I was part of a party of five. Everyone received their meals and I was told that mine would be out in a few minutes. The waitress returned 15 minutes later asking if we needed anything else when I cancelled my order. I had ordered the Chicken Marsala...which obviously was forgotten. She offered to comp my meal and give me take out. When she delivered the meal the Marsala was packaged in one container and the pasta which was in a tomato sauce was packaged separately. This restaurant would be a find in any neighborhood in D.C., so to have it here in Berryville is fantastic! My husband and I have been here numerous times in the past few months and have never been disappointed. The dry aged steaks were tender and grilled to perfection at half the cost of Morton's in D.C. This place is 100% not kid friendly. The only thing on the kids menus was spaghetti in 3 different ways. Kid didn't want spaghetti so that sucked. So sorry we chose to stop in at Nik's. We'd passed it many times but frequently it was closed. I'm sure some of the closings might have been due to COVID. We were seated right away and our order was taken right away. Over an hour later we left with only having eaten the bread, which was good with the garlic olive oil. This is the second time in my adult life that I made my group leave the restaurant. I'll start with the person that I assume was the hostess. We had 3 adults, one six year old and a toddler that needed a booster seat. She just stared at the tables (the place wasn't even 50% full yet) not knowing what to do. The tables were mostly 4 toppers, just pull over another chair and go with it.....maybe because she kept starring at the seating layout and the empty tables. Finally another employee suggested to pull two tables together. So on a Saturday night you take 8 seats to sit 5 people. The waitress took our drink order and we ordered an appetizer, she asked if we would also like some bread, who doesn't. We decided to order two of their menu pizzas. Who ever designed this restaurant needs to stop and hire someone that has an idea of what the flow should be. As we waited for pizza I had a direct view of the flow that was set up. The main kitchen is out for all to see or at least you can see the heads of the kitchen staff over all the stuff stacked on the counter. A narrow hallway is where you go back for salads and dishes and the the kitchen boss is trying to set the meals up for delivery. The drink station for the servers is at the end of a seating area right in front of the bathrooms. This place is also not very kid friendly, they basically had lemonade for the kids and ran out of that, mi granddaughter was able to poke a hole in the styrofoam coffee cup they served her drink in. The best was seeing who I hope was the fish guy coming back in forth from the back kitchen to the front area in his sweats and tank top. I hope he wasn't into food prep. After 40 minuted of waiting on two pizzas and getting a little miffed we asked the waitress about our food, her reply was about 20 minutes more, she apologized to no avail for me. She said they only had one pizza person. When asked to speak to the manger she said he was making the pizza. I saw 4 pizzas come out during that period, two for dine in and two for take out. We asked for our bill minus the pizzas. To her credit she said just go. We were there for an hour trying to get pizza. read more

Great food, excellent service, reasonable prices. Last weekend my wife and I decided to have dinner at Nik's, so we drove down from Frederick, Maryland, all the way to Berryville. It was worth the trip. We started with pizza. We had a variety of toppings. The cheese was thick and crisp, the "add-ons" --- pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms --- were liberal and tasty. From there we went on to the main courses. My steak was superb: done to perfection and soft enough to cut with a fork. A side of mac-and-cheese was as good as any I have tasted. My wife had lamb. I didn't get to taste it, but my wife said it was excellent. Again it was done to perfection. Hot pink on the inside and seared on the outside. Nik's also has a complete bar. They appear to offer a wide range of wines and liquors but we didn't get to sample anything beyond scotch and white wine. It's about an hour from Frederick, MD, to Berryville, VA. The chicken was way too dry, and service was slow. But what caught our attention was when a member of staff, I presume the owner or manager, flipped out on two U.S. Veterans with certified service dogs. The dogs were completely behaved and obedient. Not a sound from them. But in violation of law, and in total disrespect of these two mens' sacrifices for our country, he belligerently threw them out. My wife and I won't be coming back for dinner at NIK'S. Our impression of the food at dinner is that they seem to emphasize quantity over quality. We are sort of average-size adults in our seventies, and we find that the pasta dishes in particular represent twice to three times the amount of food we are comfortable eating at the evening meal. Some dishes are tasty, some not. Pork loin slices I had recently had a springy texture like the "mystery meat" I remember from college dining halls; they were also over salted or maybe smoked. The menu didn't say "smoked." If I had't known what I ordered, I wouldn't have been able to identify the meat. I can tolerate mediocre or inconsistent quality in the food if the ambience is restful and conducive to conversation. Here our experience at dinner has been a noise level so high that conversation is nearly impossible. This is especially true as the evening goes on toward 9:00 pm and the bar patrons are nearing full volume. Some attention to dampening the acoustics would make the place more pleasant to visit. read more
