Oh golly gee whiz!!! Boy o' boy did this place disappoint! We were in need of a quick bite and I had recalled walking by this place and noticed their post of selling carne asada tacos and burritos. Outside their establishment they have pictures of sandwiches which they boast about being the best in town. So we walked in looking for the food counter and were directed to place our food order at main store counter, so we did. I walked back to the food area to wait for my food and was left wondering if there was anyone in the back even taking the food orders. I wondered because I didn't hear any sizzling, any clacking on a grill. There was no food aromas in the air besides the pizza they had under the food warmer. My husband got to sneak a peak in and saw a woman sitting behind a counter preparing something and he told me to be prepared to be disappointed due to seeing food being heated in microwave. Our tacos and burrito were ordered to consist of carne asada yet the meat had the texture amd flavor of ground beef. WHAT? WHY? The tortillas used for the tacos appeared to be a flour and corn tortilla mix. I was really looking forward to oily corn tortillas. Did we eat the food? This place makes some delicious sandwiches and for a fairly good price considering Coronado prices. My husband, the boys and I ordered 2 full sandwiches. The Super Orange Ave Italian- this one was my favorite. There very various meats of good portion and a healthy portion of vegetables (as you can see I'm the photos). The sauce was the perfect amount as it did not make the sandwich too soggy but stay moist and delicious. The California Club- I wouldn't change anything in this sandwich. Again there were great portions of meat, veggies, and the right amount of moisture. My boys shared this one and they absolutely enjoyed it. This is a great spot to pick up sandwiches when you need it quick and convenient. It was so easy when I ordered ahead on Yelp. We got the club, spicy chicken, meatball and the Coronado. They were all really good. I never order meatball sandwiches, but I just might start after trying theirs. The sauce and meatballs were so tasty. What I liked was it wasn't messy, which was a plus since we were doing a picnic off the bike path in Coronado. My son got the spicy chicken and he loved it so much he didn't share it with anybody. Based on how we were being ignored and not even greeted by the sandwich worker, that gave us the hint to order up front where you would buy liquor. They didn't even ask what else we wanted on the sandwich. 3) Related to that: What is up with the little sandwich area being completely plastered with menus and other crap to where you cannot even see the little kitchen area where they're making your sandwich, and can't really see the employee either. I ordered a few times from here from Grub hub. This islander burrito is totally phenomenal. I could only finish half of it. I have another half for another time. Is packed full of meat. Wow, this Deli is a hidden gem! What from the outside appears to be a well stocked liquor store is a very nice deli indeed and has a couple of tables for outdoor seating. I went there with my mom and her friend during a road trip. We each took a whole breakfast sandwich in a roll which was prepared fresh. They packed the 2 half's seperatly which proofed to be the right decision as we could only finish the first half as it was a lot of food and that for just below 8$ each sandwich. It was also easy to get one of them customized to be vegetarian and they added a lot of extra veggies to substitute for the sausage, ham and bacon! They also have a bunch of inexpensive Mexican food that looked good but we did not try that as we already had so much the days before. When I ate the 2nd part of the sandwich later it was still amazing. I will come again next time I am in town. read more

This is a hole in the wall kind of place.. it's basically a gas station (Minus the gas) BUT trust me the burritos are amazing! We love the Islander Breakfast Burrito without the ham (extra carne asada) and it's delicious. We've tried it with ham before and we didn't like it as much. Ordered from Avenue Subs on a whim after getting off a flight at Sand Diego Airport - I'm new to San Diego so I made it a point to eat local and stray away from chain restaurants.. best decision made. I was craving a tuna sandwich, and I believe that's how I stumbled upon this place. Let me start off by saying how nice everyone in the store was. We felt welcome, and had a few laughs after a 16 hour flight time. As our sandwiches were being finished up (we ordered through YELP) we browsed the store and got some gelato pops, they have a huge selection. They were just as good as the rest of our food. My husband and I are huge tuna fans so we can be particular with what a tuna sandwich is and what a GOOD tuna sandwich is. The bacon on this sandwich complimented it entirely along with the mayo to tuna ratio... I still believe Nathan uses a special sauce he isn't telling us about. We also got the meatball sub, we ended up splitting that for dinner. The amount of meatballs we got was surprising. They don't go light on proportions here and that's the way it should be! Lastly, on our order was a chicken quesadilla, the flavor that was brought through to our taste buds along with the cheese was incredibly pleasant. I think it's save to safe you can't go wrong ordering any item at this place! We live in Escondido, about 40 ish minutes away from Coronado Beach and we are on our way back to Avenue Subs to get our tuna fix!
