I went to New York Style Optometry at the recommendation from a friend. I was not disappointed. Dr. Chae is great! She was very friendly and helpful when she was doing my exam. It was nice to know my prescription hadn't changed much over the years. When it came time to select eye wear, Helena gave me a lot of different options. Glasses and contacts, two pairs of glasses, glasses and sunglasses, etc. She was very honest and up front about what looked good on me. She was also nice enough to clean up and tighten my old glasses. That was greatly appreciated! I highly recommend New York Style Optometry. I look forward to my exam next year! read more

Awesome optometry and reliable service. I'm always happy with the selection of glasses and sunglasses that they have as well. Our family is Orange County based but we will make the drive up to Van Nuys for this place because it's so worth it. My hubby and I have bad eyes and constantly need to get our eyes checked, and purchasing glasses plus eye exams really rack up in price. It's really hard to find an optometrist who is thorough with the eye exams, that actually care about you and more than just making a profit. I've worked in healthcare and customer service offices before and it is hard to find a balance between looking out for what's best for the patient as well as well as tending to the requirements of running a business, but Michelle and Dr. Chae have it down! They have always been so sincere and generous in my experience with them. And it can get busy so it's not surprising if a few people feel snubbed. But I don't need to be treated like royalty. If they can give me honest service and a good deal in this economy, I'm all for it! read more

RUDE RUDE DOCTOR! Again, RUDE RUDE DOCTOR! Third time if I wasn't clear: RUDE RUDE DOCTOR! Staff doing damage control for the RUDE doctor who obviously showed the worst behavior, manner in the world (and I work as a RN in a hospital, and have dealt with doctors every day of my working life). We came as a group of five, I have my two well-behaved kids with me, my mom and sis. We didn't have appointment because I called days before and we were told we can just walk in. Minutes into walking in, the RUDE doctor told her staff loud enough for us to hear: if we are not buying, she does not want us there! The nerve! We didn't look like we have money to spend? Sizing us up because why? I didn't bring my Hermes bag nor wore my Louboutin shoes? Does she want me waving my Mercedes Benz car keys before she gives me a welcoming attitude? Does she want me to bring proof of ownership of our restaurant so she can see we have means to afford her overpriced goods? I promised my mom a gift and inasmuch as I want to leave, my mom found a pair she loves. Marlon was so attentive that we still bought a $600 Tiffany pair. We pick up in a week and a half and this review would obviously have been read. If they retaliate because of this review, I am going to update and look into better options of correcting this maltreatment. This doctor deserves a negative review! She is CRUEL! read more

Went here based on positive Yelp reviews and we weren't disappointed. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. We even went in wearing our saturday lazy clothes and nobody treated us poorly. I was able to get an eye exam and my husband was able to get new glasses, even had them trying to help him find the exact style he wanted, even though it wasn't immediately in-stock. I never felt like I was being sold something I didn't want or hurried in any way. It's hard to price since if you have insurance, you'll pay different than the retail sticker, etc...with my insurance, everything from services to glasses were comparable to other places. I would absolutely recommend this location for your eye care and they now have two new customers that will be back. read more

Took my wife to NYSO to buy her a new pair of Chanel sunglasses. They did not have the style my wife wanted but knew exactly the one she wanted, the wife took a picture of the sunglasses from a magazine and showed it to Abigail (employee). NYSO ordered the sunglasses and called me when they received it. My wife is so happy with the sunglasses. Happy wife, happy husband lol. I came in today because it's been 2 years since my last exam. I was a bit nervous because even though I have had glasses since I was 19. I never found a good optometrist that I can say, I trusted and felt comfortable with, who didn't make me feel they only doing it because I have insurance. One of the few reason I was drawn to this place: 1) my insurance is accepted here 2)the yelp reviews 3) the main thing is the selection on eyewear. Wow they have so many selections it was hard to decide at first. They have designer frames and many other and affordable frames. I love it. The staff omg they are amazing, even when you walk through the door. They greet you and acknowledge you. The optometrist herself is also very sweet and kind. I finally found an optometrist that treated me well and made me feel very comfortable. I got two frames, Prada to be exact and honestly the previous optometrist I had, even with insurance for similar Pradas, I feel now over charged me. After being here and buying two frames with prescription here cost me less compare to the 1 frame I got 2 years ago. In all honestly I found a new optometrist and I couldn't be happier. read more

