This has been my favorite restaurant since I was a little kid!! The food is amazing and totally customizable. Vegetarian? They've got options. Meat lover? They've even got lamb! Sensitive to certain flavors? They've got a million different sauces to try. Which also means you'll never get bored with your next dish! Plus, UNLIMITED SOFT SERVE! What more could you possibly want?? The staff is so sweet too--one of my earliest memories is actually having dinner at this restaurant. Baby me was crying because I let go of my balloon & it floated up to the ceiling. The owner of the restaurant actually grabbed a ladder from the back room, climbed up to the ceiling, and retrieved my balloon for me! This is royal treatment, y'all--I have never forgotten this moment. My love for this restaurant started at the tender age of 5 (or so), and has never wavered since. This is a great place when you're in the mood for food. It's a typical Mongolian Barbeque setup. You get a bowl and squash as much food into it as you can. LOL. I personally like the beef and chicken but all of the meats are good. I pile on some onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, bean sprouts, broccoli, and noodles. I also like my Mongolian BBQ spicy so I usually go with their spicy recommendation and then add more chili sauce. The ingredients are fresh and as long as you add enough of the sauces, the dish comes out great. The only drawback is that the egg rolls are not very impressive. They are just so-so. That was a bit of a disappointment as everything else is really good. By the way, I enjoy watching people cook food so that's a bonus here. You may be tempted to point out one piece of undercooked meat to them but they are very attentive -- they always catch all of them before you point them out. lol. This is a typical "Mongolian" BBQ place, where you fill a bowl with your selection of meat (several kinds, including lamb), noodles, vegetables, sauces from a buffet and then one of the staff cooks it on a very hot metal circle. All for $10.99 per person for dinner. These "Mongolian" BBQ places have been around for many decades and the experience here is typical. This one is nicer than many of them as the interior is nicely decorated. Why have I been putting "Mongolian" in quotation marks, you ask? It is because the type of food served here or the manner of cooking is not any style you would find Mongolia. I have a cousin who has been living in Mongolia for several years and I asked him about it. He said that the typical "Mongolian BBQ" place that you find anywhere except Mongolia is something that originated in Taiwan and spread around the world with a made-up story that the large hot circular grill was what the Mongol warriors used to cook food (not true). He said that most Californians probably would not like the taste of Mongolian food.... So ignoring the fact that this place is not Mongolian (in fact the decorations look to be Chinese), this is still a good place to get a reasonably priced unlimited amount of food! It's ok. RECOMMENDATION: Tell the cook add little water when he cooks your food. He pours a bucked of water when he cooks which dilutes all the seasoning that you put into your bowl. Food- ok. The cook dilutes the food Service- fast but we have to keep someone flagging down Price- ok. Average. Cheaper than the rest of the hoity toity restaurants in the area. I had to eat curry because the dude in front of my doused his shebang in curry sauce... - A little fly kept bothering me and a white spider was creeping along the wall next to me (nothing new, I got these at my house, but just something to note) - To get the most bang for your buck, don't eat too many noodles. Eat more meat! - Oh yeah, no wait time during lunch... except the line to grab your food and fry it but that's marginal, each person get like a minute or two of frying? When it's busy they add a cook, and I've only seen two at once... longest line time was maybe 10-15 minutes? It's really mediocre but this place is better than 70% of the AYCE BBQ places I've gone to so far in Bay Area in terms of quality/price, but that's not saying too much. We walk in and are greeted with a almost empty restaurant playing music from the 1950's. The food is very underwhelming with a small selection of fixings. The service was pretty good, and they handled our party of 10 smoothly. However, the food was just not good. First of all, my vegetables were not only undercooked but also had none of the caramelization you'd expect from something cooked on a hot griddle. Perhaps coming around opening time was a mistake and the griddle was not yet at full heat. I've gotten to-go here a lot of times before since it's cheaper (I suppose since there's more of a limit on how much food you can get) and I'm able to go elsewhere to eat. Recently, I did eat at the restaurant. One of the things I appreciated was receiving a pitcher of water for the table. Vegetarians, vegans, and people with allergies might find the below particularly interesting: I was told that the noodles and the egg rolls have a bit of egg -- since I don't eat egg, I didn't get either of these. Instead, they gave me rice to eat with the BBQ. I was also told that the house sauce and BBQ sauce have some fish sauce or oyster sauce (although at the time the sign on the wall claimed that the house sauce was vegetarian). So if you try to avoid such ingredients, it may be prudent to avoid those sauces. Also, this restaurant is not for you if you're concerned about your food being cooked on the same grill immediately after meat or other things have been cooked on it. Overall, I love how you can get as much food as you want (it is all-you-can-eat), and in particular, as many veggies as you want! Their selection of ingredients is reasonably plentiful. Come here for an