Not only was I (and have been blown away) by the burgers here. Hey, I observe meatless Mondays. But this time, I was blown away by the service here. It was my born day. A call for a celebration. Had been to Next Level Burger in the East Bay when they first opened when I lived in Oakland yet this was a first time to visit NLB in the City. Went w/ a friend to celebrate the occasion. We are both vegan & excited to see so many plant based options of classic American cuisine here gone vegan. A few welcome new additions to the menu since I last went to NLB in the East Bay. We shared a large order of baked organic skin-on sweet potato fries. My friend went w/ a small hand-spun & house-made peanut butter cup shake w/ combination of half soy & half coconut. I tried it & was yummy. I went w/ the artisan Signature burger that was organic mushroom & quinoa patty, organic avocado, smoked gouda vegan cheese, & garlic thyme mayo served w/ organic lettuce & organic tomato served on a sprouted seven grain bun. For those who don't mind not to keep it not sattvic organic red onion is available upon request. The veggie burger was quite alright. As enjoyed it & loved that it was fully loaded like the Velvet Underground w/ heaps of yummy toppings. My friend went w/ the Vegan Chili Cheeze Dog that featured a beyond brat, organic house-made chili, melted cheddar style vegan cheese, vegan sour cream, & organic green onions. She enjoyed it! We both enjoyed our innovative creative vegan fare yet we couldn't finish the sweet potato fries. All in all made an enjoyable birthday feast. The Maverick Burger is where it's at. It's a Beyond Burger with fake bacon, fake American cheese, real onion rings, and this sauce combination that tastes like sweet BBQ sauce. I always have them remove all the vegetables so I can enjoy the pure (fake) carnivore experience of it. I haven't had a real beef burger in months because this is so good. Then I pair it with the excellent tater tots. The secret here is to dip them in the garlic thyme mayo. It's insane. One thing I can't necessarily recommend are the shakes. They lack the true milkshake consistency and the coconut soft serve base has a noticeable coconut taste. Not that they're bad at all, just not really what you would expect from a "milkshake". First time eating at NLB. I have to say it was very good. It's a little pricey but you can expect that in the city and the Quality food they have. I had the Crispy Chik'n Patties served on a Sprouted Seven Grain Bun topped with Organic Guacamole, Pickled Jalapeños, Organic Tempeh Bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese, Organic Jalapeno Hot Sauce and Egg-Free Mayo with a side of fries. We got the Maverick burger and I highly recommend trying it. As for the special fries, it may be better getting regular fries with different sauces on the side. read more

My roommate and I ordered delivery from here after she said she loved this place. She's a vegan, I am not, but I really like vegan food and tend to eat it often! We split two burgers- the Classic Chzburger ($10) and the Crispy Chik'n Burger ($10). I didn't really like the cheeseburger as the patty definitely had an after taste, but I enjoyed the chicken one a lot more. We also got the Special Style Fries ($9)- We decided to get them baked (to make us feel a little better about ourselves haha), but that might have been a mistake as they were super soggy. I also felt like there was too much cheese, but the special sauce was good! I had ordered the Cookies N' Cream milkshake ($7.25 for a small + $1 whip cream) with Soy Milk, but they gave me the wrong one- Strawberry. I tried it, but I did not like it at all. I felt the strawberry taste was super artificial. My roommate got the Peanut Butter Cup, which I tried and it was SO much better. I loved the peanut butter chunks in it, but definitely a heavy drink and can get overly sweet. Not sure if it was worth the $1 for a small amount of whipped cream, but it was tasty. Next level burger really makes it easy for us non-vegans trying to be vegans. I loved their signature burger! It tasted so healthy and fresh and was actually quite filling. The organic mushroom and quinoa patty tastes nothing like meat FYI so don't expect it to but it had a unique flavor that complemented the rest of the burger well. Their milkshakes are offered with either soy or coconut milk (I chose soy), and did NOT disappoint. So creamy and delicious!! Could not even tell it wasn't made with dairy. Not sure if it's busier at different times, but it was empty around 4pm on a Friday. I ordered a Signature Burger and a small Mint Chip Shake. Was excited to find another Vegan place in the city and the reviews looked good. I liked this place but I wasn't wowed by it. I might try it again though for some other burgers. I had Blue BBQ burger - Added grilled onions to it. The burger was rather