These were very good... flavorful not overly spicy.

This is a little hole in the wall grocery store that sells products, clothing, decor, hot foods and sweets. Mostly to go no sitting area. I was there about 20 min chatting with another patron and their door was constantly opening and closing with people picking up hot food. I tried one of their meals I told him to surprise me. I would recommend trying them. I would love a personal shopper here who can explain their items and how to cook with them. Lots of fascinating items.

This was probably my most underwhelming experience dining out in Phoenix. I went with the Indian buffet. I appreciated the water having lemon slices, cucumber slices, and mint in a water dispenser. On the buffet was both veg and non-veg items. I went with the Samosa, veggie spring roll, rice pilaf, Chana Masala, Gobi Manchuarian aka Indo Chinese cauliflower, and a daal. Also on offer were Papadam, various chutney, and a salad. Some room for improvements and henceforth the two stars was they had real plates yet had plastic forks and plastic spoons. Adding real silverware would be a much needed improvement. They didn't have glasses because they had styrofoam cups. A much needed improvement would be to have real glasses or real cups. When dining out besides eating low on the food chain aka I follow a plant based diet and have been vegan 25 years I feel eschewing plastic silverware and styrofoam cups is essential to leave a light footprint on Mamma Earth. Had I known that they had plastic cups and styrofoam cups I would have gone elsewhere. I think adding at least one more veg dish to the buffet would have been nice such as aloo aka potatoes or baingan aka eggplant dish. Lastly there was a hiccup. Fresh naan apparently came with the buffet and didn't find that out until I checked out. Would have been nice to get an order of plain fresh naan to begin the meal. All in all I am giving two stars for what I felt could have been better and noted my suggested room for improvements to the restaurant on how to bring its game up several notches higher!

I decided to stop at the New India Bazaar. I have driven by on several occasions and wanted to review another local restaurant & grocery store specializing in products from India they have an ample selection of dry goods, spices, Himalayan desserts, and frozen foods. They also serve a lunchtime buffet and dinner entree with seating in the back. They are open for 11am-9pm daily.I missed the lunch buffet put took some butter chicken to go, and it was delish.

I like cardamom and ginger in my coffee. I've bought green cardamom pods from many sources. New India Bazaar has the freshest, largest, highest quality cardamom I've found. My family likes cardamom and ginger in their coffee. They do not know why it tastes so good. The service here is Family Human all the way. The sweet selection is vast. The $15 buffet excellent.

I came here for jumbo samosas and left with desserts too. The store is quaint and the grocery has just enough of what you need. I didn't try the restaurant but maybe next time. I got four random desserts that looked good and loved two and the others were harder and sweeter than I thought they'd be. I'd definitely recommend them for desserts and jumbo samosas. They also had some fresh samosas for take out for $1. I would have loved to try them if I hadn't just eaten.

Food was amazing. Cannot wait to go back. We had the garlic naan with our dishes. Great family environment and service. Everything was made fresh. Only feedback was wishing the naan came out with our main dishes but it was worth the wait.

Excellent lunch buffet. The butter chicken is so tender. The samosas are really good too as well as the fresh naan.

This is a neat family establishment. The mother is the chef and Khadija (forgive me if I botched…read morethe spelling) is the daughter and our server. They were so welcoming. I am still learning about middle eastern cuisine so the chef described some entrees. I told her about a Pakistani dish I really enjoyed and she made me a similar chicken dish that isn't even on the menu! What I love about middle eastern food is that it is so fragrant and a full scale sensory overload. It looks, smells and tastes all at once. Khadija was adorable and very outgoing. I was super impressed by the whole vibe. All of the other patrons were probably far more familiar with the cuisine, but we felt welcome and were so honored that they presented something off the menu for me. I plan to try the regular menu dishes next time. The naan is outstanding, too.

I happen to pass it the other day and put it in my Yelp want to go list. This morning I'm like what am I in the mood for and Indian food came to mind. I went walk through Yelp & this came up for Indian Food. Now it is a combined international food experience a blend of middle eastern and Indian. I did the buffet and it did not disappoint. Curries, naan, salad bar, and a juice buffet also. The juice buffet won me fresh and great choices cucumber lime mint, watermelon mixed with something, & mango mixed with something (didn't matter it was liquid crack as they all were good). Fluffy Grandma recommends.

