Family establishment! Been around for a long time, and I used to work in the area and eat here with my partners and team. Decided since we were in the area, the lady and I would give it a go! Still the best available in the area IMO for non-AYCE traditional style. They cook it for you so if you aren't KBBQ savvy, they got you! The wife is awesome she's usually very sweet and cooks your meats perfectly. The hubby, haha he always seems grouchy but no issues. Service is quick and space and tables are ample. This is a nice antidote to what way TOO MANY "Asian" restaurants are like in the greater Boston area: slick, prettified and exoticized decor, inflated pricing and mediocre, bland and generally dumbed-down tourist food. This place is none of those things---the interior is simple and dare I say, well worn. But that's the whole point, you feel like you're in an authentic immigrant family restaurant, which it appears to be---a very very sweet and kind lady seems to be the only server in this place (we went on a weeknight, so maybe on a Friday/Sat/Sun it's more crowded and there are more staff) and her husband mans the cash register by the door. Old school! Food is solid and authentic, and refreshingly gimmick-free. What you see is what you get. Shockingly, the prices are about the same as in the Korean places in the food court at H-Mart down the road in Burlington...but you get more and better quality food! And they don't appear to have an alcohol license, which is kind of a good thing because they don't try to upsell you with their drink menu, which in Asian restaurants tend to be pretty lousy mass-market water-beers (sometimes just with Asian labels on similar swill) at craft-beer prices anyhow. Bimbibap was quite unique: rice was served on a separate bowl, while the actual main bowl was full of veggies and meat and egg. Very nice contrast to most places' bimbibap being 80% rice and 20% veggies/meat. Came with a small side of miso soup. UPDATE, one week later: Came back to try out the Korean BBQ. For 3 people, we ordered 3 of the BBQ menu items, came out to a reasonable $100 or so before tip since we just had the complimentary toasted brown rice tea (hyeonmi-cha) and ice water. It was just the right amount of food for an evening meal (more voractious eaters would probably want an additional 1-2 dishes) and the lady came to our table to cook the food for us, ensuring that nothing would be overcooked. The short rib was easily the best, followed by the bulgogi, and the squid with pork belly and veggies was pretty good not great (it was interestingly cooked over the open flame on a square of aluminum foil). Everything was perfectly marinated, tender and juicy. Ventilation was good, so our clothes did not reek of roasted meat afterwards---some places have weak fans, this one did not. Service was again impeccable, gracious and speedy...very nice warm vibes, not cold or perfunctory like some places. Will definitely be coming back for more! read more

In MA, we really do have such a limited selection when it comes to KBBQ spots but I'm so glad I discovered New Jang Su BBQ, in Burlington! I have been meaning to try them out for a while now and luckily for me, we were in the area at Burlington Mall, so we popped in here for dinner after some shopping. They are a la carte and family owned. It's definitely a little old looking inside but still, very worth going to. We ended up ordering a chap chae, spicy pork belly, and beef short rib. It was more than enough for two people! They cook the meats for you, which was nice ;) The meats were well marinated and quite tasty. A little pricey, however, KBBQ in general is pricey lol. ***must order two meats/table*** Chap chae/japchae had great flavor and I LOVED IT SO MUCH OMG. We couldn't finish it so we took it home and I finished it literally right when we got back because it was that good. The owners were very nice, especially the lady owner. Scrolling through the other reviews of this place were truly disheartening. Sure, the place seemed to be a little rundown, but this greatly amplified the experience. New Jang Su came across as authentic and time tested. The staff were courteous, friendly, and genuinely helpful. The woman who sat us at our table helped explain the menu to me without hesitation or any signs of frustration. Truly a blessing for a first timer. The first time I can remember having authentic Korean food and my only regret is not ordering the barbecue; the smells emanating from the kitchen were delightfully aromatic in the best ways and didn't help at all to cure my hunger pangs. I opted for the Chap Chae lunch special and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. A generous portion with a variety of side dishes, I knew before I took my first bite it would be nothing short of immaculate. The noodles were cooked to perfection, the vegetables sautéed down to the perfect balance of soft and crunchy, the pork perfectly grilled, and all tied together with a delectable blend of uniquely Korean spices and flavors. I finished my meal and half of my daughters and although I could've stopped after half of mine, the pristine delectability simply wouldn't allow it. Right under 30 bucks for two people, the complete meal for two also included a hot teapot of (maybe ginger?) tea that warmed my bones before lunch was arrived. The decor here is not like the modern, flashy Korean BBQ places that have been blowing up on social media, so it felt super nostalgic to eat here. Like others have mentioned, the ventilation isn't super great so I wouldn't wear