Very disappointing experience at Nigel's. We waited a long time for our food, and when it finally arrived, the chicken was **raw** and unsafe to eat. The manager, **Deandrea (Dee)**, was short and dismissive and showed little concern over a serious food-safety issue. However, the **chef did come out to apologize** and showed far more concern, which I appreciated. Mistakes happen, but the lack of proper management response made this experience unacceptable. I originally booked after seeing on Instagram that "Glinda" from Wicked would be making an appearance for Saturday brunch, and I struck gold getting a reservation for my daughter's birthday. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive, which made the whole experience feel extra special. Glinda was truly the star of the show--absolutely made for the role. She stayed in character the entire time and was completely top-notch. I have dined at Nigel a couple of times. One was my friends 50th birthday where we ended up occupying 2 of the large Cabanas. It was suprising how quick they served our food and drinks. Wow! I have to admit, after seeing the amazing pictures I kind of assumed the experience couldn't be that good. I was so happy to be proved wrong! The food was excellent. We ordered the ahi tuna salad and the lobster eggs Benedict. We also had a several drinks, the cosmopolitan, a pineapple mimosa, and the sangria. They were all delicious and SO beautiful. The service was wonderful. I drink a lot of water, especially when I'm eating, so I often judge the service by how full my water glass stays, and the server offered when the glass was only half empty. I have zero complaints and will definitely be back with more girlfriends!! Men may be put off by the amount of pink (which can I just say again how much I LOVE the vibe here) but tbh I kind of love that there's a place just for women to celebrate or hang out. I came here on opening night on Wednesday. This place is so cutely decorated in all shades of pinkalicious hues. The restaurant is right along the water where the boats are docked. The highlight was getting to meet the owner Nigel himself who was walking around to meet and greet each table. He was so personable and kind. Very charismatic and sauve. He made us feel so welcomed until the very end especially because we were celebrating 2x birthdays that night. The food was great overall. I had the Salmon with the crispy skin with mash potatoes. This restaurant is absolutely adorable and very aesthetic. The waterfront location and pink decor make it such a cute spot, and I can definitely see why people come here for brunch and photos. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. We waited quite a while to be seated because one of the hosts told us to wait to get seated but never took my name down. I followed up twice, and eventually another employee told us they weren't even aware we were waiting to be seated. After ordering, our food came out at completely different times. One person's meal never arrived until everyone else had already finished eating. We asked to cancel the missing plate since there was no point bringing it out so late, but we were still charged for it and had to spend additional time getting the bill corrected. The restroom was also out of toilet paper, and my friend had to pass me some from her stall because there wasn't any available. It's a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere, but the lack of organization and service made what should have been a fun brunch pretty frustrating. I hope they improve these issues because the location and ambiance have so much potential. read more

TL:DR - Food is mediocre, at best; service is TERRIBLE; "manager" has no business in hospitality whatsoever. Joined my wife and a friend for a few drinks and appetizers last night after they had been there for a bit. They ordered a few appetizers before I arrived. Charcuterie plate was ok, cured meat and cheese looked like they picked it up at Ralph's when they ordered it, grocery store quality and definitely not worth the premium price attached. Other two appetizers (artichoke dip, crab cakes) were definitely store bought and prepared by Chef Mike, AKA the microwave. Artichoke dip wasn't inedible, if you were starving with zero other options. No flavor, bland, just pathetic really. The chips were surprisingly good, however, they are the same chips you can get at any grocery store. Crab cakes were stringy mushy balls that had a resemblance to crab, or a random seafood flavor. Again, sad and pathetic with zero discernable pieces of actual crab. You may not get sick from eating the food, but it's not worth it. Place was pretty empty, maybe 6-8 tables with about as many employees working in the front of the house yet it took 10, 15, sometimes 20 minutes to get anyone's attention to order a drink. There was no server and got to the point we had to interrupt whoever was ringing in other tables orders to get anything or any service, of course