I have been going there for decades and never made a review because this place served as it is advertised. But, my today visits ended up with 911 call and Niles Police responding. The woman behind the counter was so rude answering my questions about the sausages and the pork. My questions were as simple as are they garlicky or ready to eat, instead of if I have to cook it first. so rude to a point she threw the sausages and meat on the counter, not at me. ( All of this were in their surveillance cameras). I was pissed to say the least so I told the cashier that she was acting like a bitch to me. He is a young man understand English perfectly what I was saying but the older guy came to the front the back and tried to intimidate be and telling me "be careful" over and over v Maybe a language problem, but I took it as a threat so I asked the cashier what is the guy meant by "be careful" to me. The casher didn't answer me but they were speaking to each other in polish and something like they called the police. So I have no choice but to protect my self, I had to stay there until the police came. I had to called 911 too to make sure my side is explained. NOW is MORE of my problem/dilemmas. Two police officers who last name Ki or ski showed up and I explained my side to one of them and they said I was angry and need to bring it down a notch. They took down my ID and put down their story at their discretion. One talked to me in English and the other one talk to the people inside and claimed to watched the video. I don't want you to read into anything like they read in to and perceives me as a problem because I was pissed of the woman and being told "be careful " But if you read into their last names like they read into me, you can imagine how they communicated in the languages they spoke and which side of the story they obviously took despite the establishment's surveillance video. For a 24 years US Navy veteran like me with 16 years civil service for 40 years total National Service, its almost like no whistle/no foul. But I felt this establishment is a total f-you for any Americans. To two police officers who were also polish and not being transparent to me is a sad state of affairs for city of Niles and America. The Niles motto used to be "where people counts". Not so much now. I don't even know if there was a police report or if I would be trespassed. Either way, be warned to visit this place unless you are polish. I could return the merchandise and ask for refunds but I didn't want to go back in and deal with them once the police were called. read more

This is a small Polish grocery store located conveniently right off of Milwaukee Ave and just south of Dempster St and with its own plenty big parking lot.   We've never previously stepped in here though it is close to home and we pass by it all the time.  Their deli looks decently stocked for a small store and probably the big draw to their operation.  On this inaugural visit, we just picked up a hot (temperature) container of their pico soup to try for $2.69.  There were two lady staffers, one older, one younger and both were matter-of-fact no-nonsense types.  The older one did speak English and when asked told me what was in the pico soup (it's a mildly tangy vegetable soup and was ok to try).  There were a couple of other Polish customers at the deli ordering a bunch of stuff and I'm sure this place has mostly Polish customers.  Overall, ok on this visit.  Maybe we'll try the deli one day. read more

I've literally driven by this place in Milwaukee & Crain St 1,000's of times. Curiosity got the better of me (besides I was hungry lol) so I pulled into the parking lot. Well guess what? It's exactly that a Polish Deli. I walked in and said hello to the cashier who just looked @ me & snarled & didn't say anything back. I guess I'm not Polish enough to warrant a hello. Well I was inside so I thought I would peruse the store & see what I could see. They had a nice deli case w/deli meats & sausages. There were a number of Polish food items on the shelves around the store & a nice selection of European beers that could be bought by the single bottle, which is very nice so you can try a single beer wo/buying a 6 pack and finding out you don't care for the beer. How many times have you bought a bottle or a 6 pack and you find out that you don't care for the drink you purchased. They did have a very small hot food case where they had a number of items that were prepared & ready to eat. I got a few pieces of polish sausage & a fried chicken cutlet, edible but nothing to get write home about or get too excited. Very reasonable priced lunch for $4.98/lb., since I'm such a petite flower my order came to .67 lbs or $3.34. Not to bad for an edible but not too remarkable meal. The store is pretty cool, the cashier snarled at me & the woman at the deli counter was very helpful. Would I go back again? Maybe to buy a bottle or 2 of their beer and see if anything catches my fancy even though I really don't drink much beer. read more

Beware! I bought barszcz (borscht) from their refrigerated case, got it home, and it was spoiled-- there was actual mold growing on it. I am taking it back tomorrow for a refund. We'll see if they give it to me. read more

Many reviews here are right. The quality of the meat and other home made products is quite low at this deli. I am surprised, since I know many Polish people in Chicago and the quality of their work and products is usually very high. Yesterday, I bought a sausage at this Deli and after I came back home and cut it with a knife - there was some liquid coming out of it ?! It turned out that they sold me a sausage that was definitely old, and possibly started to rotten ?!?! I decided not to buy at this Polish deli anymore. I am swithching to other Polish Deli's, since we have many of them in Chicago. I also do not recommend this Deli to anybody. read more

