Been loving Nick's since I was in high school. Friendly service, good quality food, and good value. Would recommend this establishment to friends! My go to order is a large 3-way with a side of mozzarella sticks. Sometimes the beef is not shaved thin enough but is still good quality. read more

After hearing so many people rave about this place, I gave it a try. The roast beef was about the same as you get anywhere and nothing special to brag about. The onion rings were so greasy that my gall bladder went on strike after the third one. The fries were limp, greasy, and had that "old frozen taste." Had better, have had worse. read more

Disregard Dean H's review from 8/1/2010....he claims to have given the place a once over but failed to see the large convection oven right next to the grill or the atomatic slicer slicing pounds of fresh roast beef right out of the oven onto said grill. I have eaten here HUNDREDS of times. Never disappointed. Don't think about going, just go. It has been my #1 go-to since I was young. Best items are def broccolli bites, chicken fingers, onion rings, a well-done pizza role and the BEEF. Fries and chicken wings aren't bad either. Go with 2 junior beefs rather than the super. the chicken was very poor, like mcd's mcnuggets-gross! the flavor was so bland, the breading was not good. the onion roll on the roast beef sandwich always has burned onion, very bitter roll. whenever I asked for no butter on the bun for my roast beef guess what always was on the bun. you guessed it, butter or whatever margarine they use. the counter help is impatient. The roast beef sometimes has huge strings of fat that you need a knife and fork to cut. On a side note, there wasn't a mirror in the bathroom. Parking is very tight. read more

We specifically searched out Nick's based on TripAdvisor reviews. We both had a Roast Beef sandwich. Granted there was nothing wrong with the sandwich but there was nothing special about it either. The meat was okay, a little bland you definitely need to add salt & pepper, and the bread was nondescript. I grabbed a menu and took it with me thinking it would come in handy for a future visit. After having the sandwiches I don't see myself going back unless I happened to be in the immediate area and I was starving. I am baffled as to how they are rated the number one restaurant in Beverly. I can think of several other sandwich shops in town that are just as good - if not better. It is a clean place and family run but it is by no means the best in town. read more

Born and lived on Northshore for 60+ years. Had my first Roast Beef sandwich in my teens. The roast beef sandwiches in this area are unique and terrific. Nick's Roast Beef is one of the best. Is it the very best? I'd have to say no. I've been to Nick's maybe 8 times (not near my home). The roast beef suffers from being too tender!!! A pile of roast beef that you can bite thru without resistance is lacking something. Am I crazy? I guess what I'm referering to is the sensation that true canivores get when they bite into something and when holding the food put their teeth in and pull thier head away similar to the motion a lion makes at the site of the kill. You will never get the perfect sandwich and my complaint is perhaps why Nick's is so popular. Sure their parking is lacking, it may be out of the way for some but it is still exceptional in the ways that count. Further, and I mean this from my heart, every other roast beef stand on the Northshore has its own drawbacks not enough meat, overcooked, cold. The best have only one drawback. Seen what all the buzz was about, can't tell if people have bad taste in food or not, the roast beef texture was okay, but the taste was bland/flavorless, the fries got cold instantly, their onion rings batter fell apart, they were also cold, the salad wasn't that special. It's not that special, don't listen to phantom gourmet, they're more of an advertisement for restaurants type of thing. Nick's as everyone knows north of Boston is an institution. Great food for the hungry/hungover regardless of what day of the week it is.

By far and without question - the BEST roast beef on the N Shore, and probably in all of Massachusetts. I've been coming regularly for the last 14 years and they have always been consistantly great. The roast beef is always tender - never dry or chewy. Terrific onion rings and a fabulous Greek salad. I am so glad I moved to Beverly to be near this place. One more thing - you're always treated well when you go there - staff is super nice and treats you like they're glad you're there. read more

I agree that the roast beef is great but I was in the mood for a fish sandwich yesterday and I was VERY disappointed. I expected a real piece of fish but instead it was made from a frozen rectangular fish product. MacDonald's 'fillet of fish' is much better and costs a lot less! Went here last night and got a super beef and a super beef dinner with all fries and 2 sides of horseradish sauce. The fries were cold and limpy and my sides of horseradish sauce were missing. So I called in wasn't angry or anything because I work in a similar field so I know how it can be, simply asked if I could come up and grab the horseradish sauce and another fry because mine were cold and I offered to bring the others back. First when the phone was answered by who I would assume was the manager on duty I was rudely spoken to and asked "How I would like to handle this?!" pretty off putting being someone who works with the general public this isn't really an appropriate way to talk to someone who is giving you their money. Then I drive back to Beverly from Gloucester to pick up the horseradish that was missing and the new set of fries. Upon arriving there I was told that took me quite a while to get back up there I apologized and explained that I had a long drive to get back there. Then they re-fired the fries because "We don't want them to be cold for you" was sarcastically said to me. I brushed it off no biggie they were busier than when I had originally ordered. Then as I'm standing waiting a group of employees went out into the room in the back and were obviously talking about me because every time something was said they looked around the corner directly at me making eye contact. And who doesn't do that when they are dealing with a "difficult" customer. So the fries are done I thank them for redoing them for me and giving me the horseradish sauce and I leave. Once I got back to my house in Gloucester I finally sit down to eat and I open the horseradish sauce and both had either been completely dumped out or they were previously used. I was completely appalled by the lack of customer service. Being someone who works in that field I know how it is to deal with customers and everything but you never retaliate. They don't know who I am I could've been someone important for all they know. For being a "famous" roast beef place their customer service is less then famous. I will not be going back and I will go to the best underrated roast beef in Gloucester at Supreme's Roast Beef! read more

Flew in from Baltimore this morning starving my face off. It was suggested by my sister to hit up NIck's in Beverly. Since I've never met a Roast Beef Sandwhich I didn't like I was easily convinced. Upon arriving to the "Hidden Jewel" I was thrown off by their cash only policy as I had just spent 4 bucks on airport oatmeal only four hours earlier. To no avail we were able to scrap together enough loose change to meet the bill. It's a good thing we weren't at that "other"place on the beach that charges a fortune for a sangi. So after a little drama we settled into our seats with some O-Rings a JR and a Super. Not one bite into it my sisters sangi fell through the space in between the tables and plopped to the floor. There was a moment when we both thought if it would still be ok to eat but before we could embarass ourselves any more, the kind employees stepped in and immediately served her another on the house. So you're probably wondering what the point of this blurb is....remember when I said I never met a Roast Beef Sangi I didn't like? Well from here on out it will be I've never met a Roast Beef Sangi as good as Nick's. read more

Meh- I mean it was not horrible but it was not great. I ordered a roast beef plate. The roast beef was well done and chewy - the fries/onion rings were good but I had no more than 3 bites of salad and it was only lettuce, no cucs no tomatoes, nothing and to boot they gave me the wrong dressing. Overall not that impressed. As usual when a place gets attention, they go downhill. read more

Best Roast Beef. I grew up eating roast beef all the time, and all the places I've had it were pretty much the same. I never really thought there was too much differentiating one from another until I came here. This made me realize that every other place I had been eating this stuff was second class, and while they were all the same, this was something different. Absolutely delicious Beef Sandwiches! Stopped in for take-out Saturday evening. The place was buzzing yet the line moved quickly. I had a Super roast beef and my companion a Junior roast beef. The sandwiches were melt in your mouth good. We did not try any sides, yet judging by customers in line, the other sandwiches and sides were very popular. Next time we hope that we can sit and stay and enjoy one of their sandwich platters. Great spot! read more
