My husband and I keep trying this restaurant since it's a neighborhood establishment. But last Saturday night sealed the deal. We will not ever go back. The male waiter was extremely rude and never got our order right. He made us feel we were in the wrong. My cocktail before dinner was not what I asked for, my red fish was cold when served. Dessert was good, but when I asked to box and take home to enjoy later, all I received was attitude. To top off a horrible evening the next morning we were sick, seemed like food poisoning. We went there with a group of six while the food was great, our waiter did not bother to ask for tickets were separate or together so we ended up paying half of the ticket for a group of six. While normally this is not bad my husband only had two drinks and I did not drink anything so something we should've only paid $80 with paying $190 for a ticket. It should've been the waiters responsibility to ask if the tickets were together or separate. In the future i will know to make sure this is made aware of in advance. My friend and I met for lunch. The server told us about the specials and brought an overpriced wine list for Wednesday. There are lunch specials including wine specials on the regular menu. After waiting for some time, we were able to get her attention to order a glass of wine. Wr asked what kind of wine was on the lunch menu. She said "that's hit and miss". We asked what that means. She was unsure of the names of the wine, but we were able to get a glass of some sort of Sauvignon Blanc. We ordered the lobster and shrimp potstickers as an appetizer which were not appealing. The supposed shrimp and lobster looked like balls of something that did not taste like either. We then flagged the server down to order another glass of wine. She informed us the last bottle was empty and it would be a different kind. This time it was a Chardonnay. We ordered the French onion soup fir our entree which was very good. The poor service however continued. No water refills and each time we needed something else, we had to ask the bus girl to have the server come over. There were a couple of people at the bar and the server made derogatory comments about us to them. We had to once again ask the bus girl to get our check. Whe the server brought the check she said"I hope your day was as pleasant as you ladies have been". What a nice way to end our lunch. Needless to say she recent tip and we will never return. Time after time I keep thinking this place will get their act together. I find it absolutely absurd that it takes as long as it does to place a drink order, get your drinks, food etc. After NUMEROUS bad experiences (yes we are a glutton for punishment), tonight we thought it would be different. We decided to "time" it this round - took them 12 minutes for a waiter to come by our table to take our drink order, after being there 26 minutes, we finally had drinks. On top of that - it took over an hour to get our food from time of order. I ordered the filet and I'm not happy with the fact that they they did not give me the sides that were advertised. Filet was overcooked , but dare I send it back and wait another hour - I think not. The food is decent here but the service is disastrous. I'm so glad Stonehouse is open down the street - they'll be getting my business from here on out. Stonehouse delivers quality in a timely manner. Highly disappointing. Food does not raise to all hype at all. Wait staff are very impersonal and not knowledgeable about the menu. They mask their meats with sauces that don't pair well even though they have good selections of meat. Don't trust the manager/owner or the bartender with your drink selection from behind the bar. Beware, always get drinks that are sealed and not preopened brought to your table sealed. Something is definitely not par with this place or the bar. We had a four person party. To be honest, I usually do not review much but due to some of the bizarre and confusing reviews, I thought I would for the sake of the restaurant. The recently remodeled and the interior is chic and modern, maybe a little to 'cool' not necessarily cozy. We were seated right away. The waitress, Jennifer, came by pretty quickly. I had the chicken fried lobster, it was fantastic. Lobster moist and flavorful. We had the Roasted Red Pepper soup and it was soooo good. Be nice if it were a permanent soup!!! I had the veal stuffed quail and I prefer just quail no stuffing. It tasted odd to me. My husband had the pork chop, it was excellent too. Pics attached. Would I go back, YES. I have heard great things about Next Bistro and couldn't wait to try it, especially to try the fois gras and the lamb chops!! So I went with my husband for my birthday, and was very disappointed with the service. The waiter was not happy to serve us and his answers were very short. First, I asked him if they can make any of their cocktails virgin because I will just fall asleep from a sip of alcohol . He