My friend and I came here last Saturday night for dinner. It was both our first times. I only go to glatt kosher restaurants with her since she is glatt kosher and she said it was her favorite restaurant compared to the other fine dining restaurants we have been to. We sat inside. The decor was cool/funky. We shared the bluefin tuna sashimi which was amazing and very fresh highly recommend it. We each got the burger with zaatar fries and it was the best burger we thought compared to other glatt kosher restaurants. We definitely will come back and even maybe on a Thursday night when they have a DJ. Spoke to the manager to voice our concerns and he defends the action of his waiter claiming they had to store dishes there. Still not an excuse for them to be thrown so recklessly. Fattoush salad was fine but I thought the olive oil was a bit overpowering the salad We got one salmon and one tuna sushi rolls (8 pieces each) No a first rate sushi grade either, my salmon tasted fishy and I bought a Tuna sushi in farmers market in Calabases it had better color & taste than the one we had here. I also had to remind and argue with the server that we only got one of the rolls and not both.. By this time we were sitting there almost an hour. At 7:10 I asked him if the hamburger is not out in to cancel as we are late to another meeting and he said no it is ordered and it will be a minute. I asked for bill at that time and the hamburger came in at 7:35pm so basically he put the order in when I asked him to cancel! The hamburger was good.. When paying the bill he put his tip under 25% ! The place is also very laud, and slow in serving. Not sure the raving review I read below, fake I'm thinking, and if not fake or their friends, for sure that have not had a good sushi, food or know what good service is all about! I came to see a doctor sandwich next door and stumbled on this place called Next Door. Next door to Next Door is Dr. Sandwich. Still, despite being called Dr. Sandwich, there is neither a doctor named Sandwich nor a postgraduate level culinary chef or engineer specializing in sandwich. Below I have including the definition of sandwich. About Next Door : The food is terrific. The atmosphere is also EXCELLENT. People and staff top notch. The Metal dishes they serve you sauce in double as a percussion instrument. You see a nice diversity of Jews! It feels like summer nights in Jerusalem's Ben Yehuda street, running into all the people you know from LA but didn't know they are in Israel, but you end up hitting off and being much closer there than here in the states. MUST GET ITEMS : Cuban Cigars, Gazpacho, their deserts and the sashimi. I think it is the green dish. The parking people don't like their gate opened and closed. I don't know why, but that's the case. Though, I strongly recommend you open and close the gate. The Sandwich Sandwich is generally any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type. Kosher or not, this mark this place for great food and a welcoming service with an upbeat atmosphere. We are not kosher and have no dietary restrictions but choose to go here ,simply because the food is executed with fresh combinations and a modern twist. We feel welcomed every time we set foot here. We have tried many items on the menu but the menu is revolving and fresh items are introduced so it's not a dull menu. We have tried the Kale salad, the Ahi Tuna, the ground meat Cigars, the Tomato salad, The turnips, the whole grilled Branzino, the succulent ribeye, chicken skewers and more. Next door! So this is exciting! Really beautiful how they redid this place. A little while ago I was just eating shawarma and falafel back here. The situation is certainly upgraded. Love the comfortable seating and open kitchen concept. The place is called "Next-door" because it is literally sharing a wall with Dr. Sandwich, where incidentally, you can get some of the finest Shawarma and falafel in LA. They have a bit of a celebrity chef, Adir Cohen formerly of Herbert Samuel in Israel. Looks like they are going for an upscale Mediterranean-Asian fusion. Started off with a crisp Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc from France. You need to eat your greens and I highly suggest the baby kale salad with white cabbage and a very unique house made miso tahini dressing. A little on the sweet side, and the Sauvignon Blanc really balanced it out. There is going to be, of course, some form of sushi but they really went next level here. The yellowtail carpaccio is simply gorgeous with tomato, dill, shallots, cilantro, and a really nice vegan yogurt as well as sumac to round it out. Fresh and delicious, and unlike any that I've tasted before. The other nice fish appetizer is the bluefin tuna sashimi. Super fresh avocado, and what really blows this dish out of the park is the jalapeno truffle sauce. Those flavors burst out in your mouth. My experience with kohlrabi is in the wonderful chicken soup my wife makes for Friday night. Tonight I experienced it in a really special way. Like I always say, anyone can throw a steak down on the grill but it's really impressive when the chef takes some simple produce and makes a star dish out of it. They had this kohlrabi special on a base of tzatziki and spices which was just phenomenal. Kind of like a potato, cooked to a perfect consistency with pinenuts, tomato salsa, and other deliciousness. Talking about soup, they had a phenomenal soup special. Very seasonal, Jerusalem artichoke with chestnuts, lima beans, mushrooms, and truffle. It's a chilly night here in LA and this was perfect. Everyone is making a meat cigar today, but this may be the finest I've had to date. The cigar itself is made with the lightest crispiest dough and the filling has a mix of beef with chicken liver that is just sublime. Very nice dip with tahini and schug. I guess you can call it kind of a pallet cleanser, but we enjoyed a really clean fattoush salad with vegan labane, and nice zaatar seasoning, the freshest tomatoes, and what they are calling, "lost bread" for a great crunch. They have a great cocktail program here and for something really special and unique you might want to try the Ras El Garden. This has vodka, rum, pineapple, lime, and what really makes this unique, a blend of Mediterranean spices called Ras El Hanout. Wow! If you're into cocktails definitely try this out. A little bit lighter is the "Sagapo" with arak, lime and pomegranate. Very nice! I love me a good gnocchi and the mushroom gnocchi did not disappoint. The gnocchi itself is soft and pillowy with that perfect texture, with mixed mushrooms, chestnut, sage, and some truffle to elevate the whole situation. Ragu fettuccine was just what the doctor ordered with slow cooked short ribs, tomato sauce, and leeks which gave it a slight sweetness. This is comfort food, truly elevated! For the main event we went with the lamb chops. Something special! Perfectly prepared with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and unctuousness on the inside. The demi glace and Jerusalem artichoke cream was an explosion of flavors. Apparently this is common in some neck of the woods but I've never had stuffed onion. With rice and ground beef it can definitely be a great dish on its own but serves as a perfect side for the luscious lamb chops . Wasn't easy but we made some room for dessert. Glad we did! The kadaif was spectacular with two layers of whipped Malabi cream surrounding the crispy shredded fillo dough in the middle. This all sits in a pool of strawberry Chia sauce which came together beautifully. Just the right amount of sweet. For the grand finale, "chocolate cigars". If you're a chocolate person you're going to be in heaven. It's the same heavenly crispy cigars from before, but this time with a chocolate peanut filling. As if that's not enough you have a great Caramel toffee sauce to dip into. Amazing! Run don't walk! This is a fantastic addition to the LA dining scene, here on Beverly Boulevard. I can't count how many times I've gone to a well reviewed "hot spot" only to find mediocre food and service. This is not the case with Next Door! Every aspect of the dining experience was 5 stars. The vibe here is also ultra positive, no doubt due to everyone being so happy with their food! Next Door prices might seem high to some, but relative to the quality you're getting, it's close to a bargain.
