I have never had a meat pie before but I've always seen them in movies and wondered what they would be like. Well they're delicious!! I got my first meat pie today, I got a steak cheese and jalapeño meat pie and it was so good! The jalapeños were the tiniest spicier than I would have liked but it was still very enjoyable and I ate the whole thing! I also got the orange biscotti and it was also delicious! BurtoNZ Bakery is a wonderful, unique place in Sonoma County. There are a few places that do meat pies pretty well, but I feel like this place does them the best. Their steak pies feel especially authentic to that British/New Zealand styles very rustic, rich with butter and so flavorful. Their sweet pastries are also delicious and they have a few specialties there as well. The service here is great and everyone is helpful. I love being able to see all the people making the pastries in the kitchen and smelling the baked goods. On today's visit, my wife and I shared their spicy vegetable pie, which was actually pretty spicy! It had a strong, tangy tomato flavor with a lot of spice! We also shared a fruit galette that had a lot of berries and pear on it. Lastly, we got their tan square which has a short bread base and then a thick, butterscotch and nuts top. Wish I could give 6 or 7 stars!!! This place is amazing!!! And now I am trying to find a New Zealand bakery here in So Cal. My only mistake was that we visited this place on our second to last day, and they were closed on Sunday. Had I known this, I would have came on our first day and then every day after that. Only had 3 things, and it was enough to make me a raving fan! Custard Square is a must have. Bacon & Egg pie is a must have. Sausage roll is a MUST have. The pastry is flakey and mouth-watering. This place is so great for grab and go. The mushroom and goat cheese pie is one of my favorites to get when I'm in the area. Everything also reheats well. On my last visit I grabbed a sausage roll, it's full of flavor and flaky. I eat it with the tomato sauce. The cheddar bacon scone was nice and salty. I love the big bits of bacon inside. It's not too heavy, but it's filling. I also tried a brown butter cookie for the first time from here. It tasted like a chocolate chip cookie without the chocolate haha. It was delicious. It was crispy on the outside but gooey and chewy in the middle. All my interactions with the staff have all been good and everyone is friendly. This is the second time I've been to this place after discovering it while getting my hair cut next door. Today I got beef, cheese and jalapeño meat pies and a creamy chicken meat pie for the wife. Listen... I'm suppose to be on a diet, but... after I got in my car and began driving, I bit into the beef, cheese and jalapeño and for a split second I thought about parking and going back in for another. This is a fabulous bakery. They also sell lots of breads that they make in house. They have some tables inside and some outside, so we ate there. The steak and Duncan's mushroom savory pie was fantastic. Nice and hot, flaky crust and great filling. The chocolate lamington pastry was delicious. Maybe we were stuffed by then, but I thought the lemon bar, the light colored fudge and this custard tart thing were just ok. Seemed way too sweet, but maybe we were just so full! This has quickly become my favorite bakery! They offer such a wide variety of pastries, and I've been hooked on their ham and cheese croissants--they're absolutely delicious. This bakery is the greatest surprise in the least likely location. The setting is ok, and there are tables inside and outside, but the quality of the food is its strength. Situated next to a Safeway in an ordinary shopping center is a delightful bakery filled with sweet and savory pastries. We went for a savory pie but were surprised at the quality and variety of sourdough and artisan breads. We tried the mushroom and goat cheese pie which is so good we will return just for that item. The chocolate cookie is delightful. The brownie is super chocolatey, creamy, and insanely addicting. The prices are fair...for our 4 delicious items the total was $21. We live 30 minutes away and will return often. BTW, the owner is an authentic Kiwi, and I told him his bakery was better than any I visited in New Zealand! read more

My husband stopped here to get cupcakes for a family birthday celebration. He was sold "salted caramel" cupcakes, specifically asking "are there nuts in them?" and they told him NO. However, not all breads listed on their menu are available. For some reason, some are only available on Saturdays. I also decided to bring home some yummy desserts - fudge brownies, strawberry shortbread cookie (this was the best), and blueberry scone (this was also very yummy, moist and not dry like most scones)! The ham and cheese sandwich was amazing? Coffee was very limited! They only served Rosa Bella(?) which you can purchase the grounds from Oliver's! (I guess I was expecting a wide variety of coffee options). The service was fine. Not really the friendliest. It's been over a year since I have been back to BurtoNZ bakery. My dear friend treated me to these delectable deliciousness. Location is next to Safeway with ample parking. One large communal table inside and a few tables outside. It's clean, you are greeted with a whiff of tasty morsels of goodness. We went on Saturday, arrived shortly after 11:00am. We came specifically for the New Zealand doughnut. Unfortunately they were already sold out. You can't go wrong with any of their savory pies. We kept it lean and only order 3 items to share: sausage roll, steam and cheese and mushroom pies. Recently, for my birthday breakfast, I tried this bakery as it was on my birthday activities list. I tried the cinnamon roll, chocolate croissant & the raspberry+white chocolate scone. This is such a gem! Tucked in the corner of the Safeway shopping center, their food is made fresh and in-house! The staff were so kind explaining the variety of pies and goodies in the cases. They have pre-made sandwiches, but they go fast! They also have loafs of bread and baguettes for sale, too! We had one of their beef & cheese pies, as well as one of their beef & potato pies. They were seasoned so well, were packed full of flavor, and not dry at all. They have a fun, friendly atmosphere with a few chairs inside and outside to eat at (if you're staying), or they'll bag up your items to go! Feb 2023 Stopped in for a quick lunch grab before a meeting. Menus above and lots of baked goods behind the glass for all your carb forward needs. In retrospect I should've grabbed a loaf of bread too but I wasn't thinking that far ahead. Service was helpful with any questions that I had. I had gotten a mushroom and goat cheese pie, a berry tart, and a scotch egg since I had never had one before. Everything was really good though I liked the pie and the scotch egg best. The pie nice and warm, rich in flavor. Mushroom worked really well with it. The scotch egg was also very good though a bit messy. Thank goodness for the saran wrap which caught all the bits. Stopped by today after being by the coast and hearing a lot of good things from fellow Fijians living in Northern California . If you're from our side of the world , you know we love our meat pies , sausage rolls , lamingtons & cream buns/rolls . Everything was made fresh and looked like it sold out pretty quick . Went on a regular Thursday and people were walking in and out with these baked goodies . Glad we sat outside too because we made a little bit of a mess with all yumminess . My husband discovered this Bakery about 6 months ago. We have been deliciously excited about everything they make.. still trying more and more of their delicate creations. So far my favorite is their cinnamon bun very unique and yummy. Every bite is an explosion of flavor. My husband loves their breads of various kinds. I wanted to love this place - everyone else seems to. But while I enjoyed the sausage roll, I found the steak and mushroom pie to be a little bland.
