This review is regarding a water heater. Bob was very helpful in answering all my questions and the most affordably priced. I called several other well known companies in the area to price out water heaters and they were considerably more, some even seemed too busy to bother getting me all the details I asked for, and one just didn't have as qualified person to answer questions. The day of the install Bob and his assistant Mark who has been with Bob for over 20 years were here on time and ready to work. They drained the water heater and cleaned up. He removed the old water heater. Bob took the time to explain a few things about my new water heater and how to maintain it. Terrible customer service. I requested to have water run to a washer/dryer combo unit and he showed up and didn't have the right info from our phone call. Said he thought I was doing something with a sink. Then he told me the job was impossible. I tried to inquire about alternate solutions and he proceeded to tell me all the reasons I don't get it. No alternate solutions, no helpful suggestions (actually he did mention maybe I could hire a handyman to help me solve this?) Anyway basically It seemed like he didn't want to do the job before he got there, as his feedback was that I'm completely screwed and it can't happen. Side note: There is an upstairs sink already set up for plumbing we can probably modify for the washer/dryer, btw. Didn't think of it until afterwards but if he had pursued alternate solutions that surely would've occurred to me. But he didn't try to be helpful at all. Boo. read more

The big company plumbers would learn a lot by seeing how Bob operates especially on the customer service end. And pricing is VERY reasonable compared to the big plumber companies. If I could give them 100 stars I would. I listed my house for sale last week and this week noticed a whiff of sewer odor emanating from the bathroom. Yesterday, thinking it was just a wax ring I had someone pull the toilet. Wrong! Underneath was a crumbling lead pipe, beyond my handyman's scope of practice. I called Nichols Plumbing this morning and talked to Bob. and explained the situation. He graciously rearranged his appointments to be able to come out this morning and assess the situation, give me a bid and do the job. He and Josh were very thoughtful about following COVID precautions, protecting the carpets, making as small a hole as possible in the sheet rock (and creating a access) as well as taking care to not let the pets out as they went back and forth. We had a broken pipe in our front yard during the big Portland snow storm this week and were without water to our house. No plumbers were willing to come to our house due to the roads until we found Nichols Plumbing. They not only braved the snowy, icy roads to come to our house, but they spent the entire afternoon working and digging in our front yard to find and fix our broken pipe. They fixed the pipe and got the water restored to our house in freezing conditions. They were reasonable considering the difficulty of the job and we knew their hourly rate ahead of time. Had a water heater sinking like the titanic on a Saturday, water was a frigid as any river around here! Called the number listed here thinking I was going to get an answering machine like a few others I had called. I was surprised to hear a real voice answer. Bob was his name, the owner, answering the call. I explained what was going on, gave him the specifics of the type of water heater that I had, asked him what he could do to help fix the problem. He was so courteous, friendly and right to the point. Gave me a quote over the phone, said he could be there on Monday. I was surprised he could to us so fast. On Monday he was on time, had all his equipment ready, his assistant was eager to help. I was really impressed with his knowledge on what the problem was. Both he and his assistant had great senses of humor since the placement of the water heater was bit of a complication. Because of that, the price he quote went up a little bit, not a problem at all since his attitude and knowledge was superior to any plumber I have ever worked with. After the job was done, he went through all the quirks that could happen after an installation, assured us that if anything happened to call him immediately and he would take care it. Before he left, he took the time out to check out a few other things we had questions on. I knew from over hearing his schedule he was super busy, but he took the time out to give us answers when he could have said he was too busy. I would use him again, definitely will use him again when we get to our plans of remodeling our bathroom.
