I had lunch here about a month ago on a Saturday. Yelp brought me here as I was in the area. It's located on the corner of a strip shopping center with parking in front. Nik's is a casual table service restaurant that looks very nautical inside with its decor and is small inside. After looking at the menu that consists of steaks and seafood dishes I realized it's quite affordable too. In fact, steaks are a big part of the menu. I ordered a combo type meal of a 5 oz. sirloin with 5 blackened shrimp and mashed potatoes for $12.99. The meal came out in less than 15 minutes. I must say that the sirloin was outstanding! Seriously, I can't remember eating a steak that was more flavorful and tender as those 5 ounces were. It was better than most filet mignon's that I have experienced. However they do it, the steaks here are legit. I want that steak (no, need that steak) again and soon. The blackened shrimp were tasty and enjoyed too. Finally, I was impressed with how creamy and smooth the mashed potatoes were along with the delish gravy on top. For $13 this meal rocked! Finally, my waiter, William gave excellent table service. I don't live near or frequent this area often however I want to come back. This meal was an easy 5 but after just one experience I'm hesitant without trying something else and think I should give a 4 for now. But that steak was soooo good..... read more

It was so bad. The one is the lowest rate I can give the Cajun rice was dry as if reheated. The fried shrimp was fishy with no batter. The only thing that was decent was the fish, a waste of money, the gumbo old, no flavor. And very diluted. Tried it once never again don't waste your time or money. read more

Listen up Yelpers! Myself and two others stopped here yesterday for lunch. It's hidden in a strip center off 2920 in north Houston, so you have to look hard to find it. Our waiter ( Maureling) was very professional and polite in all aspects. The food was crazy good!!! We had jumbo wrapped shrimp brochettes and salmon with a baked potato. SERIOUSLY, it was delicious. It's in a strip mall, and the inside is basic, but the food is great. The service is also friendly. They have a varied menu. I have been twice and gotten the shimp po boy grilled and fried. Both times I have gotten it with the side salad, which is a nice size. The shrimp has been cooked really well. Everyone I have been with has seemed equally pleased with their choices. My side was the fried corn on the cob. The corn made up for the breading but it was not as salty as the fish. We were driving by and decided to try it. It's a small, cozy place. When we got there, there was only one waitress. An order for 6 people came out of the kitchen so she served them first and it took her about 15 minutes to serve us our drinks. I decided on a cup of gumbo, 6 piece fried shrimp with fried corn on the cob and vegetables. Husband picked the 12 oz. steak with coleslaw, onion rings, plus 3 grilled shrimp. After about 10 minutes, she brought out the coleslaw. Hubby and I both liked it. Five minutes later, she brought out the gumbo. When I saw it, the first words out of my mouth were, "Somebody needs to learn how to make roux." It was very soupy. I took a sip of the soup and there was a party in my mouth. The flavor was very good and husband agreed. Another 10 minutes later, we got our food. The fried shrimp and vegetables needed some salt. I liked the very light batter on the shrimp. The fried corn had the same light batter and I also liked it. I had some of the onion rings and those were great. The grilled shrimp had too much pepper on it. The cocktail sauce had sriracha sauce in it. That was different. I didn't try the steak. I will come back for the gumbo and onion rings, for sure. read more

If you don't need giant brand-named fancy steakhouse restaurants, this would be the place for what would be like a homemade steak made on the grill or in the old-fashion style of a cast iron pan. We shared a 12 oz ribeye steak with sides of broccoli, Cajun-style rice, fried shrimp & fried oysters. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked on a grill. We requested a medium-rare steak. Steak was super tasty! Cajun rice was delicious and the steamed broccoli still had a good crunch & not mushy. The fried shrimp & oysters had a light batter coating and was crunchy & tasty. This was a great meal that was shared between 2 persons and cost us about $25. Loved the staff! Attentive and friendly! Restaurant has a few tables and always has customers. Decided to give Nik's a try. Don't let the strip center exterior fool you. This place is a gem. They have an extensive menu as well. The service was very good. Started off with a cup of some of the best shrimp & sausage gumbo I've had and some boiled shrimp. I was getting full before my meal even came. For the entree, I went with the 12oz t-bone cooked medium with veggies and mashed potatoes. Everything was very good! The steak was tender and flavorful. Honestly I don't know how I haven't gave a review sooner! I have been here at least 20 or 30 times now. It was the restaurant I went to the day moving into my home and didn't have a stove or fridge and haven't ate all day. From that day the hubby and I were hooked! We even have our friends from out of town who come a few times a year hooked. Every single thing we have had there is awesome! From the fried/grilled seafood, chicken, steak, down to even the philly cheese steak (that I couldn't believe was so good) you can't go wrong! Steak is cheap for a reason. Gave me an upset stomach and couldn't stop throwing up. It was 100% the steak because that's all I ordered w/sides and not even an hour later I was in the restroom. Wow, this place was such a surprise! In a grocery store strip mall, and having more of a dive cafe feel than a steak and seafood restaurant, we were beyond pleasantly surprised at our experience! We started with the bacon wrapped shrimp with butter appetizer and they were great! I had the grilled shrimp, grilled veggies, broccoli, and sweet potato fries and was astonished at the quantity of food for about $11! The veggies were very good. My friend got the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and fries and said it was delicious, too. We had an appetizer, 2 huge entrees, and a drink for $29. The service was very good, too. Don't expect a 5 star romantic candlelit steak and seafood restaurant ambience, but for food and value, this is a total win! read more

We came today to eat and it was packed full. Food must be good if there's a lot of customers right? There was 1 waiter who had to cover all tables, the venue is small. But I thought that was a little unfair. We ordered the Cajun shrimp and onion ring appetizer. Cajun shrimp was doused in hot sauce and some Cajun season sprinkled on top. This was very disappointing. Who ever created that menu item should take it off. I was very disappointed when it came out. Presentation sucked and it was no where near what you'd expect. Onion rings were 5 stars this is the first place that had genuine taste, texture, and crunch of a true onion ring. Pork chop and side salad, the pork chop was delicious! I don't know how they cooked it but I loved it. The side salad was pretty good for a regular house salad. Probably cause they add onions. I do love some onions. My husband and I went here for dinner tonight and I must say I am impressed. There are a TON of options, something for everyone. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with grilled shrimp. I consider myself a connoisseur of alfredo and this was delicious. The shrimp were huge and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was really tasty. It also came with a side of yummy veggies and really tasty coleslaw. My husband got the fried fish and shrimp combo. Again the shrimp were huge and perfectly fried. Finally went to Nic's for dinner with my husband. We were pleasantly surprised how delicious everything was. Every item is cooked to order. Ordered the calamari fresh and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend and I have been to Nik's four times in the last two weeks. This place has great food at great prices. Nik's is a very small place (Max seating 34) but we have always found seating. We have also called in an order to go (which a lot of people do) sometimes the wait for food is a little longer than normal but it is worth it. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. We have tried a lot of different items on the menu. The grilled pork chops, the grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, chicken teriyaki, Mexican cocktail, Fried pickles, calamari and stuffed crab. We loved everything except for the Mexican cocktail, that was just so,so. With most meals you also get up to 3 sides. The bake potato and Cajun rice are delicious but so are the other items.
