Don't know what to say, but the owner "NGA" she acts and talks professional, but doesn't know how to do a perm hair. I brought my Mom there the first time and talk to a guy and he did a VERY good job (permanent wave) on my Mom hair. But then a second permanent wave I call first, then just drop off my Mom there and the owner "NGA" did for my Mom.. OMG very bad, burn off my Mom hair and very wavy, now everyday I look at my Mom and get mad, I text and called her.. She has nice told me to bring my Mom back and she will fix it.. But I am getting mad too much and really don't want to bring my Mom back there because I am afraid I will get more mad and talk loud. I am really don't know what to say to this owner??? That is why anytime I go any salon to do even know more than 5 times I will still talk carefully to them before they do the service.. never trust anyone even know they are professional and 20 years experience. After coming here 3 times. I would give Lethu 5 stars. 1, She is always on time. So don't be late for your appointment. (The place I used to go in Rowland Hts did a great job too but she always took walk ins and always had to wait a little longer or she would spare her time working on two clients at same time.) 2. She did an amazing job and I can tell she has yrs of experiences. Haircut is very subjective but every time I let her decide what best for me and the result was always what I wanted. (p.s I have straight, medium long length hair style.) 3. Usually she spent around 50 mins just on me because I have lot of hair. Hair wash is included. 4. The price is very affordable, $25 for women haircut. (Rowland hts D2 charges $40) 5. She makes me feel comfortable. Lethu is a pretty petite Vietnamese woman that talks soft. never rush, sweet and not overly talkative . 6. No language barriers here if that's what worry you. Come here if you have tons of time to waste and maybe if you speak fluent vietnamese. My cut was average, and somehow went from a ten dollar haircut to a twenty dollar one. Where my earring was ripped out of my ear by the chatting stylists. No joke. My hair was washed, then blow dried, then sprayed before she started making blunt cuts and when she finished round brushing my hair, I had to mention that my hair wasn't a center part. Then she had to go back and redo my bangs. Where did these people learn to do hair? My mom got her hair permed here and the whole process took three hours? Been getting my hair cut by Hien since I was like 12 back when she was at Oscars salon. She just knows how to cut my hair better than anyone else I've gone to. Ive tried several other salons since I move around a lot but I alway come back to hein. I've always gotten lots of compliments about my haircut. She does have her specialty mind you. She's definitely good at cutting layers. I've tried other cuts and I'm not sure if she's not great at them or if they just didn't look good on my specifically. I've found my go to hair cut and for now, I'm sticking with it. What's great is that though I'm super lazy (I only cut my hair 2-3 times a year), the layers still look great through the next cut. I have a lot of hair, which can be intimidating for a lot of stylists that I've been to, but Hien has always handled it in stride. She takes her time and is very meticulous. The cut always comes out great. I've noticed with the bigger chain salons (Toni&Guy or Paul Mitchell) something always seems off when I style my own hair the next day. The layers just aren't right. But with Hien, I can always expect my hair to look good regardless if I style it or a professional does. And at $25 who can beat that? Tryst is her newer location. It's a nice salon. I had the manager cut my hair, and she messed it up so badly. She cut off more than 2 inches of what I told her. While she was cutting it, I kept telling her it was too short. She told me not to worry about it. I look horrible. My hair literally look half finished. Chunks of hair here and there. It literally looks like a bunch of rectangles on my head. I have been growing my hair and trying to nourish it back to life after I bleached and colored it for so long. I finally have it to the length that I want and I wanted to find someone that does good layer but still keep the length that I have. I heard about Nga salon from a friend so I called and made an appointment with the owner. I love the fact that it is so easy to make an appointment here, she was about to take me in the next morning. I started having second thought after I made the appointment because I was going through their yelp page. She is a lot different from all the hair stylists I ever been to. She doesn't have a lot of reviews and I saw a couple negative comments as well. The morning of the appointment, I parked in the parking lot and wondered if I should go in because I'm very nervous about my hair. I finally decided to give it a try. She was already so busy at 10am on a weekday. I was the second person walked in, then a few more clients came in right after me. It made me feel much better, if she is busy then she must not be that bad. This is not the regular type of salon I'm used to. It was so chaotic and busy. She was rushing left and right trying to fit all the clients in. Then two other hair stylists came in so it got a little better. But let me warn you this! McDonald's is even more organized than this! Lol it was very chaotic in my opinion. Don't expect a relaxing environment or music. Don't expect them to dedicate their time just for you only, they will probably be doing two or three things at the same time. Don't expect a nice blow out or have your hair curl at the end (I'm not sure but you probably can pay extra to get that) However, I don't care about all of that because my hair came out fabulous! It was perfectly layered the way I like and she kept my length the same. And best of all, I had my hair shampoo and layered for $17! They didn't pressure or try to upsell anything extra. That's crazy cheap! I almost didn't believe it. OMG, How come nobody ever told me I can get a good hair cut for $17. I have been spending so much more every time I go into a salon. I used to get haircuts at Oscar's until they closed but then I found out Mindy and her sister Thu moved to Tryst, an awkward name for a salon unless you're having an affair with your stylist. (Merriam-Webster defines tryst as "a meeting by lovers at a secret time or place." There's nothing secretive about the time or place of my appointment. Nor am I in love with my stylist.) :P My sisters and I have gotten our hair cut by these two sisters for the past two decades. For $25 a haircut, it's worth the drive. I was a little hesitant at first, but I had no choice but to try it out because the other salon