I think Kogii means "meat." So Kogii Kogii means meat meat. How about meet meat? Yes Yes. We loved it. We loved it. I know not what All You Can Eat (AYCE) that is referenced in these reviews. Our group picked a Combo that served 2-3 people. The price/description is different than what you see on the website or Yelp menu. Our Combo was $100 and included miso or seaweed soup, rice, banchan and four kinds of meat: marinated bulgogi, short rib, ribeye and brisket. Delicious Delicious. The banchan was tasty tasty. I especially liked the pickled cucumber and the kimchi. Some of the reviews said they were charged extra for refills on the banchan dishes. We were not. What a feast. The server loaded up our grill with brisket and would leave and come back to flip things or turn things although we were pretty capable of doing it ourselves. They very nicely cut our ribeye into bite-sized pieces with the kitchen shears and also snipped up the short rib. The meat was delicious and the banchan and rice soon filled us up. We used the green leafy lettuce to make ssambap. I also liked the sauce with the sesame oil and salt. The bulgogi was last and we had to dig deep to finish it. What I liked was that nothing stuck to the grill and nothing burned either. I've had kbbq before at other places where it was too hot and the meat was burned. Everything was cooked perfectly. There was another table where flames shot up from the grill but the staff quickly went over to help. The staff was friendly and efficient. The banchan was plentiful and tasty. The portions of meat were pretty generous and good quality. Although pricy, I feel we got a lot of food and the meat was excellent because we cooked it ourselves :). So good so good. Very nicely maintained space - clean, comfortable, nicely decorated. When I showed up, early in the dinner time cycle, there were only a few others there. By time I left (Saturday afternoon-evening), the place was packed, by a high percentage of Koreans, which seems like a good sign. Tables are equipped with the cooking tops for table-BBQ, but I went with my usual, a rice bowl with beef and vegetables (Bibimbop). When you first walk in you are greeted by a nice, friendly lady. The prices are affordable which is a plus. It is too busy which is good. You can get a table right away. I went here after having a day at Six Flags. I was craving a perfectly grilled galbi with some cold noodles to alleviate the hot day at Six Flags. My friend and I got the Acye and it was standard. There's not many options of meat to choose from and WHERES THE GALBI??? it was excluded from acye. We ate a lot of brisket as everyone does, but it didn't hit my kbbq craving. In an unprecedented time with COVID-19 with the uncertainty of businesses being able to stay open and restaurants closing for indoor dining, then outdoor only, then back to indoor, etc etc (I can't keep up), we are fortunate we came to this place. Having just moved to Chicago, the goal was to find an AYCE KBBQ place and boy was this place a blessing. Although way outside the city where I live, I would definitely drive out to Deerfield because of the price, food, and the nice service. The older lady who served me didn't speak that much English, but we understood her enough and she was nice. For $22.99 you got the choices of 6 different meat options, kimchi, potato salad, regular lettuce salad, miso soup, rice, and a few other side small dishes. The only thing I do wish they had rice paper and chili paste which is what I really need to have a full 100% kbbq experience so I may have to bring my own next time, LOL. This is one of the only Korean restaurants in the area, so opted for takeout to satisfy our craving. We tried a variety of items - japchae, Korean pancake, bulgogi, galbi, and a few of their soups. Overall the food was lacking flavor, spice, and was a bit pricy. This was the first time visiting here since the pandemic, and we felt quality has gone downhill. What's not to love about a $19.99 AYCE Korean BBQ meal. The options for meat are kalbi, rib eye steak, bulgogi, Cha dol bugi, pork belly and marinated chicken. Our favorites was the #4 the boneless kalbi. I've been here a handful of times to eat AYCE Korean BBQ and I must say this most recent experience was the best thus far. The service was top notch! They were attentive and generous with the ban chan- the side dishes kept coming everytime we asked for it. In the past we've been turned down for some of the items, namely the fish cake saying they ran out after 1 round. The ban chan was also quite good this time, from the fish cakes to the spicy radishes, we couldn't get enough of these. Chadol baegi was delicious however galbi left something to be desired. $20 AYCE deal is fabulous. Got seconds of chadol baegi and was great to the taste buds. Sam kyup Sal was very thick so it took a long time to cook. Next time, I would try bulgogi instead of galbi. Galbi was not good, as if the meat was old. Sam kyup Sal was greasy and fatty. This is not your typical AYCE Korean bbq spot. First off, the staff is rather insistent on cooking the meats for