small for the price and would not be enough for a meal by itself for an average adult in my opinion. I did not get any distinct flavor from the patty itself, but the sauces were good. Golden Milk milkshake - Was decent, had a hint of turmeric, as you would expect from something named "Golden Milk" . They give you the extra leftover ice cream after the milk shake is made Bacon Shroom Fries - This is a nice idea, but the quantity of mushrooms and onions and cheese is very less and not enough for the amount of fries and the cost. However one other reason for my low rating of this place is that I wish, a Vegan establishment which also had many environment friendly slogans as part of their decor, followed better environmental practices and trained their employees to do so as well. I was served water in a paper cup, even though they had glass containers available. I saw that they include napkins and utensils , by default in every to go order and I wish they would ask customers if they needed them. I never take these items if I am going to eat my food at home later and I am sure many other patrons would not need them either. I had ordered the fries to go which was given in a paper with the napkins and utensils. I did not need any of that, so I took out the box of fries and returned the bag as is to one of the employees, so that they may reuse it for the next customer. The burger was SO good, even though it was transported 30 minutes! The patty needed a little more seasoning, but all of the rest of the flavors really brought together the meal! The new beyond chicken was so so good! I didn't love the garlic thyme Mayo but it tastes exactly like it sounds. I got some tater tots with the burger and these were really yummy and crisped up in the oven nicely once they got a little soggy. I was fantasizing about a hot dog during an offsite meeting and decided to get my fix at Next Level Burger, a 100% plant based burger joint before heading back to the office. I'm a carniwhore but a true test of any good vegan meal is if the meal leaves me satisfied and not missing the real thing. Next Level Burger achieved that and more. I was super impressed at how delicious the food was and am salivating about my next meal there... On the menu are burgers with a variety of patties (Beyond Burger, "meaty", quinoa & chia, black bean, umami mushroom, etc), hot dogs, salads, sandwiches, fries (baked or fried), loaded fries, and shakes (soy or coconut soft serve). There's several In-N-Out inspired items like "The Animal" Burger and "Animal Style" Fries. Buns are wheat or whole grain (gluten-free available). Kid's meals available. As with most things in SF, it's a bit pricey. Expect to spend about $20 pp for a burger/hot dog + 1 side, $30 pp if you want a shake. With the high quality, organic ingredients used, I thought it was worth it. The salad was slightly overdressed but it had great layers of flavors (tart and sweet) and crunchy textures from the pomegranate, cashews, and pepitas. Next Level Burger is a full service restaurant but you can also order to go. Service was friendly and upbeat, especially the manager that was full of positive vibes. They had a great selection and Jared was super helpful walking me through the menu and ordering process. It's pretty straightforward to order but it was nice having someone let me know the best go to items and staff favorites. He even gave me a small sample of the ice cream they use for their shakes and it was amazing! Jared recommended the soy ice cream and oh my god he was not wrong. It was super rich and creamy. I could've skipped the shake and just eaten it by itself. Overall a really great experience. Really great food and really great service. Wouldn't have known about this place without the Yelp Elite event week. Upon entry, the place was bright and inviting. The decor is refreshing and made me smile. And I give it to the ONE guy that is running thr whole thing. He welcomed us, took care of the take-out AND looked like he was cooking and prepping the food. For a Monday, this place got busy. After we arrived there were already 2 other pickups and 4 other people ordering. As we are waiting for our food, we can see the food being prepped and packaged. Everything is coming out steaming HOT! Wooohooo We got the signature burger and the ORANGE CREAM shake with a choice of SOY or Coconut. I chose Coconut. And the shake did NOT disappoint. Refreshing without the heaviness and the "guiltiness". The burger was good. I was a veggie burger but not like the ones you taste when we had it when we were younger. It had more flavor to it and the bun and the fixings down. Avocado but didn't have to pay extra? Yes please. We were sooo impress with the drink and we saw the fries that everyone came in to get, we had to try! We got an order of the Classic Crispy Chik'n & Fries with the Garlic Thyme Mayo Sauce. I've been eyeing