When we walked in the restaurant we were stared at instead of greeted. They looked at us like " what are you doing here?" We ordered a couple of burgers a couple of shakes and a salad. We were asked if we wanted a straw and I said yes because we were on the road. When we pulled out our food we had no fork. And regardless if we were on a road trip or not that is customary to to place the correct utensils for what we ordered. So that was very frustrating. So we first came here during Burger Week. I know what you're thinking, it's vegan AND it's a chicken sandwich, for BURGER Week?! That's what actually got us excited to try it. It is probably the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. So crisp, fresh, all with a great flavor. My partner was trying to get us to order milkshakes at that time but I was like "not now, we'll be back". And we have been. We did get shakes and they are super thick and delicious. My partner got a cookies and cream and added the mint chocolate sauce since he was torn between that and mint chocolate chip. He had the best of both worlds! As rich as they are the small was plenty for us. I was wanting to try the chili dogs because dogs are more my thing. My first thought was, dang the pictures make it look like a long dog, but if it's good, it's good. The hotdog itself is really thick so it goes a long way and all the toppings made it perfect. It was a hit for me. We've also tried burgers, which always satisfy, but once again my partner had a request so we also tried the Animal (chicken) and Maverick (burger). The Animal was huge and trying to split it made it near impossible to eat. Guess that means you need your own. Everything was always so tasty and fresh to us. It's not that we think a giant burger is going to somehow be magically healthy, it's that we wanted to find vegan restaurants. As a general rule we cook vegan at home and do whatever when we go out. We were hoping to add more vegan places to go for when we do go out, and this place was a hit. The place: Reminds me of a Qdoba or Chipotle. It's counter order, table delivered. At this location, if you're paying with a card you can order on a giant digital screen or choose to talk to a human. There's some bar style seating facing either a wall or out the front windows and a couple four tops. There's also a big community style table in the middle of the shop. The location: In a corner with a couple other businesses. Shares a parking lot, but we had no problem finding parking. The food: Spousifer and I split a signature burger and a large order of sweet potato fries then we each got our own shakes (blackberry for him, peanut butter cup for me). Double fried sweet potato fries are a revelation--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and so delightful. Half a signature burger was enough for me to get the flavorful burger and fresh toppings into my system. This was my first ever vegan shake, and I wouldn't have been able to tell except for the slightly floral taste to the coconut milk. This food was exactly what I needed after a long plane trip. The service: The novelty of ordering on shiny technology won me over, but the human service was a delight. When we shared we were splitting a burger, they graciously cut our burger in half. They also checked in on us and I wasn't kidding when I assured them our meal was "a dream come true." Next time: I need to try to vegan brat situation. My all American burger was supposed to have tempeh "bacon".. there was none. Other than that, it was a decent burger other than is was barely lukewarm when it arrived (this could very well be the delivery at fault though) overall it was ok. I realize I like impossible burger better but still not bad. Next my fries were super boring crinkle fries.. not well seasoned and very small for the price of them. Worst of all was indulging myself in the peanut buttter cup milkshake. It was in a very small cup and for over $5 I'd expect more but also I could only take a few bits. It tasted overwhelming with the coconut milk ( maybe I should have ordered the soy but usually like coconut milk so figured it would be good)... tasted like watered down milk with coconut flavor, and a barely sweet artificial sweetener taste for some reason (pretty sure it's sugar but that's how it tasted nonetheless).. I don't like very sweet things either but even for me it was pretty bland. So the burger itself (even without the "bacon" it was supposed to have) wasn't bad but everything else about my meal put me off....along with the price. I'm giving this place five stars in full consideration that it's fast food--so, no ambience to speak of, no frills, but absolutely delicious vegan alternatives to the typical fast food menu. Mostly we order through Grub Hub or Door Dash, and it ends up being pretty pricey, but everything my daughter and I have ever ordered we demolish. Pretty good for vegan fast food! Got the crispy chicken burger, chipotle burger, onion rings, normal fries, and fire fries. Onion rings were fantastic! Super crispy. Crispy chicken burger was also pretty good (patty has crunchy breaded crust - similar