What a quaint place! I've never eaten at La Bistro before, but look forward to going again. The owner told me they have there for 42 years, where have I been? Good question! I had the Chicken La Bistro - delicious. The only thing I will do different next time is no red sauce because I want the sauce from the chicken. My boyfriend had Chicken Cordon Bleu, which was different because of the brown gravy and mushrooms on top. He loved it! We also had 2 desserts - Cheesecake and the Lemoncello Cake. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, it was clear we were in for a fine dining experience. The dim lighting and piano near the entrance created a very elegant atmosphere. It was also nice seeing the owner present and making sure everything was running smoothly. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated quickly. Our server, Adam, was excellent very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the Crab & Shrimp Stuffed Avocado appetizer, which was good. For entrées, we ordered the Chilean sea bass and the dry-aged NY strip. The sea bass was delicious, and the NY strip was packed with flavor. We also tried the Filet "On the Rock," which was a really unique experience. The steak comes uncooked, and you cook it yourself on a hot rock at the table. It was interactive, fun, and the meat tasted great. The only downside of the visit was the dessert portions when we ordered them to-go. The lemon pie and tiramisu were both much smaller than expected for the price. Other than that, everything about the experience was excellent, and we really enjoyed our visit. read more

Third visit in just the last two months after a number of years away. LaBistro is killing it. The food is as good as or I think maybe even better than 35 or 40 years ago. And as we're now 35 or 40 years older we now share a dish and the kitchen beautifully plates it separately at no extra plate charge. This, people, is how you run a patron oriented class operation. We tried to get a reservation to help support flood victims in the Hill Country. They were fully booked for the 4 days they were donating everything. We made reservations tonight to support them in their effort. They had a donation bucket to continue collecting. This is a good date restaurant with low lights and romantic music. A good product at a premium price. Food was good enough to warrant 5 stars, but the service was disappointing. Without going into too many details, the waitress did not know the menu, was absent minded on the order and asked if we wanted dessert several times, including after the check was received. The ambiance is a bar/lounge vibe, which could be enjoyable. However bringing the family felt very out of place. With an understanding this is a $30-50 a plate date night spot, and that service can vary per server, I debated between 3-4 stars and chose the later as I like to encourage local spots rather than discourage. read more

Came here on Valentines Day with a reservation and had to wait over an hour past our reservation time. A previous poster had a similar experience and were lucky they left. We waited it out and eventually got a table. Had really mediocre food at their sky high fixed valentines menu. Each couple had to share an appetizer. We ordered small crab cakes that were barely cooked and did not appear fresh. The soup was lukewarm and filled a quarter of the bowl. An entree was not placed correctly and person had to wait an additional 20 min after everyone got their meal. The lobster ravioli looked to be store bought and must have been sitting under a lamp for a long time. Was extremely gummy and the sauce had a film over it. Overall I understand about how busy Valentine's Day is to restaurants, but never getting the ice tea that was ordered, waiting 15 min to get a napkin that was repeatedly asked for, getting water for only half the table, and numerous other miscues make a bad experience more horrible. I am not sure how they have been in business so long. Overpriced and over hyped! read more

This has been one our new go to! The ambiance is authentic, the people are genuine and engaging... creating top tier service. The food.... Oh my... the food. My family is German-Italian... we brought my brothers in laws here who are from Italy. And they were WOWED. This is mid-cities BEST KEPT SECRET. And by far... the best filet and the best gravy (pasta sauce). I've been here three times now since my nieces birthday in September... and I have never been disappointed. Over Christmas, they had live piano music. We were loud, singing a long and it was welcomed! The pianist even came over to the table to talk with us. Just a magical place!! read more

What a great gem. La bistro has everything I could possibly ask for. The ambience,service and food is outstanding. We took a dear friend out for her birthday and we had Ali as our server. It was a Thursday night so it was not crowded. Garlic bread and a cup of homemade chicken noodle soup started my evening while my wife had the salad with the house dressing. "Filet on a rock" is a unique experience. The beautiful filet is served with potatoes and fresh vegetables. My wife was in charge of cooking the filet on the 900 degree stone while I shared my lasagna entree with her. Circling back to the server Ally. Ally was the hit of the evening. It's rare today to find good old fashioned service. Ali had us laughing all night. We ended the evening with a birthday cake celebration. The "Filet On The Rock" has always been our draw to this quaint dining experience. Now we have a great server Ally to make it even more over the top special. read more

