Aww, I haven't been to Nick's Pizza in years ~ located on Shattuck, Nick's offers slices, full pies, sandos, salads, and fresh baked bread, desserts, and more. Should still be a contender for those that are experiencing an East Bay slice crawl. We were in the area waiting for a venue to open and grabbed some slices. The weather was actually pretty nice and we grabbed an outdoor table to enjoy. To note on Nick's slices because I know everyone is particular on their pizza slices these days: thin, crisp, and sourdough crust. Light and delish. We grabbed a few cheese slices and a pepperoni. I forgot to grab a side of ranch, but heard it's house made. If we had more time, would love to come back and try a full pie or try a deli sando during the week. Vegan options available. Parking is a bit tough, but street parking can be found around Nick's. Check hours before heading over. Check monthly specials too. Catering available and if placing a large pie order, you can email ahead of time.

Special pizzas for momth. Tried 2 both good.

Had: 1 - slice of apple ricotta pizza yum but wished for more apple. 4.5/5 2- tomitillo sausage pumpkin seed pizza. A little salty and not much sausage. 3.5/5. 3-jamica lime drink 4.5/5. Refreshing and not too sweet; and 4- sourdough snickerdoodle. Good taste but lacked the sharp cream of tartar taste of classic snickerdoodle 4/5 Crusts on pies were awesome!

I heard about Nick's from a YouTube foodie and what caught my attention was the sourdough pizza crust. I love sourdough and pizza and was looking forward to trying it. I tried two slices ...one cheese and the other was yellow squash with tomatoes and I think basil. They were thin crust and I didn't really taste sourdough but they were delicious. I also had the house made cheesecake which was very good. The gentleman who helped me was friendly and let me know everything was house made except for the baguettes. The seating is outdoors and communal. I'll definitely be back:)

I had been to Nick's at its former locations a number of times before I was a YELP-er and always enjoyed it. They have always been vegan-friendly!!! I don't know how it fell off of my radar, but it's back on. I ordered some take-out pizzas last month and this past week I was able to dine there in their spacious outdoor area. We ordered off of the Vegan Classic menu and chose the Olive and Herb pizza. Tomato Sauce, Castelvetrano and Kalamata Olives, Caramelized Onions, Baby Spinach, Fresh Herbs. They are not stingy with their olives! It's a real olive pizza! There were two other vegan options that were mushroom based. The patio was busy but not overcrowded. There is a bathroom on site for customers.

Loved everything about this place! Such a cool daytime spot to visit. With lots of outdoor seating, friendly staff, and delicious pizza slices. We can for an early lunch and beat the rush! Food came out fast, place started to get packed, and everyone was chowing on different types of pizza. First time trying sourdough pizza and it was soooo good! Nice balance of crunch and chew for a thin pizza. They also have desserts, coffee and baked goods! Definitely a gem of Oakland, where you can relax and enjoy eating right by the street. Check this place out for food to go or to have a nice meal outside.

Almost missed the place but Anh Phoong turned us around and we found the Grand Entrance. We were happy to find out that this place is Queer owned and operated and also Minority owned and operated and All Are Welcome. They allow NO ANIMALS (with the) EXCEPT (ion of some - read small print) animals. We would have accepted and we expected no less. Happy to see they have Free Palestine but I think they were out that day. Nick's has outdoor seating only. What a great beer garden type setting to drink a stein of pale ale but alas the sign said "no liquor license". A beer and wine license is all they need to take this place to the moon. As it was raining, I carried the best tasting deliciously crusted piping hot pizza over the threshold of our car and it was love at first to last bite. The only negative? The Check Please review on TV said they have pastrami. We drove there 20 miles for a pastrami sandwich AND a pizza and Apparently Nick's hasn't had pastrami for so long the young cashier didn't know that pastrami is ! CHECK IT OUT.

Ask the Community - Nick's Pizza

I noticed that the title business is called Nick's Pizza and not Nick's Pizza & Bakery?!? Does that mean bake goods are no longer available there?

What cheese do you use on your vegan pizzas?