to Morning star patties). Chipotle burgers sauce was a bit overwhelming, but it is the only burger (to my knowledge) that is not a meat substitute patty (it's black bean based). Fire fries were pretty great, but normal fries were a little soft. Also, portions overall are really small; you definitely need at least a full burger and a side to feel full. The second on our list of vegan spots to hit all in one night, Next Level Burger also scored 4/5 because the price to portion ratio was unbalanced. If it didn't cost $15 for a burger and fries, you know I'd be coming here all the time. As it is, the high quality and freshness of the food are definitely going to lure me back. Probably the best part of this "fast food" experience was that every aspect of it felt so wholesome and clean. The air wasn't thick and sticky with grease fumes you get at McDonalds or Burger King. I'm excited by all their intriguing menu options (smoked Gouda on a burger! Organic sodas! Various fresh iced teas and lemonades! VEGAN MILK SHAKES!) and hope to return to try them all! Honestly, the bun was so good I'd consider just eating it on its own (ok, maybe with some special sauce to dip in). It's fluffy and dense, with a great grainy and nutty flavor. It's a bun you can count on to hug your ingredients firmly. The "Spicy Stacked Chikn" was our favorite. Though a long time meat eater, I couldn't tell the difference at all. The party was perfectly crisped! There was a decent but not overwhelming amount of spice, and the guacamole balanced it out perfectly. The "All American Burger" was also miraculously deceptive! The patty tasted so beefy! My only issue was that the bacon was too salty and the texture was off putting: chewy and dry, like eating beans that hadn't been properly boiled. Their milkshakes are so good! I have tried the chocolate, vanilla, and cookies and creme. The vanilla is by far my favorite. The burgers were a it soggy, however. I love Next Level Burger! I've eaten there many times. Love the signature burger, the garden hot dog, and the Cobb salad, especially. I'd have given NLB 5 stars were it not for the service they use for delivery: Postmates. For Postmates, I give 2 stars (and it'd be 1 if it were not for the fast and courteous delivery person). I don't see a way to review Postmates on Yelp, but I'll find other outlets to inform folks. Here's the issue: Wow. I just used the Postmates app for the first time. We ordered food that was $29.50. The service fee was $5.90. Then they added the delivery fee which was $5.99. The delivery guy was fast and courteous, so I tipped him 20%. So, with the $3 Twelve Days of Christmas discount, that's $46.07. Not cheap, but it was a splurge after a very long work week. Yet...I was charged $87.11?!? As a "temporary authorization hold" that can take "a few days to reverse." I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE. I was only expecting to pay $46.07. What if i only had $60-$70 in my account??? My bank would have dinged me with hefty overdrafts. Pretty crummy. And why such a steep holding fee? Well, I WON'T use this service again. I do not recommend it. It does not make clear these extra charges. They only get two stars for the delivery person and the food. Otherwise, it would have been one star. We have had delivery twice since the unwelcome guest, Covid, came to town. I order through grub hub, which I'm concerned about. There are some questions about the fees and if the restaurant actually gets paid fully. I haven't read anything about delivery not getting full tips, but I tip in cash just in case. Burgers here are great! The simple all American satisfies completely. Tastes like a burger, feels like a burger. Not too big, which I like. If I order again, okay okay, when I order again, I'm going to stick to the all american. The second time we had the monster double decker thing with the fries in it, and the blue cheese burger. Neither of those was as good as the all american, and I found myself wishing I had just ordered that again. I mean, it was good, and for a plant based burger I'd say it's awesome, but ... I just don't need all those extra tastes. That's a word, right? Extra tastes. Oh, and faux bacon is not worth the energy it takes to chew it up. Just no on that. The fries were limp, but some people like them soft. The tater tots were good, the sweet potato fries exactly what you'd expect. As a vegetarian moving towards vegan (it's a journey), I really appreciate places like Next Level. It's the easiest thing in the world to be a vegetarian in Portland with all the great choices. Great Vegan Burger place!! I went there with a few friends and tried the Mexican and Quinoa Burgers, Spicy fries, and the Cookies and Cream milkshake. Delicious, somewhat healthy, and flavorful. I like how the burgers aren't messy and not overly stuffed. The Cookies and Cream milkshake is one of my favorites. Taste like ice cream, can't even tell it's made from soy milk. I love the cheese on the top of the spicy fries. Hope this place becomes a franchise and expands to the East coast to DC. Whenever I come to Portland, Next Level Burger is #1 on