I work in insurance, and I work with body shops often. The work that was done on my car was fine. It wasn't A+ work, but it is fine. The work took about 1 week, and I know it was only about a 3 day repair. My tire went flat while the car was in their possession. They did put a new tire on for me. The location is very convenient because it is close to the Bethesda metro station. read more

A Month-long joke. In a serious of unfortunate events I was unlucky to get in an accident with no cars involved but my own on the drive up to DC. A five-hour drive mind you. My insurance company was quick, decisive, and pleasant in handling the logistics and process of the car- I wish I could say the same for the shop. My insurance partnered with this shop and I got occasional updates as follows: The first week the shop informs me that they need to first do an inspection and get in contact with my insurance to figure out the costs and general logistics. The second week I get an update saying the car will likely be fixed by mid to end the week. Halfway through that, I get an update saying additional damage was found and as such the time frame might be the end of the week to early next week but everything is covered under the insurance. The third week not a single update. The fourth week on Wednesday I call asking for an update. The woman at the shop says she'll get back to me. Unable to pick up the call, she leaves a voicemail saying that the car should be ready by Friday. I don't call back as she makes it clear there isn't much else to be done with the car. Friday arrives, I fly to DC and I call the shop asking when I can pick up the car. She informs me that the shop forgot to do a wheel alignment and to order an engine cover and fix it on the car. You have a WHOLE MONTH, people. She informs me, to her annoyance that there isn't much to be done as the 4th of July meant the shop was closed and I would have to check in on Monday. The website and voicemail of the shop say it's open at 8 am. The woman who I have been dealing with didn't even arrive till 9. And upon getting an update in person, to her apparent inconvenience, informs me that she'll give me an update in an hour or two on both the alignment and engine cover. Three hours pass and I call and again and tone seems to indicate my need for a car after a month is such a burden for her. She tells me I'm looking till much later in the afternoon. It wasn't till 4 pm on a Monday, over a month after its been in the shop, that she expresses any sort of sympathy for my situation or gives me any sort of reason why the delay had occurred. The reasoning behind the apparent incompetence isn't even worth detailing in this already long review. What a terrible experience and what a joke of a situation. If you want your car fixed by the time the sun blows and customer service that makes McDonald's look like Chick-fil-a this is your shop. read more

Friendly and professional. I came in for a scratch on the side of my car that had rusted. The man working there gave me an estimate for them doing the work and also explained how I could do it myself for much cheaper, albeit with a less professional looking result. I appreciated that he gave me all the info and let me make a choice. I would definitely return if I have a car problem in the future. read more

They did a great job on my bmw 328i. After I stupidly scratched up my entire hood trying to clean it, I took it to several auto body shops. Maaco tried to talk me into painting it for 500 dollars and another body shop told me that wet sanding and buffing would not work. Yet Newtown was very confident that wet sanding would work and quoted me a price half that of other shops. It turned out great leaving only one small scratch which they told me would not be fixed by the wet sanding process during my estimate. Would definitely return to this family-run business. read more

We visited Newtown Auto Body today for body work on a Jeep. Upon arrival, we were told the printed information for our case (we called ahead) was lost, and were handed only a one-page agreement to authorize the shop to begin repair work. Before signing, we requested a written estimate for time and expense on this repair to be provided from Newtown prior to any work. Bonnie immediately deferred to the insurance estimate, and verbally assured us that Newtown would follow this and deal with insurance for any discrepancies, but she would not provide a written estimate. We asked simply that one be emailed on Monday before work began: "You don't understand, you do not need that, you have an estimate from insurance, you're making this too difficult." Her deferral to insurance and refusal, after my NUMEROUS requests for an estimate from Newtown, seemed dishonest and quickly became rude and unprofessional. I'm not sure if writing an estimate is burdensome or if something else was happening in this shop, but I do know, thanks to the large sign posted inside, that Montgomery County law protects a customer's right to such an estimate. Bonnie's refusal to provide this and repeated attempts to deflect our request left us feeling that the service at Newtown is insincere, disorganized, and dishonest *at best*; we did not feel safe to leave our car with this shop. read more

I brought my Audi A6 to Newtown last week for repairs and I couldn't be happier with the work! After having my driver's side rear damaged in a parking lot I asked around for a recommendation to a local shop where I could have it fixed, and was directed to Newtown. I stopped by their office in Bethesda and got an estimate. Leandro, the owner's son, couldn't have been more helpful. Within ten minutes he had written an estimate for me. He answered all of my questions and explained the repairs that needed to be done in detail. I left my car with them and got a few days later saying it was done. When I went back to pick it up I couldn't believe how nice the car looked. My Audi was beautiful again! The paint matched perfectly (I was a little concerned about this) and it looked like nothing had ever happened to it. Leandro explained that I had a lifetime warranty on the work, but I don't think I will need it. Oh, and they cleaned the inside and washed the car before I got it back! It actually looked better than when I dropped it off! I will be going back for any other work I need in the future. They did a great job and treated me very well. read more

We needed to have a door repaired after running into a post. We used Newtown Auto. Other body shops were a little cheaper and could do it faster, but we decided we trusted the guy at Newtown and would go with them. Besides, they promised us a loaner car so we figured the extra day wouldn't matter. While the actual repair work was fine, the experience was disappointing. We would not recommend Newtown to anyone. They did not provide a loaner car even though they knew we had only one car. They somehow lost a piece of the console while cleaning the interior and they did not take any steps to replace after acknowledging the loss. The final straw was a spot immediately above where they were painting that had appeared to be tar looked a lot more like rust when the car was returned. We questioned why they hadn't called us to tell us they had found some rust so we could have the repair done while they had the car. They made it very clear that they do only what is asked. We even called the manager to confirm this approach. All in all, we were disappointed with Newtown and should we need repairs again, we will go with one of the other body shops that are faster, cheaper, come through on their commitments -- and are probably more focused on helping out the customer. read more