was like "No no no we don't do that that a lot of work for that. I can get you juice" . So I went ahead and got pineapple juice and order the fois gras and the lamb chops and asked for it to be cooked medium and quickly changed my mind to medium rare. He then said, are you sure because there is a big difference between the two, I think you need to get it medium. I told him I would prefer it medium rare, when they came out they were medium, I wasn't happy but I didn't want to ruin my mode for my bday. Second, my husband ordered the veal stuffed quail and the waiter didn't hear him very well so he asked which veal? My husband then asked which kinds do you have? He ignored his question and asked him to repeat his order. My husband said veal stuffed quail but I would prefer a different veal if there is another option. The waiter then said "No that the o l'y one we have" . If it is the I l'y one why did he ask 'which veal'. Wife and I came here for Valentines day. I was very excited to try this place after seeing the pics here on yelp... First off they had a fixed menu which was not advertised at all. The items to choose from were not very appealing. We stayed because the drinks were good in hopes that the main course would make up for it. It did not, my medium rare steak came out well done and the wife's first bite of fish had a bone in it. The fish looked like something you get from one of those guys selling stuff out of a freezer in their truck bed and her creamed brussel sprouts were horrible. When the waiter brought my medium steak back I just asked for my check for the drinks and we left. If you want to pay steakhouse prices for bland food and service inside a remodeled Taco Bueno building, this is the spot. The food was ok but portions very small and certainly not worth the shockingly high prices. Service was spotty, especially for such a small restaurant. I have no issue with paying good money for great food, service, atmosphere, etc. However I've been here twice and feel like I've been robbed each time the check dropped, won't be coming back. The quality is slipping here. I'm a regular at Next and have enjoyed having them in the neighborhood. I've written glowing reviews of my experiences, have hosted parties here and recommended Next to friends. So... Last night my wife and I hosted two friends that had not visited Next. The pizza oven was being repaired and we could not enjoy our favorite prosciutto and fig flat bread, our waiter rushed through the menu (the always excellent Francois was not there last night) and then seemed to forget us and then some guy with two women dressed like hookers walked in and proceeded to stage a photo shoot next to our table. No one did anything or offered an explanation. Unbelievable. I finally got up from my guests and asked what was going on and was told the fellow with the "models" was a regular and was doing some promo for a vodka brand. At 7:30 on a Friday night. I can only hope this guy can replace the money I will no longer be spending at Next. I don't even remember what my food tasted like. Angry I didn't get up and walk out... read more

A Thursday dinner for two, date night choices, for a small local bistro with fair ratings, we were immediately pleased with the appetizer and entree choices on the menu. Food served was good.... Ah, then the giant thud---being extremely disappointed with the dismissive service we received from our server / management after the appetizers were served. Server didn't bother to check our satisfaction on entrees, refill our drinks. I actually had to re-engage him about dessert choices... And it was met with a fricking eye roll--- really?? ...all while frozen management team looked on as if they were trying to look busy. This was a meal that topped $145, without alcohol. Even though there is a half price in the menu they apparently don't offer a have salad . So rather than refund you the half price they offer you a dessert... Visited 9/2018 Service was good. Atmosphere was loud, we were in the back room still, bar crowd noise in front room was very distracting. Food quality was average, value was poor. Tried a couple of appetizers, snail and fried squid, average quality, over priced at $13 /ea. Ordered "seafood trio" $38, was served 1 shrimp, 1 scallop and 1 chunk (2oz) white fish - on cold dollops of bland mashed potato, unremarkable french dressing type sauce (shrimp $13 each, better be spectacular, right?). Second entree, fish of the day - served a seared fillet sole (1x 4 oz), nice quality, average presentation, room temp - not worth $60 price tag. 2 sides - corn and risotto, excessively seasoned, room temp. 2x $15/ glass for house chard, less than spectacular, $8 anywhere else. $10 souffle finish was a winner - tasty, served hot and fairly priced. Final kick in the teeth, they charge you for the seemingly "complimentary" bread n butter opener! Tipped generously, for good service, still dropped $250 for 2, was worth 1/2 that. Came