This was my first ( but not my last) visit to the grill. Very original New Mexico style food. The enchilada sauce was spicy and definitely made with red chili. The chili relleno was superb as was the fried beans. The rice, good but made from converted rice which results in overcooked rice and grains split but still tasty My only complaint is the food served on paper plates. My enchilada's cheese was melted into the paper when placed into the oven to melt it. But don't get me wrong the food is well worth the wait. I ordered the Machaca burrito with green on the side (don't like the tortilla getting soggy from the sauce). Not sure what the meat was seasoned with, but it had a funky flavor - maybe just straight up chile powder perhaps. Needless to say, had it not been for the green chili, this burrito would have had little flavor. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to drench a burrito with sauce for flavor; I could have easily ordered a bean burrito and had the same experience for much less. We ate inside the restaurant and while we were dining the employees were wiping down the wall next to us with some potent cleaner. We were there at 6:30 p.m., so it wasn't like they were trying to clean up to close. Not a good business practice in my opinion. Last, while I understand the need to cover credit card surcharges, the fact that this was NOT disclosed until AFTER I paid and saw it on my receipt is not acceptable. Based on the quality of food, dining experience and the non-disclosure of the credit card surcharge I won't be putting this on my list of places to visit. read more

Peoria I met a friend for lunch and I asked her if we could do a mom and pop so she picked this place I had the carne asada chimichanga with red sauce it was excellent The meat was tender the meat had a lot of flavor the tortilla was just perfect we were given chips and salsa and the chips were very good sometimes they taste like they were store-bought but these taste fresh The salsa was excellent I'm sure it was homemade My friend had the bean burrito and I had a taste of it it was very good.... but the best was Marco.... he is the manager he was excellent came out asked if we needed anything kept coming towards table cleaning off our plates. he was excellent now unfortunately I don't know if I'll be back because I really don't go to that side of town but if you live in Gilbert definitely go to this restaurant... it is a mom-and-pop... it is cute they have a variety of menu options .....we sat outside, it was pleasant the weather was perfect.. My friend told me about this place and I decided to give it a try or how I regret it so much . I ordered chicken nachos and 2 Chile enchiladas. Nachos - they put a little guacamole , sour cream and barely cheese so I paid 14$ for chips . I call to let them know and I get Tracey on the phone . This is where it starts ....... I tell her about the nachos and how they were basically chips she said ' I can't do anything about it and HUNG UP ON ME" I called back 5 times no one answered. I show up to the restaurant and ask to speak to Tracey who likes to hang up on customers . The girl said she isn't here . I said ok where is your manager ? She said she's not here either . Now this girl is giving me an attitude and laughing and ignoring me and she thinks it's a joke ? 5 mins later I ask the girl who is the person behind you ? She said the manager!! I said I thought she wasn't here ? I spoke to the manager and explained everything to her and her response back is that they're teenagers! - I don't care what they are they are working and giving attitudes and hanging up on customers ??? She said well they're teens . I was so upset that I told the manager that her leadership is not helping her TEEN employees . I requested that the owner reach out to me. Food is a 10/10 no doubt supper supper consistent been going here for YEARS. But what else is consistent is terrible service and you get very little chips. Employees make you feel like an annoyance unless you tip and even then you still get C tier service. Don't recall if anyone has ever smiled while I was there lol. Several times we have dined in with 4+ and they give you one batch of chips (which is already a lite amount for one) and make you pay for more. These issues have only gotten worse since 2020/2021. Really is a shame because this spot has been here for so long. Coming from a someone with previous experience in restaurants it's really disappointing how unwelcoming it feels mid day. This place has rules all over the place! No outside drinks, no chips while waiting for a to go order, don't touch the forks and knives unless you need it. I can't even tell what is a fork and knife cause the utensils look all the same! Now for the food. It's pretty solid all around. The machaca is really good, the fry bread is light and delicious and the chicken salad is a large portion and delicious. All their items are huge and can be shared. The bummer to me is all the rules they place that is a little off putting with wanting to support them. It doesn't give off a good vibe to come in a restaurant to feel like they just want your money and to leave. Good place but it needs to be more inviting to want to support them often read more

