Honestly if I could just have the sauce plus the fried rice, I'd be in heaven. The beef on my last visit was quite tough, so I do hope that was just an off day. I always forget to ask if they could do the fried rice without peas, since that's my only gripe with it. Pork & Skewered Prawn Teriyaki $18.95 + Substitute Fried Rice $3.99: I don't eat prawn but I tried the pork, and it was very tender. Especially compared to the beef I had this visit. The teriyaki sauce was tasty too. I think we asked once if we could build our own combo, but the answer was we had to stick to the pre-set combos on the menu. It's hard for me to stray from my Szechwan beef and it's not part of any combo. I do think in the past we've tried General Tso's chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki. Tried the Friday daily special - chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu served with rice and wasn't impressed. The chicken teriyaki was drenched in teriyaki sauce and was too salty and the chicken katsu tasted dry. I have had some good meals from New Teriyaki & Wok over the years, and I decided to try them again. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and Mongolian Beef Combo and also an order of Pork Fried Rice. Ok, this is technically the closest teriyaki place to my home, but I honestly think it is also the best in West Seattle! I've gotten takeout here many times and we used to dine in during the "before times". For ordering, I usually stick to the classic, Chicken Teriyaki. You get grilled chicken teriyaki, two scoops of white rice, and an Asian salad. I have also tried the Chicken Yakisoba, which is also good, but you don't get a salad. They have a very large menu, so there is something for everyone. Besides teriyaki and yakisoba, there is also fried rice, bento, tempura, soup, egg rolls, gyoza, etc. I really like this place because the staff is friendly, you get the food quickly, and the portions are generous. And our dinner did not work out at home today with all the extra heat we didn't feel like cooking so I decided to go here because we have been here a few years ago I think and enjoyed it. But I did not enjoy it today it was very sugary. I ordered the chicken breast teriyaki and I asked for no rice and extra cabbage when I got it I had extra teriyaki sauce and extra salad dressing for the cabbage and they were all so sugary that when I opened the to-go container that it was filled and covering the chicken and the cabbage with liquid. After a few bites I actually had to take the chicken out and run it underwater to get most of it off and got a bit of a stomach ache from eating so much sugar. Tacoma teriyaki shops are sparse, low quality, and not appealing. It was this stark contrast that made me realize how good Seattle has it in terms of good teriyaki. What do I mean by this? Well... when I think of teriyaki places I rank them into tiers. My least favorite teriyaki shop in Seattle is in a higher tier than almost every single teriyaki restaurant that I have been to outside of Seattle. Now, with that context out of the way. I am a huge fan of New Teriyaki and Wok. I really only get one thing here (hence the 4 star rating), but I have had many things that are quite good! I appreciate the family feel, great service, flavor of their dishes, and how large the portions are! My favorite/go-to item is the house chow mein. It's amazing! The noodles are always perfect, the cuts of the protein in the dish are perfectly sized, it is a huge dish, and I'm never dissatisfied after ordering.