any important clothes here. I came in a group of 4 on a weekend in the mid-afternoon. They have strict lunch and dinner hours and even though we came during their break from 2-2:30pm, they told us that we could wait at their table. I appreciated the service and did not experience any rude treatment like others have suggested, although we also dined at a time when they were less busy. We got a number of items including the doenjang jjigae ($12.99), ttokbeokki ($16.99), short rib ($36.99), chicken gui ($28.99), and bulgogi ($33.99). All of the food was pretty good and had a homey vibe, although their marinades are on the sweeter side. They grilled the meats for us. I think this is a nice spot to get a comfy, casual, family meal! This is a cute little Korean restaurant that feels authentic, which can be hard to find in the Boston area. It's run by Koreans, the ban Chan is good, and the food is great. The galbi set for the kbbq isn't a very large portion, but it's well marinated and tender. We tried the cold noodles, and seafood soup which were both very good as well. I think I may pass on the bibimbap next time, not as much flavor as I'd like. And pass on the pork belly kbbq next time, there was too much oil and the flavor isn't as good as the galbi. Service was relatively quick, they helped us cut the noodles and cook the meat. Overall friendly and attentive, although there weren't too many other people in the restaurant since we came at a later time. They were out of bulgogi when we went on lunar new year BUT we opted for the spicy pork belly and short rib. I was very impressed with the spicy pork belly--it was my favorite. The seasoning and veggies were spot on. Note that the meat portions are not ginormous like American BBQ. The quality is great but expect smaller portions. The banchan was plentiful and very tasty. The japchae was a good complement to the BBQ. It was hot and the portion was a great size. Their bibimbap was okay. All the dishes are authentic. The servers grill the food for you to ensure nothing falls thru the fire grill and meat is cooked properly. They might seem rude but there are some language barriers. I had to tell them we knew what to order food and were ready to order for our party regardless the other 2 friends were running late because we were starving. The host sat us down with the grumpy face and rushed us to place order. The place was super hot and humid, we could not stay any longer to enjoy the food. So we decided to bring the leftovers outside to eat. The waitress aggressively told me that I could only pack food that I ordered and did not allow me to bring any side dishes home. I told her that I did not want to waste the food, she would throw it in the trash anyway. She said yes, she would rather throw it away. Well, let me tell you this: 1. The food itself is already overpriced. We only had a few dishes but ended up paid $80 each person without the tips 2. We did not ask for any extra side dishes 3. Again, this is not a "All you can eat" restaurant where you can't not bring any leftover home. 4. If you're nice enough to give free side dishes, stay kind or charge the side dishes however you want. Why forcing people to waste their food and rather throwing the food away? Unless you planned to reuse those free side dishes then it made more sense to make a big deal out of it. This is the place yelpers, the authentic Korean restaurant that serves excellent and traditional (as it gets in Boston) Korean fare. It comes as undesirable to the typical goer looking for a flat rate AYCE galbi and bright flashy lights with kpop in the background, but for those who should know better, this is the spot where you can get an actual plate of japchae cooked perfectly with crunchy veggies and perfect sesame aroma. Here you can find your traditional Korean beef soups that are made with care and love, as opposed to a stock frozen package that is reheated to fill you up so you don't order more meat. The BBQ is still excellent, albeit pricy, but it's the other dishes that really shine. The wife is absolutely lovely and kind, and the husband can be a little gruff- it's only further proof of a legitimate and authentic mom and pop shop that you just don't get in this area. The barley tea served is a nice nutty touch, and while the banchan isn't refilled instantly, it is largely excellent, though the cabbage kimchi can be a little standard. I've never felt this comfortable in a Korean restaurant while in America before. Many places I've visited, even in California and New York, just felt a bit too modernized, shallow, and impersonal. This place took me back to eating with family in the countryside of Daegu, with a cozy atmosphere and friendly people. The food itself was delicious, as the short ribs were so tender and juicy, while the mul naeng myun was the best I'd had since Korea. I honestly teared up a little as I was reminded of my family in Korea for a moment. The service was absolutely amazing, with the server able to speak both English and Korean, and she was constantly there to help cook the meat and check to see if we had everything we needed, as well as if we were enjoying the food, but she never once felt intrusive. Came here for dinner for the first time on a weekend with a group of friends. We ordered their veggie tempura, tub boki, 2 tofu jiges (1 vegan, and 1 regular), spicy pork belly bbq, and anchangesal gui (sliced beef). Total came out to around $120 for a group of 4 (not including tip). What's Hot - Menu variety. Pretty good selections- there's almost something for