I was so confused but finally it was my turn for the cashier, the cashier refused to ring up my order. I walked out. This is the second year in a row we ordered food from them and it was excellent. We ordered chicken cutlets, gravy, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and potato pancakes. All our guests loved it! The sauerkraut is just the right mix, not too sweet, not too sour. I believe the new owners took over in the last year or two, so for those of you who have been there before that, please give them another chance. I believe the owner is Teresa. She went out of her way to make sure we got everything we wanted and it was hot. Prices are super reasonable. We will definitely be ordering from them again next year. read more

Niles Polish Deli at 8705 N. Milwaukee Ave. I couldn't believe the high prices they charging at the store. For the small sausages Kabanos the store asking $11.95 lb almost 150% more then Andy's Deli at 5442 North Milwaukee in Chicago. Last time I shop at this Deli, no more, and I not recommended to anybody to shop over there. The owner of the store takes advantage of the economic crisis and raises the prices of goods from 75% -150% at the expense of the customer. For me this is real Polish thief. read more

I'm a regular to this Awesome place! Love the selection of meats, pastries, teas of all kinds for all things bread is always fresh especially mornings. Lady's are nice and serious at the same time but always polite. Always quick to answer your questions about your choices. Young gentlemen at the register always says hello. I witnessed them always serve all walk of culture with a smile. This is your Get in and get out store they are not there to do a dance for you or throw flowers as you enter their establishment. I always notice none polish ppl walk in with a attitude like the own the place or judge them without reason this is not Tony's or Jewel it's a small place they want you in and out because it gets cramped really fast but they don't rush you not one bit it's a fast pace place when it's busy and some take it as rudeness. If they don't answer you at a sec you ask they will always way's come back stop and help. Yes some have a language barrier but you will always be treated with respect. You give respect you get respect back they don't play. Their smoked meats and fish are AMAZING! a must try. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Not a fan. I've tried this place maybe four times, in the past two years. I like to support local businesses and this one is walking distance from my house. But it's disappointing. There is a good selection at the deli, and basic deli meats/cheeses are what I've tried, but #1: it's overpriced. I realized that for what I paid for 1/2 lb. of swiss cheese here, I could pay the same or less at Jewel, Dominick's and definitely at a different ethnic grocery store like Produce World. I saw very little produce to speak of (another reason for me to go to Produce World, Shop & Save, Jerry's, etc.) and the limited selection of basic grocery items they do have are also quite overpriced. And while I appreciate that this deli is targeted to the Polish community, in all the times I've come here, I've gotten the distinct impression I am unwelcome (reason #2). I've not received any greetings, any smiles (even when I first smile at them) or any thank yous for shopping here. Yeah, you can keep your unfriendly employees and overpriced goods. I would add another star if it was bigger, but the deli alone is definitely in the 4-star range. In the past decade, you may have noticed that the near-NW suburbs have been getting a steady influx of Polish-American residents (myself included) buying up homes around Niles and Park Ridge. It was especially noticeable on this year's Constitution Day, May 3rd, when it seemed there were homes on every block adorned with the red and white flags on their porches. Well, when Jewel or other big grocers don't carry many Polish specialties or overcharge for them, it is places like Niles Polish Deli that meet the need and thrive in a niche market. From the moment you walk in, if you are blond-haired and blue eyed, expect people to talk to you in Polish at the deli, the checkout or even as you pass other shoppers in the narrow aisles. Now I have an OK mastery of conversational Polish, so I do fine, but I warn non-Polish speakers to be ready for some hardcore Polish immersion when you walk through the door. Niles Polish Deli has a nice bakery section of various fancy, whole grain breads from other Polish bakeries in Chicago, and a pretty good variety of powdered soup mixes imported from Poland. My favorite is Winiary Borowik soup, which is derived from the rich-tasting boletus mushrooms. Add some dried boletus chunks to the mix and you got yourself a meal. The basic grocery and fresh produce is minimal, overpriced, and not the reason to come here. The real reason is for the deli that packs a lot of variety for a tiny shop. They got various sausages, hams, cheeses and Polish meatloafs to choose from. There's always a line, but typically you'll have 3 or 4 people working the deli counter so it moves along nicely. This place would hold its own farther east on Milwaukee Avenue in the heart of Chicago's Jackowo neighborhood. I love their real smoked sausages for grilling, which have a better texture and quality than the corrosive-tasting "liquid smoked" sausages you find in vacuum-packed bunches in other stores. The checkout area has a pretty big Polish magazine rack. Across from it, you also have a small liquor section with the essential Polish beers and other imported drinks. I usually get my Polish stuff at Shop-N-Save, but this place is good for the occasional trip when I'm in the area. read more