NUMU. It's a plant-based, soy mozzarella that offers the best taste and texture for vegan pizza, lasagnas, and all other mozz dishes.

    Do they have gluten-free pizza?

No, sorry. GF is a very specialized type of baking, so we leave it to the specialists. Check out Mariposa near by if you haven’t already!

    How are the bagels?

really good-i'm partial to the salt one. great crust

Are the pizza only sourdough? If so, how sour is the sourdough?

They are sourdough. They are not particularly sour, worth trying out. More info here http://oaklandstylepizza.com/about-nicks-pizza/ (and be sure to check out the latest…

Since when is 62nd and Shattuck considered Rockridge?

Never has been, never will be..but the beauty of yelp is how little control business owners have over the info in their listings ;)

They are located in the Temescal area of Oakland, and they share a building with a Mexican restaurant. There's a parking lot that's shared with a pawn broker, produce market, and check cashing service. Their vibe is urban, with a rainbow flag on their front door, and assortment of plants inside. Other reviewers had mentioned a line upon opening, so we made sure to arrive 15 minutes before they open, but on this Friday morning, there was no one else but us. Our server was friendly, polite, and soft spoken. Their menu is quite small, which I appreciate. There's appetizers, sides, brunch, and dinner -- all on 1 page. Their food was outstanding, with rich flavors and beautifully presented with sauces and pickled radishes. We ordered... + Shanghai Lumpia - these were long, crispy, and properly filled + Daing Na Bangus Silog - deep fried milkfish with salad, garlic rice, and sunny egg. One of our favorites. + Fried Chicken (4-piece) - perfectly crispy and juicy. There's some warm spices in the batter, maybe all-spice. + Adobo fried rice - the pork was so tender, it shreds on your fork. This had a good amount of tanginess that was so good. + Pancit Sotanghon - not your typical pancit. The chopped veggies in this had an almost charred flavor that made the dish so interesting. There was not a bad dish. I definitely recommend this for elevated Filipino food that's not pretentious, with a modern, hip vibe.

Lush greenery abounds. Servers are nice, checking tables frequently. What fell short for me was the taste. Restaurant quality food but flavors are so divorced from the og that diners looking to satiate their Filipino food cravings will leave unsatisfied. Filipino food has very strong pungent flavors whether salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and definitely umami. It should punch diners in the mouth, no ands, ifs, or buts. Adobo sa gata (aka adobo in coconut milk) is a regional specialty. The sharpness of the vinegar mellows out with the addition of the coconut milk. But there should still be a clear and distinct flavor profile. The eggplant omelet was almost there. Liked that it wasn't greasy but again was searching for some punch of flavor. Maybe I needed to ask it they had a garlic, chili and vinegar dipping sauce. Or maybe atchara (aka pickled veg). Didn't care for the sticky rice dessert (aka suman). Didn't like the pureed texture. The green mango garnish was better when I dipped the slices in salt. FOB Kitchen's food is refined. Maybe too subtle and restrained. I get it. The chef has to appeal to the western palate, a wider audience than just Filipinos, to survive in an industry with razor thin margins. I look for good food and flavor, not necessarily for authenticity. So yes, I would still recommend this restaurant, for good eats but not for Filipino food.

MLK Cafe was perfectly located and exactly what I needed. I've never had Eritrean food before, so I was pretty excited. I ordered the foul meseleh ($13) from the breakfast menu (available all day though I had to ask for it), which was a bean-based dish, and chai. It kind of reminded me of shakshuka in terms of spices but the beans almost tasted meaty. I liked it so much that I brought it home, and my partner said it tasted like refried beans (though he did have them cold). The crusty warm bread was perfect for dipping, and I ended up not being able to finish it. The chai was pretty milky; there was a tea bag and the spices weren't very strong. Then again, I'm used to Indian chais. I would pass on the chai. There was basically no one else there on a Friday afternoon during off-peak hours. It was dimly lit and kind of chilly because the door was left open, so it wasn't the most comfortable cafe ambiance.
