AMAZING vegan burgers. I got the american chzburger and absolutely loved it. I also got a holiday sugar cookie shake, which was delicious but I probably wouldn't get it again. Flavorwise 10/10 but the cookie chunks were a little too big for the straw so they kept getting stuck and the texture of the shake could have been thicker (I got soy, not sure if coconut has a big difference). Burgers are a must try though, I would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu. The place is connected by stairs to a Whole Foods, and is pretty spacious with a clean bathroom. You order at the counter, either in person or just through a screen. The staff were really nice. They also have an app where you can collect points and earn rewards and such.

NEXT LEVEL BURGER is a non-meat experience in burgers! And is in the basement of the Whole Foods at 450 Rhode Island. Or walk in from the corner entrance of 17th & Rhode Island. From inside WF, Take the elevator down and exit to the right is NLB, a small, windowless but clean alcove. Check out the menu, counter staff is helpful w/questions. Pay and take a seat or take your order to go. Good amount of Takeout from this location. Ordered in: CLASSIC BURGER w/DOUBLE SMASH PATTY ($3 extra). The double gave me 35 grams of protein for those count! Added House special sauce. SWEET POTATO FRIES w/ORGANIC KETCHUP ($.75 extra). CLASSIC BURGER dressed w/lettuce, tomato, and onions, mustard, no mayo (preference), was huge with the double patties so maybe if you're not (I was) ravenous a single patty will do. Also had a house sauce. This was a juicy, smoky burger that did not have me missing meat. Only drawback was more than half way through, the bun was disintegrating a bit. They did toast the inside but may be a light toast on the outside would help. I'd order this again. SWEET POTATO CRINKLE FRIES were crisp and hot from the fryer! Well salted and great with the ORGANIC KETCHUP. Definite would order again. Overall NEXT LEVEL BURGER a good place for plant-based burgers! If back in the Design district, I'd be back to try the SIGNATURE BURGER, BLUE BBQ BURGER, FIRE OR CHIK'N BACON (Tempeh) RANCH BURGER See you there!

Simple, counter service is accessible via a touch screen or a person; the young woman working there was super friendly and helpful. It's clean inside, and there's plenty of seating... the booths are cozy. For food I ordered the fries with fake chicken and melted fake cheddar cheese, with added organic pickles and cooked onions; it comes with two sauces, and I chose buffalo with ranch which tastes great together. It's a bowl of yumminess, but I just wish there was more food! I was expecting more to come in the bowl. Delicious.

Really like this place! Fresh ingredients. Everything is organic. The lettuce is so crispy & crunchy. I didn't want something heavy but I ma big fan of burgers. Finally stumbled into this place and was blown away by the selections. I had the Maverick burger which is Impossible meat, onion rings, bbq sauce, special sauce, lettuce tomatoes and thee best dill pickles I've ever had on a burger. The person at the front took our order and was super attentive to the table bringing us what we needed as they noticed! I'm ready to be a repeat customer and start eating better this year instead of frequenting the other fast food burger spots!

It's helpful to use the app to see all your options for extras. Plus nice occasional BOGO deals. Great seasonal items --just one paper holder sign if you order in person. I wish their actual veggies burger would stay Support vegan restaurant

Next Level Burger is America's first 100 percent plant-based burger joint. I dedicated an entire trip to San Francisco to try this place for myself. I've had Plant Power Fast Food back in Los Angeles and that opened the doors for me to try more vegan fast food. I got myself the PubChz Burger ($15), the Fire Chik'n Burger ($11.50), a large Onion Rings ($8) with Ghost Pepper Ranch ($0.75), and the Small Organic Strawberry Shake with Soy Whipped Cream ($8). PubChz Burger (5/5) - Encompasses the heart and soul of quality bar food. It's a burger with pretzel buns and their special melted cheese. And I mean, *melted* cheese. Just look at the image I posted, and you'll see what I mean. You may not get out of this one without a few stains on your shirt. Sauerkraut was such a great addition. Somehow the right amount of salt and flavor with all of those ingredients put together. Fire Chik'n Burger (5/5) - It's spicy and the ingredients are fresh. Certainly has the edge over the Chic-Fil-A deluxe spicy burger, if that's even a fair comparison. Large Onion Rings (3/5) - It's nice to have onion rings that anyone can eat. Usually, onion rings contain buttermilk, and as a lactose-intolerant person, I accept my fate whenever I purchase this item. But let's not kid ourselves here about the size. 6 rings for $8 is outrageous. I honestly thought I got myself the small size until I looked at the receipt. Comes with BBQ sauce. Small Organic Strawberry Shake (4.5/5) - Yep, that is the signature strawberry we know and love! Smooth and creamy. Added a soy whipped cream to lean into the dessert identity, but the place can accommodate Hard to mess this one up. Friendly staff. Clean tables. KILLER sauce selection (seriously, they are worth trying out.) Well worth the drive. I will be back again whenever I'm in the area!

