I've found my new dental office!!!! Ever since my family dentist of over 20 years retired, I've had a very challenging time finding my new dentist. Unfortunately, so many offices just give off that "sales" vibe and the last place I went to for 3 years tried to overcharge me twice - that was the straw that broke the camels back. I stumbled upon Tustin Smile on social media, looked at the reviews and decided to give them a try. I'm SO glad I did. I needed to have a tooth extraction and made an appointment. From my initial consultation to my procedure, I was treated with care, sensitivity, empathy and respect. Juan was fantastic, breaking down the treatment plan set out by Dr. Shah, cost and options for treatment. Briana was so sweet, calling to offer me an earlier appointment. Cody (office manager) was nothing more than personable and kind, making sure I had what I needed to be informed for my procedure and calling the next day to see how I was feeling. Dr. M and Israel were the BEST during my procedure. Dr. M came in and described what was going to take place, answered any questions I had and got to work. During the entire procedure both she and Israel were so comforting, often asking how I was doing, do I need a break and the occasional "you're doing amazing." First impressions: Kody was a very warm touch from the beginning. I first spoke to him on the phone, he took very good care of me. I came in my for appointment, unfortunately they had to rebook me after my xrays to next day. I came in and they explained what needed to be done, although I wish the Dr. explained a little further on why I needed my crown to be done, without asking. Nonetheless, I got the information I needed and everyone was very kind and warm in the office. Doctor seemed rush, but I understand he's busy. Pricing: Kody presented the pricing options for me on my 3 crowns needed and broke down the pricing. When I exited, he gave me thorough information on what I needed. When I asked him questions, if he did not know, he told me to ask the Doctor, real respect for guiding me in the right direction and not just giving me a random answer. Other local dentists: I have been to 3 other dentists in Tustin, OC. This one by far is the friendliest, and seemed to care the most. They were not pushy on pricing on trying to add things I did not need. TLDR: Overall, I would recommend to a friend. The reviews here are genuine and they are there to help. A little upset they made me reschedule, but hopefully they will continue to take good care of me. Kody was fantastic with working on me with pricing options. Compared to other quotes, they were a little higher, but I'll see what solid numbers come up. Dr's could elaborate more on why I need a procedure and trade offs of not doing procedure. I'm a senior, retired, with a fixed income who can't afford the pricey dental insurance that's out there. So, when I saw Tustin Smiles in my HMO plan's network, I was hopeful to get some very basic care that would be covered. I went in hoping for a cleaning. Everyone in the office was very nice. They took me back right away, where the assistants did a full mouth x-ray and a gum assessment. Dr. came in, also a very pleasant person, asked me why I had come in. I told him my situation, and that I was hoping to get a cleaning that would be covered by my insurance. He took a look in my mouth and at the x-rays, and with the assistant taking notes, he began to rattle off a ton of work that needed to be done. He told me an assistant would return with a list of the work and pricing. Good thing I was sitting down. End of the day, I needed close to $4,000 worth of dental work. Funny, nothing hurt in my mouth. But, even a cleaning (which is noted by my insurance as a covered service) was not an option. No, I needed a "deep cleaning" which was $600 out of pocket for me. I thanked them and left without doing anything. One would think that the doctor, after me explaining I just can't afford things, and just wanted a cleaning, would have read the room a bit. Dude, work with me here. Help me out. You'd get paid back by my insurance. But no. I went back to my previous dentist. He doesn't accept HMO, but I really needed a cleaning. He looked, said that a deep cleaning was absolutely unnecessary, did a very thorough cleaning, and charged me about $120 bucks. He didn't take x-rays, but looked around, said that since I'm in no discomfort, no need to do anything major at this time. He also asked if I could get a copy of my x-rays from Tustin Smiles, for him to review and have on file. So, I called them to ask. I spoke to a very nice person, told her I came in and the work they recommended was just too expensive, that I went elsewhere and the dentist asked for a copy of the x-rays. She said that she's the office manager, reviewed the estimate, told me that she thinks she could save me a lot of money by discounting the work. She would send me a revised estimate, along with a copy of the x-rays. Which she never did. Never received anything from her. I'm so disappointed. I thought I had a solution for affordable dental work, close to home, that would be covered by my insurance. Be forewarned - this is one of those dental offices that over-prescribes the work that needs to be done, and ridiculously over-prices so they can pad their pockets. And then when you ask for a little help, you won't get it. Stay away. read more

HMO Dental insurance paid very little to the dental office for your routine cleaning ($30 - less than Medi-Cal paid to the office .... so I was told by the other place). Instead of being honest and straightforward with the crappy HMO Dental Insurance payout coverage, all these dental offices would came up with these elaborate unnecessary dental work on your food perfectly fine teeth to cover their loss on your regular routine cleaning. It's your good teeth that paid the price for your HMO Dental insurance. See it for yourself. Go in a dental office as a Cash patient, PPO Dental Insurance patient, and an HMO Dental Insurance for regular routine cleaning. Its always the place that accepts HMO that found problems on your teeth. read more