everyone, which I address below. It's a mom n pop restaurant and it appears the owners are Korean immigrants, which is pretty legit. They definitely seem to know their stuff. - Quality. Pretty delish! Everything was flavorful and delish. The only detractor is that their food isn't as spicy as you might think/hope it should be. To be fair, myself, hubby, and our friends have a pretty high tolerance. There's a slight spicy kick in some of the dishes that we purposely ordered, because it's spicy. Unfortunately, it didn't meet our hopes. - Portions. Pretty good size portions. You certainly get your money's worth. For example, the tofu jige was probably a half block of tofu, which is a very good portion. Their vegetable tempura is a variety of sliced veggies fried together in a big baseball size and there were 4 balls of tempura. If you're into Indian food, they're like pakoras. Certainly enough food to get you full, even though you're sharing. - Price. Pretty reasonable, given the amount and quality of food you order. Per person, it can be kind of pricey. However, given that main dishes include side dishes and rice, it's pretty reasonable. Additionally, you're almost always going in a group, which means you will probably be splitting the costs. - Location. Pretty easy to find and decent size parking lot, as well, which is helpful. - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, there's a sign taped to the door requesting all customers to wear face masks. All their staff were wearing face masks, as well. We did notice one of their staff with the face mask under his nose, which isn't the proper method. However, point is they're putting forth a good faith effort, which counts. What's Not - Service. Definitely lacking. Two reasons: 1) the staffer repeatedly walked away from us when we were trying to order, and 2) the staffer kept trying to dictate to us how our food should be ordered, cooked, and eaten. To be fair, any type of Asian restaurant is generally not known for its service, especially if it's run by immigrants. This isn't meant to be a slander. It's an observation of cultural differences. - Dietary restrictions. One of our friends is vegan and it was really difficult getting her vegan friendly dishes. There are a fair amount of vegetarian friendly dishes. However, when we asked, we were told they use a lot of animal-related products, like fish powder, fish sauce, etc... For example, the tofu jige is made with fish powder. We asked the staff to make it without fish powder and she shook her head vigorously and said it wouldn't taste good. She said it would just be made with water and soy sauce, which our friend agreed to. To be fair, our friend said the broth still tasted good, like a pho broth. When we asked the tub boki to be made without fish powder, she said they wouldn't or couldn't. She didn't say it, but it sounds like many of their dishes and sauces are pre-made, which makes it difficult for any modifications. Be aware that if you do have any dietary restrictions, this is not the place that will accommodate you. Final Answer With the exception of service, no complaints. Meh Korean food. We gave this place a few chances 10+ years ago. But the food was subpar every single time without fail & the restaurant had an overall grimy appearance & dirty feel. Our usual Hmart pitstop was not available. But we were already looking forward to Korean by the time we found out the power was out at Hmart. So, against our better judgment, we thought we would revisit this place...after all, it had been so long, surely with the decent reviews, we thought the place must have gotten better. (And with a lot of restaurants wisely using their time during COVID to give their interiors a makeover or at the very least a thorough cleaning, we headed over hopeful.) Yeah, so, no...the interior looked just as grimy and old as we remembered it from 10 & 15 years prior. The whole restaurant (aside from BBQ) had an old carpet, musty smell to it. And the same old familiar grimy looking walls. The server was very friendly & was the one positive part of our time there. She told us their bone broth was made in-house and simmered for a very long time for their Sul Long Tang and told us this soup was a solid choice. But as soon as it came out, we knew right away they must have put in some form of a cream, milk/soy milk, maybe even cornstarch (?) to give it the milky appearance of an authentic long-simmered Sul Long Tang (a sly move some restaurants make to cut down on costs); except what tipped us off was the unnatural color. 100% bone broth - no matter how long you cook it - doesn't turn that opaque. We ended up just eating a few pieces of the floating beef and left the entire soup uneaten. And if you ask for banchan (side dish) refill, any respectable Korean restaurant gives you another helping - it's just standard with this type of cuisine. Sometimes they'll ask you first if you want more. But not here...instead they're quick to inform their customers that there's a limit & you have to decide which two you want more of. