I love the vibe. Came here with a hangover New Year's Day. Egg soup yummy. Orange chicken super tasty. I'd prefer white meat but I know that's a me thing. Egg roll wasn't rolled in a wrapper but rather coated and deep fried kinda like relleno. I liked it a lot. Light and crispy. White rice bland but they have table salt. Prices amazing for downtown area. Fast and friendly service. She didn't speak much English but that just makes it feel authentic. Obviously a family business; Toddler running around speaking Mandarin was adorable. Open on Monday. I'll be back.

The location is definitely questionable and that was no surprise, so it's not affecting my review at all. However, saw this place on TikTok and since we were in downtown for a comedy show for the night, thought we would check it out. All the videos we saw indicated you had to walk through the kitchen to get in - not true. The food is decent, but absolutely not worth the wait. The place wasn't even half full and it wasn't traditional lunch or dinner hours so there was no crowd rush at all. Took unnecessarily long to come and take our order and then even unnecessarily longer for our food to be prepared. When it arrived, the temperatures varied so much. Some dishes were cold, others were piping hot - like excessively. While everything was "okay", we will definitely not return. It wasn't worth raising to their attention about the slowness or the varied food temperatures because no one seemed to care much about anything in the place. PS - if you're staying at one or the City Scape hotels (we were at the Moxy), don't walk. It seems like it's gonna be close but with a variety of construction and such, the walk was double what any map indicated.

Not recommended. I remember eating here decades ago and have a faded memory of a dive joint, but in an endearing way. I returned and was beyond disappointed. Everything was completely run down, food was mediocre at best, and I spent the entire meal staring at a drooping dusty fan blade on a ceiling fan that apparently wasn't working. Only redeeming quality for me was a nice server. I will not return.

Service was okay. Except they forgot to give me my credit card back and I had to ask for it. Food and cleanliness was abysmal. Orange chicken was dry, tough, lacking chicken and fried to a crispy. Cream cheese puffs we big and had less than a dime size amount of cream cheese. Egg roll was fantastic, surprisingly. Skip this place.

Been Around For a While New Garden Restaurant has been around for a long time, not sure how impasse this place by, until today. All I have tonsay is our food was really good as was the service. This little gem of a restaurant is family-owned and operated and their portions are generous, to say the least. Our food was served piping hot when it arrived and everything was really delicious. On this visit we shared the fried won tons, egg flower soup, egg rolls, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, and seasme chicken. All our entrees were cooked to order, perfectly seasoned, and very tasty. If you're look for good Chinese food give this place a try, it doesn't disappoint.

Finally got to try this place after 2 attempts to check it out after a post from, a social media post. The first time we tried to dine in, on a Saturday, they were swamped with to go orders and said the wait for seating/food was at least 2 hour wait. Then tried again to just get food to go on a regular work day, only to find out they are closed between the hours of 3 P - 4:30 P (which is not posted on this yelp, but via a sign on the doors). So I arrived at 11:55 AM on Saturday to try and get in to place an order to go. They opened at 12:00 noon and I was second in person to place an order to go; however, it took 30 minutes for the order to be completed (which is understandable, since the just opened for business). This is an old establishment, which is in an old medium size place with several tables and sizes available. It is rather warm inside, which could be due to them just opening and starting AC, can't say...but it was rather warm inside with only ceiling fans running. I ordered the chicken chop suey and their infamous "big egg rolls," which are 2 count per order but only for $5.00. The chop suey is moderately sauced with mainly bean sprouts and good amount of protein. It's hard to describe the egg rolls which appears to be loosely packed mixture of mainly bean sprouts, some cabbage and meat (possibly chicken & pork) in regular egg roll skin, then it may be dipped in a egg/flour batter of some sort. They are big, but a little greasy likely due to the batter. But everything was seasoned ok. My order also included a cup of their egg drop soup and wonton chips. The place was being cared for by 5 gentlemen in the front of the house and they were all friendly & professional. This place was definitely was established many years ago and had that old Americanized Chinese vibe of the 50's-70's, which is not a bad thing.

Parking a little rough. Food was amazing. Great portions and price. Highly recommend.

First visit. I owe them a second try. Large menu, you must account for Cantonese style preparations. Need to go easier on the deep fryer. Enjoyable anyway.

They have complimentary parking in the front, side, and back of the restaurant. There aren't a ton of spots, but there's street parking close by too. Ambiance (3.5/5): Like most Chinese restaurants, China Chili is pretty no frills. Which isn't a problem for me at all, I'm there for the food. It's a spacious restaurant with both regular tables and circular tables that rotates (good for large groups sharing dishes). Service (4/5): Fantastic service is also not something I expect at a Chinese restaurant. Yet again, I'm there for the food. With that being said, service, while not overly friendly, is typically pretty efficient. Which I always appreciate. Drinks (4/5): Pretty much your standard soft drinks, tea, and a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. My favorite option is their buddha beer which you don't see in a lot of places. It's a lager and it's in a buddha-shaped bottle. It doesn't get much better than that. Food (5/5): The first time I came was for one of my favorite dishes... Peking duck. There aren't a ton of spots in Phoenix that have it, but out of the ones that do, China Chili serves it at a high level. You can go with either crepes or baos (additional surcharge). The duck is absolutely to die for. Flavorful, juicy meat with crispy skin that fits in perfectly into your mini "sandwich" with green onions and Hoisin sauce. For a reasonable price too. Their food outside of duck is of a similar quality. I especially like their flat noodles with beef. Even classic dishes like sesame chicken have a twist here. It's sliced chicken rather than fully breaded chicken. Just as good as the typical way, the sauce is delicious. My only complaint? They give you a pretty small helping of white rice with your dish. Outside of that, the portions are generous. Everything I've had at China Chili has been a hit. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

