A nice little Indian cuisine fix with no frills and wait time! The restaurant is very spacious, very simple and no frills. Entrees take a reasonable time so make sure to order an appetizer to keep your hungry tummy at bay. Dishes we ordered to compare with other Indian restaurants: -tikka masala with chicken -yellow daal -vegetable pakora -veg samosa Here's what they had that we liked: -adjustable spice levels (1-6) -vegan friendly -very positive and attentive customer service -great portions -free parking -basmati rice comes with every curry I would give it a 4/5. The spice in Kapahulu... Love this location as it's one of very few that offers free private parking which is quite difficult in Kapahulu though the search is always worth the effort as what you'll find here are some yummy flavorful dishes. Walking in I was quite impressed with the amount of seating they have here though I do remember pretty far back in the day of what it used to be and am so delighted to see that the building still remains the same and is thriving with New Kamana Kitchen and what it offers. The staff here is just a delight as I took mom out for dinner and decided on this place as I know how much she loves naan bread and know that grazing here would be just perfect and we ordered Butter Chicken and nice that we're able to adjust the spice level which had to be mild was just perfect as it arrived practically spilling over the side was a generous lovely goodness and we were just so excited. All dishes come with rice which always paired up perfect as mom ate it with her butter naan bread and I ate mine with rice making it the perfect pairing with this pair and thank goodness we stuck with this simple meal as it was enough to put us into instant food coma and packed it for lunch tomorrow...woohoo! Friends & I have been on a hunt for the best indian restaurant on island. Went in around 11:30am & we were the first customers inside (they open at 11am). The restaurant itself is pretty big, but was a little warm inside even with the ac running. For food, we ordered the butter chicken, chicken saag, & shrimp korma, garlic cheese & garlic naan, & the samosa chat. All were good, but my favorites were the garlic cheese naan and butter chicken. The food came out pretty quick. Service was ok, as it did take some time to flag the server down at the end of the meal & no one came to check on us during. New Kamana Kitchen is very easy to find in Kapahulu. They have parking around the corner, although my husband and I parked in the paid lot on the left side street (our bad :)). Walking in, it's open, a lot of light, with a clean but hole in the wall vibe. This is not a bad thing, we usually like places like this because it's a sign of potentially good food to us . The service was good - nice and stopped by just enough to check in and still let us dine in peace :). The food was so good! We regret not getting at least one of the dishes as medium, but that was our own fault for being cautious to order. Everything was tasty, and the meats were simmered to a soft and flavorful perfect bite. The palak paneer was actually the best we've had on the island so far! Of course the butter naan was also good, thicker than I've had before but that just made the meal so much more rich and satisfying. Overall the price wasn't too bad considered we both left so full and enough leftovers for another full meal together. Definitely recommend! read more