my foodie list. I admire the concept behind NLB - it's built to scale. They have a somewhat healthy menu modeled after America's contribution to cuisine, the burger restaurant. When I was there, the diners ranged from about 3 to 70 years old. I had the burger with vegan cheese and chili. The burger had a little salt, but was lacking in spices and texture. The chili had a strong cumin note and was a little thin. I haven't been to their other locations. This one made unusual use of diagonals in the wood of their tables and fir paneling in the wall. That was a 70's design motif that is difficult to pull off today. There is an orange color scheme that makes the place cheerful. They have washable bowls, plates with their logotype, baskets and paper to line their baskets. All well designed. They had 5 taps: 2 micros, 2 ciders and 2 kombuchas. They had a very good waste sorting area for self bussing. The staff was cheerful. Where they could improve is toasting the bun and having metal utensils. I would say they could improve the flavors and textures, but that might not work for families with children. The restaurant was started by a family in Bend and it has scaled. It has been brought into Amazon-Whole Foods as the in-house burger bar. read more

This was really good and surprisingly filling. Both my husband and I got the All-American burger, which was really good. I was tempted to get the Southern burger, but I will just have to get that one next time. We shared the Bleu BBQ fries and each got a shake. Mine was the Dark Chocolate PB Cup and he got coffee, both with coconut milk. Everything was tasty, but I didn't try husband's shake since I'm not a coffee fan. He did finish it though, so it must have been good. I would say the shakes are the best part. I WILL go back for another one of those. Burger was good. I liked the flavour but couldn't finish it. In a town full of plant-based burgers, I've become spoiled with so many choices. The main thing that sets these guys apart is that they use 100% organic produce. Organic produce is happy produce. After checking out the huge menu above the cash registers/front counter, you order there, and take a number/find a seat. As far as seating goes, they have a few tables that seat 4 people, a long communal table in the center, a few counters spots, and bar seats. Casual and quick dining. I've tried all of the burgers, and my favorite is the All- American: vegan patty with smokey tempeh bacon, and cheddar. I'd skip the chili dogs, they were unimpressive. The fries and tots are baked, not fried. I think they taste a whole lot better with chili added to the top of them. Milkshakes are okay, and come in a variety of flavor combinations. While the food isn't mind blowingly tasty, it works in a pinch. I'm thankful for this all-vegan fast-food establishment. They also do breakfast. I've yet to give that a shot. Staff has always been more the helpful. Someone always comes around and asks us how everything is tasting, etc... The bamboo dishware they serve the food on is a neat idea and kind to our planet. Restrooms: super clean. They have a nice smelling hand soap. Parking can be rough in this area. The tiny lot serves about 10 spots divided between a few businesses. You can order and pay on-line ahead of time, swoop in, grab your stuff to go, and head to the park. They overcooked my Tots like a mofo and the Peanut Butter Choco Shake was halfway melted with a sh*tload of choco bits in it....I mean a sh*tloadddddd. Love the concept of a completely plant based burger joint with gluten free options, which is the main reason for the 4 stars. The food was alright but could definitely use some work. I had the signature, which had a delicious vegan patty. The whole wheat bun was, however, very dry and cold. Would love if they toasted or steamed the bun. Perhaps this is an option, but I didn't ask. The sweet potato fries had great flavor, but were pretty soggy. Fries are a rare treat for me so I was a little disappointed by my flaccid fry experience. They also forgot the cheese on both of our burgers, but that's not a huge deal. The milkshakes are pretty good as long as your expectations are reasonable and you're not comparing it with a creamy, milk-based shake. Overall, I would give this place a solid 3.5 stars for my first experience here, but will round up until I give it another try. read more

Super friendly, very clean. Clearly mapped 6-foot distance markers to keep people social distanced. The food was weird but good. I love vegan burgers and theirs was cooked and seasoned well. The red leaf lettuce on the burger was weird, for both my wife and I the lettuce got so slippery with the sauce on it that we both couldn't hold out burgers without just taking the whole lettuce leaf out. Also, I got grilled onions on my burger. They use red onion instead of a more common yellow or white, and the outcome is a little strange. Added to the kind of goopy mess this burger became. But the taste was excellent. Got the chipotle mayo and it was satisfying. Coconut chocolate shake was suuuuper good. The fries were very bland and didn't really get crispy.
