Came here a couple of times before and the lady would always serve us our food she's very kind and soft spoken for the most part . Today was completely different . A male in the establishment serviced us today and he was very rude I asked him if he put the condiments in the bag because I wasn't looking while signing my receipt and putting a cash tip in the jar( I asked because the bag was already closed and wanted to confirm ) . He got very mad and told me to take a look myself if I didn't believe him . He angrily took each one of the sweet and sour and chili oil and slammed it on the table . Came on a Thursday during lunch. This cute little place is tucked away off of El Camino near Safeway. Ordered from the Panda Express-like buffet. I was pleased with the choices! They allowed us to get half-and-half sides with our entrees. We tried the broccoli beef, kung pao chicken, Mongolian beef, and prawns with vegetables. Everything tasted delicious! There were many options to choose from, so we hope to be back soon to try some other entrees. You could also order dishes traditionally as well. Service was extremely fast and friendly. Though just a possible heads up if you plan on dining in during lunch (don't completely take my word since we were in and out the door fast), some tables were not yet cleaned from previous customers while we were in there but I think that's a great sign of how busy/good it is here! read more

6/4/2025 First Wok 653 S. Bernardo Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94087 I went there on a Wednesday evening to try their chow mein. It's at the back of the Safeway/Cherry Chase Center, lots of parking. It looks like a mostly take out place, nobody was there dining in. It's a clean table and chair setup with a slight Asian temple incense odor from an arrangement at the back of the restaurant. They have a large assortment of entrees in their steam table pans for the Express Line meals. I ordered the House Special Combination Pan Fried Noodle to go, since I didn't want to be the only guy eating there. My food was ready in about 10 minutes and the bag felt heavy, good value. The noodles were crispy and got chewier as the gravy soaked in. The combination consisted of shrimp, beef, chicken, pork, broccoli, celery, mushroom, cabbage, green onion and onion in a mild and tasty gravy. I was happy with my chow mein (good for 2+ meals) and would repeat for their other Cantonese dishes. read more

I ordered two takeout dishes. The food was shockingly bad, especially the inedible sweet and sour chicken. It was hard and dry and didn't taste like chicken. It was so awful that I spit it out. Perhaps it was composite chicken nuggets such as you would find at McDonalds. I wouldn't be surprised if it was left over from the day before. The sweet & sour sauce was negligible and was not good anyway. Kikkoman Sweet & Sour Dipping Sauce that is available in grocery stores is better. First Wok continues to be a favorite Chinese take-out restaurant for good and fairly priced food. It always hits the spot when we're craving Chinese food. They offer delivery off of Yelp, and the food always comes early or on-time. They pack it up nicely to avoid spills. They even it a hole on top of the plastic containers to help the food stay crispy and fresh. Our go-to's are... 1) garlic beef. We order ours extra crispy. Good garlic flavor on each thinly cut beef pieces. 2) salt and pepper chicken (extra crispy and spicy). Comes with green onions and jalapeños. Right amount of salt and pepper. 3) combo chow mein or chow fun. I prefer the chow mein and my wife prefers the chow fun. I find the chow fun sometimes doesn't have as much flavor due to the thickness of the noodles. The combo comes with a decent amount of proteins (chicken, shrimp, and beef) and some vegetables (onions, broccoli, and carrots). 4) walnut shrimp (extra crispy). They used to give more shrimps, but it's still a good amount compared to other Chinese restaurants like TaoTao (where you'll be lucky to get 6 shrimps). The shrimps aren't overpowered by the sauce. Good family owned restaurant that makes the delivery or pick-up experience smooth and quick. First Wok reminds me of Evergreen Panda in Eastside San Jose. read more