Easily one of my favorite places to eat in AZ (and one of the few cuisines you CAN'T find in LA). New Mexican cuisine introduces Indian fry bread (decadent, piping hot, fluffy goodness) that can be dipped in a hearty green stew and made into amazing tacos. It's been a while since I've been here, but I'm so glad it's as tasty and affordable as ever. My dad got a breakfast machaca taco (has three fried eggs) for $8.99 before tax and I got their famous green chile stew (comes with a fresh Indian fry bread) for $7.89 before tax. What a steal. Quick Tips: -Ample parking in a busy parking lot shared with Hen House Cafe. -Plenty of seating inside and outside for small groups (2tops and 4tops) -Order and pay at the counter and they bring to you -Free chips for dine in customers (but I think they only give them out in the afternoon) -Despite 'red' usually being perceived as spicier, green chile is more spicy. That being said, this time my stew wasn't very spicy (chiles probably need to cook for a while before they get super potent) -Taco Tuesday special! But I doubt it applies to Indian fry bread -Get a New Mexican Taco (Indian fry bread) Taste 5/5 I personally remember it spicier (I'm a heat seeker), but otherwise this was such an amazingly heart stew of tender chunks of pork, tomatoes, potatoes, and green onions. So amazing. DIP THE BREAD. My Dad let me mooch off of his dinner-plate sized taco. Machaca was stewed in a smokey red chile. Fried eggs were the icing on the cake. Price 5/5 Stupid affordable. It has been over a year since I was last here as I now live much further away. Stopped today and had lunch with a friend. Ordered the chicken burrito combo smothered in green sauce. Love it! Same great food as before. Nothing has changed except no more self-serve chips/salsa and the price have gone up. Later is the same everywhere though. This place gives big portions too so the next time I go I will split it with someone, because we left with 2 boxes of leftovers. This is my new favorite place to go eat for the foreseeable future. Frybread and Hatch chiles, you can't go wrong with that combo! Get ready for some hearty New Mexico style eats at this restaurant. The menu consists of Mexican food favorites, breakfast items, and frybread. I had the machaca frybread. It was made in record time, perfect for lunchtime eating. The frybread was puffy and slightly crisp around the edges with a heaping portion of oregano-infused, slow cooked shredded beef, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, and green onion. You have your choice of red or green sauce for your frybread as well. Since this is New Mexico style fare, I had to have it XMas style, with both green and red sauce :). It was such a big meal I could only finish about half of it and packed the rest to go. The only slight negative was that I wish the frybread were a little more crisp but that's me being really nitpicky about the meal. Service was very friendly and they make you feel right at home here. To start off, the food at New Mexican Grill used to be 5 stars. Sadly, I've had to drop my score for New Mexican Grill to 2 due to the quality of the food. They USED to have the best Pork Green Chili in town, however they've recently changed the recipe, AND are adding stewed tomatoes (yuc) into it. Honestly, we couldn't even taste the green chili, could find no actual pieces of green chili, and highly doubt they're using fresh green chili at all. We were sooooo sad to have had to experience this changed pork green chili, and we can no longer consider this "Authentic" and won't be going back. So I love eating at NMG. We have been coming for years. The carne asada is awesome. I am leaving 4 stars instead of 5 because they stopped doing a self serve salsa and chip bar and raised prices. While I get higher prices due to the economy, I'm bummed about that and also that you only get a tiny bowl of chips and salsa for the table to share. Be warned, I recommend getting any sauce on the side bc it is hot!!! I'd recommend getting it on the side at first. I know that's the New Mexican way, so don't say I didn't warn you! Lol. read more

I found out that the New Mexican Grill was open to takeout and curbside. I tried to call and there was no answer. I get to the restaurant and the employees were all leaving. They said they were closed. It was 2:50 pm when I got there and they told me they closed at 3 pm. The sign on the window said 3 pm. I am very disappointed in their inconsistency. First off let me start by saying Ralph is a great guy and we never have an issue when he is there. That being said, when he is not there everything goes south. The food is delicious, but the customer service is horrendous. We have been going here for 7+ years and the past 6 months have been TERRIBLE. They never get the order right, but we haven't made a big deal out of it or asked for refunds/ exchanges until today. The cashier today was rude and didn't thank us for leaving a tip (whatever, don't need to be thanked but he was rude so that's why I mention it). Our order was completely wrong, but didn't know until we got to work. We called to have one of the breakfast burritos remade because what we got was not what we paid for. The first person who answered was giving nothing but excuses, but when the name Ralph was dropped the person transferred us to Marie. Marie said she would remake the burritos no problem. We go there and she wants the old burritos back. We only had half of one (gave the other one and a half away because they did not mention we needed to bring the burritos back for an exchange which is shady) and we're willing to pay for one replacement. She said no she would not do that. Mind you, we have been going there for over seven years. Tip every single time. Just wanted this issue fixed and it so poorly handled. Shame on them. If they make your order wrong, be prepared to either have to eat it or give it away. read more