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a better rating because I had a great experience! Came as a party of seven on a Saturday night before it got busy and was seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and helped us navigate the menu. We ended up ordering a regular Pajun and Seafood Pajun, Chap Chae, Bulgogi, Spicy Pork Belly, Squid, and two servings of Short Rib. As per usual, we started off with side dishes to share, including lettuce and sauce to go with the meat. The meat came out one by one, with our servers helping us cook and cut it. It was definitely more than enough food for all of us. Overall there's nothing bad to say about my experience. For those taking off stars because of the restaurant's appearance, please get your priorities straight. I think it's a family that owns the place with the mom and dad working the tables and the son is the cashier/host. The mom was fine but the dad did not smile once and was rude to us. We wanted to order the scallion pancake and he just said "I can't make that for you right now" and left the table to tend to someone else. No explanation. We did the bbq and ordered 3 bbq entrees (in addition to other non-bbq entrees). The portions were so tiny. We got 9 bite size pieces of pork belly. Spent over $30 on bulgogi and it wasn't even enough for 1 person. When we asked for more lettuce, (we only got 1 small basket for the 6 of us) they charged us an extra $2. It's super smokey in there as their ventilation system is not good. Someone mentioned in another review that they were not seated as their party was not complete and they were waiting for friends. When we were at our table, we saw a party come in who were also waiting on a friend. The restaurant was not full and there plenty of empty tables, but they were told they couldn't sit down until their friend arrived. I was surprised! It was a good celebration dinner, but while I was packing up the "extras" to go, a man came over, put his hand between me and my dishes , and said "don't take these". His attitude made me feel like I was being accused of stealing something. I asked "why not " (cause I paid for the meal), he made up an lame excuse saying " Why not? If you take them outside, in 5 to 10 minutes, they'll go bad". What? Your food can't last 10 min outside? Was it bad already when you served it to us? On the way back from Boston and in typical fashion, we winged it and picked this Korean BBQ joint. Never considered that there are other Korean restaurants outside H-mart in Burlington. They are limiting capacity and looks like the largest table can hold 6, but it's first come, first serve. Ironically, my group of 3 got the table for 6, while the group of 7 got split about two tables that hold 4. The menu states that there's a minimum requirement of 2 orders for BBQ table and each item is a serving for 1 person. I personally thought the portions were rather small even though we all ordered 1 each, while my youngest cousin thought it was big. It's been awhile since I saw so many sides, but for bbq, we ordered the short ribs, pork loin and bulgogi. The short ribs I ordered reminded me of the beef sticks my family eats at house parties. Other than that, everything here pretty much tastes the same anywhere. Just wished we knew ahead of time that we should have ordered more earlier, we got comp. oranges and the check as soon as our meat was slowly disappearing into our bellies. As soon as I came to the restaurant, I spoke English saying to we have three people. but for some reason the man kept saying Korean to us but obviously I don't speak Korean and I also not Korean. I think the restaurant is run by a family. The mom compared to the others was nice. The dad was rude and he was the one serving us. He overcooked the meat and we were trying to close the fire but he got annoyed us doing that. The meat portion was tiny and it is very over expensive compared to the portion it has. We only got a small bowl of lettuce and when asked for another small portion of white radish, kimchi, and lettuce they charged each an extra $2. The son of the family (probably the cashier) gave us the check without we asked for it. We only just finished the food and started enjoy the hot tea while talking, here goes the bill check. We neither asked for it nor making any kind of comment saying we were ready to leave. When I was filling the check for the tip, the son came over saying that "if you are not leaving then I have to make you guys sit at the empty tables." Came here for dinner on a weekday during a business trip as a party of 5 Koreans (I'm including this to preface that my experience was not inflicted by age, race, etc.). Long story short, don't come. Meat: We got kbbq and the meat quality was fine. If you get pork belly, they give you a different grill with butane gas. If you get galbi, you grill that on the main grill. Interesting that we couldn't grill both at the same time. The owner said we have to turn off the main grill fire before eating the pork belly, I guess to save gas?? Side dishes: DISCLAIMER - you get one set of side dishes or banchan for every 2 orders of meat. It says on the back of some of the menus that "additional side dishes and lettuce are $2 each" lol a basket of lettuce has like 6 lettuce leaves cut in half...lmao they give so little to begin with... Service: SHIT SHIT SERVICE. Writing this review honestly cuz of their service. The guy in the hall who takes order and sits people, I think is the owner? It looks like his wife runs the kitchen - she was really sweet and nice though. But this guy, he was so unprofessional, and just rude. We wanted to try different meats, so we were going to order in rounds. So we said we'd start with 2 orders of Anchangsal, and he was like "you're only gonna get one set of side dishes." First of all, this is the first Korean bbq I had which will cook pork belly in tinfoil. I am shocked. I asked the owner if I can cook the pork belly on the grill sheet directly and she said no... I just don't get it. The food is definitely over