It's been sometime since I've been to Nhu Lan. It was the perfect time to take my daughters here for their first time in the shop. We ordered pork egg rolls and the following bahn mi (Nhu lan special, cha ca and sugarcane shrimp-pork). We also go the shrimp steamed rice roll from the refrigerated case. All the food was fresh and tasty. The bread was just the right amount of crispy and chewy. The ingredients did not overpower each other and had the perfect harmony in each bahn mi. My daughters liked what they ordered and within a few bites were already talking about what they will order next time. Our order was quick and service was pleasant. There is limited space to sit at the window and eat. We came early so this was not an issue.

Some of the best banh mi you will find in the Chicago area. The original banh mi is a must. Their bread is on point. Great place for some take away to enjoy at the park on a nice day.

I could eat this sandwich everyday! I've been here numerous times but I actually got it two days in a row while staying nearby at my sister's. Chicken is full of flavor with plenty of fresh veggies to bring it all together. Bread is so beautifully baked and fresh and the service is always fast and friendly. Plus the price is great!

I came here for a late lunch on a Sunday and there was no wait. I ordered a sandwich and ate it at the counter. There is not much of a dining area, so I would not come here with a large group unless you're taking your sandwiches to go. I got the special sandwich and it was delicious. The bread is excellent. I definitely need to come back and try their other offerings. The lady at the counter was very nice.

Fresh and delicious banh mi sandwiches on shatteringly fresh bread in minutes. Order these for fast dinners on the go, picnics and when you're just too lazy to cook. So good! There is a small counter so you can eat there, but we've always taken them to go. Yum!

Fast plus affordable place for Asian street food. It's pretty authentic for it being such a quick place. Nhu Lan is just like getting food on a street in Vietnam. Maybe not exactly, but the foods tastes like it came from it. There's also bubble teas and shakes to go along with a banh mi or whatever kind of sandwich. Came in to get carryout. It's the only option. The place would be too small for dine in anyway, so whatever. It's about $8 for a drink. The best looking one was the Black Bean Coconut Che Dau Den, and it tasted as good as it looked. It actually tasted kind of chocolatey. This was also made with coconut milk and tapioca. As for the banh mi, there were a few vegan choices. It's about $10 for a sandwich. The best sounding one was the Vegan Ginger Tofu. It had a little spice to it. The tofu was more of a cheesesteak texture. Good flavor. This was actually pretty filling for this one thing. Good place to get Asian fast. It's carryout only. There's lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians.

Really friendly and attentive service, freshly made & flavorful food. My go-to for buhn mi.

Banh Mi sandwiches here are simply amazing! They're a steal as they are a great size and at a great price. The bread they bake in-house is freshly baked and the ingredients are always top-notch. It's more of a take-out spot. It's really just a counter with some fridges filled with soda or other typical Vietnamese food but they do have four seats if you prefer to dine in. The service is mostly counter service, but the staff is always friendly.

Sorry I didn't complete the review & accidentally posted it on 11/06/21 - I've kind of had me a hankerin for a Bahn mi sandwich. Today coming back from Evanston I looked up Nhu Lan Saigon Subs rated 4 1/2 stars on Yelp @ 2612 W Lawerence Ave. Nhu Lan is a tiny little Vietnamese store that serves a variety of bahn mi sandwiches along w/a variety of spring rolls. I ordered a pork roast bahn mi sandwich w/freshly cooked pieces of roasted pork, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers & cilantro. The pork was freshly cooked & warm (very good) FYI - they are a carry out place w/one small area on a counter where 1 or maybe 2 people could squeeze in. I liked enough that I intend to go back & try some of the other Bahn mi sandwiches & spring rolls

We got two cupcakes to share -- the purple velvet and the main squeeze. The purple velvet is ube butter cake, ube mousse, and ube cake crumbs. The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon!

I especially liked the longanisa breakfast sandwich and chicken adobo. I'm so glad that they were willing to make the breakfast sandwhiches beyond 12pm for some of us waiting in line. Fyi they normally stop making the breakfast sandwhiches at noon. Be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour, this spot is super popular. I also really enjoyed the chicken adobo. The chicken was tender and I thought the hint of sweetness from the coconut flakes sprinkled on top was a pleasant touch. I also really liked the Manila fog drink - it wasn't too sweet or overpowering. For the ube huckleberry basque cake - I mostly tasted tartness from the huckleberry and not so much ube, but it was good regardless. The staff were all pretty nice. There's indoor and outdoor seating. You'll likely be able to make a friend or two from the wait in line haha. Highly recommend trying this place at least once!

I actually don't like truffle or croissant but this was flaky, and the rock sugar (I think that's what it is?) on top is so addicting. the cream truffle filling was flavorful but not overpowering -- longanisa egg sandwich + hashbrown: 7/10 just wasn't a standout for me -- mushroom adobo: 8/10 it was flavorful - I would order again but not sure it's worth almost $20 for drinks, we both got the hot yam but my boyfriend got it iced and I got it hot -- it tasted better iced but it was still lacking in ube flavor. the coffee also didn't taste strong enough for me personally honestly I really wanted to like this place more but for almost $100 for everything and the long wait, I expected at least half of the items to be perfect but I felt like only the truffle croissant felt like a 10/10 for me I will say the staff was very sweet though -- maybe it's a better experience dining in, so I think next time I will wake up early to eat inside and hopefully be able to give a higher rating :-)

I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. Would recommend to try at least once when you're in Chicago! Glad to have stopped in.

We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
