The Best Pizza South of Bridgeport Trust me, I know. Born and bred in Connecticut, which should be nicknamed "The Pizza State", I've tried virtually every pizzeria between Greenwich and New London. What makes Nick's great is its *consistency*. Some places are famous for one kind of pie or another, but I've *never* had a bad pie at Nick's. The owners are very cool about helping you design a custom pizza if you like. One time, I and a friend asked for a ricotta-spinach-fresh tomato pie. They made it exactly as we specified -- but it came out dry. Our fault. Ricotta isn't oily enough. So the owner came to our table and discussed the pizza with us for about 10 minutes, eventually recommending spicy olive oil and that peppery-stuff you put on foccacia whose name I can't remember right now. Her advice was perfect. It made our pie into one of the most memorable I've eaten. Nick's is kind of hidden... I'm not sure that many people outside of Stamford and Darien know about it. I kind of want it to stay that way so we never have to stand in line to get in. But on the other hand, they deserve public credit for their intense commitment to amazing pizza. read more

I had driven by the place a few times after dropping my son off for workouts near Hope street. I stopped today for a beer and pizza for a late lunch. It was really good. They had goose island on tap and it was ice cold. The individual pizza was excellent. I will definitely be back. Service was excellent as well. read more

Nick's Pizza is delicious! It's so awesome that they have gluten free options for us GF folks! Their service is quick and they do a nice job. It's a little pricey for GF food but not too bad over all. I usually do take out but have dined in once. It's a low key environment, but always busy in the evening - looks like I'm not the only one that likes Nick's! Update: moving down to four stars because I spoke to a lady on the phone to order the other day and she was SO rude! She picked up, said "hold" and put me on hold for 2 minutes. Said, "what do you want?", I told her and then she hung up. I didn't even know if she got my order! Not only did they forget to deliver the Large Pizza again, But now we found hair in the hamburger platter.... called to let them know and all you get is an $8 dollar credit on next order... I THINK NOT. Questioned to see if they wear hair nets while prepping the food they said yes, But all the times I walked in they did not... Nicks Pizza - Large greek salad - Italian Near Me - Stamford, Connecticut

I have to say I was really disappointed, I normally order pizza for take out, decide to eat in the restaurant. We decided to eat outside on the patio. Gosh was the service awful! I had to have my son go in and ask for pepper flakes, napkins, another soda, and ask her to bring a glass of wine! Not only was she mostly absent, I had to have my son go in and ask for containers to go and pack my own food. Also I had to enter the restaurant to pay my bill, the waitress was nowhere to be found! So I go to the counter, I hand him the check that she gives me to pay at a total of $51.96. I expressed I was dissatisfied with my service. He says your total is $61.96. I said what? The receipt says $51.96 he says it says here 61.96. I said no sir! Your lying! I know what it said! I asked for the check back, I said you see! He starts stuttering! So he still says it's 61.96 he said she forgot to charge you for the wine I said ok, but on the receipt if the wine is $7.00 how are you charging me a total of almost $3.00 more ? He looked confused! Started arguing with me about the amount again. I said listen, I'm not dumb! How are you coming up with that amount, it doesn't make any sense, then he add ohhh you got another soda as well! For years every time I go home to visit my parents and we order takeout from Nick's. The food is just ok but we mainly order from Nick's because they offer whole wheat pie crust. This past time I was in town we decided to go and dine at Nick's. Such a bad dining-in experience. The place has such bad acoustics that every time the waiter was dragging chairs to move them the whole place could hear the metal on the floor (don't they make pads to help that), torn-up booth seats and so disorganized that more than once our waiter forgot to bring out items that we ordered. I will note that the servers were very sweet and apologetic. If you decide to give Nick's a try stick to take-out. read more

