I've been coming to this restaurant for years and have always enjoyed the food, which is why this experience was so disappointing. For the first time, I ordered through DoorDash and paid more than I normally would in-store. However, my child's meal did not include a drink, even though the menu clearly says "Kids Meal w/ Drink." I also didn't receive sauces that are usually included with meals, and found out they now charge extra for them. What's frustrating is that there is nothing posted on the menu or online explaining that orders placed through DoorDash are different. If portions or included items change depending on how you order, that needs to be clearly communicated. Paying more and getting less--without any notice--feels misleading. I hope management takes this seriously because this isn't the experience I've had here in the past.

No meat? I thought I got chicken and steak. It's sprinkled with a little meat on top. Went up to the counter and they said that's the way it is.

I was driving by this restaurant and noticed a number of people going in so I decided to join the crowd. I ordered the chicken hibachi which came full of vegetables including broccoli, carrots, onions and zucchini. The wait was not that long despite being crowded. I liked the fact that my meal was cooked fresh to order. The only reason this is not a 4 star rating was I felt that the chicken portion was a little bit skimpy . Too much rice, not enough protein. I will return to try something else in the future

The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza so parking isn't an issue. There are several tables and chairs inside of the restaurant to dine in. Drinks, silverware, and sauces are self serve. I have been to this restaurant many times before and have always had good experiences. Today the food wasn't that great. I ordered the shrimp hibachi meal. You get a decent amount of food for the price. The food was served in a decent amount of time. However the rice was gummy and it tasted like it was missing something. The shrimp was good but portions of them were cooked a little too long. The plate is also served with a lot of vegetables such as zucchini, broccoli, carrots, and onions. I ate my meal with white sauce and it was good. If you get more than one serving of it there is a charge. The staff was friendly as usual. It will probably be a long time before I return.

A great lunch spot. We got the hibachi chicken and hibachi steak n shrimp. Both are great! There was a little bit of a wait but it was worth it.

My expectation for sushi at an establishment called New Japan Express was perhaps best summed as disappointing. All of the sushi choices were ultra micro portions, dry, and not very fresh at all. The rice was ultra sticky. Overall no flavor, texture, freshness, and proper color. Soy sauce is packet delivered. Overall a less than pleasant experience.

Horrible service and long wait time. Sushi rolls were not that good. Save your time and go somewhere else.

Good food for a fast casual restaurant. Save some money and order a kids portion, it is still a lot of food

Good food and plenty of it. Everyone left with big plates of left overs. Definitely recommend being seated with the chef, great experience.

I have also been looking for a sushi that incorporates lemon for a long time now...I was so excited to see that O-ku had one! I had the crispy rice, edamame, salmon & lemon maki, and clouds of white cocktail. I genuinely loved everything; even the tastes I tried of my friend's dishes and cocktails too. The sushi was fresh and some of the best I've had in Raleigh. This place is super cute and cozy. A great atmosphere for a date night or night out with a group. I'll be back for sure.

I was having a hard time finding a place in Raleigh that served quality ingredient sushi & was worth the price for the quantity. We found ourselves at O-Ku after a friend recommended this place as her favorite sushi in Raleigh. Immediately was impressed, as we came for my birthday & the staff signed a birthday card for me and gave me a surprise dessert. Excellent service! On my 2 year wedding anniversary we came back again bc we loved the sushi the first time and wanted to have delicious food on our special night. The staff once again surprised us with flowers on the table, a special printed menu that said 2nd year Anniversary & a dessert to go. This place is absolutely stunning inside as well. Beautiful restaurant, they also have an intimate outdoor patio with pretty lights. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion or even just a night out if you're looking for the best sushi in Raleigh! Love ya, O-Ku -- we'll be back!

As Japanese visitors, we're always a bit picky when it comes to Japanese food, but everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and authentic. We enjoyed the Ishiyaki ribeye, ramen, and sushi, and were also impressed by the excellent selection of Japanese beers and sake. We didn't expect to find such high quality Japanese cuisine in Raleigh, and it exceeded our expectations. A special thank you to Marika, who was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. Her warm hospitality made us feel right at home and truly made our dining experience even more memorable. Whether you're visiting Raleigh or live in the area, we highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks to the outstanding food and Marika's exceptional service, this meal will always be one of our favorite memories of our time in Raleigh.

Five stars, no hesitation…read more I heard about Sono Sushi through Resy and finally made it in. It's located in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street, right next to the ABC 11 studios, easy to find and a great spot if you're already downtown. The ambiance is great and fits the food well. There's a nice mix of seating, tables along the windows looking out onto the street, high top tables, traditional dining tables, and a sushi bar if you want to sit up close and watch everything being made. It feels lively without being loud, and works well whether you're there for a date night or a more casual meal. We started with the Aburi appetizer, torched salmon belly, ooba, salmon roe, Japanese seabream, yuzu kosho, and ponzu, and it was outstanding. Everything worked together perfectly, rich, bright, and balanced. I also ordered ikura and ebi, even though I meant to order ama ebi, but no regrets there. Still excellent. We shared the Poke Roll with wakame, avocado, cucumber, mango, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and Sono poke sauce, and it was very good, fresh, flavorful, and well composed without being overdone. My wife ordered the spicy miso ramen and loved it. The broth was the star, deep and comforting, and the pork chashu pieces were massive, in a good way. I went with the chicken katsu curry, panko fried chicken thigh with house curry and koshihikari rice, something I haven't had since Little Tokyo in LA a few years ago, and it tasted like home. Comforting, familiar, and exactly what I was hoping for. For drinks, I ordered the "SONO? SO-YES!" entirely because of the name, but also because I love blood orange. Casamigos Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, coconut cream, simple syrup, and blood orange juice, it was excellent. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it. My wife got the Okinawa Spritz, a play on an Aperol spritz with passionfruit, and it was even better than the original. We finished with the yuzu cheesecake. I debated between that and the ube cheesecake, but since this is a Japanese restaurant, yuzu felt right, and it absolutely delivered. Overall, everything from the food to the drinks hit. This is a place I would happily return to, and honestly, I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

The shredded chicken was tender and generously portioned, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly with a rich, jammy yolk. A friend ordered the Spicy Tan Tan, and I tried a few bites. Flavor-wise, it was excellent -- rich, bold, and deeply savory -- but it was extremely spicy. Definitely delicious, just something to be aware of if you're sensitive to heat. We also shared a hand roll, which was a great addition. Fresh, well made, and nicely balanced, with good quality fish and seasoned rice. A solid bite to have alongside the ramen. Overall, everything was filling and genuinely delicious. Ingredients tasted fresh, portions were generous, and the flavors were thoughtfully done. We had the spicy miso ramen that sported a lot of chicken and a delicious broth. Very bold yet balanced flavors. As for the three hand roll set that we ordered we found out we are not real fans of hand rolls. I should have looked up what makes a hand roll a hand roll. (It's the nori, the seaweed wrapper, that sets it apart in the world of sushi.) The salmon, yellowfin tuna, and crab were so fresh that they tasted fishy to us. Again, I believe it's user error that this dish didn't fly with us. We used the soy sauce mixed with wasabi to disguise the fishy taste. Lesson learned.
