Excellent Indian grocery! Unlike others, everything has prices indicated. Lots of produce with very reasonable prices. The store is well kept and festively decorated. Ladies out front were giving naan samples with excellent service. The checkout line is long, but very efficiently managed and quick moving. This will be my go to going forward. I recently ordered Dal Makhani and Shahi Paneer. Unfortunately, both dishes were disappointing. The gravies were quite thin and contained an excessive amount of cream, which overpowered the flavors of the dishes. Instead of being rich and well-balanced, they felt overly heavy and greasy. I would have preferred thicker, more authentic gravies with less cream and better flavor. The excessive use of cream also made the dishes feel less healthy. Super bad experience today. I don't think I'll be coming back again. I ordered fresh jalebi, and the entire process was handled very poorly. The cashier informed me that the chef was on lunch break and that it would take about 7-10 minutes. That was completely understandable--everyone deserves a break, and I had no issue waiting. However, after the chef returned, he prepared jalebi but did not include my order. When I followed up, I was again told to wait. I remained patient and understanding, but the situation continued. In the end, I waited almost an hour for a simple jalebi order while the staff repeatedly looked at my order and seemed to ignore it. There was little communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to address the delay. The service at the jalebi and sweets counter was extremely disappointing. I left the store without picking my order because I have to go somewhere and was already being late. Sorry, but this was honestly my experience today. read more

I have been a regular customer at New India Bazar, Pleasanton, because it is close to my home. My recent experience was very disturbing and disappointing. I bought two atta packets. When I opened the first bag, it had live maggots crawling. I opened the second bag since it was dinner time -- it also had maggots and visible white webbing. I called the store repeatedly but received no proper response. They insisted on a receipt for a refund, which I no longer had. I took both contaminated bags back to the store -- not for a refund, but to prevent others from buying unsafe food. Only employees were present. No manager took responsibility. No one followed up even after I shared my contact details. Very poor quality control, irresponsible handling, and bad customer service. Customers should carefully check products -- especially items sold under SALE labels. Now I am thinking about the quality of curries and rotis they sell. Visited for the first time to replenish on my Maggi fix. We came around 8 PM, which is when the store closes, and the store was bustling with families and people! New India Bazar itself isn't a huge store, but that doesn't mean they offer a small selection of items. The store offers a variety of grocery, ready-to-eat hot foods, packaged foods, basically anything you'd ever need! I was so delighted to see an aisle full of Maggi. Which was the purpose of the mission, the expedition, the entire trip. End goal achieved. Locked and loaded! I took several pictures because I was so shocked there were so many different kinds of Maggi packages. I had only ever seen the family pack, but I had no idea there were different flavors, individually wrapped ones, and even knock-off Maggi noodles! Of course, I opted for the family pack, which carries 8 packs of noodles and their accompanying sauce packs. Amazing. One thing to note is that I couldn't find the price for the items anywhere, but this wasn't much of an issue as when the cashier rang up our items, the total was rather cheap. Walked out of New India Bazar feeling like a champ, armed with my monthly fix of Maggi noodles. read more

I have been a regular visitor to New India Bazar, Pleasanton. I used to like that and I still like it. But recently they scammed me and I am feeling very very bad about that. Kindly refer to the attached picture. I had bought Manna 1Kg pack for 11.99 about 2 to 3 months back. About 3 weeks back, since they didn't have 1Kg pack, I bought two 500gms pack. I didn't check the price at that time, as I trust this store. I got a rude shock seeing they sold 500gm pack to me at $13.99 for a grand total of $28 just for 1Kg of Manna health mix, that I used to get for $11.99. If this is not scamming your customers, I am not sure what is. This is very very bad, and I didn't expect such scamming from a store that I liked a lot. read more

I would say I like this store versus other indian stores because of the variety of food available and their fast turnover of food at least the fresh items. Over the last year I've seen them improve their displays and continued expansion of different products , today I saw a machine to produce fresh sugar cane juice , haven't seen that anywhere else , but not my kinda juice anyway. Waiting for their snack/ hot deli to open up, when nobody knows. Food is reasonably priced, usually lines go very fast but I try not to come on weekends as that's the busiest time. I actually think going late afternoon on Monday is better as that's when most of the restocking is going on. They still need to work on cleanliness , like the guy putting onions on cart and all the skins were falling on floor he should have done it over a garbage can versus a shopping cart. Also you feel rushed to get your stuff on the belt at the register but I guess that's so the line goes fast read more

Bought Kathal curry last Friday and kala jaamoon pack few days earlier. The curry had a stale smell and started to spoil the same day I got it. Unfortunately very racist here. There was a lady offering free samples of samosas out front, who when it was my turn ignored me and started serving the customers behind me. When I spoke up and asked for a sample she told me to wait and then went and serviced other customers again. I also had the clerks running around behind me like I was trying to steal something the entire time. I went inside to get bags for the produce outside and literally had a clerk chase after me, even though they clearly saw me grabbing plastic bags to continue my shopping trip. Even 1 star ain't worth. I know I know. This rating is for KITCHEN only. Went to grab hot Chapati on weekday during lunch time. Only one lady was handling everything - taking orders, packing food and make chapatis. No gloves while packing food. I was hoping she will clean hands before making chapatis. She went into take someone else order and packed their curries at her own pace while I was waiting. Then she went in the back kitchen counter and with same hands, started making chapati dough rolls, then came back to take another order (pressed touch pad, filled container with food) and again went back to roll dough with same hands!!! I quickly asked to cancel my order, she refunded touching payment pad with same flour filled hands and I ran out as fast as I could. Do you know where to have worst vada pav along with rude behavior? I know !! New India Bazar. I tried to order vada pav and chole bhature. I was told it will take 30 mins for chole bhature and 15 mins for vada pav. I said ok, but while doing billing I was told chole bhature can't be ordered very rudely. I went ahead ordering vada-pav since bill has been generated already. When I got the order, I found pav were heated only from outside and when I out a bite of vada, it was warm from outside but chilly cold from inside(seems chef took it out of freezer and put it in microwave) and when I told this to person present, he said that's how we prepare. read more