here a few days ago with the pickiest eater of all time-My Mom. I started with the daikon salad. It was nice and refreshing, although I didn't find the ingredients to be all that cohesive. But it worked. The Escargot dish was great! Served with a nice sauce that had spinach in it and two pieces of crostini. Next we had the grilled octopus. It was really great, flavors were nice. I could taste the smokiness through every bite. I would say that it was a bit salty. And for the entree, we had the half-duck which the server mentioned as a 'special'. I really enjoyed it! Was a bit pricey for what you get, but i enjoyed that it was simple flavors of the crispy duck laying on a bed of mashed potatoes which had a truffle essence to it. The best dish, I have to say, was actually the Pizzette which was ordered to-go for my man at home. We got the one with Serrano Ham, fig, and goat cheese. It was SOOO delicious! My only gripe is that while sitting in the back corner booth, I witnessed two of the staff members (I think they worked in the kitchen in the back because that is where they disappeared off to) displaying some bad hygiene in public. One guy was digging in his nose for a while. The other was waiting to use the men's room and was going after something stuck in between his back molars. I pray that he washed his hands after he used the restroom. YIKES! I realize this is human nature so I won't hold this against them...just thought it might be a good FYI. read more

I was not impressed with this place. The seating is so close together, you're basically in the other diner's laps! We shared a pizette, and it didn't have sauce on it so it was really dry and flavorless. We asked for a side of sauce to dip the pizzette in, but it was cold and didn't help at all. The second star is for the wine, because the wine I had was actually great...wish I could remember the type. I would say maybe we ordered the wrong item and I would like to go back and try another menu item (the fish and chips looked really good), but the atmosphere was so squashed that I think if I'm going to drop $60 for a meal, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Had dinner here Saturday night with some friends . Absolutely love this place. The restaurant is tastefully decorated . The bar is a good place to hang out . We were seated promptly . Our waiter was on the spot taking drink orders . We ordered SeaBass , Black Cod , and 2 Ribeye Specials . For appetizers Hatch Green Chiles Cigars and a Peach Cheese and Prosciutto plate . The peaches and cheese were a hit . Very fresh and filling . I also had the Peach and Tomato Salad . Wow I want one now as I write this . I was informed the Black Cod was sold out . Dang it ! I ordered a Fried Green Tomato dish with Cajun Crab Louie . Also a side of Mushroom Risotto . Our dishes came and all were pleased . The Sea Bass with the Asparagus Purée was the best dish I've tried in a while . Yummy . Steaks were cooked to order . Eclectic, pan-European cuisine. Escargot appetizer was nice - not overly garlicky like some other places. The ahi tuna appetizer had a great kick to it - alas unappreciated by my spice averse son. Loved their Field Greens salad, which had interesting contrasts of flavors & textures that work well together: sweet, savory, citrusy, crunchy, soft, etc. Had the pork special for the entree. It was two chops put together & I thought I'd have trouble finishing it. After one bite, I didn't stop until I got down to the two bones. The pork was tender, flavorful, & cooked to perfection. Plus, the sauce just set off the inherent flavor. All in all, great place with great food. though, as others have noted, the layout of the place is a bit off - a holdover from its former occupant. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Next. Its extensive gourmet menu and exhaustive wine and spirits selection sparked our imagination after many months of home cooking during the pandemic. A salad of Parker County peach slices accompanied by burrata cheese and arugula, drizzled with a balsamic reduction was generous enough to share. It was a lovely starter for the sesame crusted Yellowfin Tuna, served rare with a mushroom/edamame jumble and the char-grilled veal-stuffed quail, accompanied by squash risotto. I start at 3 with Next Wood Fire Grill because their bartender was new and didn't appreciate the nuance of a drink order. I had to ask to order food after sitting with a closed menu for 10 minutes....maybe i should have taken the hint? The food made up for less than stellar bar service. Flatbread was perfectly baked. Classy local spot with mixed food. A group of us enjoyed sharing a baked brie appetizer and a great bottle of cabernet. Our waiter was terrific and we appreciated the special birthday dessert. My pork tenderloin was just OK and a bit salty to my taste. It was served with cubed potatoes that would almost pass for hash browns at a nice breakfast spot. I personally would have enjoyed more of