New Deck Tavern is a divey Irish pub/American restaurant on the UPenn campus which boasts surprisingly delicious, hearty food options, reasonably priced drinks, and trivia on Wednesdays (starting at 8 PM). --- I went to New Deck Tavern around 7 PM to eat dinner and join the trivia which starts at 8 PM. I was in a party of 4, and while the pub was packed, it was quick to get a table. The waitress was friendly and helped us decide on appetizers and entrees with recommendations. Although it was crowded, the food service was still relatively fast but at times it was hard to track down our server. Of note was that there was very little walking/table leeway and it was loud due to the crowd. So, if you are looking for an intimate place to grab a bite or drink, I wouldn't recommend Wednesday Trivia Nights! Overall, the food was of enormous portions! For appetizers, we ordered the Loaded Potato Skins and the Awesome Cheese Fries. These appetizers split among 4 people were so plentiful, we needed to take some home afterwards. The potato skins were a bit raw for my liking, but we did enjoy the toppings. I felt like the cheesy fries were the winner of the two. The fries had a great ratio of toppings-to-fries and the fries were not too soggy/fried. For entrée, I ordered the Cajun Chicken Alfredo pasta and while I felt it was a tad bit too greasy, it had a great hearty flavor. The chicken wasn't overcooked either. There was SO much chicken and pasta, I actually took half home. Lastly, I felt the red sangria was a bit too watered down, and more of a juice than a true drink, which was a little disappointing. Unrelated to the food, the trivia was doable, non-judgmental, and a blast. For me, it really added to my dining experience. I would highly recommend New Deck Tavern for Trivia Wednesdays and for anyone craving hearty bar food, especially if you want seconds to take home! But I'd skip the sangria and head straight to the beer.

Stopped by New Deck for drinks and food after a movie nearby. Took a seat at the bar with my girlfriend. We order a couple of cocktails. After we got the cocktails we still weren't given a food menu, so we eventually asked for one. For food we ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls and potato skins. The cheesesteak eggrolls were not evenly cooked, making parts of it crispy and parts not crispy. It was good, but not every bite was the same. The potato skins looked better than they tasted. The bacon was not crispy and was mostly underneath all the cheese. You couldn't really taste it. Overall it just lacked the flavor you would expect. New Deck was OK, but not good enough to become our go-to after movie spot in University City.

Stuck in the hospital for a week. St. l Patrick's day, really feeling like a corned beef and Swiss. Ordered food dash. Spent over 50 dollars for 2 corned beef sandwiches and a potato soup. Did not eat any of it. The corned beef was fatty and leathery tough. Didn't even resemble corned beef. My husband who will eat anything, took one bite and that was it. Disgusting. The soup was just as bad. Zero stars. Do not waste your money.

Popped in here around 8pm on a Saturday and somehow they had a table for three open. The place was packed. The band was great and the fish and chips were awesome. My server was great, she knew all of the answers to my questions. I know I speak of fish and chips, but we started eating before I thought to take a picture. So enjoy my 20oz instead!

I liked the ambiance quite a bit more than the food. Probably a 3.5 due to the food, but that feels too low. Beer selection was decent, but the wrap I had was pretty mediocre. It's a cool Irish-themed spot and was a nice visit for lunch in terms of service and vibe, but my fries were soggy and didn't hit like I'd want them to. Still worth a visit for a beer or two.

Decent Food OK service and good drinks. Popped in late Friday night for a snack after a local show I attended. The Ruben was good. I ordered the quesadilla and steak fries. Fries were undercooked and soggy. I bit into one and you can still taste raw potatoes. Bar tender claimed that's how they serve them and if I want a crisper fry, the shoe string is the one I want. Well, know that they serve soggy steak fries. The shoestring fries were tasty. Had a Margarita that wasn't that tasty and a Moscow mule, which was ok. Overall decent spot with and Irish pub vibes.

