Came by for lunch one day. Got the pork sandwich which I loved. The pork was crispy, succulent. The bread was flaky+ airy. Jalapenos add a nice slice level to it. The presence of carrots+ cilantro, cucumber make you feel this is little healthy.

It's been sometime since I've been to Nhu Lan. It was the perfect time to take my daughters here for their first time in the shop. We ordered pork egg rolls and the following bahn mi (Nhu lan special, cha ca and sugarcane shrimp-pork). We also go the shrimp steamed rice roll from the refrigerated case. All the food was fresh and tasty. The bread was just the right amount of crispy and chewy. The ingredients did not overpower each other and had the perfect harmony in each bahn mi. My daughters liked what they ordered and within a few bites were already talking about what they will order next time. Our order was quick and service was pleasant. There is limited space to sit at the window and eat. We came early so this was not an issue.

Some of the best banh mi you will find in the Chicago area. The original banh mi is a must. Their bread is on point. Great place for some take away to enjoy at the park on a nice day.

I could eat this sandwich everyday! I've been here numerous times but I actually got it two days in a row while staying nearby at my sister's. Chicken is full of flavor with plenty of fresh veggies to bring it all together. Bread is so beautifully baked and fresh and the service is always fast and friendly. Plus the price is great!

I came here for a late lunch on a Sunday and there was no wait. I ordered a sandwich and ate it at the counter. There is not much of a dining area, so I would not come here with a large group unless you're taking your sandwiches to go. I got the special sandwich and it was delicious. The bread is excellent. I definitely need to come back and try their other offerings. The lady at the counter was very nice.

Fresh and delicious banh mi sandwiches on shatteringly fresh bread in minutes. Order these for fast dinners on the go, picnics and when you're just too lazy to cook. So good! There is a small counter so you can eat there, but we've always taken them to go. Yum!

Fast plus affordable place for Asian street food. It's pretty authentic for it being such a quick place. Nhu Lan is just like getting food on a street in Vietnam. Maybe not exactly, but the foods tastes like it came from it. There's also bubble teas and shakes to go along with a banh mi or whatever kind of sandwich. Came in to get carryout. It's the only option. The place would be too small for dine in anyway, so whatever. It's about $8 for a drink. The best looking one was the Black Bean Coconut Che Dau Den, and it tasted as good as it looked. It actually tasted kind of chocolatey. This was also made with coconut milk and tapioca. As for the banh mi, there were a few vegan choices. It's about $10 for a sandwich. The best sounding one was the Vegan Ginger Tofu. It had a little spice to it. The tofu was more of a cheesesteak texture. Good flavor. This was actually pretty filling for this one thing. Good place to get Asian fast. It's carryout only. There's lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians.

Banh Mi sandwiches here are simply amazing! They're a steal as they are a great size and at a great price. The bread they bake in-house is freshly baked and the ingredients are always top-notch. It's more of a take-out spot. It's really just a counter with some fridges filled with soda or other typical Vietnamese food but they do have four seats if you prefer to dine in. The service is mostly counter service, but the staff is always friendly.

Sorry I didn't complete the review & accidentally posted it on 11/06/21 - I've kind of had me a hankerin for a Bahn mi sandwich. Today coming back from Evanston I looked up Nhu Lan Saigon Subs rated 4 1/2 stars on Yelp @ 2612 W Lawerence Ave. Nhu Lan is a tiny little Vietnamese store that serves a variety of bahn mi sandwiches along w/a variety of spring rolls. I ordered a pork roast bahn mi sandwich w/freshly cooked pieces of roasted pork, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers & cilantro. The pork was freshly cooked & warm (very good) FYI - they are a carry out place w/one small area on a counter where 1 or maybe 2 people could squeeze in. I liked enough that I intend to go back & try some of the other Bahn mi sandwiches & spring rolls

Sandwiches are only $9 and they taste fresh. I have tried their classic and tofu versions. There's free parking also.