you. Second, they're selective on the quality of service based on your ethnicity. From what I've been told, there's not a lot of Korean All You Can Eat (AYCE) BBQ places out there. So when I'm craving me some protein, I was excited about hearing of such place that offered AYCE. This place is located in a quiet strip mall and can easily be overlooked. Inside, one side of the restaurant tables had exhaust fans, the other side did not. I suppose for those not interested in Korean BBQ, got seated there, as initially I was seated there, waiting for my friend. Once he arrived and we told the staff that we wanted Korean BBQ, they moved us to the side where the exhaust fans were. Thankfully so, as I didn't want to come out of there smelling like bulgogi, even though that stuff is delicious. We got the $20/adult AYCE and offered: dak golbi -- chicken chadol baegi -- brisket (advertised but not offered) la galbi -- beef short ribs sam kyup sal -- pork belly Only rules is you eat what you ordered, and there's a 2-hour eating limit. Out of all the food, I liked the dak bolbi the best -- it was marinated well and was super tasty. I was disappointed that they didn't have the chaol baegi, but oh well. Overall, great value for a lot of food. Service was expected from an asian restaurant. If you don't know what I'm talking about, lets just say asian restaurants, especially those served by 1st gen peeps, aren't known for 5-star restaurant-esque service. This is the first time that my wife and I have had Korean barbecue. We both had the all you can eat special for $33 each. We had a choice of five different meats and then they brought out all the sides and a bowl erase each. The owner even treated us to some miso soup. The meats were cooked tableside. We both enjoyed the BBQ Marinated Beef. We also had the steamed dumplings as an appetizer. I will definitely come back. We talked with the owner, and he advised that the restaurant is seven years old. We were advised that during the week they are not busy. Weekends Friday Saturday Sunday are very busy and long wait times and reservations are requested. A good place to try and southern Lake County. read more

I'm a big-time carnivore, so an unplanned AYCE dinner involving kbbq was a great way to spend a Saturday night. We walked into the main dining room and were immediately ushered into a side room that had a couple of tables with gas-powered grills. We had 3 different ladies serve/help us and there were a few times when they couldn't really understand what we were saying, but it somehow worked out in the end. They were nice and accommodating. They've changed some of the meats they serve for AYCE since they 1st opened, so just be warned if you are looking at some of their photos on here. For example, they used to serve galbi (beef short ribs) and also their sam kyup sal (pork belly) seems to be thicker before. If you want to know what I'm talking about, look at photos from 2015-2017! We got meats 1-4. Some of them come unseasoned/not marinated, so make sure you read the description so you know what to expect. I asked for some soy sauce because the ones they gave us didn't satisfy me. Also, had I known about the spicy sauce, I definitely would've asked for it. I enjoyed the bulkogi and ju mul luk the most, probably because they already came seasoned. Go figure. All of the banchan were tasty. Overall a good experience. read more

AYCE Korean. It's been a while my friend since I've had some AYCE BBQ. The places that I usually frequented were always poor on service and their pricing continued to climb. The spot where Kogii Kogii actually held significant meaning to me as it's where I met my wife for the first time. So I've had my eyes on this place since they opened in place of the previous establishment. My friends have been there several times and they love Korean BBQ. They raved about the value and the quality so I was excited. Had a great chance to try it and I was not disappointed. For first timers they just bring out a sampler for the table. Rice and soup accompaniment with each full priced AYCE. My 3 year old was free, but I think 4 year olds + pay something like $5-6 per. Note the soup was quite spicy and I like the heat. Rice is limited to one bowl - but do you really care for another bowl of rice when you have unlimited meat? I called ahead to reserve a table for our 9, and the table was preset when we got there. Awesome when kids are hungry - we just sat down...then the meat started coming out. The sizzling began and appetites were slayed. The Ban Chan side dishes were plentiful (so plentiful that if we used both burners for our BBQ, we would have to balance the dishes on top of each other). There are specific rules for eating the AYCE, it's posted on their sign - I think 2 hrs limit...but that must be for the extreme eaters out there. We were stuffed and satisfied. The inside of the restaurant was dark and very gloomy and the floor was very greasy and very slippery... For our dinner here Instead of all you can eat, we had the $62 value Course, but the quality of the meat was tooo bad.. And be careful as the meat course menu