**** CORONADO location**** The staff needs some refresher course on good Customer Service skills! Check your staff schedule on 5/26/14 around 2:30pm (the greeter and server at the patio bar).... Our first experience: -we requested to be seated outside the patio, greeter told us to wait... -we saw two empty seats at the patio, we asked if we can sit and greeter said "go ahead and I'll bring you menus." -we sat......and waited.....and waited....and waited for a staff to at least clear the used glasses in front of us....until I had to move it on the side.....and oh waited for 15 minutes for the menus -menus were finally given to us, now we had to wait again for drinks to be ordered...and again we waited....and waited....finally our not so friendly server came to us...and drinks were ordered! We ended up ordering Pastrami sandwich with garlic fries....and of course, we waited again...2nd drink ordered...and waited.....AGAIN! -OK, food arrived, and before we started eating, I requested for napkins...server passed by us said "I'll be right with you"....so, (you know what I was going to say, huh?) waited again....well, we were hungry and started to take a bite, thinking that napkins were coming...well, we finished our sandwiches and fries, and of course we were still waiting for the napkins! Then, we saw another server walked by us with red paper napkins on her hands....we had to asked for it!!! Wow! -Oh, oh now our not so friendly server is now smiling at us...can you guess why? Was in the area with my young, obviously disabled son who needed to use the restroom badly, and the girl controlling the entrance wouldn't let me take him in to do so, so I had to run holding him to another place. Unfortunately he wet himself, which ruined the outing with me that he'd looked forward to so much. You can imagine what I think of this place. The girl at the door had said that he couldn't go in because the place had a bar. This happened today, July 12, 2012, at around eight PM. If I could give it zero stars I would. Very disappointed with the service here. My boyfriend and I brought his service dog with us and they refused to let us sit inside with him. Instead the hostess (who was also very rude) said it is their policy to require proof that he is a service animal, which public places are not allowed to do under the ADA (public places can only ask what service the animal provides). There are many bar and grills out there that service and food are okay did, but what makes them stand apart are signature drinks and at Nicky's they have created almost perfected the jalapeno margarita. If you're on the island, I would recommend you stopped by there for a quick refreshing drink. But if you're looking for amazing food or good service I would stay clear from there. read more

Really wish I could give this place as good of a review as the one in Downtown... But I just can't bring myself to do it! I love the burgers at Nicky Rottens in Downtown, but the burgers here were just ok. But the real reason this place is getting only two stars is not because of the food but because of the pathetic attempt at service we had. It was bad. Horribly bad. Our server was ridiculously slow. We never got our drinks refilled she never came by to ask how the food was or to even agknowlegde that we exsisted. Finally after we had been finished with our food for a good thirty minutes the busser came by to get our plates and we had to ask him to ask our waitress to bring us the check. So she dropped the check off without a word and NEVER came back... 10 minutes... 15 minutes... 25 minutes go by and finally we just got up and gave it to her so she could run our card so we could finally leave. I would say stick to Nicky's downtown... The view may not be as nice... but the servers can actually do their jobs. read more

If you drive the 11,179 feet from San Diego(down town) over the Coronado Bridge you'll end up on the beautiful island of Coronado. Coronado is an affluent resort city and it is listed as one of the most expensive places to live in the United States by U.S. News and World. It is a lovely place to stay or visit and has some beautiful walks, beaches, cycles and some pretty good eateries. So onto Nicky Rottens; Location wise its easy to find (right on 1st and Orange), there isn't a parking lot but there is plenty of on street parking. Did I want to like this place??? Hmmm the Mafioso style, the Italian style name and theme (despite serving American bar food), it was all a bit gimmicky and quirky for me on first impression. (Especially for an island with the high-class atmosphere of Coronado). This, on the outset, seems to be just another sports bar.... Big screen televisions, showing several different sports, servers wearing short black shorts and stockings (ok if that's your thing), a good range of beers, and liquor. I would recommend the Stone IPA, Blue Moon or the Firestone Walker Hefeweizen. Nicky Rottens staff, even the door staff were very friendly and I was welcomed at the bar by my server, I was poured a glass of iced water and asked what, if any, drink I would like. I opted for the Hefeweizen (A Firestone brewed wheat beer) and it was delightful. The menu has a great selection of bar type foods ( all with their very own "Nicky Rottens" twist). I have had the wings here before and if you're in the mood for an "Rotten Starter" or just a snack, I would recommend these. They arent anything your going to put on a postcard but they are saucy and tasty. Having carried out some research on several sites and after some "word on the street" I decided to order a burger, but which one; 14 different choices on the menu and, going by the description, each one made my mouth begin to water. Right, I'll start with the easier decision....... What will I have as a side; the choices are fries, onion rings, fried zucchini slices, tater tots, garlic