There aren't many places in Phoenix that serve duck this neatly like in my photo, and I appreciate that it's not another chain restaurant. Is it the best version of this dish I've ever had, no...but it can be a nice change from the usual options of beef, pork, shrimp, and chicken.

I spent over $50 on food, and the quality was extremely disappointing. The General Tso's chicken was basically nothing but breaded chicken pieces -- no vegetables and barely any sauce. The Orange Chicken was also dry and lacked sauce, making both dishes bland and unappetizing. To make matters worse, each entrée is supposed to come with rice, yet only a very small portion was provided. At this point, it feels like this restaurant is cutting corners and poorly managed. I'm generally not someone who leaves negative reviews, but the lack of care, consistency, and food quality is impossible to ignore. This was my last time giving this establishment my hard-earned money. I'd rather spend it somewhere that values its customers and takes pride in the food they serve.

It's probably the fanciest Chinese restaurant I've been to in AZ. The lunch menu is excellent and quite impressive! There are 8 entrees to choose along with a side for only $20. What's crazy is that a full size seafood and wagyu beef belly jjampong is a side! They're regularly $24 so it's a crazy deal to get an additional entree!! We ordered seafood jjampong and wagyu beef jjampong as sides and genghis khan beef and chili garlic fried chicken as mains. The jjampong had that great umami taste without the oiliness that's unavoidable at other restaurants. The ingredients felt very premium and fresh. Ghengis khan beef pieces were very generous and tender with a savory sauce. Chili garlic chicken was a tad salty for me but had great crisp. Service was impeccable and one you'd expect from an upscale restaurant. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes from the lunch menu. Amazing Restaurant!…read more All amazing people of Phoenix, if you have not gone to this phenomenal restaurant yet, you really need to. This is one convenient, high quality, extremely flavorful Chinese place that me and my husband visited today. It was just high quality all the way! When we arrived it was quiet. Superbly clean, neat and tidy. Cute decor and a nice inviting vibe. We were sat at a table and given our menus. Prices were really good. Especially when you get the quality of food that comes out of that kitchen. Our waitress was super-nice. Which is hard to find these days. She was so nice to everyone who came in. When we sat down, a lady who wasn't too sure about the place came in asking all kinds of questions. And she patiently answered each one as if she was a close family member. A homeless guy came in asking for water. She jumped right up to give him a HUGE cup of ice and water and was so kind to him. Then other patrons came in to order and pick up food and each one, regardless of age, ethnic makeup, what they were wearing, all were greeted so warmly. Huge smiles and a constant giving and warm attitude all throughout. We were treated just as good. And for us that is very rare. We ordered a lot of various things. A cold cucumber salad, a hot appetizer, a couple of main dishes. Then the absolute most amazing signature steak on the Chef's Speciality. WOW. The salad and appetizers came out first. Salad really cold and refreshing. Super crisp and cut nicely. Amazing flavor. Then the appetizers were super hot and fresh. Not oily. Bursting with flavor. Then the mains came. Everything cooked perfectly. The flavors of each dish just screaming at my taste buds. Enjoyed every bite. Then they brought out the steak for my husband. So juicy. So tender. And the sauce in the side just added to the flavor. We savored every bite. The quality and temperatures and flavors are off the chart. We could not finish all this bliss in one sitting, se we asked for boxes and containers. She gave us many to separate everything and a bag to haul it home in. Always asking if we needed anything else and being authentically polite. This place should be packed. You are missing out if you have not tried New Hong King Restaurant. Amazing service. The restaurant itself is so cute and has such a charming feel, so I was hoping the food would be just as impressive. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit of a miss for us. The noodles were very hard in texture and unfortunately lacked flavor. The fried rice was also disappointing -- I expected the usual fried rice with some vegetables and flavor, but there weren't any veggies, and the rice itself was very hard and bland. We also tried the sweet and sour chicken, which didn't have that classic sweet, tangy flavor I was expecting. It was pretty bland, and unfortunately, the chicken tasted a little off to me, so I didn't end up eating much of it. I really wanted to love this place because the reviews are so positive and the restaurant is adorable, but based on this particular takeout experience, the food just wasn't for us. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but unfortunately, I don't think I'd be rushing back. Cute restaurant, but the food definitely missed the mark for us this time.