The food is amazing, fries, onion rings and tots are always crispy, I enjoy a variety of sandwiches, the app is awesome, rewards are great. Sauces are always on point on the sandwiches. I highly recommend! It's always clean the whole area. It's located at the bottom of Whole Foods. The staff is always friendly and happy. Has a great rewards app! 100% Organic vegan food

Tried Next Level's vegan burger recently and was very impressed.. now worried that this spot is dangerously close to my work lol. I think I'd go for their vegan burger over any other beef burger, and I'm no vegan.

Ask the Community - Next Level Burger

Are the new beyond chicken tenders available at this location?

We are currently out of stock. More is on the way! I'll try and update this question when we have more in stock.

Are their burger patties desperately (or successfully) trying to be like meat, or are the recognizably made of vegetables? I'm not interested in fake meats.

From what I remember, they offered two burger options: a Beyond Meat "meaty" patty prepared a special way; and a more traditional house-made veggie burger patty. I chose the Beyond Meat patty so I can't speak for the other one, but I'd recommend… Read more

They do have a black bean burger? Cause I love it

    They sure do!

Are the various burger patties house-made, or do they use something you get at the groceries stores?

Their burgers patties are made in house, and the ones I've had have been very different from anything that I've tried at the grocery store (even if whole foods has some pretty good ones).

Is there a San Francisco surcharge added (that is separate from the listed price for each item)? (Question updated after first answer)

Yup. I think pretty much every restaurant in SF has the 4% extra surcharge now...

This is the second place on this visit that's charging an extra 5% fee so that their employees can have a living wage and health insurance, which absolutely, every employee should have. With the prices they charge, they should already be able to do that, though. I read an article about this fee with many different names and I would rather pay a bit higher of a price and know the employees were taken care of than be surprised by this fee later. Two sandwich breakfasts, a mocha and a danish on top of tax and their healthy sf fee was $63. Steep for the quality we got. Won't be back.

All seating is bar style with high tables hence the name "Hardwood Bar." The food was okay and I'd much rather go to Fikscue if I'm feeling BBQ next time to be honest. We shared ribs and each of us got an entree. One of my friends often orders from here for delivery and was excited to try it in person so that the food would be hot. Surprisingly, our tri tip and brisket came out slightly cold so it wasn't that different from delivery... The ribs were okay and not the most tender. Our server was great and service was good despite the restaurant being relatively full and served by one person. What I find the most perplexing is how they calculate the "SF mandate" fee and sales tax. I'm local to SF so I'm used to restaurants tacking on this "SF mandate"/"SF healthy mandate" fee, but their calculations just seem a bit off (see receipt). If we're calculating this correctly, 4% of $130.40 should be $5.22 and 8.63% of $130.40 should be $11.25. If you include the SF mandate fee in the tax calculation, then the $11.74 is right (if you include their calculation of the SF mandate fee). I'm not going to argue over a 50 cents or so but it's the principle of it! They should definitively state the actual % of 4.35% they're charging instead of just stating 4%. I mean at scale -- it adds up right? It rubbed me the wrong way for sure.

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. Then they said "please don't move around so we can get the right food to you" which, like fine but that's not the reason they didn't want us to move. You're aiming for a hoity toity atmosphere, we can move plates around. There's an obnoxious but unenforced dress code (no jerseys then someone came in with a jersey and was as seated, no baseball hats...), but the straw that broke the camels back was when the hostess asked me to stay seated while I was seated. My 4 year old needed entertainment as we were paying the bill, we were in our last few minutes there and she told me that I had to stay in my seat. Which I was. They didn't get the order right for said 4 year old: hamburger, no cheese. Showed up with cheese. If you don't want kids in your restaurant, just turn people away.