a green veggie than a small braised piece of bok choy. The restaurant can be pricey. The tables are close together. He proceeded to huff, puff and stomp around the restaurant until we left....for about $100/person I expect better service. Good martinis. The portobello frites had too much breading and were too salty. They seemed to me to be a frozen product. The ham ,fig, and goat cheese Flatbread was really good. I got the scallops which were medium sized and fresh each sitting on a little bed mashed potatoes with bacon crumbles. Two smears of carrot puree were on each side of the plate. The dish was way over salted and the carrot puree had a stale flavor. $32 dish! My partner had the pork entree. In this case too the dish was ruined by too much salt. Good recipe ideas, fresh seafood ruined in the preparation. Not acceptable at this price level. read more

The restaurant is beautiful inside. The art and the colors inside are very welcoming. We had lunch and there were 6 of us. We had Francoise as our server and he was excellent, friendly and efficient. We all enjoyed our lunch and the flavors were magnificent. I had the watermelon salad followed by the chicken pesto and every bite was scrumptous. Not sure why all the poor service reviews. In reading them the complaints seem easily dismissible, in my opinion. If people only go out on Valentine's Day they should expect many-many other just like them also out and it can be akin to guest-amateur-hour for a restaurant. The vast majority of reviews are rightfully 5-star. For our experience our server "V" was excellent and spent time chatting with us about Next Bistro's history, Chef Ying, and a bit about his own background. (We also witnessed another server being very cordial and attentive.) The food was very good. We had the Burnt Belly Bites (amazing) and Crab Cakes for appetizers. My wife had the Ying's Mongolian Crispy duck, which she said was very good but she probably wouldn't go for it again. I had the Bacon-Wrapped Smoked Georgias Bank Scallops, which were also very good but like my wife think I would like to try another dish next time. The décor struck me as perhaps a bit 1950's-ish (not meant in a bad way, and very clean and organized) upon entering but those thoughts quickly melted away with the great service and food. We will definitely be back to try more on the menu, which is quite interesting. read more

This small restuarant in Colleyville is a such a sweet surprise. We visited for our third time tonight and was served by the handsome Francois. What an excellent server! I hightly recommend the escargot appetizer, which is totally different from your traditional fare. Servied with spinach, parmesan, cherry tomatoes, and a light cream sauce, you'll enjoy it very much. Our first impression when we walked in was the odor. We could smell a faint odor of sewage coming from the bathrooms, which are right by the front door. We were seated in the back room behind the bar and were uncomfortably cold the whole time. The back room feels disconnected from the rest of the restaurant. The menu (and restaurant in general) suffers from forced formality. We were hoping for a friendly Italian dining experience but had to choose from an expensive menu, without the benefits of free bread or salads with entrees. There was no salt or pepper on the tables, and the chairs were hard and uncomfortable. We probably won't go back. Too bad, because it is close by and we had high hopes. read more

My husband and I finally had an evening with no kids, so we decided to try this spot. The interior is small, but cozy and has a nice atmosphere. We ordered the Chilled Artichoke and Crab appetizer. It was beautifully presented, but for my taste, there was an overwhelming onion flavor -- chopped onion in every bite. Too much for me, but my husband liked it. For dinner, I ordered the ravioli special -- four cheese and spinach. The entrees are served in these giant pasta bowls with truffle oil drizzled over the sides of the bowl. My ravioli was not hot, not even warm, and it was undercooked. Waiter graciously offered to bring me something else. I ordered the fettucini. Basil flavor was very strong, but it was good. My husband ordered the grilled chicken dinner. Again, presentation was beautiful, but the chicken portion was so small it looked like it came from a Cornish game hen. We decided against dessert, and we didn't have any wine. Bottom line--the kitchen takes great care with the visual appeal of the food here. I don't think it will become a regular place for us. I hope they do well - the restaurant business is very fickle. read more

the owners, Ying and Tom Atkins, have developed a great place; however, the state road construction on 26 is going to make things difficult, not only for Next, but for the other places along 26. Patrons need to be more supportive during this pertiod--we really want such places to succeed--even though, apparently the City and State don't care! read more