My sister got her glasses here couple years ago and I thought I would give it a try. I just walked in on Thursday morning and told them I need eye checkup + new pair of glasses. Doctor asked me what kind of design I wanted, gave me few glasses to choose, and gave me my alone time to try all the glasses I want (I hate it when they follow me around and watch me put them on and etc). I was in and out from this place in 30 minutes (40 mins tops). Friendly staffs and knowledgeable doctor (Dr.Chae) who gives you explanations throughout the whole exam (I'm pre-med and she KNOWS what she's doing). Anyways I got my glasses and I am very satisfied. The people that work here are pretty nice and do actually give you what's offered for the check in deal, but have to pay for the frames. The deal is really good for those who have kids that need glasses for a back up pair or if you want something in addition to contacts. My husband and I both needed exams and glasses, and we've been here before. We experienced excellent customer service at our first exam/glasses appointment a little over a year ago. So we went back, hoping for the same experience this year. They did not dissapoint (YAYYY!!)! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Chae, Andrew and the two female assistants (forgot their names, eeek!). We called at the end of the week and we were able to be seen on today (Saturday). There was no waiting period before we were seen by the Dr. who was very informative, personable and took her time with each of us. We can't thank her enough for her expert knowledge & recomendations for eye care. You can tell Dr. Chae enjoys her job! Andrew & the assistants were more than helpful to us while we chose glasses. We couldn't have had a better experience. Their honest opionion and willingness to take their time with us and show us as many pairs as we wanted to try on is very much appreciated. The best Optometrist and staff in town! I called on a Thursday and had a appointment by Friday. From the point you walk-in, to the time you leave. By far my best experience. Office is very neat and clean. The doctor is very professional and informative. On to the good stuff the reason why you go to them is to get a frame. Boy did they make it so difficult for me to pick a frame with such beautiful frames to choice from. That's a complement! I went in for an appointment on Monday and got my glasses by Friday. Dr. Chae is thorough, doesn't overcharge for the retinal scan ($25 less than everywhere else I have been) and the staff is very friendly. I had progressives done and love them. She hit the mark. Marlon who does the glasses and prescription fulfillment is really helpful, friendly, not pushy and has a good eye for what looks good. They also don't try to upsell the add-ons which is nice too. I was offended and discriminated on by Dr. Chae. I have never felt so uncomfortable and "ashamed" in my life before for being gay. I was accompanied by my partner. While she was doing my eye exam she asked me "who's that guys that's with you?" I replied "that's my boyfriend". She then continued by laughing in my face and telling me "two men?! No! That's not right". I sat there frozen, speechless, and uncomfortable. She didn't even finish the eye exam. She were suppose to dilate my eyes and she did absolutely nothing to them. She then walked me out and only seemed to care about selling glasses. I will never go back and will never recommend this place to anybody. If I can rate this a 0 star I would! My boyfriend has been going here for years. One day I went to an appointment with him and I was so impressed that I asked to have my eyes examined as well since it was time. Dr. Chae is very sweet and kind. I felt comfortable being examined by her. After our exams, we both searched their large selection of frames and the girls were so helpful in our process of selecting the right glasses for both of us. Fast forward...They even allowed me to purchase contacts over the phone for my boyfriend who's contact had ripped. Because they wouldn't arrive until Monday (it was a Friday) they were so accommodating and provided a temporary disposable supply to get through the weekend. I just had an eye exam and contact lens fitting. The doctor and all her staff were so friendly, welcoming, professional and caring. The office itself is very nice and well taken care of. The exam was the most thorough exam I've had and I was allowed to test my contacts before leaving. When I tried them one was a bit blurry so the Dr made an adjustment and helped me try again. I left with trial lens that feel great. Very happy. Highly recommend this place. read more

My sister and I walk into the store wanting to replace the nose pads that fell out of our sunglasses. No, we did not purchase the sunglasses from the store but we did get the nose pads installed for both. A customer was already there speaking with the main optometrist and I am guessing her name is Chae, and the Caucasian guy that adjusts glasses. I hear Chae telling the customer she is not going to be reliable for his glasses that he purchased for the damage that was caused to the nuts and bolts. Whatever, I'm waiting on the sofa waiting for a Korean receptionist to come acknowledge me. Couple minutes later the customer leaves, clearly dissatisfied. As soon as the customer leaves, she storms to the back of the room towards the reception desk and yells out "I need to be compensated for my time!" And "my time is too valuable!" Ooookay? Someone having a bad day? She tells the adjuster guy "you know I appreciate your input but my time is too valuable for this." Then the adjuster walks towards me and asks me for my glasses. Oh great.. Grumpy helping me.. I ask him to loosen the sides as well as replace the nose pads but he doesn't want to hear me. He feels the sides of the glasses and says "you don't need one. It's already tight" No duh. So I say "I'm not asking you to tighten them, I'm asking you to loosen it." He then takes the glasses and comes back in 1 minute. I try them on and I tell him "it feels exactly the same". He does his thing and comes back again and he says "that's the loosest I can make them." I'm beyond furious at this point so I tell him coldly "it's ok thanks". He had the nerves to say have a nice day!! No!! You have a nice day so you and your boss won't be so crabby to customers. Stop taking smack behind customers back while you will have potential customers present. I have never encountered such rude attitude before. I've welcomed spiders and roaches better than they have me! Never again. Do I recommend this place? Yeah if you're into rude service. read more