After too long of an absence we had a wonderful night at La Bistro. We sat at the bar and started off with the fried cheese ravioli which was perfect. Light and crispy. For dinner we had the lobster bisque, a Caesar salad, the minestrone, and the lasagna. All were excellent. The bar staff and members of the owner's family we chatted with were engaging and clearly value the nearly 40 years of patronage from the local community. We have been dining here for 30 years and have always had great food and amazing service. Made reservations 2 months in advance for Valentines Day at 630. We arrived and there was a line to get in. Owner stated there was a computer issue in the kitchen, and they were running about an hour behind. We decided to wait it out and were thankful we did. The owner was very apologetic and was handing out Champagne to those in line. The food was great and the service was as well and were very apologetic about the wait. To the asshole who did wait, got their food, complained about the wait and refused to pay, refused to shake the owners' hand when he tried to make it right and then left with the leftovers - Screw you and I hope your engine blows up in your car and you get food poisoning from your wife's cooking. You are a worthless piece of crap. Treating good people that way shows your character. read more

We were excited to try La Bistro after years of hearing so many great things. We had a reservation for 7pm on Valentine's Day...which obviously is a very busy night and I would expect a little extra delay. When we arrived there was a line probably 50 people deep...all with reservations. The person at the front of the line was already 1.5 hours past their reservation time and still waiting, so all of the couples at the back of the line just started leaving not willing to wait. If you are unable to handle reservations you shouldn't take them. So many people chose to dine here on a special night and you left all of those people without a place to eat. No one even came out to apologize for the huge inconvenience or anything. Guess we won't be trying La Bistro after all. Two thumbs down for this experience. read more

Quality food, Service and atmosphere. Don't judge a book by its cover because walking in here feels like you've traveled back in time to a more classy time. I had the privilege of meeting the manager while here during my anniversary and the experience was wonderful. After knowing I was there for my anniversary the servers made the experience all the more special with their kind words and offering to help take pictures ect. Sorry for the bad picture, the place is very dark inside. Perfect ambiance for a date night. The food was good too, but expensive. I've had cheaper Italian food that is just as good. I will say I didn't realize the place was as fancy as it was. I was wearing jeans and a hoodie. But this place gets 2 stars because of the service. It seemed like the people that "looked" like they had more money and dressed nicer were waited on more frequently. I had to call people to our table to get things. For example, they were offering others grated Parmesan on their food. They didn't bring any to us with our food, so I had to flag someone down and ask for it. We just felt forgotten. read more

Dining with our close friends as a Valentine's tradition, we had a terrible experience. I have been going to La Bistro for over 35 years. The food and service has always been good. It's a unique place and "old school." Based on this experience, we will never step foot in La Bistro again. Our reservation was at 6:00pm. The hostess said they had too many tables of two come beforehand and now there would be a 20 minute wait. After 50 minutes, we were finally sat. We sat there for 30 minutes at least before we had any service. We actually never had a waiter. We had 4-5 different people help us, but we had to order drinks 3 times before we actually got a drink. No one followed through and when you did have someone, you better hurry, because they would rush you. We rarely saw wait staff. One nearby diner told us unsolicited to be sure to ask for anything you need well beforehand or you wouldn't have it before finishing your meal. We finally ordered and even with a set menu, they still messed up. After bringing out the appetizer, they brought out the entree and skipped the salad. They took our entrees back and then brought the salads. Much much later, we received our entrees. My wife's chicken marsala was cold. I had the rock steak (which you cook yourself on a really awesome salt stone) was the best thing of the evening. Meat was high quality, but the vegetables that came with it had the texture of pre-frozen vegetables. Cheesecake was so so. Dry and a little flavorless. We waited and waited for the check. The man, who I have always assumed is the owner, waited on us a few time, but was never polite or helpful. There is really no excuse for this restaurant to mess everything up so bad. They obviously overbooked the restaurant. For what reason, I do not know. But with a pre-set menu in which many of the times are pre-prepared, none of the delays made any sense. Worse, they didn't seem to even care. By the way, it was $79.95 per person. read more

The greeter said waiting time is 45 minutes with reservation because she admitted they overbooked. OT policy is imminent seating. For a restaurant in business 38 years & they can't count (go back to math classroom), not care too. Management ghosted our request .Patrons flowed through every moment in the sardine size lobby, little light, even an employee was rude to spouse to shut dining door connected to sardine size lobby by saying, "I need to close this door for our table customers are cold from outside air, you need to move", no please or excuse me. We are so excited to have finally tried La Bistro. There's a reason they've been in business 38 years! We were craving Italian but just wanted take out. My husband loves chicken Marsala but it's not on everyone's menu. We ordered the Marsala, a chicken piccata, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, calamari and garlic bread w cheese and tomatoes. Everyone loved their entrees, and they traveled well too. An older man helped me when I arrived, and a younger man (son maybe?) chatted while I sat briefly at the bar waiting. He told me how long they had been there. On a Monday night, it was kind of quiet, but the room was beautiful and cozy, with red walls, retro photos and pressed tin ceilings. Definitely a date night vibe with some soft jazz in the background. Can't wait to experience again in person! read more

