Nick's is a great place to come to celebrate or just to grab dinner! Everything that I've tried here has always been delicious and this time we came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The service here is really great and they are very attentive. We tried the Asparagus fries for appetizer, (this is a crowd favorite) however I've order the Shrimp Taquitos in the past and I would recommend trying that as well! For the entree, we ordered the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass and the Prime Rib Dip. The Sea Bass might look tiny in the pictures but it is very fulfilling. I love how Nick's make their mash potatoes - it's so creamy and just melts in your mouth! We can never go to Nicks without order THE Butter Cake. It's criminal to come here and not order that for dessert. It's so delicious and we look forward to it and it's such a treat when we get it. We asked the host and apparently, it's not a crazy amount of butter that's added in, but even if it is, ~~ignorance is bliss ~~ lol! This time they added a candle to celebrate my bf's birthday, which was a nice gesture! There's indoor and outdoor seating - I'd recommend bringing a jacket if you are sitting outdoors since Manhattan beach gets pretty chilly with the beach so close by. They have heat lamps at the outdoor dining area but some areas might not be too close enough to feel that. There's a parking garage structure if street parking is hard to find. It was overall a very good experience. We got there early for brunch, and were able to get seated immediately. The weight staff were excellent and friendly and knowledgeable. As far as the food goes, we started off with the asparagus fries which were an absolute stand out on the menu. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, and juicy and hot on the inside. Would eat these over regular fries any day! As far as our mains, I got the seafood cioppino And my friend got the salad, I honestly forget which one. Both were delicious and the portions were extremely generous. I definitely had to take about half of my soup back home. Even the containers that they put our leftovers in were impressive. I went to Nick's on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too crowded! The only thing is parking which can be tricky. There are a couple of parking structures and street parking nearby. The server was very kind and helpful. I got the sea bass which came with whipped potatoes and spinach. The potatoes were so buttery and probably my favorite part art of the dish. We also got the calamari and asparagus fries to share. Both were great appetizers. My boyfriend got the original ribeye melt which was also really good! This is our current go-to date night spot in the South Bay thanks to the quality food, wine, cocktails, service, dim lit ambiance + ease of parking and walk-in/waitlist! PARKING: Underground public parking structure next door where the escalator leads up to the Metlox plaza that Nick's is located in. Search for "Lot M" on Google Maps (for "M" for "Metlox"). It's $2.00 per hour, with a 3-hour time limit on P1 (free after 9pm) and a 10-hour time limit on P2. Entrances are on Valley Dr and Morningside Dr. RESERVATIONS: Recommended but they also have a waitlist feature on OpenTable that is our preferred method since we usually come here spontaneously on the evenings we don't want to cook or we feel like going out to eat! I almost hesitate writing that tip because I don't want it to get harder to get a last-minute table! FOOD: - Kale and Quinoa Salad, add Salmon, add Avocado - (5/5) - We've tried a lot of salads (fiber, anyone?) and this is hands-down our FAVORITE salad in the South Bay!!! Adding salmon and avocado takes this salad from good to unforgettable. - San Francisco Cioppino (5/5) - So hearty, QUALITY seafood, and the sourdough loaf just sops it all up. If someone calls and is told there is no wait - puts a baby in a car, drives over, pays for parking, and 10 minutes later when they arrive they are told it's a 45 min wait because of reservations, even though there are lots of empty tables - something is very broken with the system. Do better and be more responsible with what you tell people over the phone. After this I don't think we'll be comfortable coming back. read more

The appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. Must gets definitely have to be the 3 I got -- asparagus fries, shrimp taquitos, and tuna tartare. Tuna tartare was my favorite! The wonton chips were great and the portion was also great. I got the bistro plate and the meat was cooked to perfection! It was also super tender and not chewy. The French onion soup it came with wasn't the best French onion soup I've had but it did the job. The seafood cioppino was OK and the chicken piccata was great! Went to take a client to a business lunch here. We sat outside on the patio. IT ended up being such a nice day and the outside patio is so nice. Our server Chelsea was fantastic. She greeted us right away and asked what brought us in. She found out it was a business lunch and it seemed she shifted into that gear. She was attentive but at the same time gave us our space to conduct the business we needed to. I got the fish sandwich which was amazing! Chelsea brought out all the sauces ahead of time so we didn't have to wait to dip out fries :) Note to any business lunch goers dont get the fish sandwich .. its great just not nice for the other person to look at while your eating. Our waiter to the other staff were really great. My friend had her baby with her and asked for milk which they accommodated with no issue. They also made sure we had a table that would more accommodate us since we had an infant. Our waiter gave great suggestions and our food and drinks came out in great timing. Food: the food was amazing! I got the chicken piccata which was a generous portion, my friend got the blackened fish sandwich which was amazing as well and the presentation was great! We were able to park right in front, it was 7p on a Monday so not too busy. Didn't have rest they made accommodations. We waited about 10min give or take just sat at the bar. Wish there was more of a wine selection b ur the few they had seemed good. Briana was our waitress sweet gyal her replacement while she was on lunch was sweet as well, German, forgot his name. Ambiance was between business casual and date night. I wanted the special but they were sold out so I settled with the seabass, it was bland but the garlic spinach and potatoes were bomb. Pro tip: This place takes reservations on opentable but it can be easy to get a walk in table if you go after 1pm or before dinnertime! I've been able to snag a table here despite having no reservations on a sunday afternoon. Nick's is seriously one of my favorite places in Manhattan Beach. I live in Westwood but I'll gladly drive the 1.5 hr round trip to come here and eat the salads! What we ordered: Asparagus Fries $13 Spicy Thai Salad $18 Togarashi Seared Ahi $23 Super reasonably priced and huge portions! The seared ahi was fresh and Nick's uses some peanut salad dressing that tastes incredible. This is the sequel to my Nick's review. Came back for dinner tonight. Made a reservation on Open Table. Reservations are the way to go! Walk-ins can be busy, especially in the evenings. We ordered the La Hacienda taco platter with sea bass again. Once again it was amazing and it felt like it melted upon being inhaled haha. We also ordered the baby back pork ribs for the first time. That was our favorite dinner item so far. The ribs literally fell off the bone. They had the perfect amount of BBQ, not overpowering and not scarce. I was also finally able to have some room for dessert. I ordered the lemon layer cake. It was massive! Definitely a perfect amount to SHARE. It was fluffy and moist. The icing was soft, cool, and creamy. I enjoyed the combination of the soft cake texture with the crunchy lemon peel pieces. Overall, the slice of cake tasted very fresh. I topped it off with a cappuccino (can only be made with dairy). The service was awesome per usual! See you again soon Nick's! read more