Went for a quick visit. During my wait I took the opportunity to look at the glasses. Asked for an opinion from the floor assistant. The Dr. came out asked me to take a seat. Before exiting and making my purchase there was a couple getting assistance. I happened to see the Dr pass and asked her if my Lens width be a good fit for the glasses I opted for. She rudely told me "she didn't understand my question and what I wanted and why was I asking her those questions. For me to ask the woman who is assisting me, that's what she's there for" . She was so rude and embarrassed me in front of the two customers. She Made me feel awful, when I was just asking for her opinion. I purchased my glasses with additional hidden charges. The way I was treated the owner was unacceptable. She had no care of how she behaves. Be careful when going there. No one should be shamed or talked down to and especially a patient. Does not matter. I'm all about customer service and would never in my life talked to someone in such a manner. In my opinion she could have just said yes that's a good fit for the lenses you are getting. Instead she treated me wrong. I'm not Asian but I am human and know what it is to treat someone. Especially when they are contributing to my business. Dr. you didn't have to talk to me that way especially when I've been with you for years regardless of any history notes. I have been more Than a nice person by continuing to go to you. I literally cried after the way you treated me. I forgive you but can't erase the experience you made me feel on my last visit. read more

Came in today for a regular check exam and found out I needed glasses! Not the outcome I was hoping for but it was comforting to be around such kind people. Especially when you don't know what the heck to do or what the process of buying prescription glasses for the first time is like. Doctor was very nice and informative. There was a gentleman who assisted me with the frame selection and there was also a sweet lady named Leandra who helped me find the perfect frames for me, explained everything and answered any questions I had. I have to say I chose those location over others due to the positive reviews so I am glad I myself can add to all the positive reviews. Note: during my eye exam, they offered either to dilate my eyes or to pay an extra fee for a different method called Optomap that offers a better look into the eye. (It takes a high quality photo that shows more than what the doc can see anyway with dilation) It's worth it to pay that extra fee as I didn't have the time to sit around or want blurry vision for 4 hrs after the exam and there were no side effects. read more

I just walked out of this beautiful clinic and want to make sure I took the time to express my appreciation for the experience I had. From first phone call to walking out the door! I was in a rush, needed a last minute rx and contacts for a trip and realized my script was expired. Yelp karma was on my side today as this was the first place I called, they fit me in yet I didn't feel rushed and also had my contact brand and rx on hand! The doctor and her staff were organized, friendly, fast and very cautious when recommending I actually change my script a bit and wow am I seeing better and more comfortable! I was even looking at some designer frames and she steered me away knowing my severe prescription would ruin the look of the glasses and that I'd likely be disappointed! Honest and sincere business! I've been searching for glasses for the past couple of months and not one pair had caught my eye yet. I went to many different locations and either the frames were too expensive or they didn't have any frames that caught my attention. I went into New York optical just to check out some frames and see if any caught my eye. As soon as I stepped in I was amazed at the variety of frames that they had. I didn't even know where to start. Everything was so clean and there were mirrors everywhere. The person who helped me (Leondra) was super nice and helpful. She was patient with me and I never felt rushed or anything. I love when the workers are patient and friendly. They make you feel much more relaxed. She pretty much took me around the store and showed me the different brands and frame shapes. I tried on Versace, Ray Bans, Prada, Tory Burch, and Salavatore Ferragamo. They also offer Chanel, Tiffany and Co and many more brands. I ended up choosing some Ray Bans and I love them! The prices are great too. Can't complain about anything. Want to thank the staff and how amazing they were. I was looking for a specific pair of Chanel's and the staff was prompt and quick to let me know they had them in stock. Everyone helped me pick out my amazing glasses and they were extremely helpful and attentive. My only recommendation is to not take small children and make an appt to take your time with the doctor, she really explains and gives you her recommendations which really needs your whole attention. I'm a mother of a small child and if I would have taken her with me I would have not had the time to choose what I really wanted let alone payed attention to what the doctor was recommending. Are you in dire need of an eye exam? I know I was in one recently! Not having my eyes checked since 2008 had me uneasy. On the one hand, I wanted to go to get a clear and updated answer, while on the other hand I just didn't want to know. Let me blissfully see what's there--or not there. I'm not sure whether the dentist or the eye doctor is worse for me. So I meandered around until it was time for me to just get up and go to New York Style Optometry. I arrived to a parking spot right in front on a Friday afternoon, with no appointment, filling out paperwork in a matter of minutes. Luckily my family and I have been visiting this optometrist for years so they had most of my history on file. They even recognized that I look like my mom! I wonder if that's something they say to all their customers. Compliment duly noted! The counter girls took me to get preliminary eye pressure and focus tests, and also peripheral vision games, I mean tests, before I went in to see the doctor. The doctor and I bonded over our past employment experience at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute, even though I probably failed my stereo vision test still, and she proceeded to have me read and read and read. The verdict: 20/20 vision near and far. Whew!!! To help me take advantage of my unused vision insurance, since I'm not quite 26 yet and still covered under my mother's comprehensive plan, they offered me many different options to chose from. I definitely feel "khatered" to here. And so I will come back to get my eyes dilated so they can analyze "the back of my eyes" (scary), but most likely to just pick up my lenses from the very helpful ladies who assisted picking frames complimentary for my face shape. Dr. Chae is very caring, helpful, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Her whole staff is amazing and very easy to work with.
