Great breads cheeses and desserts. They usually have a specialty bread they switch up each week which is always worth trying.

Living in Sebastopol we stopped by try Nightingale after our walk on the W County trail. We bought and enjoyed a loaf of rosemary focaccia (about $6). The cost was fair and a good value. We added their cookie pack for our pack lunch. $6 for the 6- 2" bite size cookies will probably be past over on our next time we stop by Nightingale. read more

The cinnamon roll was disappointing. Very dry and not a single raisin to be found. I don't know what some people see in them. Stellina Pronto far exceeds and for that matter so did my grandmother's home cooked cinnamon rolls. I wish Stellina were closer. read more

Meh. Pretty un-sour sourdough bread, I wanted to try it. The sourdough is really for folks who enjoy light sour... not me, I'll make my own bread at home. $9. a loaf is a bit steep, though I understand how prices of ingredients and workers are these days. All the best to them. read more

I discovered Nightingale when searching for a good local source of challah. I emailed to ask if they were planning to make round loaves for Rosh Hashanah, and was told they would make some for me--and when I showed up, I saw that they had made more round loaves in case others wanted them for the holiday, which I thought was really cool. The challah is, without question, the best I've ever eaten. It's so good. It even smells amazing. I also picked up a loaf of the whole-grain seeded, which usually isn't my thing (I'm trying to eat healthier) but I loved that as well. read more

Uhh we just had a socially distant/SIP stay in Forestville and we decided we'd try out Nightingale Breads based on its reviews. It didn't disappoint. Happy to support that and the Forestville Farmers' Market too! We visited twice on the fly (the 2nd time, my husband really wanted their great baguettes, but the customer ahead of them just got the last 3 available), and the 3rd time, we were happy to take advantage of the advance order online. A few items were already sold out, but we were happy to get some goodies -- rosemary focaccia, seed nut sourdough (sliced), sourdough loaf, Journeyman's salami, plum amaretto jam. We wish we could've gotten another chocolate zucchini bread, and also tried the cinnamon rolls. And I apologize for being a dimwit -- they have a good ordering setup with the glass/acrylic window in front to keep both sides safe. But I kept bending my head down to talk to the cashier when I didn't need to, which invalidated the whole setup. I was wearing my mask, of course! This is a cool little bread bakery. The bread is very good and the pull apart loaf's are awesome of which you can only get those on Saturdays. They are only open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Stop by and check it out. Best bakery! Epi and gingerbread loaf are a must have b4 u die! Epi is chewy, flavorful with roasted sesame seeds. Better than Acme! Gingerbread is dark, spicy, and utterly addictive. Oh my. What a revelation. You know a place has a good thing going when people show up early, get in line and load up on hot delicious bread. Unlike another local business with horrendously overpriced and bad tasting pies, Nightingale Breads is wonderful. I purchased a small seasoned baguette in the morning. I went back in the afternoon to get more bread. Most of it was gone. I didn't care, I got whatever they had because the bread is delicious. The crust is perfect. It smells heavenly. You can see the bead being baked in the oven. The staff is very nice. Prices are very good. And they told me they change up the breads with different ingredients. I think I am in Love. read more

This is the best bread I have eaten bar none. Bread is easily my favorite food and I have tried so many different bakeries around the bay area and none are as good as Nightingale. Everything they make is top notch. From the foccacia to the seasonal pumpkin bread and of course the baguette. This baguette is phenolinlan just perfection in bread form. The staff is amazing as well. From the owner on down everyone is super friendly and helpful. The bread here is well worth an hour plus drive in my opinion. However if you do have a drive of that length you better buy extra as there is no way you will be able to avoid eating some on the way home. If there is a single complaint it would be that they sell out so get here early. Well I guess they could also sell a magically refilling baguetter bag but i think the tech for that is a few years off yet. Come to Nightingale and get the best bread you have ever eaten. Seriously i could not recommend this bread any higher. Words do not properly express how good it is. read more

Simply the best bread in the county. No, it doesn't have goat cheese and candied walnuts and dried cranberries and strips of organically harvested kale feathers crammed into a loaf which is then topped with a light seasoning of Indonesian sea-salt and the whole thing costs $13. No, the hours aren't very accommodating or easy to understand, but you can pre-order loaves if you need to and pick them up that day to make up for the weird times/being totally sold out when you arrive. No, you can't buy it in Whole Foods (for a 100% markup) so you're actually going to have to drive to Forestville to get it but this is a small business run by one woman and a small staff. This is real bread made the way it should be - it's simple and delicious and reasonably priced. Asking for more seems unhealthy. read more