Honestly the food is good nothing super fancy. This place is such good vibes. Got the Brussels and curry fries which were unique and would get again. Buffalo chicken salad and honey crisp chicken salads were filling. The bread pudding was to die for. This is a great lace to watch a game. They have live music on Friday and Saturday. Also have trivia and other specials other nights. They do not take reservations.

The bar was friendly and fully stocked. I had two mixed drinks and they were delicious. I ordered their special (Irish chicken curry) and it was mediocre at best. I tried adding salt/pepper to enhance the flavor but it didn't help. The meal wasn't great. I went there on a Friday night so there was a live band playing. They were pretty loud and played rock covers. It was hard to talk to people nearby me because of the music.

A couple of friends and I went here on St. Patrick's Day and the place was well decorated for the occasion! It really busy and had live music. It was a tad chaotic but we loved it! I tried their cheesesteak eggroll since it looked and seemed super interesting. It was good to my surprise, I just a different sauce was paired with it. It didn't seem to go well and without the sauce the eggroll was a bit dry.

We went here for dinner last night before our drive back home to NY. First off all, the decor and atmosphere of the place is very welcoming, homey and pleasant. It's gorgeous inside with all the brick and it just has a very authentic Irish tavern feel (which is what it is). The food was excellent. The pretzels and cheesesteak egg rolls were delicious. The French onion soup was perfect. The Philly cheesesteaks were good, not the best I've ever had but I enjoyed them regardless. The service was very friendly. Our waitress was very accommodating and there was a gentleman behind the bar who also helped out and he was extremely pleasant. We had two small children with us who fully enjoyed their burgers & fries. They had yummy desserts as well (which got eaten too fast for a picture). I'd definitely come back here on another trip.

Friendly staff and good food. Nice location within easy walking distance of U Penn. Atmosphere was noisy so not great for conversation. Took away one star only because it took a long time to get service initially and then it felt like we were being rushed out at the end.

While the brewery side only serves libations the space also features the Landing Kitchen serving all kinds of damn good food. Another plus is the huge variety of games that they have to play, including an ice breakers questions game that made for a good second date activity. The service at Two Locals is great and filled with bartenders who provide good brew suggestions. Favorite beers of mine from here include the Nubian brown ale, the Gaspar dark Mexican lager, the Riots smoked rauchbier, and the Foway farmhouse saison. That said, I think Philly, for the most part, has given up on corner store style pizza. Gourmet neopolitan descended pizza? We got that by the yacht load. But we all know that's too fancy for workhorse, blue collar, I used to have to carry boxes to save up money for my Playstation games kinda taste. I'm gonna give them their flowers this one time - NYC knows how to make cheap, solid, go to any spot and grab a slice and you'll be alright pizza. This is not something you can do anywhere in Philly. You gotta know your spots. Most places don't let their dough rise long enough to develop flavor, or they add a ton of sugar to their dough and or sauce, or they under bake everything to get the pies out faster. You know what I mean. You've been through this. You all have a spot where you're like "at 3 am after the club, sure. But sober?" For this reason, I learned to bake my own pies, at home. It's a multi day process. Make dough. Allow it to ferment in fridge for at least 24, but no more than 72 hours. Stretch, top, bake on a stone at 550F, and boom. The kind of pizza I'll enjoy sober. And Carter's is out here doing this for me! On a standard (I didn't ask for well done, I wanted to see how it would come out) crust, it comes out poofy, foldable, but able to stand up to its toppings. The dough i less salty than I would make, but plenty fine and full of flavor. Same with the sauce. The cheese pulls like a dream, and the pepperoni has just the right amount of grease. I think next time I will ask for well done, because this is the kind of crust where you get it a little toasty and whoooowheeeeee, we're gourmet now, guys and gals! You put this pizza in the dictionary and only internet nerds that no one likes would "well actually, pizza includes Chicago deep dish style" get outta here, nerd! We're talking workhorse pizza! I do love deep dish too so that's another conversation, but not the one we're having right now. Carter's - I salute you. You are my spot, right up there with Enjay's, for exactly what I want when I'm a little too lazy to cook, and want a delicious pie that I -never- question whether it's worth the money.
