But, my favorite is the Pad Ki Mao with shrimp (you can choose your protein because it's made to order). The wide, chewy noodles, stir-fried fresh veggies, and robust but bright sauce always leaves me satisfied yet wishing for more. That's a memorable meal! While we've dined in a few times, we generally tend towards take-out. We don't use the online order and just call in. They pick up quickly and the order process is complete in seconds. Super convenient! They have a small parking lot in the back of the restaurant but there is also parking on King Street and on Makahiki Way. It's great for a lunch or dinner date or for groups. This is my favorite Thai restaurant on the island! The ambience is amazing and the food is absolutely incredible. My friend and I always get the massaman curry and pad see ew and it is made to perfection every time. My friend is vegetarian, so we always get cooked that way. They have no issue modifying for your diet needs. The best part of this place is the waiter, Kevin. The first time we ate, he was able to cater to his diet no problem. He already started to recognize my friend and I the second time we visited and remembered our order from our first! He quickly made us feel like regulars. I used to say you can't really mess up pad Thai......I was proven wrong. I'm not sure what exactly happened but they've either slid in some tofu to my chicken pad Thai or it was just some chewy, rubbery chicken. Either way was not good. Such a great restaurant! We didn't feel like cooking that day, so we chose a restaurant kind of at random and I guess we got lucky. At first glance the prices seemed a bit high but the portions are family style and very worth the cost for the size and quality. The interior is pretty nice too, cozy and traditional but still a nice dine in experience. The staff were also efficient and friendly and the owner was so nice. I have a terrible spice tolerance but the owner assured us the dishes we got weren't going to be too spicy and he was right, they were all really good and still super flavorful without being too spicy. We got the duck breast curry, khao soi, thai ginger chicken and grilled pork jowl. Everything was fantastic, we got the pork jowl medium spicy which i was worried might be too hot for me, but it was great and not too hot! It has a nice char to it and was so flavorful with the herbs, pepper and onions it's cooked with. The khao soi was also a winner, it came with fried soft shell crabs which went amazing in the savory and rich curry sauce. The noodles were housemade and had a nice chew to them. Loved the thai ginger chicken too, it definitely needed that side of rice to soak up all that delicious sauce. It was a very comforting flavor, like a chicken soup but brighter. Last but not least we got the duck breast curry. It had a ton of bamboo shoots and fresh pineapple stewed together for an earthy, sweet flavor that went great with the grilled duck breast! Personally I like duck a little more rare but it wasn't too tough and still had a great grilled flavor. The flavor of the pineapple was also great in the sauce but I don't care for pineapple itself so I did pick those out. Went great with the side of sticky rice though! Then we also got a thai tea brulee for dessert and it was fantastic! The crust was thin, crisp, and delicate, the custard was light and kind of fluffy like a mousse. It had a light thai tea flavor and was just the right amount of sweet. After the tax and a 20% tip it was about $170 for three people, but we absolutely over ordered and had plenty leftover for a second dinner the next day. All in all well worth it and it's encouraged me to try more thai food! Can't wait to come back to Chiang Mai! read more

The meal was fine. However, I am now looking at my credit card receipt and realized they tacked on extra charges that I was not aware of until now. I slipped away from my table and gave my credit card to the waiter because I wanted to close the bill and not have anyone at the table pay. They ran my card on a handheld POS system where I pushed buttons for the tip and it spit out some papers. I'm now looking at my itemized bill and the credit card receipt. Check the POS screen and bill before you pay for anything! I didn't see anything on the menu or my bill about the extra 3% credit card use surcharge on the entire bill. Dispute if they don't mention it to you then stick it to you without telling you. Although it's just few bucks, it's the principle. Also, it's based on the entire bill + tip, so the more you tip, the more you pay in the surcharge. That's a disincentive for a larger tip. Secondly, don't automatically hit the tip percentage on their POS system. Their tips are calculated based on meal total + sales tax, which a lot, but not all restaurants do. I find annoying when it does happen. Tips are supposed to be based on just the pretax meal total. Why do you need to pay extra tip based on a tax (i.e. a gratuity charge based on a tax you're already paying for that's a pass-thru charge for the business)? Choose to do a manual tip instead, based on your bill subtotal. read more

Chang Mai is a favorite. The ambience is casual and cozy. Very comfortable and clean. The Pad Thai with chicken I had was excellent and a great portion. My husband had the Tom YUM and Panang curry. It was also a good portion and sauce I had to taste bit , also very tasty. Will definitely recommend and repeat visit. One more thing , if you order out, pick it up yourself. Prices for the entrees with DoorDash are 5 or 6 dollars more than if you go yourself. If not take-out, dining in is very nice. read more

