I mainly go here for the bagels and pastries, which I love. Coffee is not my fave but still drinkable and it's convenient to grab a cup with my bagel. I've gotten pizza here a few time and found the meat slices a bit greasy but the vegetarian slices have all been delish. It's a nice neighborhood joint and there's a good amount of outdoor seating. Counter service has always been friendly when I've been there. I hope more Oakland businesses explore the co-op model, it seems to be working well here. read more

Absolutely delicious. Went to the new location somehow has made the pizza even more delicious. Crust is absolutely the right crunch and chewiness. And ofc is sourdough dough. Got the chorizo and potato which was amazing flavors. Also had sausage and so flavorful. And even tastes just as good the next dat They also offered bread, focaccia, and brownies. This was once a 5 star place when it came to bagels. Apparently now an afterthought only available on weekends. The hours have always been a problem and they moved from 5 days a week making bagel sammies, only until 11am, now to only 2 days. Pizza is great but there are lots of pizza places and it is easier to make them at home. Sad really, this was once my go to for bagel n lox classic, I told everyone about it. Shame. Closed for Mothers Day and Fathers day. I went 6 last times to be turned away for one reason or another (closed, new hrs, or no bagels) This one really hurt. Biked here to try the sourdough pizza while family was in town. We were excited to try Nick's as the environment is really inviting and there is a lot of seating. Saw them on "Check Please Bay Area" and just had to go the same weekend; was concerned about a long line, since they were just highly reviewed on tv; but I lucked out in the line. Had to have the morning bun cardamom with pecan, and the garlic cheese epi pull apart bread. Good thing I asked about the morning buns, since I didn't see it on the display case - was informed it will be ready in about 20 minutes, fresh out of the oven. So had a slice of the white pie pizza, while waiting. Asked them if they can warm it up and their service couldn't have been friendlier. The pizza was chewy, crisp, hot and very flavorful; but a tad too salty for me; I still devoured it. The garlic and cheese pull apart bread was so perfect in being chewy and crisp. After hearing rave reviews from a friend, we arrived here early on a Sunday morning to sample their pizzas. Service is friendly, parking is by the street and may be limited. A very unlikely spot to set up a store but it works. Although I do feel that if this shop was in central Temescal, it would be packed. It's a limited seating place but since we were first to be served, we grabbed the only 2 seat spot on the pavement with our dog. We started with a cheddar scone which looked so cute and savory and was begging to be eaten. This scone turned out to be the star of the show. In fact, I think I prefer it to any other scone I have ever tasted. Just fabulous! Buttery, flaky layers of the scone ooze cheddary flavor with occasional bits of bacon? adding to the profile. I would go back just for one of these every morning if I could. The magic of the pizza, as others have said, is in its crust. Good crunch and bite without being too thick or chewy. Moving to the East Bay from the East Coast, I was starting to think that y'all had a completely different concept of pizza out here. Then finally, I found that Nick's is the real deal. Nick's Pizza has this perfect texture crust with high quality toppings. You can tell that each pie was made with care. Judging from the greatness of the sourdough pizza crust and the absolutely top-notch chocolate chip cookie, Nick is an amazing baker. I love that this place serves slices so I can pop in for lunch for a slice and a cookie. Sometimes you don't want to pay $25 for a whole pizza--not that it's not worth the dough (ha!), you just don't want to be tempted to crush the whole pizza in one sitting with your closest friend or significant other....because that's what would happen....because the pizza is that good. I've tried the Pepperoni which is a great classic and bonus: it's nitrate free. The spinach and mushroom is delicious too: I loved the roasted garlic cloves and real mushrooms. We stopped off at Nick's on a whim after realizing every other spot in Berkeley was PACKED with college football fans. We had never heard of it before, but the outside seating looked nice and pizza -- especially sourdough pizza -- always sounds good. You order inside, find a table outside, and they call your name. The wait was totally reasonable for fresh pizza, and 100% worth it. We got a giant classic pepperoni and a smaller pie with the works, as well as a Caesar salad. All of it was fab, and we had leftovers for a few days, which is always the best. Breakfast? Pizza. Lunch? Pizza. HUGE BONUS: We were there about an hour before closing, and the staff was generous enough to just GIVE us some bread that hadn't been sold that day, rather than see it go to waste. I've been on a mission to try more pizza places in the area and Nick's is my latest find! What really stands out about Nick's is the sourdough crust. It's chewy and flavorful with crisp edges and no soggy bottom! They have a preset menu with options ranging from basic cheese pizza or pepperoni to asparagus prosciutto and bacon goat cheese, all made with quality ingredients. No substitutions or additions allowed for toppings though, which is a bummer! Whole pies are around $26 and individual slices are available for half the menu for ~$3. They have a good variety of grab-n-go salads in the fridge and focaccia rounds and chocolate chip cookies at the register for $2. I heard the owner is a baker, so I'm sure they're tasty! After ordering in and observing the crowd on a Saturday afternoon, they had a constant stream of customers and more than half the orders were pick up. They seem to be a neighborhood favorite! It's almost unfair to call Nick's Pizza a slice shop. Technically the seven year old, Bushrod business is a pizza place. Says so right in the name. But Chef Nick is flexing his baking muscles to turn out some pretty decent baked goods too. Chef Nick really knows his way around a slice. The crust is "Oakland Sourdough" -- nice and thin, but not too crispy. You gotta be able to fold It in half, right? The chew on the crust is really nice. The slight tang from the organic sourdough crust goes so well with Nick's seasonal toppings -- Roasted Delicata Squash, Radicchio, Ricotta, Mozzarella, Walnuts, Lemon-Agave Vinaigrette -- and that's just on one pie. You can still go Old School with a Pepperoni or Classic Olive and Herb, but why not be adventurous? Nick's small batch bread is really worth snagging a couple to go. You can never go wrong with a good focaccia. Next time you're in the neighborhood, make it a point to stop by. You may decide to leave with your own ginormous chocolate chip cookie. read more

I'm a former New Yorker and have not found any pizza in the bay (east bay more specifically) that I'm super happy with..UNTIL now. Nicks is so good, and they have so many awesome vegan options as well. The olive pizza is the best, as I type this I"m thinking about how I want to order it right now. The crust and the sauce are A+, ordering was easy (did online) and so was pick up. They have a cute parklet to eat in as well. They also sell bagels and breads, , including marble rye. Best pizza have had in the bay. Hands down. The heirloom tomato was salty, well cooked, and so so good. We also shared the fig pizza which was almost as wonderful.
