I am writing after my second visit. The first visit was long but expected as a new patient and they did x-rays and a scan (Andre was a big help) and wrote up a treatment plan. I'm grateful for insurance covering most of the recommended treatment. My first visit was on a Friday and the office was super busy. Later, I had questions about the treatment plan and really appreciated that Misty took the time to go over everything with me. I just returned from my second appointment...another long one, but expected due to the deep cleaning, cavity and crown work. Newport Smiles is like the Ex boyfriend that will not go away. I went to them for a cleaning at the end of January everyone was really nice and helpful, they sold me on replacing my cavity fillers, which we did in two parts. I had to pay out of pocket for half of it. The other part my insurance took care of. A month later I received a bill and a link text for the part I paid out of pocket, I called them to rectify the billing and they said they cleared it up; now we're in June, I receive another bill for for the amount that I already paid and they said they cleared. Obviously someone is not doing their job right although I liked the service when I got my teeth cleaned this has made me not ever wanna go back to this company the fact that I'm going through hoops for something I paid for the day of and now it's six months later is all bad, frustrating and irritating. read more

If I knew that the people who work at this office existed I would have went to a dentist a lot sooner. My experience was so wonderful throughout the entire process it almost didn't feel real until I was leaving. I was terrified with all of the issues I was dealing with, and I wanted to keep ignoring them, until I couldn't which happened to be last Thursday in the middle of the night and that led me to finding Newport Smiles on a random google search. They turned out to be unbelievably skilled and professional while being some of the most helpful people I've met. The front staff are incredible woman who speak to you so kindly with the intention to really make it possible for you to get done what you need. I had to pay out of pocket and the effort Misty put in to make that possible for me wasn't something I've been used to at any medical or dental office. Once in the chair I told Dylan, the dental assistant working with me, how nervous I was. Like shaking nervous. I'm used to more cold responses from many places I've gone, or even if they are speaking with a sweet tone you can tell they just want you to be quite so they can do what they need to. Dylan's energy was so genuine I started to feel like maybe this was the right place to be, he put me at ease quickly which is next to impossible for me in a dentists chair. From there every single person who came in to speak to me about what was going on had the same energy and same genuine kindness. Both the dentist I saw last week and the dentist I saw this week were so understanding about how terrified I was, incredibly kind, and very patient with me. They did an incredible job on my wisdom teeth removal and deep cleaning, and it somehow felt more gentle but better than when I used to get regular cleanings in the past where there was infinitely less to do. I couldn't have a higher recommendation for this office for anyone who's hesitant about going to a dentist or someone looking for the most incredible service. read more

First off I was nervous, but Dr. Puri eased my worries. She was amazing, she walked me through the process. I've been to many Dentist but this experience was by far the best. I took advantage of the nitrous it made the process so much better. The one thing that stands out was how much she cared about me and wanted to genuinely make me comfortable. Look no further Dr. Puri is the real deal. Veronica the assistant was Great, She kept me informed and that means a lot. The level of staff here is top notch. My overall experience was terrible, I think because the staff was rushing. This was my first and last visit. They recommended a deep cleaning for me, which I have needed before at other offices. However, they did not offer anesthetic, nor did the doctor stop when I was clearly in a lot of pain. She also did not seem very empathetic to that fact, and only spent about 5-10 minutes on a "deep clean". She also told me that I had multiple cavities that needed fillings, which were not seen on the x ray and when she showed me a 3D rendering, I did not see. I have gotten a 2nd opinion where they showed me actual photos of my teeth and I DO NOT have cavities. I asked for an Invisalign consult but was not given any information and was not asked if I had questions about ANYTHING. After all this the doctor was at the lobby door with all her things, clearly waiting for me to leave so she could leave. If there was an emergency or another appointment she had to get to, it would have been better to reschedule me instead of rushing my appointment. read more