inexpensive, ample buffet lunch. I am not experienced at this kind of eating and quite unfamiliar with the variety of sauces. The result was that my food was much too bland. I was thankful for the chili sauce on the table, but I had hoped for something more unique. Next time I will be more liberal with the sauces. The ingredients were all fresh as could be, the munch-while-in-line spring rolls were fun and the ice cream cone treat at the end of the meal was a nice touch. Believe it or not I have lived in Mtn View nearly 20 years and finally tried this place, this is one of longest standing restaurants in Mountain View. Apparently Mongolian barbecue is a stir fried dish that was developed in Taiwanese restaurants beginning in the early 1950s. interesting concept, it's not really a BBQ, closer to a stir fry. You fill a bowl with meat (chicken, lamb, pork or beef, or combo), then add veggie, noodles, and all sorts of other things. There are several sauces to top it off. Then you hand it over to the 'chef' and he cooks it on a big flat round griddle. The buffet also includes egg rolls. You can go up for seconds, or thirds...appears to be all-you-can-eat. Beer and wine is available, generous pour on the wine for around $7. I noticed a tip jar where you pick up your food after it is cooked, assume you are meant to leave a buck or two there in addition to the gratuity? They have. 4 choices of frozen sliced meat cuts(beef, lamb, pork, chicken), not too many veggie choices(onions, sprouts, mushrooms, baby corn, green bell peppers, pineapple) and noodles. The last station is the sauce station. A word of advice for the chilli sauce, less is more. So go easy unless you want to make your food exta hot! They also have vegetarian spring rolls which weren't great and had only a little cabbage in them. There's also soft serve vanilla ice cream cones. This is a good place to eat I would say don't add too much to your noodles just stick to simple ingredients your fave protein, bell peppers, broccoli, that's it. I went here with my boyfriend because it was all you can eat. I think that its a pretty good place to go if you have a big appetite (I got 2 plates). When we got there around 11, we were seated right away. The waitress asked what we wanted to drink, then we were all set to get our food. There is a little bar are the left side where theres 3 meat options (beef, chicken, and pork), veggies, and sauces. After filling up the bowls with whatever you like, they cook it with water on the Mongolian grill. I was a little worried that it was going to be watery like the other reviews had suggested, but it was just perfect. Don't ignore the signs. The old "Dishwasher wanted" sign on the window outside might've clued us in to a potential problem. The premise of Mongolian BBQ is simple: grab a bowl or two, load up on slices of meat and veggies, and the cook at the big grill cooks it all up in a minute. The selection of veggies could've been bigger. The meat selections were ok (chicken, lamb, pork and beef) but the pile of chicken was low and didn't seem to get refilled, while all the other piles were ample. The food was a little on the dry side. Since I picked my own ingredients and sauce, does that make it my fault? Somehow though, even those at our table who splurged on sauce agreed that their food tasted dry. Complimentary egg flower soup and rice are included, but you have to ask for it. Finish the meal with some soft-serve ice cream; vanilla is the only option. The first time I came here was a few years ago. I seem to have remembered this place being better. This time, for convenience's sake, we met up with some friends here for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by the re-model and how new it looked. For $7.99 at lunch time, it is a steal! You have a choice of beef, pork or chicken (lamb is added to the menu at dinnertime) and a bunch of vegetables ranging from bean sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, onions to tofu, water chestnuts and more. The only thing I would suggest is not to follow the instructions because it is always under-flavored. The chef dude told us once a long time ago to double the amount of the flavoring sauces and I've found that it does definitely taste much better. They have done away with the 'bing' -- sesame pocket bread -- but give you rice instead. Bummer because I really liked those sesame pocket bread things. All in all, I really enjoyed my meal. Make sure you go just a bit before dinner actually starts since it can get really crowded and you might have wait for seating. So this place apparently had its grand opening last Friday... replacing "Colonel Lee's Mongolian." Unfortunately.... it missed the mark. Extremely. Major perks and the only reason why I'm giving it a measly one star is the cleanliness of this place. Holy crap the cooking area was clean. And the service was great for an Asian joint. But I'm not paying 10 bucks for them to buy bleach and for the owner's son to be at my beck and call to refill my water. I want food. And I expect decent quality food. Unfortunately the selection here was sad... Very sad. There were some fried eggrolls stuffed full of cabbage and a few limp carrots. At least the sweet and sour dipping sauce was acceptable. They needed to fill the meats a lot faster. The chicken looked ok, but the beef and pork were tough and not too fantastic. The selection for veggies was sad and again... logistic issues. Overall... the food wasn't great. And I wish they had more sauces so I could make it taste better... but a Mongolian place with only 6-7 diff sauces and condiments for you to mix?! *sigh* I'm sorry... it still tasted like a cesspool of random foods stirfried together. I walked out and bought myself some gelato to make up for my calorie deficiency from not eating dinner.