fries, sweet potato fries or salad...... phew!!! I'm keeping it simple and opting for the fries, and for my burger I'm going for the "Rottens Peppercorn Burger." This contains a Brandt Beef Patty, Swiss cheese, sautéed onions, mushrooms, all topped with a Brandy spiked peppercorn sauce (on a bun)....... I know, sounds awesome. I was even more delighted when asked the most important burger question on the planet "How would you like your burger cooked?" I very nearly wept with happiness. I ordered my burger medium rare and continued to enjoy my Hefeweizen. The server still checking I had all I needed, in a very friendly manner. My burger arrived and my mouths watering had evolved into full-blown salivation. The burger bun was excellent holding all the contents together nicely. The burger wasn't oozing grease and it wasn't drowned in peppercorn sauce. On first look, I couldn't have wished for it any better. I bit into the meaty mouthful and the flavors exploded in my mouth, the swiss cheese, the peppercorn sauce, the taste from the meat all complimenting each other perfectly. I then looked at where I'd bitten into and smiled as I saw my burger was cooked to perfection. Medium rare pink with just a little juice coming from the beefy goodness. The fries were nothing spectacular, a bit too salty for me, so the majority got left. But to be honest after the burger I would have probably struggled to eat them anyway. To be honest I wasn't really caring by this point, the burger had more than won the battle, and my heart (and stomach) were happy. Did I want to like this place...... honestly, No. Did I like this place; YES, YES, YES! This is the best burger I've had so far. I wouldn't go as far to say that this is San Diego's best burger but, ladies and gentlemen, it's certainly up there. I've been living in San Diego ever since I was born and I've been to many burger joints before. Nicky Rotten's however is by far hands down the best one I've been to out of all of the others. Coronado never ceases to amaze me. It may look like an average sports bar both on the inside and outside which it is but it honestly didn't matter to me. Their daily specials are really good especially the one I got for today. Today's special was 10% off their burger of the day which was, in my case, the maui wowi burger. The bun is excellent, the meat is so tender, and the fries were just plain awesome. That was for my entrée. For the appetizer, I shared with my family these carne asada tots. It's tater tots topped with obviously carne asada and other toppings you would normally see in carne asada fries. Overall, I can honestly and most definitely say that Nicky Rotten's is my favorite burger that I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Thanks for having me. They refuse to split a check. With modern point of sale restaurant software this is not a hard thing to do. Instead you are encouraged to use the ATM, and pay the $3.00 service fee. This is not a limitation, rather a decision made by the management. I will not return, and I will encourage others at my work to not go there either. We go here all the time now! We were a little annoyed this past Sunday because they don't have a permit to serve alcohol outdoors yet, and with the games on inside, there weren't any tables available, but somehow they got us in quickly from outdoors so we could have a beer (well my husband could have a beer) with the game! So it's a busy Friday night, we're here on vacation and want something decent but not overpriced for dinner. We walked the block and everywhere had a long wait apart from Nicky Rottens..which was pretty much empty.....I wonder why?....Well it looked ok. The menu looked ok, I was really in the mood for a good fish and chips. I asked the friendly (and very pretty) server if the fish was fresh. She replied "you mean caught this morning?"......Of course I meant not from frozen. She said she didn't know, so I ordered a burger instead. We waited a good 20 minutes for our food to arrive, which seemed odd since the restaurant wasn't at all busy. I figure that most of our food took a lot less than 20 mins because when it arrived 3 out of 5 dishes were luke-warm. I ate less than half of my burger. It was literally dripping with grease, and so greasy I actually had to leave the table to go to the restroom and wash my hands of the grease with soap n water. The rest of my family felt their food was mediocre (even with cold fries). My Dad's salad looked fine, but it's hard to fudge a green salad... Our server was very friendly, that's the only positive I had. Moral of this story is: If you find only one restaurant in a busy block which is mostly empty, there's a reason why. The service at this place is horrible! We were staying in Coronado this past Saturday night to see the Chargers game that Sunday and went out to check out the Coronado bar scene. After walking around a bit, Nicky Rottens seemed like a good place to grab a burger and some beers. We ended up getting the Turkey Sliders and a Turkey Burger with tator tots. The food was actually pretty good. It just took quite a well before we were even acknowledged that we were waiting for menus. Our drink orders were taken right then, but then it took a while for us to get our food orders. I'm really forgiving when it comes to the quality of the food if the service is great. I would give the food 4/5 stars and the service 2/5 stars which is why I'm giving Nicky Rottens 3/5 stars. read more

