decent food but not really clean. The kitchen area is dirty with grease and other areas. The front of this place is a low key restaurant. The cook wears a tank top t-shirt. Arm put sweat or hair in you food. I ordered chicken chop suey with no mushrooms and told them twice and fir sure they put mushrooms in. Very little chicken maybe about four small pieces. Sad. After shopping for something next door at Bashas I decided to give New China a try. From the moment I walked inside, the place looked sketchy. It was filthy and there was children's toys all over the place. I was the only customer which made me even more skeptical. The employees were all eating their food as I was placing my order. I decided on kung poa chicken. They said it would be spicy. As I was waiting for my food a female employee was feeding her toddler son. He looks like he's choking and I ask her, mam, is your son choking? Suddenly, he begins throwing up uncontrollably and it's going everywhere. The mother screams at the boy in Chinese. I continue to wait for my food and look back into the kitchen. It's absolutely disgusting. No one is wearing gloves and the place is filthy. It looks as though it has never been cleaned, ever. After the throw up, filthy environment and smell I wasn't hungry anymore. As a matter of fact, I felt sick. I got home with my food and not only was it disgusting, it wasn't just chicken in my dish. There was also pork and bits of beef. There was no spice to the dish like they said it would. They threw in an egg roll that was so putrid I had to spit out my first bite. For a business that's been around for 14 years I seriously wonder how. So sad to leave a review like this but this is a business that lacks professionalism, cleanliness and manners. I went in for a quick lunch and was very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and mushroom which came covered in an overly salty brown goop next to some fried rice. The egg roll was definitely not pork and the cream cheese wontons were seriously missing some cream cheese. To top it off, the fountain soda machine had very little CO2 making the drinks syrupy. The lady allowed us to grab free canned soda, so that was nice. Another weird thing was the giant jumping kid area in the middle of the eating area?