they were rude and blaming everyone else in the restaurant. Watched most of the "servers" making cocktails behind the bar and the completed drinks sitting just on the bar for at least 10-15 minutes before anyone would pick them up. Tried to speak with the "manager" about the lack of service and she told us the restaurant works at a team and there are no servers dedicated to an area or table. Instead of trying to listen to the issues where they may have messed up, she just gave us the "ugh, what do you want me to take off the bill" rather than trying to address the core problems. We mentioned that they may want to rethink the business model because, from a consumer's point of view (and our first impression of the place,) the service was just absolutely terrible. "Manager" had a shitty and disrespectful attitude and again tried to place blame on everyone else, zero accountability for her, and her staff's piss poor service and attitudes. At some point I started looking for cameras and trying to see where Ashton Kutcher was hiding because I thought we were being "punked." There is no way this was just an "off day" for the place. There was either a concerted effort to be terrible, or they have zero clue what they are doing with no desire to even try to rectify their shortcomings. The service was something you'd expect at a place like Dick's Last Resort, or the Karen pop-up restaurants. Obviously, we're never going back. Had the manager been a decent human being and not been completely rude and disrespectful, we would have just let it go. Now, I, and I'm sure the others in the party will advocate that nobody ever goes and eats there again. Save yourself the agony and visit Tantalum next door instead. MUCH better food/service. This is also the place that rents the pink and white Duffy boats to anyone with a Driver's License and a credit card. As someone who is on the water in and around Alamitos Bay at least three days a week, the rental service is even more negligent that the restaurant. We've seen countless Duffy's on the water being operated by folks who have zero knowledge of how to safely operate a boat, that are belligerently drunk and littering, and packed so full that there is no way they are under the weight limit for the Duffy. Just an epic clown show of a place. They care more about Instagram vibes and views instead of the product and people working there. read more

If you are going solely for ambiance and photo op then this is a great place. The food wasn't too bad it was pretty good overall. However, the service was probably the worst I've had in awhile. It took forever to get our cocktails and while the waiter kept stating the bar was backed up I couldn't help but notice tons of drinks just waiting for servers to grab at the bar so seemed more of a waiter issue not bartender. I'd love to come back but in talking with others they have had the same experience everytime they have been so doesn't seem this was a one off I was hoping for. read more

I had an amazing time with my mom. We both had chicken picatta which was breaded chicken fillet along with linguine pasta topped with a lemon caper sauce. Both of them were very attentive and as a nice grand opening promo we were able to ride on a duffy boat. Location can be found in the parking garage...you can park in the Ralphs parking garage and get access close by. As soon as we we arrived I walked up to the check in booth for our reservation and the greeter was not welcoming, neither a hello or thank you for coming. She seemed confused and flustered with the reservation system and where to place us. I patiently waited and we were accommodated shortly after by someone wearing all black so i'm assuming a lead staff, secondly when it was time to go for our duffy ride, we asked one of the hostess standing by the coffee trailer where the waiting area was and she was dismissive and rude and pointed to the location quickly and turned her back on us. We ended up finding the waiting area but I was disappointed by her reaction. As for our duffy ride, our captain was friendly and knowledgable. He put some great tunes on and we even stopped by and saw some moon jellies!! Other than the negative interactions from the two hostess, i'll come back again and give them another try, hopefully they'll work on friendlier greeters. **Definitely make a reservation to guarantee a table. read more