This family shows up in this neighborhood in 1983, when the largest number of their neighbors were of the bovine species. The city itself didn't really become a city until around 1952 when two different aviation things began to bring people to/thorough the city. Without them, it's anyone's guess what might exist here by today. I found them about 1992, and was overwhelmed with their excellence. It's a family owned business, and run by the family in that almost everyone in there is related to each other. When you come in you're going to be dazzled with their dining room, and attention to detail. All of their tables will be prevoiusly set up, including drinkware, silverware, napkins and all appropriate items. They will remove what is not needed for empty seats. They claim to be Italian, but their menu is very diverse, and full of things not normally found in traditional Italian eateries. For those things that don't fit well, they serve a side of spaghetti with meat sauce that can be substituted for any other pasta the guest would like. Their portioning is so generous, to serve a side of spaghetti is really not needed, as it's unlikely any adult is going to finish all they are served. They serve some kind of toasted bread for the table that appears to be French to me, but I'm no chef. I just know that of the countless visits to patronize these people, I've never had a complaint, and never sent even one dish back to the kitchen for correction. Your host is Sid and family, who is there almost all of the time, talking with his customers, and making sure of the quality being served. I don't care one thing for alcohol, but they do have a full bar, and in the evenings they will have someone in there playing their baby grand piano. The outside of this place is almost deceptive compared to what the guest will find inside. It's just an honest family making a living selling excellence for the past XX years. The ownership is getting old, and has cut out the lunch hours, and they are missed. The number of hours they have put into building a reputation are mind boggling to think about. So, if it's not obvious, I'm a huge fan of the place, and I'd recommend them to anyone. I can only eat there as a treat, else I'd be too big to get through the door, and probably have diabetes to boot. It's a place for a treat, such as taking a date out, or a family gathering. It isn't noisy, and you can comfortably speak to other guests in your party without having to strain. read more

Valentines evening disaster. Arrived at 6:20P for Reservations of 6 people @ 630P. We checked in and the friendly hostess told us it would be 30-40 minutes before seating. We were a little taken back, but the restaurant was packed and not many of the tables had their food. Something was amiss. Our party worked our way to the bar and 3 of us ordered a glass of wine, one a beer and two ordered a bottle of wine to start. The three received their glasses of wine, one, their beer and it took the 4th choice of wine bottles they were able to fill 30 minutes later with a great bottle of Camus 50 year Anniversary Edition. We had great conversation with another party of 6 who had 7P reservations. We were patient and trying to make the best of the circumstances. We were watching the tables and one person in our party noticed a table of six opening up and went back to the front to check back in when a party of four walked in and went straight to the table of six and sat down. Swing and a miss! You could see the look of panic on the hostess' face, but they must have been regulars, so she said nothing and hence we remained optimistic and stayed at the bar for our second and third glass of wine. 90 minutes after arriving for our 630P reservations, the hostess came back to the bar area and asked the group assembled who had 6, 630 or 7 o'clock reservations. No one with 6P answered and our party of 6 raised our hands for the 630P spot. We were then told it would be another 15-20 minutes before seating. I was ready to punt and grab some drive thru fast food at this point, but in the grand scheme of things, we were All In and what else could go wrong. Well, it did! After being seated an hour and forty five minutes late, we were served water and made our drink orders. Twenty minutes after seating, one in our party had to find our waitress to place our order. Fixed menu for the evening and rest assured there was no hesitation in what we all decided for our choices. Four of us chose the crab cakes and two ordered the chicken based appetizer. Could it possible bet go south from here? YES. Our appetizers arrived about 10-15 minutes literally ice cold. Not room temperature, but ice cold. I won't spare you with the details on how the appetizers ended up back on the plate, but they ALL did. I the initiated my waiving of the white flag and was punting. I was done, my wife was done, our friends were done. At this point we could have walked out. However, our bar service kept telling us to just tell our server what we All ordered on the honor system and they would charge us accordingly. Well, we just did that. My wife's and my bill for wine at the bar at the bottle of Meiomi Pinot Noir for the table was $113.99 before tip. Our friends who ordered the Camus + drinks at the table was $200+ and the third couple with wine/beer at the bar and table was close to $100. We graciously paid our tab, in good faith, at the bar and left La Bistro with empty stomachs and nothing great to say about our dining experience. They processed our bills and payments and apologized over and over. So, here we are. I truly do not think this was the norm, as they have been in business for years, but as my wife and I sit today, we will pass on another chance to experience what I think most people truly enjoy as a dining experience. Good luck to the owners and staff at La Bistro, but we will choose to sit the next one out on the opportunity to dine at this establishment. read more

Amazing food, amazing staff. The stuffed mushrooms and beet/mozzerella appetizers are to die for. Everyone's food was beautifully plated- the salmon and lamb chops looked phenomenal. Had bites of the cheese ravioli, chicken marsala, and I think it was called sunrise chicken (chicken in a sun dried tomato sauce). Everything exceeded my expectations, can't wait to go back.