Great selection. This was my first time here right before Easter Sunday 2017. Love the traditional European atmosphere and selection. As per another reviewer, the ladies behind the deli counter and at check out are only friendly towards Polish people. I am Ukrainian and they were not friendly towards me at all. That being said, the food is authentic and delicious. They need to work on their customer service- but maybe they don't care and are not looking to attract and keep non-Polish customers. read more

I am not Polish whatsoever, but I do come here all the time to buy good Polish soup. They are ridiculously cheap and ridiculously yummy. I recommend the zupa ogorkowa (check my spelling, lol) aka pickle soup. I visited this place for the first time in hopes of great Polish food. I order dumplings and croquettes and the ladies behind the couter are the rudest people I have ever dealt with. It seems that if you are Polish they are nice but if your not they are not very friendly. There was a misunderstanding at the counter and as soon as I was done I could hear them laughing and it was very obvious it was about me. I havent tried what I ordered and I dont know if I want to now. Also the power kept going out where they stored the meat and it smelled funny in the store so who knows if its safe to eat now. I'm Polish and speak it well. Every time I come in here, I make an effort to say hello in Polish, maybe a sentence or two. I keep hoping it'll improve the quality of service I get. Absolutely doesn't work. Maybe one girl behind the deli was polite and smiled. The older female cashier is the rudest employee of any store I've ever been to. I left the store with tears in my eyes because of how dehumanizing the whole experience was. I'm fine with being ignored... It would have been preferable to the rude way she treated me and threw my bag at me. The Kefir I wanted was out of stock the last two times I've tried coming in. It's so bad that after the first time we went, my boyfriend told me he'll just wait in the car for me. As an interracial couple, it was even worse... I don't think anyone gave me any eye contact that first time. Ridiculous. Unless you're friends with the owner/head cashier or one of the deli folks, I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

I am a huge supporter of small local businesses so I figured time to make a yelp and start supporting them online as well. Small deli but very delicious! They make the soups fresh every day! I recommend the chicken soup and mushroom soup - my favorites. I don't come here as often as I would like since I do not live around the area, but I do make it a point to stop in when I am. They have a pretty nice selection of polish teas and I especially enjoy the small bowls of pastas/salatkas/beets/soups they offer for pretty low prices. read more

Was looking for kielbasa and found it. Freaking awesome. First glance at the meat counter was awe inspiring. Living on the West coast it's been long since I've been presented with such opportunity. Personally I am very disappointed with Niles Polish Deli. The few times i was there i purchased some goods such as hamburgers or "krokiety". They were frozen inside and only half warm on the outside. The sausage was sticky and slimy. They do not have the prices listed for the the various cold cuts . ALL of the groceries and liquors are highly over priced and it is a waste of money. They have a very small selection of hot food which is pre-made and reheated and a small selection or various soups and salads. After my terrible experience at Niles Polish Deli i heard from a friend about Bacik's Deli in Niles. The store has a large selection of delicious homemade food and very reasonably prices. They have some of the best polish sausage in all of Chicago made fresh daily. I would recommend Bacik's Deli to anyone who knows what it means to eat very good polish food. read more

This place is just like Bacik down the street small selections over priced. I also bought cheese bread from here and it was stale! Gross!

Authentic polish food including hot prepared foods such as kluski, golabki, kapusta, sausage and breaded chicken or pork filets. They have homemade soups from chicken noodle to mushroom to barley. The cold salads are great. No artificial ingredients. The potato salad is made with mayo, egg and potatoes. The shredded cold beet salad is fresh clean tasting love it next to dry meat. It's great having homemade food but not having to make it yourself. The deli is extensive with freshly prepared meats and homemade sausage. You can stop in for milk, produce, imported goods and liquor. It's a great little deli + that's been around for as long as I can remember. They have a $5 lunch/dinner deal - large portions. I have read other reviews that the women who work there have been rude to customers and this is true. I just laugh it off it's not a big deal I have to say if you can ignore it - the food is totally worth it! read more