And I don't eat meats that are made with nitrates. So that knocks out the whole sandwich menu. Oh and I just don't like mushrooms. It's not their problem! Believe me, I know I'm a hot mess. You can't just order a sandwich with chicken and arugula because everything is pre-made and the chicken diced up and is already mixed with red bell peppers, more like a chicken salad sandwich, rather than just a piece of chicken breast waiting for some bread and accoutrements which is what I expected after reading the menu on my phone the day before choosing it for a visit. So it's impossible to get a custom sandwich where you pick and choose what's on it. But they were extremely nice answering all my questions about the food. I could maybe get some focaccia and a side of broccoli if I was desperate and nothing else was open. But I was in no rush and just went home and made something for myself. But my partner really enjoyed it so I'm glad we stopped by to check it out. It's definitely unique and convenient if you don't have so many food allergies like I do. I had already had my coffee fix for the day so I neglected to ask if they have nondairy milk options. There's limited seating inside but lots outside if the weather's nice! Cute little place.

I doubt anyone leaves feeling less jolly than they did going in. On this visit, I started with the After Word to drink. It was light-bodied, not at all too sweet, and possibly went down *too* easily. We split the short rib poutine and I can't think of a better dish to get you through the winter. The meat absolutely melted in the mouth and the cheese was abundant and rich. Would order again in a heartbeat! We also tried the alligator bites as a seasonal special. I'd not had alligator before, but they were super crispy and spicy with an addictive gochujang sauce. It really does taste like chicken. If you've ever wanted to try alligator, this is the place to do it. For the main event, I opted for the red beans and rice hand pie. It came with a light, citrus salad and delicious hand cut fries with 3 dipping sauces, which were very fun to try. I loved the buttery pie crust but the filling tasty very tomato forward- I was missing the heat of a traditional red beans & rice and wished there was more seasoning. Still good. As usual, the portions were generous for the price and we left with leftovers. Absolutely recommend making the trek over here to give B&B a try, and will be back soon!

Then I forget for a few months, find another $20, end up stumbling across this place again and going "why don't I come here more?" This has happened three times. The most important part though- it's real tasty. Always. I'd say all of it, but I'm still working my way through the menu, but the burgers and Mac never let me down. The servers are always really laid back, and nothing feels rushed. I think it's part of the charm; somewhere to go and relax and take your time to enjoy the vibe. And you know what would help the vibe even more? Including the bread pudding on the menu full time. Keeping that bad boy stocked for me at all times. (This time was my first time seeing it on the specials menu and listen, it WAS special. So special that you should upgrade it to mainstay is all.)

I'm sure it's a favorite for North Park University students, which is just across the street. We like to come here and walk off our calories on the campus....Stay ripped Yelpers!! But back to Sissy's, this is perhaps our 5th or 6th visit and our favorites are their: - empanadas (beef and chicken) and enjoy that chimichurri sauce!! - grilled chicken or steak salad with mango dressing (5 stars) - steak Jibarito, so very legit, Puerto Rico in the house!! - last but not least, as a dessert, we have the Maduros (sweet plantains) with guava and that's topped with chihuahua cheese (although some people have this as an appetizer). Usually the service is outstanding too but for some reason the service was woefully inadequate. I asked for 2 beef empanadas she brought me 2 chicken empanadas (still good) but not what I ordered. I also ordered the breakfast sandwich on chibatta bread w/chorizo, egg Swiss cheese & mayo. I also ordered sweet potato chips. This was very good. I'm not sure if the server was angry at me? I've eaten here many times before but for whatever reason she refused to acknowledge me or even look my way. I wanted more ice water but she kept walking back and forth to the other tables even though I repeatedly tried to flag her down. Finally I stood up to get my own water that's when she finally came w/the water. Even though the bill was only $17 including tax I gave her a $5 tip which I probably shouldn't have based on her completely ignoring me. WHATS UP W/THAT?