She came out crying and mad at one of the owners or supervisors (not sure) I could recognize him if I had to. Then she walked out crying. And I was trying to console her, and help her calm down. She didn't speak, she grabbed her things and left. The person she was speaking to came towards me with my order of food for my family. He mentioned "she's crazy", and hasn't been doing well all morning, I asked her to do something and she cussed me out". I understand that wasn't nice of her and maybe from her point of view she was mad because it's been escalating for a while, and I how it's hard to find quality people to work in a restaurant, however if a manager is comfortable to tell a person that he's never met before that his employee is "crazy" but talking directly to a first time customer about the incident with his employee is 100 % unprofessional ! And uncalled for to treat his employee like this. Maybe his employee was having a bad day !! Any chance to have compassion ? No, none of that was expressed. Wow what an experience in this restaurant ! Food is great but not interested in drama. On either side of management or employees. Good luck. Wont be interested in returning to see more.

Downtown Phoenix is not a monolith. It's not only Roosevelt Row, or the sports district, or the…read moreCapitol. There's a wide range of neighborhoods, each with their own distinct character. Today, looking for an early dinner spot, I came upon Baiz Market. A small Middle Eastern grocery store with a sit down restaurant inside called Al-Hana. There's actually three Baiz Markets here in town, but the original is tucked away just east of the Garfield neighborhood on the eastern fringe of Downtown. I've had some great Middle Eastern fare here in town from the likes of places such as Middle Eastern Bakery and Haji Baba. But Arizona Republic food columnist Dominic Armato has said Al-Hana is one of his top 100 go to spots in the valley. So on a Thursday afternoon, off I went. You'll find Al-Hana inside the original Baiz Market on the southeast corner of 20th Street and Fillmore. There are also Baiz Markets in west Phoenix and now in west Mesa, each with their own Al-Hana restaurants. But this one is the original. Adnan Baiz and his family run this local chain which is open to all, but catering particularly to the valley's growing Middle Eastern community. In the time I spent inside Baiz today, there was a kaleidoscope of customers coming in and out. From Downtown college kids, to Muslim families, to Latino workers stopping in for a meal, and even a few African American grandmothers just grabbing some grocery items. Clearly I'm not the only one in the area who knows about this place. But how good is the food at Al-Hana? Step up to the counter in back, gaze at the menu above (or at the display case below) and make your choices. I ordered an app and an entree for my first go around. First, a small cheese pie. A mix of feta and mozzarella cheeses on house made dough which is crimped to make sure none of that cheesy goodness escapes. Heated in the oven and served warm. For my entree, I went for a Chicken Shawarma entree. Basmati rice, veggies, pickles, garlic sauce, and a pair of large pita bread slices. Oh and of course the chicken, seasoned and sliced off the spinning grill right in front of you. Total cost for everything including tax? About $11. Food came out to me in a little less than 5 minutes. You can also get it to go if you want, but I dined in the small seating area next to the kitchen this go around. First, the cheese pie. And I now get why Yelpers and Armato hype this up. The dough is the best part. Crunchy on the outside, but soft, chewy, and hearty on the inside. And the cheese mix is perfect. And for just $1 its a perfect starter snack for pretty much any meal. How about the shawarma plate? The chicken was excellent. Seasoned perfectly with just a hint of char. The sides? Meh. The basmati rice was actually a big disappoint to be honest. Super dry and almost flavorless. The pita bread was fine, though I've had better on that front as well. All things considered though, a pretty decent meal (and portion) and a solid value for the price. Next time I'm here I'll probably opt for the kabobs, or perhaps grab a meat pie. Given the uniqueness of the groceries available here, the fully halal restaurant menu, and the mixed neighborhood it resides in, I can understand why Baiz endures in Downtown's ever changing landscape. We're much more spoiled for choice on Middle Eastern cuisine in the valley today than when Baiz originally opened in 2004. And there are many other Middle Eastern restaurants that can match or top Al-Hana's food at this point. But much the way Ranch Markets offer a unique way to shop for the valley's Latino communities, Baiz is giving the valley's Middle Eastern residents something with them in mind. If ever there was an establishment in the valley proving that Phoenix is becoming an international food destination, its Baiz.

Great food... Went in today, but they are still closed. I'll update my post when they open.read more