also includes a % 20 tip. (The menu didn't say tip included.) I think woman who didn't wear black was the owner, but she was the most unfriendly and unkind, rude. Like a lot of the other reviewers have said here, there's some good things and some bad things about this restaurant. The good is that the prices are reasonable when you consider that the quality of ingredients here are a bit better than you'll find at most other Korean restaurants. There's even a $20 all you can eat winter special, which is much cheaper than what you'd expect from any Korean BBQ or Chinese Hot Pot deal. The food overall is fairly good, nothing really disappointing -- but nothing particularly stands out either. I'm not sure of how healthy the food is since some of it does taste like it's full of unhealthy sauces and fried items do seem to be cooked in a lot more oil than is necessary. But on the other hand, this does seem to result in some pretty tasty food. Here are some notes from dishes I tried: Banchan: A pretty standard assortment, which overall is a bit lighter in flavor and contains fresher vegetables than many other Korean restaurants. No particular items stood out as special, but it was a great way to start the meal. We were also provided with an additional full set of dishes after we finished the first ones, at no additional charge. Bulkogii dolsot bibimbap: Beef was very tender and the sauce had a nice mix of soy sauce and sugar. Pepper was barely perceivable and there was probably a little garlic and a little bit of sesame oil. Tasty, but maybe not quite as balanced in flavors as I was hoping. The rice was prepared very well with a fluffy texture and mixed with a touch of butter. The accompanying vegetables were also nice and crispy. Haemul panjun: This "pancake" was aromatic with a nice flavor of seared egg and onion. The outside was very crisp, but seemed to be very oily overall. The flavor also seemed to really come from the searing and was a bit bland otherwise. Daegu jiri: Very strong amount of pepper in the broth and slightly spicy. The taste of cod was clear in the broth but it still had a fairly simple, mellow flavor. There were generously sized chunks of cod in the soup (with bone) but the fish itself wasn't really marinated or pan fried with flavorings like garlic, ginger, sesame oil, etc. so it was overall really bland and completely dependent on the broth for flavor. Oh sam chul pan: A bit spicy but not overly so. The pork was very tender as was the squid. The cabbage inside was also very sweet and matched the meat perfectly. Overall, there's not much to complain about the food. Nothing was done poorly and the flavor combinations were satisfactory to everyone's tastes. I complain slightly that the ingredients are fairly good, but not enough is really done technique-wise to make full use of them. Then again, with these prices -- they do outperform expectations. The main reason for the point deductions has to do entirely with the service. With the oh sam chul pan, the dish was set to cook by the waitress, without any indication of when the food was considered cooked (some members of the party tried to eat it when it was too raw, and later on it became overcooked -- but we were never given an indication of when to lower or stop the heat). In fact, outside of being brought the food -- there was the absolute bare minimum service and they even forgot a dish. There was no opportunity to ask for an extra bowl as the waitress rarely stopped by, even after she did -- there were no water refills though the cups had been empty for a while. Then it took a while to pay afterwards. I'll probably be back because the prices are good and there are a good assortment of dishes offered. But, this could easily be a 5-star Yelp review if the service matched the quality of the food. read more

AYCE KBBQ has always been good, and now service is much faster and better than before. We always get 2, 5, 6 to start with, and end with 1, 4, 3. I love the pork belly with sesame oil and rock salt, bulgogi with bean paste (red sauce) or sesame oil, and the chicken is really good just by itself without any dip. Their banchan (side dishes) could be better but I love that they give seaweed. This place is just like Korea, where the wait staff actually help you cook and cut it up for you! read more

We found somehow a controversial view for the "all you can eat" barbecue here so we decided to try. The restaurant is a family restaurant, small but cozy. The AYCE is now $22.99 per person, excluding $2 for lettuce and $2 for the dishes. Moreover 18% gratitude is complimentary to be collected. I would say it is still a little bit pricey especially you are someone who couldn't eat a lot haha. There were six choices of meat that you could choose. We would recommend the short rib and seasoned sliced beef! Very juicy, fresh and delicious. If you like brisket you could also try (but we didn't since we are not a fan) The small plates tasted really good, and if you like spicy food, you should ask for the spicy sauce besides the two sauces they automatically provide you (but they are also great).