the opening of Next Level Burger since the initial announcement of them joining us Californians here in San Francisco! I'm no stranger to a great veggie burger. In fact, we have some amazing options that exist across the bay already. So how is an outsider going to compete? By keeping the menu all American classics, but with ingredients that are organic and clean, and still keeping the flavors bold and customizable. Attached to the Whole Foods in Potrero Hill, NLB features an all-white design with sparks of orange and red, their signature colors. The white flushes the restaurant out too much, but it doesn't really matter. It is a bit confusing when you first enter: do you order at the counter? There seemed to be a line formed, but that was for people ordering to-go and picking up food. Turns out, you are able to sit down and a server will come around and take your order. That's a nice touch, I wish they made it a bit more obvious that it is a sit-down restaurant! The menu is expansive. There are so many options! Burgers, Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Salads, Desserts, Shakes, and even the Fries have its own section! So many variations and toppings to choose from, it is a welcoming overwhelming feeling. Luckily, the servers are knowledgeable and helped us out with a few recommendations and top sellers. We actually went for the off-menu special of the day! The Mushroom & Quinoa Patty Burger with cheese and 4 strips of veg bacon for only $10! What a steal! We rounded the meal with a milkshake and fries & tater tots. The burger came out STACKED. So much food for such a great deal! As for the taste? The patty did not taste like quinoa or mushrooms. It tasted savory and meaty. They seasoned it very well. It didn't taste like a vegetable patty but like an actual meaty patty. However, my biggest gripe is that the patty broke apart very easily. As soon as I picked it up, large chunks would fall apart. I quickly needed a fork and ended up eating a lot of it that way. Bummer. The fries and tots are standard, good and crisp. The shake is absolutely delicious! I went up to SF with a few vegan and vegetarian friends to see some live music and we stopped here first for dinner. I'm an easygoing omnivore so I'm always quite happy with whatever the group wants. Located inside Whole Foods, you can sit in the very brightly lit restaurant itself or in the WF bar area just outside the entrance. We opted for the second choice and ordered beer and wine to go with our meal. As an aside, the WF bar has a great beer selection but are pretty limited on wine. They also offer tea, coffee, and so forth. Service was friendly there as well. I had already eaten a very late and very big lunch so I wasn't that hungry but I ordered some tater tots to hold me over, knowing I'd probably end up starving later otherwise. Also because tots... duh. They were perfect... crispy outside and fluffy inside, and I liked that they offered baked options as well as fried. My friends really enjoyed their assorted burgers and sandwiches and the folks who live locally mentioned they frequent NLB all the time, they enjoy it that much. The burger patty was delicious. Reminds me of a Burger King patty from back in the day when I ate meat. Way better than a Beyond patty, so I don't know why folks would upgrade to that option. The burgers are reasonably priced compared to other veggie/vegan restaurant burgers. I impressed with how many cheese options there were. I went for smoked gouda which was scrumptious. The shake was really good. The small size option was way more than enough for one person. The peanut butter cup option tasted like chocolate chunks with ground up peanuts. I was hoping for more of a crushed Reese's taste. Still, it was good. I was impressed with the options, i.e. soy vs. coconut base soft serve. November is a cold month to order the shake though, especially if eating it outdoors! The shroom fries were good although pricey relative to the cost of their burgers. That's probably where they profit the most! The toppings were a bit too salty for my taste, but I enjoyed the dressing and tempeh bacon otherwise. The staff quickly had the order ready by the 15 minute ordered time. I was impressed! There is no option for outdoor dining and no tables outside of Whole Foods. There is a little ledge outside Whole Foods, which, if the staff and security guard are really nice will let you use. Otherwise plan on finding somewhere else to eat while indoor dining is not allowed. To avoid my mistake, do not Google this restaurant and follow Google's suggestion for "website". It took me to a third party site with a misleading URL. The site turned out to be affiliated with Grub Hub and charged a $2.50 surcharge for my take-out order! Grrr. I should've ordered directly from the actual restaurant's website (they'll text you when your order is ready!) or from Yelp (which says no fees). Lesson learned. read more