HORRIBLE Food alert!! I grew up going to nick's and have been there a few times in the past year, food is okay and pizza is good. But not lately, its horrible and the cook should be fired! We ordered chicken scarp, it was disgusting. The order was wrong - when you get pasta as a side with an entree the put the entre on top of the pasta, ruins the whole thing becuse it soaks up the sauce. If we opted for the side salad would they have put the entree on top of the salad?! The Chicken was pale and gooy - not browned or seasoned at all. DISGUSTING!! We ordered a pizza and wings along with a chicken caesar salad and pasta fagioli soup. They forgot the salad so when I called up to ask about it, they told me they would give me a credit for the next time we order. Yeah, that's never going to happen! So we have to contact grubhub to get the money back for the salad we never received. Besides that the soup was pretty much dish water with pasta and beans, very unappetizing, while the pizza was literally the WORST I have ever had!! Their toppings weren't bad but the dough was bland, lumpy and hard, It tasted and felt like they just mixed some flower and water together and called it pizza dough! I seriously feel sorry for all of the people who gave this place good reviews claiming that they loved the food because clearly they must be living under a rock and never get out to taste anything of quality. This restaurant is within walking distance of the Stark Elementary School. I was there for an event and walked down the street to grab a bite to go. I ordered a caesar salad and garlic bread with mozz. The entire thing cost me around $10, I quite enjoyed the garlic bread and scarfed it down in minutes... perfect amount of garlic and gooeiness of cheese. It was great. The caesar salad however could have been a bit better. The grilled chicken was a bit dried out and in very thin pieces. There was just something off that I wasn't a fan of. They are doing a promotional thing for the next two months (April and May) where part of the proceeds they make off each check is going to the Stark Elementary School for a new PA system they're trying to raise money for. I plan on trying to eat here a few more times. I'll try different things to see what they excel at and I'll report back! read more

We are Seamless junkies, and I think the name Nick's Pizza made us always think they only had pizza, so we passed over the menu when it came time to pick our dinner delivery. But Nick's is good, quick delivery (much faster than advertised on Seamless) and so much more than pizza. First, the bruschetta is delicious. Just enough tomatoes and basil to cover the entire baguette pieces. And at least 10 pieces in one serving - very generous. Second, the garlic knots are addicting. They are so easy to pop in your mouth, over and over, and we devoured the whole thing. To offset the above carb intake, I also had the greek salad, which was good, with lots of feta, and a very tasty house dressing. I usually don't love dressing, but this one was good. The chicken parm wedge was also good - with lots of chicken, cheese, and marina, served on a nice fresh roll. No, I did not eat all of the above myself.. we shared. Went tonight for a wine tasting dinner with friends. Food and wines were great and well paired at an amazing prize: 6 courses and 6 small glasses for $35/pers (including taxes). Chef/owner walked by, she is a Italian and was very friendly. Restaurant is split between a pizzeria and a pub/restaurant. Restaurant has a much better atmosphere than the pizzeria. We had 6 courses from light to strong: * Tortino di scarole e capperi (Small tart with escaroles and capers) * Crostoni con gorgonzola e prosciutto (Bruschette bread topped with fresh italian prosciutto and gorgonzola) * Conchiglie ripiene con ricotta di bufalo, mozzarella e carne macinata (Stuffed shells pasta with buffalo ricotta, fresh mozzarella and chopped meat) * Risotto alla contadina (Risotto with a colorful combination of vegetables) * Pollo alla sorrentina (Chicken breast lightly breaded topped with fresh eggplant and a trio of cheeses) * Coniglio alla Maria (Marinated rabbit cooked in white wine ,herbs and vegetables) My favorites were the shell and rabbit. The owners really know what they are doing at this place !! We recently visited for a charity meal with friends and and the whole team is absolutely superb. The ambience and setting is very warm, welcoming and friendly, the service just the right balance of attentiveness without being over the top .. The food was just the best combination of superb quality fresh ingredients and recipes that are a good blend of traditional Italian cooking.They effortlessly made a vegan entrée for my girlfriend which was excellent! .. Fresh produce cooked to order .. It is not often that you eat out and feel nothing could have been better - but Nick's Pizza did !.. So many choices and nothing was too much bother. Nick's is not just my favorite pizza, but one of my favorite spots in all of Stamford. Family owned and operated for 50(!!!) years, they are truly a fixture in the community. I tried this place for the first time and got a philly cheese steak - it was the nastiest cheese steak I've ever had. This sub was so greasy to the point I couldn't even eat it and had to throw it out. I had to use all the napkins in the bag, plus some, just to clean off the grease spot on my desk, and the sub was on top on the tin foil and the paper bag. I called back and the lady who picked up the phone just said sorry and could basically care less. I then went on the website and e-mailed the owners about my experience - no response. Sometimes I can tell when a restaurant is run by good people who care, and I think this is one of those places. The folks there have always been nice to me and to my wife as well as to my kids, and we enjoy the food. My kids love the pasta and even the sautéed broccoli with garlic, so you know it's good. I joined yelp just to review this place. Awful. The delivery guy was rude and while yelling at me because he couldn't get inside my apartment building he couldn't even look me in the eye. Rude and he had no balls. Not to mention my tip was over 20%. Having worked in customer service for many years I like to leave large tips. Never again and certainly not here. Instructions were clearly left through seamless if the delivery driver could not get in my building to call my cellphone. Vodka pizza tasted like cheese pizza. I was honestly not impressed at all with Nick's and expected better given the reviews on yelp. The pizza was way to greasy to stomach more than one slice.