Where do I start with this place. I unfortunately made the mistake of coming to this place last month. My regular dentist didn't take my dental discount card, so I found this place that did. I had a crown/ root canal that I was worried might have to be extracted if it was unable to be fixed. I had no pain, but I knew there was likely decay under the crown. I had a consultation and X-rays, which they said showed two cavities that needed to be filled. They also recommended a ct scan on the crown tooth to see under, as well as a night guard for being a " major clencher/ grinder" they said. I started with the fillings. They did one side of my mouth, then came back another day for the other side which was the back molar closest to the initial issue tooth / the crown tooth . I had zero pain in any teeth, until he did the filling on my back molar. I had immediate pain. ANY, cold/ or chewing now on that side was excruciating after my filling. They said " could be normal would resolve" when it didn't , he said " oh its because they cleaned around my gums which exposed more of the nerve" ( not true) then, I came in for my CT scan for the crown tooth, and to address the pain in the filling tooth, he said wait longer and he will look at it more. I came back in to talk to specialist about the crown tooth ct scan findings... and they came in and let me know, that " oh, the filling tooth, is cracked and needed to be taken out asap. AND , the crown tooth also needs to be taken out as well. The doctor that came in was VERY QUICK and rushed, he made me feel rushed and like I couldn't ask questions or understand well, because he was so short. I was trying to understand WHY, my tooth hurt only after the filling and now it needs to be extracted? I was trying to understand how I went from one possible extraction to now needed TWO!!! I was already very worried about the cost of one extraction and implant and now I'm dealing with double the cost! They basically tried to tell me that it cracked due to clenching / grinding at night. I asked why it only hurt right after filling, and they said " it is just coincidental that it cracked right after filling, and before CT scan. Then the front desk lady came to tell me that it would cost 1600 PER TOOTH to extract, and 5000 per tooth implant. But with my discount card, they would charge me 800 per tooth to extract, and 3600 each implant. So I was looking at about 9000 to 10k total, but oh, they would reimburse the 140 I paid for the filling.. how nice of them... When I left, I had a chance to think about it all, and realized that the dentist cracked my tooth during the filling, and now I'm suffering financially and physically from it. I called them to ask for my images, which they said I needed to pay 50.00 for them, unless I buy my own flash drive so I did. I came in to pick up the images, and I told the front desk lady that I wouldn't be back and that they broke my tooth. She said " oh well when you do fillings , and you clench/ grind, it increases your chances of cracking a tooth. ... Hmmm should they have told me this prior? yes! ALSO, , if they KNEW that, then why didn't they protect my tooth after the filling by getting me a guard first, or putting a cap on it to protect it??? I would never had done it!! Then I let her know I called other dentist that charged 1/10 of their prices and she said " well , those are our prices " in which I let her know, I"ll pass on their high prices. 10 out of 10 do NOT recommend this place. ( UPDATE: I found another dentist, that looked at their CT scan and didn't see the crack, I called and asked them to send a photo of the crack to help , and they refused to send it). SO they did another ct scan, and they recommend, a root canal / crown, and on the current one, a revision of the root canal. The cost for both teeth is less, than the one tooth quote from Newport smiles, also, they did a free ct scan, and Newport smiles charged me 250 for theirs. RESPONSE to their response: This is yet another example of the gaslighting . In my initial consult and consult prior to getting the fillings. I was NEVER notified/ warned in any way, that IF, I was to do a filling on what was just a small cavity ( which was confirmed to me by two other dental offices who reviewed your own X-ray of the 15 tooth. It was NOT a compromised/ or weakened tooth. That It is possible because of the clenching and grinding, that the tooth can break or crack and consequently LOSE that tooth too. I would have NEVER EVER AGREED to proceed with the filling. That is absurd to think I would or anyone would . It is quite simple. YOU FAILED to explain to me any of that. Also FAILED to simply understand the simplest of solutions, which is " hey , you are a clincher and grinder, and you are already possibly losing number 14, so we can't risk tooth 15. and putting a filling in it right now could crack/ break it, so, Hey! lets get you a night guard first. or crown it. read more

I was visiting the Newport Beach area when I had a piece of a bottom tooth crack and fall off. This was on a Thursday evening. By Friday at 4 p.m., I was in the chair at Newport Smiles. Dr. Puri was realistic about what she could do given that I would be driving home in three days. She gave me a temporary fix to get me through and prescribed an antibiotic (I need a root canal). I'm a very nervous and squeamish dental patient, but the staff at Newport Smiles was so kind and friendly, especially Xochitl. She also emailed me the x-rays when I got home so I could send them to my regular dentist. Thank you! read more

My tooth still isn't right after I told you I needed to see an endodontist but the person actually ground down my tooth and I find out a couple of appointments in that he was not an endodontist! This was years ago and I am still trying to fix the damage you did. Go ahead respond with something you think is going to look like you knew what you were doing but you didn't and were deceptive on who was working on my tooth. read more

Avoid this place! It's sad to see dentists resort to shady tactics just because insurance companies don't reimburse enough. I went in because my mouth was bothering me, and they took X-rays but couldn't pinpoint the problem tooth. Next thing I knew, they were prepping me for a root canal, claiming it could be a previously treated tooth or even just a cavity--they were just guessing, saying it was "better to be safe than sorry." I found out later that my insurance covered prep for medical, so I walked out mid-procedure to get a second opinion. Turns out my tooth was fine--and still is 3 years later! They continue to call me yearly, trying to get me back in and it's so frustrating but also the reason I remembered to write this :))! read more