This is far from where we live, so we dont come here everyday. I want to tell people if you order from the Menu, it is better than the Hot Table ( look like buffet but it is not...just like Panda express). Although the Hot Table is Faster, sometimes it does not look great ( sometimes it look Fresh, but sometimes not). When the Hot Table does not look Fresh, I suggest you order from the Menu. The Menu prices are Fair. Most Chicken Dishes are 14.95? We ordered MuShu Pork ( available in Chicken too) but it was one of the best MuShu Pork we had in a long time ( and you get lots of it). I wanted to suggest to Dad that he try a Lemon Chicken or house chicken or some type of Sweet Sour dish....because on the Hot table it does not alway look fresh but if you order from the Menu, you can get it fresh plus the quantity is way more than Panda. But he wanted Tofu....which was allright but the Tofu dish he ordered ended up being fried. Anyhow, Dad complain that what he ordered taste like soy sauce...well of course it does, its a Chinese restaurant. But I suggest you order either light Veggie Dish ( look at picture outside) or String bean Chicken or Sweet Sour Pork if you dont want it to taste like Soy Sauce. Its like Panda except if you order off the Menu, it is way more Fresh and you get large quantity. And they do use Green Onion/Onion which shows they do add lots of flavour. The last dish he got was Chow Mein. It was actually very delicious ( and I dont always like chow mein). Their Chow Mein had plenty of Chicken and they were juicy pieces of Chicken...not like when we went to XLB and got fried Rice.....at XLB, the fried rice had no juicy pieces but crispy....Anyhow, here at First Wok the Chow Mein off the Menu order had lots and lots of juicy pieces of chicken and flavour was so good that I liked it ( and I normally dont eat noodle nor pasta). The lady ( or ladies) are very nice. I suggest you order from her. The guy on the other hand ( I dont know if he is owner or just works there) is not friendly. So that is the only thing to warn people about is that the guy is not super friendly. So make sure you order from the lady as she is efficient, Nice, and super friendly. Im not sure if the guy is the same guy we saw last time. Last time he is not friendly neither but that is because Dad was asking stupid questions the first time we were there ( so I could see why he was annoyed at Dad) but then when Dad tipped them, he was nicer to Dad. But this second time we went there...I cant remember if it was the same guy but he did not look happy when I brought my Mom in with me. Maybe he just wanted to watch TV and we sat in the TV room. Anyhow, even tho the guy is not always friendly ( which might ward off business), the lady was super nice, so make sure you look for the lady. This is a hidden Gem. You just have to Order off the Menu if the Hot table does not look great ( and when they are not too busy so they can cook everything you order). I suggest you go on Slow day to get better service. I notice that all the To Go orders that customers were ordering one dish at a time...since they give such huge quantities. Service is always fantastic. Amy is a very kind person who knows how to make the customer experience great! The food is great, with the Orange Chicken and Garlic Chicken being our family favorites! The chowmein, chowfun, and fried rice are all fantastic. The sweet and sour chicken and shrimp are great, and the salt and pepper fish is great as well. Let's get a few things straight first: * This is not a fine dining establishment so I'm comparing it against other casual dining spots (but expect more than fast food) * I tend to avoid buffets, even pre COVID, as you don't know how long it's been sitting there. * I'm not worrying about authenticity -- just food I enjoy eating. I will let others decide if it's truly Chinese. I was craving Chinese and, with Mandarin Gourmet closed, I don't have a go-to spot. We decided to try First Wok based on reviews. And, of course, we ordered way too much so we could sample the menu. On to the food: Hot & sour soup -- the large is enough for 3-4 people. I liked the spiciness but wish it had a bit more egg and a few more mushrooms. Chicken rice noodle -- essentially stir fry with rice noodles instead of rice or noodles. A surprisingly flavorful dish. Mixed vegetable with tofu -- the only dish we wouldn't repeat. Not bad but just not remarkable. Vegetables were good but the tofu was bland. Sautéed three ingredient -- prawns, scallops, and squid with a ton of snow peas and some carrots. The oyster sauce was very good. Did I say it was a LOT of snow peas? BBQ pork with string beans -- sliced BBQ pork with a generous amount of string beans. Quite good but I would have enjoyed a little more spice; maybe more garlic? The above was enough food for two people over three meals, and we ate well each time. If you don't mind buffets, you can walk in and order a three item combo. Been going to this resturant for awhile, the quality and service is always top and friendly. There isn't any judgement if your smelling bad from work or look annoyed from a bad day. I went in about 30 mins before they closed and both my food items (beef broccoli and sweet sour pork) was COLD when I sat in my car to eat it 5 mins later. The beef in the broccoli n beef had a fishy taste to it also. They sold me cold food and still had the audacity to charge full price. Food is not hot, both chicken and pork over cooked and so dry it's inedible. Makes me think it's recycled meat from the day before. Bbq pork fried rice had one piece of egg, very little meat. Every week we try to support local as much as we can and First Wok is definitely a staple for us. We usually get three to four things- soup, noodles, fish or chicken and vegetables with beef. Their food doesn't disappoint and they do fast contactless delivery. As we order takeout more and more we're also trying to be more eco friendly and we ask them not to give us plastic cutlery and individual soy sauce packets (we just use our own at home). Hopefully, you can also do the same Hopefully, the next steps for restaurants is to find another alternative to single use plastic containers. At first look, it looks like a regular Chinese restaurant that can either be dine in, family style or if you just want something for to go, you can choose different sides Togo just like Panda Express. The food looks exactly like Panda Express too, but the taste is pretty decent. I would definitely recommend choosing the coconut shrimp, the string beans with chicken, the mango chicken, and the broccoli beef. It not really steaming hot but it is warm enough. I would definitely go back if I wanted something Chinese and fast. It's in a Safeway plaza, so there are lots of parking. Give this place a chance and you won't be sorry. read more

They don't charge for delivery with all of the extra fees because the business has their own employees drive the food to customers. Dishes we've ordered: 1) chicken fried rice, 2) broccoli chicken, 3) sweet and sour chicken, 4) sweet and sour pork, 5) mixed vegetable with tofu, 6) wonton soup, 7) potstickers, 8) egg rolls. Since we live relatively close, they typically delivered well within the 50-60 min time estimate. Normally when I come here, a woman (I forgot her name! I think it might've been Amy?) helps me and I always tip because of her excellent customer service. I came tonight at around 8pm and a man was sitting behind the counter MASKLESS. The moment he saw me, he quickly put his mask on. I had 2 orders and I only wanted to point out 2 things: 1. Orange chicken was one of my items for my 1st order. There were barely any left to begin with but after scooping (I didn't see how much he scooped or put in container), there was only about 3-4 pieces left which is less than a normal scoop for another order. The half ass scoop wasn't necessary when only 3-4 pieces were left.. which I ended up taking for my part of the order. Thank you for accommodating to let me add half of a different item because there wasn't enough orange chicken. 2. Complimentary soups that comes with the order wasn't even filled. Literally only did 1 half ass scoop and didn't even bother asking if I wanted green onions. Super disappointed at the service tonight. Sir, please stay in the kitchen and not work the front. My family and I have been coming here for years. It one of the last express line Chinese food places in the area with great food. I've even ordered large party platter a few times and everyone always loves the food. My favorite items a are their bbq pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, salt and pepper fish and their orange chicken. However you can't go wrong with their broccoli beef, Mongolian beef, string beans chicken and their 5 flavor chicken. For about. $10-11 for a four item plate and free soup, it's a steal with how much they fill your plate and definitely two meals worth of food. Ordering fresh specialty items are also very good and fresh! I like to come here in the early evening (4pm) when the food is freshly made and have a larger selection before the dinner rush. read more