Love this place. I think it's the best bread in Sonoma county. So why 4 stars not 5? Product deserves 5 , but funky days and hours plus not being able to buy it else where merits 4 stars. I love the bread here. i moved out to the 707 last July and went through this long period of trying to find the best/right bread. Tried Raymonds, Villiage, Wild Flour , and other numerous stuff I could find in all the local small food markets. After 4 months of carb loading hell, the night in shinning armor (ok, admitedley corny)) has surfaced and it is Nightengale. Beth's crusty type breads like the Epi and Forrestville French have the perfect density inside, the crispy but tender crust, and just the right amount of subtle fire you get from the way she bakes the bread. Even better, is the sliced seeded sourdough loaves. I make sandwiches which will rival $14 ones found in hoity-toity places around here, using the bread as the anchor of the sandwich. the bread is great simply toasted with some nice quality butter. they do baked goods as well and generally have a type of loaf for periods of a time. I found they can be hit and miss in this respect, so I have stuck to the bread, oh well, expect for the cinnamon rolls. Yes, they are done right. If only I still had the metabolism I had when I was 20, I would die a happy man with these rolls of beauty. read more

If bread can take you to nirvana, this place will do it for you. Every single bread we've had here - French baguette & mini, Sourdough batard, multi-grain, & the epi are AMAZING! And the Focaccia? Out of this bleeping world! We think it's the best Focaccia outside of Italy - (& still a contender for some Italian bakeries at that). If you like bread - I challenge you to just walk in & buy nothing. Kinda like having one potato chip - just doesn't happen. The staff is very friendly and really enjoys what they do - which adds to the whole pleasant experience. Plus, you can see with your own eyes where all the (bread) magic takes place. Leaves you feeling very content inside, even before you taste the delicious breads. It's not open traditional bakery hours, true (i.e. closed Sundays) but well worth a stop if you plan for it or happen to be in the 'hood when they are open. Or do what we do... Go have lunch (or pick up a to-go lunch) at Aioli Deli (across the street) and then walk over to Nightengale, grab some bread for that night's dinner. You won't be disappointed. I went here after seeing all the AH-mazing reviews on Yelp. This place has worked hard for those 5 stars. I went in here after a day on the river and remember oh yes this place and pulled into a parking lot a little too quickly. The selection of breads left was meek since it was close to their closing time. I got a baguette and then left. The baguette was simply delicious. Soft and fresh, something that is nearly impossible to get at grocery stores. I wish they had a couple more unique breads with cheeses and such. Oh well, still a great local joint I'll make sure to go to again. read more

Some of the very best bread money can buy comes out of this bakery in the heart of Forestville. Bread making is still art and this shop shows that off with finished loaves that are delicious. All the breads are made is small quantities and they do run out as closing time approaches. Some of the breads made here are French, Sourdough Batard, Rosemary Focaccia, Seeded Multigrain and Honey Wheat Sandwich Bread. There are also specials depending on the day, my favorite is the Cinnamon Raisin on Thursday. I haven't yet had their Cinnamon Rolls but heard they are the best! I was there early in the afternoon and they only had couple of baguettes and multi grain bread left - I bought one of each. I have found a new favorite baguette. This sets the standard for a locally sourced bread that is delicious. The smell of freshly baked bread first greets you but the taste is what endures. The sourdough batard has a crust that crunches and surrounds the textured bread within. Whether toasted or simply sliced it reminds me of the best examples of sourdough that used to permeate San Francisco - especially now that Larrabaru breads is gone. Nightingale Breads is a Local Treasure Bay Area residents are so fortunate to have so many great bakeries. My family has been involved in the baking business since the 1940s and the fine artisan bakeries have only gotten better. When I saw that someone was opening a bakery in Forestville, I was thrilled and also amazed at the courage of the person behind the Creation. Beth Thorp, a Registered Nurse, had the calling to open her own bakery. I hoped for the best for her. Opening a small business is daunting. But Nightingale was put together with thought and love. The building and the wood-fired brick oven is beautiful. But best of all the baked goods are exemplary. I've never been disappointed in anything I've ever purchased. And the staff and Beth herself are so charming. Our BBQ business is now using Nightingale's Seeded Sourdough for our BLT's and for us the combination is delicious. Thanks Nightingales. read more