As you can see from the owners reply to my experience , they will resort to gaslighting facts instead of actually explaining their actions. As my original review clearly states, my insurance company explained that my dental work paperwork that Newport Smiles submitted made it appear that I made two separate visits on two separate days when I absolutely did not. All of my work was done in one sitting & one appointment. That is why, in my opinion, this office lacks class & professionalism. Interesting that the owners reply conveniently sidestepped those facts , instead focusing on their collection efforts, which were fairly aggressive for a dental office, IMO. The standards at this place are clearly being dictated from the top down. Good luck if you choose to have this office in charge of your health & wallet. I went in to get my right lower wisdom extraction yesterday. Dr. Makanji examined me from beginning to ending of the procedure. He was informative and friendly. He also made me feel less nervous as he told me this procedure was something he felt very confident. The procedure was so quick and well done I was able to feel great. Today I did not take any ibuprofen except the amoxicillin. No swollen on my face either. I will definitely come back to see Dr. Makanji to get my rest of wisdom extractions. read more

Do not recommend this place. Terrible service. Overprice and clearly they do not care about their clients, they just want to make their money. I do recommend before you even make an appointment to ask how much a visit will cost or any procedure cause they tent to not even explain what's happening and then hit you with an overprice bill. Newport smiles is everything you could want in a dental office. After years of going to the same dentist in South Pasadena I moved to Newport Beach and I was pretty distressed at the prospect of having to change my dentist. Dr Puri's office changed all that. First the simple stuff. There's plenty of easy free parking. The front desk staff it's always polite, knowledgeable and quite thoughtful. The office has state of the art equipment and is always sparkling clean. The hygienists do an amazing job and never fail to be both gentle and thorough. But far and away the best part of this business is Dr Puri herself. She's an incredibly knowledgeable and talented dentist who's always there for her patients. throughout his life, my husband has, had a horrific track record with dentists. Several years ago Dr Puri performed multiple procedures for implants and he couldn't have been more pleased. Over the past 5 years i've had a number of crowns and root canals with dr. Puri and I've always felt exceptionally well cared for. Dr Puri takes her time with you and sees you as a person. Her level of compassion is a rarity and her professionalism is beyond compare. Currently I am having the Invisalign treatment at Newport smiles and again they've gone out of their way to make this as easy as possible. The reception desk is not helpful or friendly. They dated the fillings I got wrong (which I specifically waited for the new year to get them done to get my new insurance cycle to pick it up) to last year and refuse the correct the system aka their mistake. I'm going to be looking for a new dentist for sure. Answering comment: that's what I'm saying in my review. I am saying that i was a mistake that is not being corrected because it was billed on the wrong day. Not the day of the service. Even though I HAD waited to get them done in the new year, the bill I was given to right after the service (and paying too which I can prove) was dated wrongly in the past. So it's a system/human error that needs to be corrected not for MY CONVENIENCE. read more

I am really not one to write a negative review but I just feel people should be informed about this office. By far the worst experience I have ever had. First was making jokes about my teeth in front of me as they went over my x rays saying that they looked like baby teeth..? Then proceeded to tell me I had four cavities (I am not cavity prone and my other dentist later confirmed this was not true). They then said they couldn't do the standard cleaning but instead recommended the $145 cleaning. I said that since this is my first visit I would like to proceed with the standard cleaning for now. I could hear her talking to the dentist in the other room only to come back in and tell me "we are really behind so I will have to schedule you to come back." I found that extremely shocking and unprofessional as I left my office in the middle of the work day for this appointment only to be told I had to come back? Never in my life have I made an appointment, shown up for the appointment, and then be told I needed to come back because they didn't have time for me. I feel bad because the front desk girls were extremely nice but want to help people not make the same mistake I did by going here! read more

MUST READ!!!! I was once a patient with Newport Smiles after having one of my fillings fall out. Newport Smiles were able to see me as a new patient and fix my tooth the following business day. During my visit I agreed to having x-rays and a cleaning done. The dentist came in and told me I had numerous amounts of cavity in my molars and needed to get them taken care of as soon as possible before I develop further and more serious issues and also recommended I have a deep teeth cleaning which caught me by surprise because I have fairly healthy gums and strong teeth. As afraid as I was I agreed to the procedures and was only able to afford to have one side of my molar "cavities" filled. After multiple visits and a few thousand dollars later I wasn't able to afford to have the other "cavities" taken care of so I decided to put it aside for 1 year. Well 2 years later, I relocate and found a new dentistry to have my "pre-existing" cavities taken care of. After an exam and x-rays I asked the dentist about my cavities and he counted ABSOLUTELY ZERO!!!! Be careful where you book your appointments. Thank you for your time. read more

I have had many appointments with this office and can truly say it is the best. I had a fear of trying a new dentist after how bad my last one was and I am so glad I ended up here.
