Very pleasantly surprised by this place. Over 9 dollars for a half sandwich and salad, but more than worth it. Everything is made fresh. There's a condiment/pickles/croutons/breadsticks bar in the middle of the place. Caesar salad was tasty with home made Caesar Dressing. I was free to add more croutons and shredded parmesan cheese from the center thing. The chicken salad came on this toasted bread. Best I've had in a while. Great selection and very friendly people. This is now my 5 start lunch place in Memphis/Southaven. Great alternative to BBQ, and given the quality of the BBQ I've had here so far. ... I'll take thiss everyday. The lobster crab bisque is better than any other I've ever had, including in Maine. The chicken sandwich with goat cheese and roasted peppers is my favorite. The chicken salad and pimento cheese are great as well. I'm not a salad eater, but their salads are huge. The sweet tea is a little too sweet. They have a large variety of good desserts, likes moist cakes and huge brownies. Newk's was started by the same guy that started McAlister's. It's a fairly local chain, as it too started in Oxford. It's a little more upscale than McAlister's and a tad bit more pricey. It's well worth the higher prices. read more

One of my favorite places to go if I want soup and sandwich. I stared eating at this place in 2009-2011 or around that date.

I've been going to this Newk's in Southaven on Getwell for years at least 3 times a week prior to Covid. I like to support local and small business but I will no longer be a guest there. This has nothing to do with Covid because this particular employee has been there for years and has the same sour attitude and lack of customer service she has always had. She is older , maybe around 65, short with short hair and glasses. Never smiles and everytime I walk in and it's not busy , she is looking down; she doesn't see you or acknowledge you because she is looking down- I suspect playing with her phone. I stood there a full 15 minutes behind a guy at the other cashier with a huge order for his office( he was there over 40 minutes dealing with his takeout order) . One cashier dealing with him and the other woman , looking at her phone. She wasn't aware I was there. I was being polite and stood until she was done with whatever it was she was playing with. I had to go to work though. Still standing there waiting to be served a woman walks in behind me, she suddenly looks up from her phone and says " can I help you" and taker her order! Not only did the woman not get in line but she got her order taken right away ! So I get a little mad after she took the other woman's order she finally gets to me. I ask why she let her go in front of me and ignored taking my order for 15 minutes. The other cashier chimes in and tells me not to talk to her that way. Really! She isn't doing her job , and you don't want me to call her out!? As I thought about this later, that older woman has always done that. I remember walking in many many times and waiting for her to look up so I can approach with my order. But she doesn't. When she senses more people are coming in it gets her attention, she puts her phone away and starts working while exuding this attitude that she is doing you a favor to take your order. Because of her inefficiency to do her job the line built up a lot. If you are trying to stop in this Newk's for a quick work lunch don't bother. They have become super slow and inefficient. Might be best to go across the street and support Chic Fil-A. I also feel that they should have taken this guy with his order for 15 and handled him individually to not hold up everyone else for 40 minutes. Or he could have called his order in ahead. He was ordering off a piece of paper and not only was it a huge order but the cashier was chatting with him too not being efficient, while the other looking at her phone. Don't they know people have to go to work?? Don't they know it's a place to pop in and get a quick lunch ? Surely they understand..... read more

Probably my second time eating here. I ordered on the app at approximately 4:00 p.m. I ran a few errands and came to the restaurant at 4:30. My boyfriend goes in and retrieves the mobile order. I didn't have a lot of time to look so I tried the same things I usually like at McAlister's. Unfortunately I wasn't fond of what I got at all. A co-worker offered me the rest of her ham sandwich after she had eaten all she was going to. I noticed their salads were pretty popular and looked really good in their retro-shaped bowls. Went here because they have super moist cake and there is one in Charlotte. Therefore, eating here while on the road is a great/ safe way to try a place. Atmosphere - Busy, restaurant chain/ large deli styling, open kitchen, noisy, open, booths and tables, informal, green p-leather, linoleum flooring Food - Lots of choices. I had the grilled chicken sandwich/ por boy, a slice of pizza, ice tea and a slice of pineapple cake. The grilled chicken came on a delicious baguette. The pizza was surprisingly tasty with a tender thin crust and great sauce. The pineapple cake was definitely moist. Almost like a flavorful cake batter. Service - It was good for a place that takes your order, gives you a number and a tray, and then makes you wait for it to arrive. Everyone was friendly and the places was rocking with people. I am so disappointed. I have been going to this Newk's for years with great food and service. But obviously management or ownership has changed. Most of the workers were unprofessional and definitely not helpful. They were sloppily dressed, and served our food wearing earbuds. When I tried to ask a question they couldn't even hear me because of the earbuds. They've stopped serving regular dishes and salad bowls. Instead, everything is given to you in to-go plasticware. They tried to blame it on COVID but I know this is not true! The food was not good. Chicken was burnt. Don't waste your time or money until something changes!!! read more