First timer at next level burger tonight and it was so good! I'll be back for sure. The menu is 100% plant based, aka vegan. We got smash burgers, fries, and a vanilla shake. All delicious! We ate in the restaurant and there were lots of comfortable seating options including bar stools, tables and chairs, and big booths. Clean restrooms. The staff are really friendly and seem happy. I will definitely be back at Next Level Burger. I got the strawberry shake made with coconut soft serve (as opposed to soy soft serve which is the other option) and it totally hit the spot. It took me back to my vegetarian days at In-N-Out with that strawberry shake. This one tasted much cleaner, which is perfect, because I would sometimes feel sick after eating at In-N-Out (grilled cheese + fries + strawberry shake). I got the classic cheeseburger with American cheese and it was good. My friend and I were concerned that we would be super full and not be able to eat a lot when we saw the protein and calories provided for all the menu items. However, once I got the shake, and then the cheeseburger and saw that it was pretty small, I knew I could definitely order some fries. I ordered the chili cheese fries in a sweet potato fry format. After eating it, I realized the chili cheese fries concept might be better on regular potatoes. I'm neutral about regular fries but always enjoy sweet potato fries way more so that's why I did it, but it was a little weird in terms of the combination. The sweet potato fries tasted better plain. The fries were a big order and I was only able to finish half so I took the other half home and ate it the next day. I was concerned that they might be super soggy but I microwaved them and ate them and they were okay. In fact, they tasted better to me the next day than when I ate them in the restaurant. I probably won't get chili cheese sweet potato fries again though, just regular sweet potato fries next time. Back to the cheeseburger - it definitely had a meaty barbecue taste, as I'm sure everything off the left column of the burger menu did. After my first bite, I thought that I would next time stick with the vegetable tasting burgers since I'm more familiar with those, but as I kept eating, this burger grew on me. I've been a vegetarian my whole life and turned vegan about a year ago, so I'm not super familiar with meat tastes and often don't like them anyways, which is probably why I didn't like the first bite of this. I do want to try more of their menu though so I'll probably try a burger off the right column of the burger menu next time. Oh, they also have hot dogs and desserts and other things. I unfortunately wanted to try everything but didn't have enough space in my something. Also sadly, this place is super pricey. I paid $30+ for my shake, burger, and fries. To the one guy working there when I arrived, I applaud you. He was calm during the chaos and still got to everyone that was there! I came in at 12pm on a Monday and there was just one other patron there. There was just 1 person working for those first couple hours of them being open and he had so many orders. This place got suuuuper busy after I got my food. The food was really good! I haven't tried many plant based options for burgers and this place has it all. The signature burger is a mushroom and quinoa patty. It also had lettuce, tomato, avocados and cheese. It was so tasty and the structure of the patty held up well. The fries were nicely seasoned. I like mine to be a little bit more crisp but they were still good. The milkshake is made with either soy or coconut soft serve. I got a classic vanilla with soy and it was so good! Everything at the new Next Level Burger located in the Whole Foods building in Potrero Hill is 100% plant-based (vegan), the prices are bougie, the atmosphere is laid back, yet they offer full table service. Stopping by for lunch, I was impressed by the Beyond Kraut Dog, a vegan hot dog, which came on a whole grain bun and was dressed to the brim with sauerkraut, pickled jalapeno, red onion, mustard, and ketchup. Wow, what an explosion of flavor and crunch! The dog was sweet, salty, sour, and slightly spicy all at the same time, and the sausage itself was "beyond" convincing as a meat substitute! Next, we also had the signature burger, which was not meant to be a fake meat burger, but just a really good veggie burger. It came on a 7-grain bun with a soft patty of mushroom and quinoa (the taste reminded me of tempeh), along with lettuce, avocado, and garlic thyme mayo. But the best part of this burger was definitely the vegan cheese (I opted for the smoked gouda), which was just so creamy, melty, and decadent! Yes, the food at Next Level is good, but you had better expect a high price point with this level of ingredient quality. So. Yummy. I've had both the Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger, but Next Level's savory meaty patty is my new favorite. I ordered the one with special sauce and American style cheese. It was so juicy and flavorful. Couldn't even tell that the "cheese" was vegan. My cousin tried the Beyond Burger and really enjoyed it too. The shakes were not my favorite, however. The vanilla coconut milkshake tastes only of coconut. And the orange cream soy milkshake tasted too artificially flavored. We got there an hour before closing, and everything went smoothly. Will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu! read more