My favorite things to get here are the pineapple curry with rice and the golden calamari! You get rice separately. Also they do have a vegetarian menu so they are vegetarian friendly, just make sure you let them know that. I went here on a Thursday night. Depending on where you're seated, you can get booth-ish seating that have comfy cushions or you can get the western dining table kind with cushions. That's what we got since we had a party of 6 people. We went for dinner at 7:30pm and we made a reservation so it was easy and it was fairly busy. Service - Service was fine and our waiter was nice. Cost - The range is around $15 - $22 per dish depending on what protein you get. Parking - They have a small lot right behind them that maybe fits like 5 - 7 cars? I don't recall. There is also street parking in front and on the side. Location - It's on King Street like if you're headed towards Kaimuki. It's on a corner right across from the Mō'ili'ili library and it's next to several other restaurants. This is my third time coming here. I like getting the golden calamari, pineapple curry with rice, and pad kee mao (I didn't see it on the menu this time so we asked them and they made it). I usually get my food spicy but not this time around since I was with people who could only handle negative spice (HAHA) so I asked for some on the side and they'll give you a chili sauce and red pepper flakes. We shared the spring rolls, golden calamari, long rice with chicken salad, green curry, ong choi with chicken, and pad thai noodles. All the dishes were flavorful. I liked the ong choi with chicken. Food was 8/10 it was very tasty. My family member didn't like curry so I asked if I could just have fried chicken and rice and they were more than willing to do a special order which I was very pleased. My initial food I wanted to order didn't have noodles but they said they could add noodles. They were very accommodating. My other family member had curry and they were very helpful to say it didn't come with rice and if they wanted to order a small bowl of rice. They didn't come to refill quickly with the drinks but with me I love water. Over all experience would be 7/10 they were very nice to say thank you for coming to eat at their business. Ambience - decent Food is very bland and not spicy at all. Regardless it barely tasted like Thai food. The fish laulau is essentially Thai steamed fish cake (haw mok pla) but it was over cooked and burned on the bottom. How is that possible for a fish that is supposed to be steamed. I gave this place 3/5 stars. Out of the four dishes I ordered, only the Chiang Mai Wings really stood out--they were flavorful and well-executed. Unfortunately, the other three dishes (Pad Thai, Thai Yellow Curry, and Hot Spicy Clams) were underwhelming and honestly not as good as what you can find at many other Thai restaurants in Honolulu. That made it especially disappointing given the higher price point. The service was also very slow given the restaurant was less than half full, we had to wait a long time to order food and receive the bill. Phenomenal greeting, service, and sensational Thai cuisine. I used to go there 30 years ago with Mom, it was her favorite restaurant. We moved and I found another Thai restaurant closer to us. Just went with Ohana, twice and we were blown away by the greeters warmth and smiles. They accommodated us (I had a little dog in his stroller) with a sincere "welcome". The waiter, Kevin is the finest, funniest, engaging Server I have ever experienced. I also was a waitress and could appreciate his enthusiasm and efficiency. Kevin's assistant is also exemplary. The entire staff was outstanding!!! Now ... for the food. Remember Mekongs on Beretania? They were the first Thai restaurant to open in Honolulu. They also opened Keo's. Chiang Mai has the same mouth watering taste experience. The dishes were memorable and delicious. Went on a hunt for Thai food tonight. The place I wanted to try was booked with 2 private parties so looked for alternatives on Cooke street which has 2 Thai restaurants about 2 blocks apart. We decided against them since we couldn't find parking. One looked "too funky" and the other had homeless residences in front so we decided on a tried and true favorite Chiang Mai. Tonight we had : Thai yellow curry Eggplant with beef Chiang Mai Curry Noodle Cashew Chicken (Oops! Only took two pix due to hunger.) Everything was good except for the cashew which was just ok but lacked oomph. We appreciated the pleasant and friendly service especially by the new owner, Kissa, who has taken over from his late father. TL;DR My favorite Thai spot in town. Spring Rolls = ONO (!!!) Thai Red, Yellow, and Green Curry = ONO Pad Siew = ONO Thai Fried Rice = ONO Chiang Mai Casserole = oh no ----- I live right next to a Bangkok Chef, but I always make the trek to Chiang Mai instead for Thai food. There is a parking lot with a limited number of spaces behind the restaurant. If it's full, there's usually street parking within a block of the restaurant. I've been taking out from Chiang Mai for over a year now, but just a couple weeks ago was the first time I actually dined in the restaurant. My MIL, wife, daughter, and I finally visited to celebrate my MIL's retirement. There was no issue making a reservation online, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The spring rolls are an absolute must order. There's not much more to say other than if you aren't ordering the spring rolls you are doing yourself a disservice. My family's typical order includes two types of curries (red, yellow, and green are all wonderful), pad siew (love the thick noodles here), thai fried rice (mmmmmm), and then one or two add-on dishes depending on how we're feeling. We decided to try the Chiang Mai Casserole for the first time and were sadly disappointed. I think the word "casserole" is misused here; it's more of a noodle dish (think Thai seafood long rice). The restaurant is located on South King Street, opposite Savers in Honolulu. The food is great here. Their Khoa Soi and Kra Pao (Thai loco moco) in their special menu is so ono. Drunken Noodle or Pad Khee Mao is a must have (please ask the waiter for it)! The service is nice and all staff are friendly. They have parking in the back of the restaurant or you can park at the meter stalls in front of restaurant after 6:30 pm. They also have Live Music on Saturday from 6:30 pm.