price. The short rib is $28 for just one bite and the meat is not very fresh. You can taste it even after it is heavily marinated. The service is horrible. The lady keeps coming and flipping our meat every 1min (when it is definitely not ready) and she keeps saying what is good to eat and asking us to take them. Very hands on. If that works for you, you are welcome to try that. I feel pushed and unable to enjoy my meal. This place is authentic. Don't be driven away from the aesthetic of the place. Walked in and immediately heard Korean being spoken from the kitchen and knew I was in for a good time. I got the KBBQ here and had the short ribs, bulgolgi, and spicy pork belly. While their KBBQ menu is limited, each dish I had was absolutely delicious. Service here was extremely good, I was consistently checked on throughout my meal by a little old Korean lady who also prepped all the meats for my party table side. Prices here are in line with the other KBBQ options in the area (which tend to run on the pricier side compared to KBBQ options in other states). read more

It was nice. Went here back in February, it was busy, but not too busy. Very traditional KBBQ restaurant, don't expect any frills or fanciness. Quality of meat was good. Portions were not. We ordered the samgyeopsal and the galbi, and I was disappointed to see only like 10 pieces for the price that it was. Speaking of which, the prices online are not what they are in person. Add about $7 to each for today's pricing. With that in mind, I probably will not return. read more

DO NOT COME HERE TO EAT, thank you. The other bad reviews were all right. To be honest, not trying to be racist or anything but from my observation they only treat their Korean customers nice. As soon as I came to the restaurant, I spoke English saying to we have three people. but for some reason the man kept saying Korean to us but obviously I don't speak Korean and I also not Korean. I think the restaurant is run by a family. The mom compared to the others was nice. The dad was rude and he was the one serving us. He overcooked the meat and we were trying to close the fire but he got annoyed us doing that. The meat portion was tiny and it is very over expensive compared to the portion it has. We only got a small bowl of lettuce and when asked for another small portion of white radish, kimchi, and lettuce they charged each an extra $2. The son of the family (probably the cashier) gave us the check without we asked for it. We only just finished the food and started enjoy the hot tea while talking, here goes the bill check. We neither asked for it nor making any kind of comment saying we were ready to leave. When I was filling the check for the tip, the son came over saying that "if you are not leaving then I have to make you guys sit at the empty tables." I know the place is getting busier but there is obviously other empty tables. I have never seen a restaurant like this making their customers leave. Don't come here. read more

I was really craving for some Korean BBQ and I was informed that this was one of the better places to try (Boston is a no go evidently). The restaurant itself is nothing fancy (quite dated to be honest) though the grills and vent hoods they have look to be quite new and did a phenomenal job at ensuring we didn't come out covered in grease (although my clothes did smell like bbq for a few hours...). One thing to note about Korean BBQ (and this place is definitely no exception) is the price. At the very MINIMUM you need to have 2 orders of BBQ in order to use the grill and since the cheapest BBQ option they offer is $20.99... well that's ~$42 to have any chance of having any BBQ... so this place is definitely not the place to be for cheap eats. We opted for 2 orders of short rib and one order of spicy pork for the BBQ as well as a bean curd soup dish. The soup wasn't too bad with lots of flavor but it was a tad salty for me (and I was here for the BBQ...not the soup so.....). The short rib was tasty and came with a basket of lettuce to wrap the meat once it's cooked (this is the proper way to eat the short rib). You can eat it with just rice but if you want a more authentic experience then some assembly is required! The waitress will come and cut and position the beef for you once in a while so don't be alarmed if she comes and starts manipulating your food! The spicy pork (Jeyook Yangnyum Gui) is also quite flavorful and has a nice spice to it so if you like something with some heat then give this a try. Overall I had no complaints with the food. I only wish it was cheaper but alas, there's not enough competition to drive the prices down. I would rate this as a 3.5 but since I can't a 3 will have to do. For a cheaper experience you can buy the meat at the H - Mart and have your own homemade Korean BBQ experience! read more

I always wanted try this place rather than going to H mart. The waitress was mean and angry..! Maybe she had a bad day. This place didn't have egg or soybeansoup. When I asked the waitress she said no. Ok not a problem.. She asked where I am from. Then she gave me whole lecture about Boston Korean restaurant doesn't serve egg or Soybean soup. I ordered Galbi for three people and a spicy octopus. It was family gathering I didn't want to ruin. When she cooked Galbi she was not pleasant end up telling her I will cook and serve myself because she had this attitude. We all thought what do we do wrong? She ruined family gathering. I couldn't finish the meal end up taking out.. Go to H mart Burlington. Much better! read more