So I took my BFF here last night to celebrate her birthday. Very cute ambiance, almost reminded me of a more modern take of The Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Anyway, very cool vibe with a pink and green theme everywhere and diners also dressed in pink. Mostly crowded although the outside tables were available but at that time of the early evening, still direct my in the sun so not a good option at that time. They did initially try to set us in a corner table long the outside dining on the corner which would have been a perfect spot..... in like an hour after they seated us (our reservation was for 6). The food was very good, my friend got the trio plate while I got the sea bass. For drinks, she got the lemon drop while I got the old fashioned. So that was all the positive points. The not so positive points are these: - Was not too impressed with the old fashioned, supposed to be smoked but it didn't taste like it and the pours were a little stingy - Our waitress would ghost us at the most inopportune time, like when she dropped off the birthday dessert but no spoons. By the time we got someone else to get spoons , the ice cream was melted, kind of ruined what should have been a nice experience. They have floating tables but they are not yet available for use, and lots of duffys to rent if you wanted to take a ride and even eat while enjoying the boat ride. The Mac & cheese was well made and for $15 extra you can add lobster. The Admiral Salmon was great the sweet and salty and tangy balances it out. During Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning there are free complimentary boat rides a beautiful scenery. (Sometimes they end early so accommodate with the staff) The service is exceptional, everybody has been accommodating and very kind. Came here on valentine's day pre fixed menu. The menu selections weren't bad. Got the sassy something drink it was good. We got the oysters as a starter. They were okay but hard to enjoy everytime i ate it I got huge pieces of shell along with it. The filet mignon medium rare with some veggies and mash the usual it was okay as well cooked pretty good. The chocolate lava cake topped with some vanilla ice cream was surprisingly good. They have snake plants all along the back wall im not sure if thats attracting more flies but I had to kill so many fruit flies during my dinner. It was hard to enjoy theyd swarm as I was eating was getting really annoying. Service wasnt bad but it wasnt great either lol. I know people probably dread working valentine's day. Also at end of my dinner we got on the Duffy boat which was a nice surprise. There were 2 hosts the first one was okayish. So..hate to be the Karen but the only thing good about this place is, no fee to park! Made reservations for their little table on the water. Arrived and they said it's for the restaurant. We clearly showed the confirmed reservation with water. Our 1st waitress arrives and tells us that the water table is only for drinks and appetizers, but doesn't say that when you make the reservation! 2nd, our drinks took over 40min to arrive. Our food was provided prior to our drinks!! But, they all were very good. 3rd, THEY REALLY need to figure out some AC/fan ventilation. I saw this spot on IG looking for something unique for my lady's birthday day. The location is tricky, but we found it in the garage area. The entrance was very cool and my lady love it, because pink lol. Plus the restaurant is on the water can't beat the view. Came here to celebrate a friend's bday. We got here half hour earlier than our reservation time and they were able to seat us right away. Our server, Anna, was very accommodating. She gave us the brunch menu because they didn't serve lunch until 2:30pm (good to know for next time). We ordered drinks and some appetizers and waited until 2:30pm to order from the lunch menu. She also gave us some recommendations and are very helpful with all our questions. Food was pretty good and the drinks were amazing. Place is super cute. Go from the parking lot by the Nordstrom Rack and descend the stairs to the left, look for the tiny pink trailer sign ahead. We had reservations at 2:15 and we were not seated until 3 PM when we got seated there was no greeting from any waiter, We were waiting around for a good while until we had to flag someone down to come take our drink and appetizer order. We were at Nigel's celebrating our friend's birthday. We brought a cake with us, the cake was never taken to the back by any waiter, but to our surprise we were charged a $25 cake service fee for literally nothing. They didn't bring us any new plates or candles or assisted us in any way. We had to flag someone down to give us our bill and then again for someone to run our card. I came to Nigels for Valentine's with a group of 5 of us. We rented a cabana and the view was beautiful! It was a nice warm day so it was perfect sitting outside. The only complaint I have is I ordered a drink, in which the bartender brought to my table and asked "did someone order the "name of the drink" I was with my friends and we were in the middle on a conversation to which I turned and jokingly said "I think that's mine" the bartender then turned to us and said "did you order this drink or not bc if you did not and you drink it, you're going to have to pay for it" I thought that was very unnecessary to say in that tone and with that kind of attitude. I let it go bc she was clearly having a bad day. I think you should advise your staff to think about other words they can use, and the way they approach customers.