Decent spot for a date night. Dimly lit, attentive staff, though I did feel a little rushed by our server. The Chilean sea bass was delish though - better than the one I got at Mastro's. California salad was also tasty but the lemon cake was a bit of a disappointment - cake was dense and not particularly lemony - it was basically vanilla cake with lemon curd and cream cheese frosting. This is such a popular restaurant even during COVID. We didn't make a reservation but they had a table next to restaurant entrance available at the moment. They had paper bags for our masks which was nice and thoughtful. The menu was quite extensive with a lot of yummy items. We only wanted to do apps and drinks so we went for artisanal cheese board and deviled eggs. Both appetizers were very delicious in healthy portions. Later on we had La Hacienda chicken taco platter which was healthy and tasty. But I didn't like the tortillas much cause they weren't soft enough to my liking. The hot fudge sundae was one of the best I'v ever had. And I haven't had a sundae for years. For drinks we tried Mojito, lemon drop, skinny margaritas and dirty Grey Goose martini. The skinny margaritas were really strong and tasty. The earl grey hot tea and hot chocolate warmed us up when it got a bit chilly. Too bad they didn't have portable heaters. I think they should get some of those cause winter is coming and dining people would need heaters to stay warm outside. The service was great and we really enjoyed our food and drinks so much. The waffle was not ur typical heavy waffle, it was light, crispy and airy. Then they have some gravy on the side that came with it. It was the flavor of biscuits and gravy, gravy lol that took it over the top! Baileys coffee $8 -4/5 : it was the frozen ball Irish crepe that slowly melted while you sipped for me. A def must try! My girlfriend brought me to Nick's for my birthday. I really struggled with making a decision because everything looked amazing. I ended up ordering the buttermilk fried chicken breast over mashed potatoes accompanied by corn on the cob. The chicken also had a sausage gravy on top. Oh and I can't forget the flaky biscuit. WOW! It was a delicious mouthful. Since I couldn't make up my mind I also ordered short ribs to go. That too was mouthwatering good the next day. It was in a wine sauce with a Brussel sprout, (yes just 1), mushrooms, potatoes, and carrots over mashed potatoes. The meat was tender and flavorful. I will definitely order that the next time I go. Our server was patient and attentive. He was at our beck and call with pleasantries and great suggestions. I really liked the booths and mood lighting. The staff was amazing. I have absolutely zero complaints about the service. But the food was way overpriced for the quality. Every dish we ordered was so bland, which is not something that you would expect from a restaurant with such a limited menu. Typically limited menu restaurants absolutely kill it because they get to focus on the quality. All in all, we paid for the prime real estate (Manhattan Beach) and no one got sick or sent back any food. But I can't see any of us ever returning unless we're starving and that place is the only option. read more

I ordered the Tri tip French dip with warm potato salad topped with bacon. I then ordered an appetizer which consisted of deviled eggs that were fried with seasoning and bacon bits. The food was exquisite and I couldn't finish it all. I ordered their famous butter cake with fresh fruit. I advise you not to skip dessert you will regret it. This was my first time at Nick's. My friends took me for my birthday. The service was impeccable! We were checked on regularly but not in an annoying way. Our server was so respectful and sweet. They also give you little paper bags to store your masks while dining. Such a nice detail. I've done outdoor dining at other restaurants since COVID but Nick's does it right! I've been to places and the dining experience was uncomfortable because we were so cold. Not Nick's! They have a huge heater over every table and it feels so warm, like you're inside. The food was amazing! I had the Chilean Sea Bass, my friend had the salmon, my other friend had the fried chicken and my other friend had the burger. Everyone's food was absolutely perfect. Large portions cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were so good! For dessert, they brought me a butter cake with ice cream and it was SO good.