Lucky enough to snag one of several parking spots for early lunch this morning! All of the staff was very friendly and efficient...immediately felt like lunch was going to be awesome. And it was! Tried the butter chicken, garlic naan, and lamb vindaloo - these are typically my staples to benchmark if an Indian restaurant is good. Happy to report that New Kamana Kitchen cooked those dishes superbly. The server we had was really funny - he joked around with us and made ordering and his check-ins very enjoyable. Only knocking this rating down because 1) The benches we sat on were rather worn in and torn, making the cushioning a bit uneven; and 2) Parking was hard to find when we went later at night - there are some spots dedicated for the restaurant, maybe a half dozen or so, but they were all full for a while when we first arrived. A non descriptive restaurant on the corner of Kapahulu and Palani. Best to park on Date street...only street parking available. The food was good with rich sauces. Had 3 dishes, palek paneer, coconut fish curry and lamb tikki marsala. As well as garlic naan. I have to say this would best be a take out spot...the restaurant is clean but ac didn't seem to work so it was a bit warm and there's not much ambiance. Just plain booth seats. Also a funny thing with paying the bill with a credit card... when handed the device for the bill, the first thing was the tips screen and no summary of the bill, not even the total bill amount. Based on a take out order, this place was not enjoyable . We ordered a mango lassi and it came from a milk container. It was not good, tasted like melted fake mango ice cream. We did enjoy the naan and the dipping sauce but the curries had a microwaved old taste . This place also a Nepalese / Indian fusion . Indian food is my favorite, and I'm thankful for this recent surge in excellent restaurants in Honolulu lately. For many years we were stuck with a handful, even the best of which isn't like what we have now. Kamana Kitchen has a handful of locations across the state, some of which are now independent. On Oahu, Kamana Kitchen downtown is an absolute favorite spot for work lunches. I've dined in a few times, but it's small. Then enter New Kamana Kitchen on Kapahulu. This location is much closer to where I live, so I think it'll become one I visit more regularly. I believe this location was a pho restaurant in the past; it has lots of booths and tables of various sizes, including being able to accommodate larger parties. There isn't much of a character to it yet, but the food makes up for it. I called ahead the night I wanted to try it, and even though they don't really take reservations, they did. Our server was Bipin, who was immediately extra friendly and happy to get us whatever we needed. I also asked about corkage fees, as there's a note on the menu, but it wasn't enforced which was great as I brought beer. They even gave us clean chilled glasses as needed. We ordered chicken buriyani, samosas with various chutney, and palak paneer. We loved all three in different ways; nothing was overly salty, spice level was lovely and elevated. The samosas were well done and crispy. I especially loved the spices on the buriyani plus the yogurt sauce to go with it. Naan was also nicely baked with crispy parts but still soft. Overall, even dining in with tip, the prices here are very reasonable over similar style restaurants. If you take into account the quality, this is probably one of the best Indian restaurants in town. If you're a fan, it's a must-try. read more

Grand Opening was on Sunday for New Kamana Kitchen 2 , located at the corner of Winam Avenue and Palani Avenue. Parking on Winam fronting an apartment building - about 2 or 3 stalls - Little Sweet (adjoining shop ) has 2 stalls. Hours are daily from 1100 till 2100. They took over the spot that Haili's had for years. Kamana 2 offers large dining area. They offer mobile ordering via door dash only, for now. I walked in and ordered takeaway: Veggie Samosas and Chana Masala. I visited their original location in Downtown when they first opened...years ago. Vegetarian Samosas were tasty if a bit heavier - the pastry shell - than my preference. The red chutney was sweet and spicy; the green was sharp and sour. Requested a mild - I don't have a high spice tolerance - Chana Masala. It was a bit okay and as I guessed , the mild was kinda spicy. Takeout took ten minutes as mentioned by the cashier...place was empty...and I got my food around that time frame. Lots of vegetarian options. read more

From the second I walked into the establishment, I knew I was in for an experience. Bollywood on the TV, not another Caucasian person in the place (always a good sign). Ordered the vegetable pakora and the paneer butter masala. When the waiter asked for spice level, I did what I always do at Indian restaurants and said "spicy." He looked me dead in the eyes and said, "Are you sure you can handle that?" I asked how spicy it was. He just nodded. Fair enough. Spicy it is. While I was working through the pakora and waiting on the entrée, the entire kitchen staff slowly started filing out, one by one, giving me the up-and-down like I was prey. Eyeing up their next victim, I guess. God forbid a white boy have a little culture. The food came out hot and steaming. And honestly? It was excellent. The naan was super light and flavorful, and the paneer butter masala was rich, well-textured, and clearly made with care. That said... the promised land of sweat and tears never arrived. It was tasty, but nowhere near as spicy as advertised. Meanwhile, the kitchen staff kept peeking out, watching every bite, probably wondering what dark magic I had used to avoid the pain. The server came over and greeted us with a lot of energy and made us excited for the food to come. We ordered a variety of curry, meat dishes, and naan.