This place is not what it used to be ever since it changed ownership/management. My wife and I came to this location to get lunch and the total cost of the meal was $35 for the two of us which wouldn't have been an issue if the food and service were good. The chicken on my chicken club sandwich and my wife's Newks Q sandwich was so hard and dry it was inedible and the bacon looked like it wasn't even cooked. A few years back before the change this place was packed during lunchtime hours...I guess walking in and seeing hardly any customers during the lunch rush should've been a clue. If you're going to charge ridiculous prices then a least make sure your food is good! Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this place! read more

I have been a Newk's customer for 5+ years. Food has always been good or better. Yesterday, on my way home from work, I went to Newk's to pick up a sandwich my wife had asked me to get for her. There are signs on the door specifying a mask must be worn to enter. No problem there as our city has a mask order in place. I ordered our food to go and paid for it. While I was waiting for it, I noticed that most of the employees at the counter and in the food prep area had on masks, but they were pulled down to leave the nose and for some, even the mouth exposed (pretty effective use of a mask). I commented on this and a manager spoke to me and said that these are young kids, and it gets hot behind a mask so they just pull them down to breathe better. I noted that if they are preparing food, the nose should be covered. She seemed to be unconcerned. I was more than a little irked. Their food is good, but their hygiene in the food prep area is abysmal. I don't see myself returning there in the future. For this reason, I rate them at the very bottom. Thumbs down! read more

Stopped in on Friday 3/8 at 12:30pm. First time at this location but I have had lunch quite a few times at others. Usual size crowd; maybe a little thinner than usual. Ordered a shrimp poboy and grabbed a drink and waited. 25 minutes later...........they delivered my food and said they were sorry they lost the ticket. Ok. I get it. It happens. I had time to wait. They have quite a lot of options on their menu so it took me a few minutes to decide on what to get and I decided on a steak sandwich with a side of fruit and a fountain drink. I ordered the horseradish spread on the side and it came exactly how I ordered it. They have a small bar with a few extras (like pickles and croutons) you can add to your food along with a lot of packaged breadsticks that you add to your meal if you are so inclined. It was pretty good, but I do think it was a bit pricey (at around 10 bucks) for what and how much you get. I also notice my order was rang up incorrectly and had someone check on it. It was still made wrong but after seeing several people wait even longer for remakes. It wasnt worth it. First time here. I ordered the pimento cheese sandwich and a side of the Tippah County Caviar(black eyed peas salad) and a cup of mushroom soup. Best pimento sandwich ever! The mushroom soup was excellent too. The wife ordered the steak sandwich minus the caramelized onions. Well, it came with onions anyway. Promptly sent it back and the manager brought out a fresh sandwich just minutes later with her apologies. She then gave us a free dessert for our troubles. When Newks Eatery came along I was skeptical to try them (and a little offended that someone else was trying to cut into "McCD"'s pie). Having tried them I do enjoy them now both equally. That back story being said, today my wife and I came to Newks for a small lunch (she was craving their Spicy Shrimp Pizza). I ended up getting a half sandwich & soup combo (the wife got her pizza and a salad & soup too!) Now let me tell you - of their four choices of soup for the day, the wife decided on Loaded Potato Soup, so that's what I went with also (don't judge). At first spoonful, oh... It was a spectacularly transformative experience. The simplicity of the dish would not be one that you would typically associate with sophisticated complexity that Potato Soup is NOT known for. In summation, the Loaded Potato Soup was a delectable delight that satisfied my soul, enriched my spirit and transformed my perception of this simple dish, from plainly pleased to superbly satisfied. The whole staff gas lighted my mom in front of our entire family and restaurant when kid ringing her up stole her gift card at the register. When asked, the manager was snippy and said it wasn't her own fault and that she was not going to help my mother. My mom then proceeded to ask the kids name and the manager wouldn't tell her and said that all corporate complaints go straight to her own email. It wasn't the ten dollars that mattered but how they made my own mom feel so small and violated. Terrible horrible service. This location is going downhill, I normally eat here at least 2-3 times a week for lunch, and for the last few visits there has always been a problem. Hopefully this reaches someone that can make a positive change to this location because this was once was my favorite lunch spot, but now I can go in and expect for my order to be wrong, food cold after waiting for the order at the table for over 30 minutes, bar not stocked, or filthy tables with flies. I love the Newk's chain, they have fantastic selections and their sandwiches, pizzas, and salads are my go-to. You can't go wrong with what you order, and not only is their sweet tea incredible, they have a fantastic Splenda sweetened tea that tastes almost like real sweet tea. Highly recommended! read more

Want a huge salad, here ya go! Salads always seem fresh and have quality ingredients. Sandwiches are normally just as good as the fresh soups. Menu is limited for types of bread for sandwiches. Place is spacious and staff friendly. Food is the "California" foo foo style if you're into that thing. No fat free or "reduced" salad dressing available. Salad is of large portion however, for over $11 it should be. It's ok, won't be a regular personally. Enjoyed a nice lunch today at Newks. The roast beef was tender and tasty being a nice rare for juiciness! My spouse had the pesto chicken which was very good! We each got the half and half with her ordering the lobster and crab bisque which was superb! I had the beef chili which unfortunately tasted like it came from a can!