My husband and I came for the Grand Opening. As we exited the parking garage to enter Whole Foods someone was handing out coupons and gave us a Free Shake coupon for the Grand Opening of Next Level. It was pretty busy when we entered the restaurant. An employee approached us and I asked if we wanted to eat in which line we should be in. He was carrying a tablet and happily took our name and told us we would be seated shortly. We were seated within 5-10 minutes. A waiter took our order and I ordered the chz burger with the meaty patty, smoked Gouda chz, special sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles. Although I've been eating mostly vegetarian/vegan foods for over 2 years this was my first attempt at eating a non-meat burger and it was really good! I also had the Cherry Shake made with cherry purée and soy ice cream. Sweet with small chunks of cherries, so yummy. My husband had the Animal, it was huge! He also had a chocolate shake and crinkle cut fries. He really enjoyed his food and was stuffed for the rest of the day! They were pretty organized for the first day and the crowd of people they were serving. We were impressed! This is the place to go for plant-based fast food! read more

Located on the side of Whole Foods Market, you'll find this cool spot that serves yummy Vegan food! This is the first Vegan place my boyfriend and I tried, and I'm glad we chose this place! We ordered the All American Burger, Crispy chicken sandwich, tater tots, and sweet potato fries. All American Burger: This was really good! The patty was similar to a regular burger patty and the texture was spot on. It had a special sauce, tomato, pickles, lettuce, and tempeh bacon. I wasnt a huge fan of the tempeh bacon because of the texture. But overall the sandwich was really good and I would get this again! Crispy Chicken: It sure was crispy! Flavors were also really good and on point. It was similar to a chicken patty as well. I love the lemon-herb mayo they use in the sandwich, it really pulled everything together. I added cheese, but I think it just fine without it. Tater tots and sweet potato fries were both a 5/5. We also tried their ranch sauce to go with the tater tots and it was good. Overall we enjoyed our meal, but it can get pretty pricey. Next time I plan on trying their milkshakes! read more

Epic vegan fast food joint! This gem is located on the ground level of the Whole Foods in Potrero Hill, and is one of the best vegan/vegetarian spots in San Francisco. Their shakes are our favorite and come in so many hard-to-find flavors like Cookies and Cream, Coffee, Peanut Butter Cup, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Orange Creamsicle. They have perfect onion rings and great creative burgers and chicken sandos. Highly recommend. read more

Since I tried the SoCal Burger and tater tots on my first visit, I would be trying one of Next Level Burger's artisanal milkshakes. It's easy to delve into strawberry or vanilla; therefore, I take it to the next level, just like I once did with the burger! This brand new year, I'm down and delightful to go even further into the same horizon where only some adventurous ones gone before. For my normal visit, I ordered a golden milk shake; made with real turmeric and a touch of coconut milk. Nothing was absolutely more satisfying than to have one that's anti-inflammatory for your health. Hopefully, there are milkshake specials around. Uji matcha could make a perfect fit! I'm glad Next Level Burger near Whole Foods retained a perfect 100! Staff members are doing their good job keeping their burger joint tidy for us patrons. Whether I'm in Portland Oregon or Austin Texas, plant based awesomeness is key to our health and for our planet. read more

Yessssss. Ever since visiting next level in Portland, I've been waiting for this day to come. Next Level has finally come to SF, and there's way more seating than the Concord location, yay! I can't think of anywhere else in the Bay Area to get totchos, which is a damn crime. And if you don't want to cross the bay bridge to get a decent milkshake, come here and get the chocolate peanut butter cup shake with whipped cream. But maybe share it with someone so you still have room for your food. I also like the music they played! read more