Came to this spot that my sis randomly selected because she had a great experience with the Nicky Rottens in Rancho SD. We were celebrating my nephew's bday and having somewhat of a family reunion since we are all so busy with life and getting us all in one spot for an evening is a rarity. Not a fan. NOT AT ALL A FAN. I at least anticipate the bare minimum at any dining establishment. Here is a list that I hope the folks at NR can utilize as a guide or tool to assist with their success: - Wife and I walk in, no door host or hostess, greeter, or sign that was noticeable to "SEAT YOURSELF". No biggie, walked in and immediately found our party. - Server started off great, although I/we never got her name until I received the bill. She never checked our ID's and rule of thumb in the industry is to literally card everyone that appears 30 and under - I am 99% certain we appear under 30. Would if we were Vice or ABC? Anyways, drinks were definitely delivered quickly and were tasty. - Ordered wings as apps for the family and asked our server to check back with me in a few minutes so I can place my order. Ten minutes later, I had to hunt her down to get my order in. Thankfully for great conversation and a few Mules for me, we were able to kill a half an hour or so before realizing "Wow, the food takes a long while... And it's not very busy at all in the restaurant." - After 30+ minutes of waiting, the food all comes out... Still no wings. After everyone had a few bites, out come the wings. I whispered to the server that the wings were supposed to be out FIRST. She replied "Yes, it should've... I'm not sure why they didn't." - Minutes later, my food arrives. I always saw a Nicky Rottens when I'd be out-and-about in Downtown and thought "this must be a great burger spot". Words cannot express the disappointment I was eating. Very bland, dry, and thin burger. Not juicy, not seasoned. The only flavor it had was the pastrami on the burger and even that looked as if the meat was carved with a butterknife. The sweet potato fries everyone had was definitely on point... Very good. - Server did do a great job at checking on drinks. - My sister ordered a salad with diet specifications on it - no cheese. It came out with cheese, had to be sent back, and she had to wait an additional 5+ minutes for her food. - Received the bill. Tipped 17%. Still a decent tip considering the ticket times for our food, delivery times, food quality, mistakes, etc. I received a "Thanks" under the server's breath with NO SMILE. This sealed the deal on me NEVER returning to Nicky Rottens in Coronado and possibly any others as this place literally left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't feel welcomed to come back anyways. - As for the gentleman that appeared to be the MOD (Manager on Duty), you represent the brand! You HAVE to be aware of long ticket times and table touching with guests to ensure everyone is okay and at least rectify when service is subpar. If you are completely unaware of your surroundings, then your staff may need to work on communication with you... Or vice versa. Came for a drink and appetizers! It was during happy hour so all of the appetizers were half off. I really enjoyed the chicken tenders. The nachos however were cold and the cheese was sort of gross. I think it may have been waiting for the tender plate to finish, so it had sat in the cold and was not improved for it. Also, they spilled ranch on about 1/4 of the fries with the chicken tenders, which made them soggy. I was not a fan and don't eat my fries with ranch dressing, so would have appreciated a better separated serving of fries. However, overall this was a fun places eat and drink a little when the brewery down the way was too busy to seat us. read more

I've been wanting to try Nicky Rottens for some time so I finally went with some friends on Sat 8/12 for lunch and drinks. We were greeted by the door and made our way to the bar where we met Kimberley the bartender. Kimberley was absolutely AWESOME! She was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, funny and made us feel comfortable like we were regulars. Being our first time she walked us through the food menu and made great drink suggestions. We tried the White Peach Mule (super refreshing), Coronado Orange Ave. Wit & Modern Times Blazing World. Great beer selection and tasty cocktails. We ordered the fried zucchini with cucumber wasabi (very tasty) and shared the Famous Rotten Burger, Bacavo Burger & their 'Tons of Fun' Pastrami Burger. All were juicy with great flavor. Came here last weekend with some friends for drinks and apps. Even though it was packed, we were immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. The food was great (loved the wings), the drinks were AMAZING, and the service excellent. Even though they were slammed, Kimber made us feel welcome and was very attentive - something rare nowadays. She was running around doing everything for everyone but still was incredibly friendly and took her time to make sure our party was satisfied. No joke, literally the worst service I've ever encountered! Sat down at 1:45. At 2:30 a table next to us got their appetizer and they sat down a half hour after us. Well it would've helped if it didn't take over 20 minutes for our server to come by. When the mgr came by to do a table touch, we told him about our appetizer. He went straight back to the kitchen and never came out with our food. 10 minutes later we asked a server what happened to our tater tots (shouldn't this only take a couple of minutes on the fly?). Nicky rottens is a good name, because this place was rotten! The service was horrible and unbearable, both over the phone and in person. I made a reservation for 6 at 8pm, but called back to chnage it to 730 for 4, and was told we dont make reservations, I said what are you talking about, I already did? The food was disgusting and tasted like something I could get at a cafeteria when I was in grade school, and it was cold. I had an issue so I asked for the manager Matt who not only blamed me for the issue, although I did nothing wrong, his service staff had, but he was unprofessional, impersonal, not willing to help or solve the issue, and basically treated me as though I did something wrong.
