Very honest and very fair. I've been taking my cars here since early 2005. when I moved back to town. They won me over when they took the time to diagnose that little "rattle" in my muffler as simply a loose baffle and recommended to do nothing (bear in mind folks -- the Midas brand "sells" mufflers). Saved me $300 and didn't charge me to look at it. Since then, I've taken my cars in from everything to oil changes to timing belts, water pumps, and a very interesting timing sensor short. They've always come through and the bill isn't shocking. Not just mufflers -- a wide range of capabilities. Update 06/10/09: They now have a car wash! read more

I went in here a few days ago and while I was waiting in the waiting area, a customer came in who did not speak English as his first language. The man was trying to communicate and doing fine--he just required a tiny bit more effort from the owner. Instead of being helpful or kind to this customer and making an effort to make this man feel welcome, the owner barked at him and just yelled the same thing louder when he didn't understand. He made no effort to make this man feel comfortable and was extremely rude to him. When the man left, the owner made comments about how the man should learn to speak English. He treated a PAYING customer like this. The man was so kind, trying so hard, and was clearly upset. He was just trying to get some service on his car like everyone else at the shop. This community needs to do better. Please don't support this racist owner. read more

It's difficult to be sure when you suspect a repair shop is taking advantage of your automotive illiteracy by searching for things to repair or replace and possibly overcharging. But New Town Automotive proved to me that you CAN be sure of the opposite -- when they're treating customers with honesty and fairness. I have taken our two cars to New Town Automotive several times for various diagnostics and repairs. I always ended up paying less than I expected. Jerry, the owner, has been at the desk every time I have come in and he is always very friendly and helpful. He now remembers me when I come in and has not charged me several times for things that he should have. The negative review here is surprising. Jerry is a funny guy and likes to joke with his customers so maybe he was kidding with the reviewer. I imagine there was more to the conversation than what was posted. read more

I had an excellent experience here after a bad experience elsewhere (see my review for Holiday Chevrolet). I took my car in for the required state inspection at about 12:30 on a Friday. I was out of there in less than an hour. The staff was friendly and the guy at the desk was pretty funny. I actually chuckled several times at his witty banter with people who called the business. I have had my vehicle detailed on a number of occasions but the result at this location was by far the worst. First off they said it would take about 4 hours if I dropped it off first thing in the morning, which I did. 9 hours later I still hadn't heard from them so I called. Yes, it was done. When I went to pick up the car, I mentioned a stain on the driver's seat had not been removed. I was told they are very careful when dealing with leather seats. I said I'd removed that same stain (caused by sunscreen on my legs) every summer. I was given a 10% discount on the total charge of $200. I was then told they were unable to remove a stain on the carpet near the front passenger seat. When I returned home I used a standard leather cleaner to remove the seat stain in about 5 minutes. No damage to the seat - I've used that cleaner many times. Using Woolite carpet cleaner with a brush I cleaned the stain on the carpet, again in about 5 minutes. A few days later I lifted the second row seats and discovered the carpet under them had not been cleaned nor had the various recessed areas of the vehicle such as cup holders, seat latches, etc. In other words, it looked like the vehicle had gone through a standard car wash where they clean the outside and vacuum (most) of the inside. Will NOT be taking my car there again. read more

Went here for my inspection. They asked me if I was Catholic?? I told them that um, no, I'm not, and got an "oh" and a look like I'm destined to the pits of hell. I don't know why I didn't run away then and there. I was told it'd be at least a couple hours, so I left to do some shopping down the road. When I came back I was told they have to fail it because of a very small bend on one of my rims. They gave me a whole spew about a sheriff that just happened to stop by took a look at it and confirmed that it couldn't pass. Uh huh. Oh, and it would cost $730 to have replaced. I bid them a nice day and had my rim replaced at the dealership for about $300. Disclaimer: This took place 4 years ago, I realize I'm a little late. But from looking at other reviews, I don't think much has changed. read more