was fully booked and I had to get it done that day since I was going out of town the very next day. I'm very pleased with the results. I came in with boxed dyed black hair, and left with a natural looking ombre. Make sure to ask for Lynn! The new owner, Co Nga, has been cutting and dying my hair for years now! She truly knows how to cut and style hair. V-shaped, U-shaped, layers, etc. she can do it all. I'm so happy that she was finally able to open her own shop. The interior is very trendy, clean, and modern. The best part is that prices are super affordable! Definitely check this salon out if you are looking for a fresh new look. The only downside is that sometimes the wait can be quite long. I have an appointment at 10 to get my eye brow permanent make up touch up done. The guy came at 11, then he said he couldn't do the touch up and suggested me to get a laser. My mom went to Nga for color and light perm (body wave only). After applying perm product on her hair, my mom was left waiting for almost 2 hours. She kept asking Nga to remove the perm as she never had the perm product left on her hair for that long. But Nga took on more customers than she can handle and could care less if my mom's hair condition. Afterward, my mom hair felt like straw and she didn't get the body wave she asked for. The perm Nga gave my mom resembled a rambutan. My mom was in tears when she got home and had just now told me she wanted to shave her hair off because it's so ugly. They don't even have the normal nail salon chairs that you are suppose to lay back and relax in while you pay for your service! I am 8 months pregnant and they put me in a front office chair !!!! I told her I want peekaboo highlights nothing on top. I told her I want my natural hair color all around and honey brown peekaboo highlights. I got none of that! For the most part she was nice didnt talk much at all. She DID step away from doing my hair to help other which I didnt find very professional. She never explained what she was doing to my hair or when she was gonna step away to just let the color sink in. I was at the salon for about 2.5 hours. Honestly the only reason I came here was because my dad said they do nice hair. Bullsh*t. My highlight are NOT peekaboo NOR are they the same color. So f*cken ashamed! She didnt even bother to fix it or offer me to just dye it one color. I clearly said it's not the same on both sides. One side had highlights the other side was plain. When I first called the salon, the lady told me it was $65 to color my hair and when I showed up and asked for a balayage ombré, Tina said it was actually going to be $100 while Lynn was doing my hair. It's extremely difficult to find a place that meets your standards but for what it was worth, this salon was just wayyy too overpriced and I have never paid this much to get my hair done! My first mistake before coming here was not reading all the reviews on this place. My cousin and I wanted to get our hair color. So of course, we yelped. Got price quote, pretty reasonable or so we thought. We decided to go for it. My second mistake was to allow an inexperienced person color my hair. She didn't know what the heck she doing. Most of the color was on my face. I'm not even sure she's licensed. She was even going to cut my hair. Had to stop her at this point. I requested someone else to cut my hair so the owner cut it. My third mistake was thinking the price was reasonable. 5 hours later, after everything was done, the owner attempted to increase the price she previously quoted us. Kinda shady, right? I usually don't write reviews but this place really was a waste of my time. the gentleman at the desk was really nice and was able to interpret how much it would be to cut my hair. the lady who was going to cut my hair was nice as well... for whatever reason she decided to straighten my hair as a prep to cut. however, after my hair was straighten I was asked to change chairs, which I didnt think much of. the reason for the change of chair was beacuse, the owner [or i assume its the owner] decided to have the lady cut a guys hair first, although i came before him. Now I don't want to say it was because I am Hispanic and not Vietnamese but it seemed that way. I never encountered a situation as this one. My mom's been a huge fan of Co Nga's work for as long as I can remember. She has religiously come to Co Nga for her hair cuts since Co Nga was at Rex Salon. Only Co Nga can touch and snip her hair. However, I had a different experience with her. THE SALON: The salon located in a big lot with ample parking. The inside is classy and well kept. THE HAIR EXPERIENCE: (the first visit) To get a feel for a new salon, I usually do the following: wash and shampoo, dry, and trim. To ensure I was given the proper amount of attention, I had my appointment booked ahead by a week. When I arrived, I was sitting for about 15 minutes for Co Nga. Then, I sat in the area where we get our hair washed for another 10 minutes before my hair was even wet. When I was washed up, it was the worst experience ever. Everything was rushed. Because Co Nga was just **so** busy, her own son rinsed out the conditioner and blow dried me. Excuse me, but I paid for her time and her work. She was already out with ANOTHER customer cause they wanted an eyebrow waxing. I sat around on the chair for another 20 minutes, and she finally trimmed my hair. Took her 10 minutes tops. I could've been in and out of the place in less than an hour, but I guess service and attention is not at the top of their priority list. THE BROW EXPERIENCE: (the second visit) So after that very terrible experience, I thought I would never give this place a visit. But, my regular brow lady was out of town for the month and I had an important event coming up, so my mom nudged me to go to Co Nga's for a waxing. I did a walk-in about an hour before closing. There was one other customer getting her nails done, so I figured it was going to be a quick and easy procedure. Co Nga had me sit in her chair (that's used for hair cuts) and I immediately felt weird cause I normally get my brows done laying down. She heated up the wax and then she waxed 'em. One thing that particularly bothers me is the fact that she blew on the wax so hard that I think she spit on it. Normally, I've seen brow ladies either wait for the wax to cool for a moment or just light blow on it. Co Nga blew on it like a 5 year old was blowing out his birthday candles! Brows looked fine, but man that just bothered me. OVERALL: I have tried all the services besides doing my nails here. I wouldn't recommend it, but I guess they have done some things right to have my mom come back all the time. I personally would only come back as a last resort. read more
