A friend and I stopped by "the rice bowl" to eat. Its called new Thai Cuisine now. It known for the best pho in Merced I hear. There's plenty of parking. Glad to see this old landmark building is still around, I've been eating there since I was a kid. Upon entering the pace wasn't too busy but must have been recovering from a large rush. Tables were still covered in dishes no biggie. The waitress told us it would be 5-10min before we could be seated while they cleared tables. as we were waiting we could see into the kitchen there was 3 middle aged women busily cooking and getting dishes out the window. I love seeing who's cooking my food and they looked busy but happy doing what appeared to be from the heart. We were sat and got drinks and ordered. We ordered chicken wings, Tom kha gai, pad phak gai. The food didn't take long and was served all looked and smelled great. The star of the dish was the chicken wings. They appeared a little too crispy and covered in sauce but were very moist and good. The sauce wasn't too hot it was good. The pad phak was good, good amount of mixed veggies and chicken. The Tom kha I'm my opinion was ehhh it was ok but I wouldn't order it again. My friend really enjoyed the meal and I'd stop back by and try the pho next time. read more

I'm not sure what happened to this place. The service staff is still very friendly, however, the food was not that great. We ordered the pad ma kuer chicken, spring rolls, and pad Thai. The spring rolls were sticking to each other and falling apart, the eggplant dish had mushrooms in it, and zero flavor, the pad Thai was cold, and stuck together also lacking flavor. They never answer the phone! This is the third time I try to give them a shot and they never answer! Why do you have a business line if you are not going to answer it, makes no sense. This place has been here for 2 years and today was my first time... Don't ask why. I always pass by it, look at it, but never went in. Boy, I'm sure glad I did today! So of course we ordered: Thai iced tea: very refreshing 5/5 Chicken pad Thai: so much flavor, that you can see the left over sauce on your place when your done lol 4/5 Red curry, chicken: very good as well. We ate it towards the very end of our meal (we were totally into the pad Thai) that the veggies made it a little watery. Still a 4/5. I am so happy I found a good Thai food place in Merced! (although--this is the first I've tried). I went here with my office for lunch--we were seated at the only large group table in a corner of the restaurant. This is good because the seating area is rather limited. Service was quick and courteous--and our waiter took extra time with my colleagues unfamiliar with Thai cuisine to help them select a dish that they ultimately enjoyed. I ordered my favorite dish, Pad Khee Mao, and it was quite delicious-a perfect balance of veggies, meat, noodles, and spice. And--unlike even the most deliciously seasoned dishes that I've tried have overcooked noodles. That wasn't the case here. I usually don't have the time to sit and eat at a restaurant during my lunch hour, but was happy to see that more customers use this location as a take-out site, rather than a dine in venue. Let me break down my stars really quick: Food= 5 Stars Service= 3 Stars The food was so good!!! I loved the eggplant dish i got was fantastic. I have no complaints about the food what so ever :) Now to talk about the service. The gentleman was vary nice, and friendly, my friend and i were having a hard time deciding, and i was a little disappointed that he did not recommend anything (This being my first time eating Thai food) And my number 1 pet peeve about a restaurant is you should not have to ask for your water to get refilled. ( I mean its just water) And we had to ask every single time for our waters to be filled. And lastly, some of his friends were dining there (Teenagers in high school) And they were talking about things that were inappropriate for a restaurant and kids that are under the drinking age (Party's, and drinking among other things). I had Penang curry. It was a bit spicy but had very good flavor. It was very addictive. I sweated quite a bit but was sooo good!!!

Basic dining room. Really good service. Gets busy at dinner time, so you know it's good. Quite a collection of mostly Asian food. They have Vietnamese fresh spring rolls (called spring rolls here). Thai spring rolls are called egg rolls and a number of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Huge portions. One order of spring rolls had 4 large rolls cut in half(really more like 8 rolls). Ordered the mango sticky rice and it was good and fresh, but rice was super dense. I also had the Pad Thai, medium spice (level 5) was just right. Outside definitely needs some upkeep, which doesn't matter too much as long as the food is good. We ordered the spring rolls, shrimp in a blanket and shrimp pad see ew. Hands down the worst spring rolls. 2 shrimp per roll, stuffed with shredded iceberg lettuce and unseasoned boiled chicken pieces. That's it! No carrots, no cucumber, no bean sprouts, no rice noodles and definitely no love! The dipping sauce on the other hand was very flavorful! Shrimp in a blanket was ok. After seeing all of the good reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We had a party of six on Saturday night, but only had a brief wait (it was around 8pm). While we were waiting, there was a steady stream of take out orders. Everyone said that this was the best. I can't speak for the rest of our party, though they really seemed to enjoy their food, but my pad kee mao was amazing. I ordered it extra spicy and they just about got it. Yummy garlicky goodness. My only complaint was that I had asked for it with no tomato and it had tomato. The server noticed, and offered to take it back, but I said I would pick around them. The portion was large enough for me to have dinner, a snack, and breakfast the next day. We will probably try it again when we are in town. read more

Finally we got table because one couple went in and seems they eat here often. ( should thanks to them) Second we had our first appetizer after ordered for 20mins. Ridiculous!!! Just Satay chicken! For the food, we ordered Appetizer- Satay chicken, Soup- tom yum shrimp, Entree- Green curry and Pad thai. Their soup not enough herbs and spice. Cant say thats authentic Tom yum.