RUDE!!! I was here earlier this morning for a state inspection. "Are you leaving your car here? It'll be about three hours." Doesn't asking me if I'm leaving my car here imply that I have the option not to? Apparently not... "Oh, can I just bring it back in a couple of hours?" "IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED." "Oh okay, you don't do appointments?" I thought they did, because a reviewer below--who also encountered not-so-stellar customer service--said they were offered an inspection at 7:30 and 3. [Laughs patronizingly] "IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!!" Ummm, okay. Chill out. I told him I didn't have a way to get home and that I couldn't stay here for three hours, and he basically tried to stop me from leaving. "It's going to be a long wait anywhere you go today..." "Oh, okay. Well, I'm sorry, I can't stay for three hours. Thanks!" I repeated. "Okay, your loss. I can't help it, people love me." Um, judging by your Yelp reviews... they don't. (I ended up going to AAA, and being back home less than an hour after leaving New Town Automotive, so no, it's not going to be a long wait anywhere today. Went in for an inspection and they accurately diagnosed I needed one new tire, when they could have taken advantage of me and replaced all four to make some extra money. In addition, they through in a free alignment because they took pity on my car. Highly recommend! read more

I went to New Town Automotive today to see if they could do my state inspection. Here's how my conversation with the owner went: "Hi! Do you all have time to do a state inspection?" "7:30 and 3." "Sorry?" "7:30 and 3." "Oh, OK. Those are the times to come. And how long does it usually take?" "An hour. Why, how long do you want it to take?" I understand that you don't make much on state inspections and that you are required by the state to do them, but way to drive away a first time customer. You are so rude! I can't believe my sister actually referred me to you. You definitely need someone else to handle customer service for you. read more

These guys are OUTSTANDING! I took my Subaru to a different state inspection center that failed it for an "exhaust" leak, which wasn't true. I then took it to New Town Automotive for a second opinion (before paying to "fix" it) where it was given a thorough inspection and a clean bill of health. Not as good as other car washes in town and more expensive. The auto wash almost ripped my mirrors off. Luckily no damage but it cranked them back to the point that I had to open the windows while in the wash and pull them back as I was afraid the next set of spinning brushes would for sure break them. Go to another place if you want a good car wash. read more

I went because reviews were so good. I left feeling rather insulted and truly wondered who this glorious customer service was aimed toward. I clearly was not wanted in that repair shop. Man at front counter truly could not care less that my wife and I were standing at his counter. In mid explanation of my vehicle defect he begins a conversation with another man that had been standing around. Not so much as an excuse me or anything...just rude. Honest, fair and friendly!!! After being told in needed new brakes by Goodyear (cost was higher then expected) took it here and was told my brakes are good for another 40,000 miles. And honest shop!! Also detailed my car and they had a problem getting stains out and wouldn't let me pay for the job! Highly recommend this place!!!! read more

I'm rating this establishment 2 for service because they did a good job with my car. However, the treatment of the employees that I witnessed while I was waiting for my car was horrible and nearly brought me to tears. For that, 0 as a rating and I will never be returning. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect no matter how well they can speak English. No employee should have to be shouted at in front of customers or told to "learn English!" because "you're in America now!". Yes, we are in America, and you absolutely do not speak to people that way. WARNING: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! I had to drop off my car to have it inspected. My regular place could not get to it on the day I needed. BIG MISTAKE on my part. This place came up with the most ridiculous "problems" for my car. (Example: wrong shade of bulb in turn signal) Seriously shady! When I spoke to my regular car guy about the things on the list he couldn't believe what they had said. I of course picked up my car without having them complete the hundreds of dollars of work. Went in to get my car inspected in the middle of the month without an appointment. There were only three people ahead of me but it still took over two hours. That's not my main problem, I didn't make an appointment so whatever. My main problem was the rude way in which the employees were making fun of an elderly gentleman behind his back. The man, who obviously doesn't get around that much, asked for advice on exactly how often he should drive his car to keep it in good working order. Not that ridiculous of a question. After he left, though, the two men working at the counter starting making fun of him. They didn't even bother to lower their voices. Very rude. read more

Overpriced and will rip you off. Don't go for your inspection especially. If they perceived you as a student, woman or just someone who doesn't know about cars they will fail you on anything and then over charge to do the repairs. They estimated over $1000 repairs and I went elsewhere for under $500. read more
