They recently acquired another fencing club in Tustin that went out of business and I heard alot of members left for another one in Torrance. As parents, we are more than proud to see that our children are so passionate about the sport and aspiring to become Olympic champions at such a young age. The club becomes an encouraging environment where my boys get to grow with a team that is passionate about the sport. At in-house training, the fencers are good friends, who share, and help each other grow together over the friendly competition. At serious competitions, the fencers are the best teammates, who cooperate, cheer each other on, and learn from each other's mistakes. As a closely-knitted community, the more advanced fencers often take care of the younger fencers and encourage them on a bad day. It especially touches us to see how the graduated fencers often come back to help out at SoCal Fencing Center and catch up with continuing fencers and coaches. Speaking of the Tustin location specifically, Coach Nikolay is a legitimately a world class fencer (see wikipedia). You can see it in their blood and how it emanates to the studio as a whole. There are classes here for more casual fencers but, I can see that this place is a studio that produces winners. One specific thing I appreciate is that the Coaches emphasis a lot of intention and detail when training. Having been in other gyms, they are usually kind but not intentional (e.g. blindly repeating drills without checking form). I don't believe you can get better without being intentional. Overall, I think it is a great place for younger fencers to build confidence, athleticism, and mental acuity.

Our son has played with them now for roughly six months and his development as a player (and dare I say as a young man) is remarkable. He has grown tremendously in terms of his gameplay, court skills, competitiveness and even (gasp!) character and maturity. As a mom of two basketball players, I've had a hard time finding coaches that don't make me cringe in their over-the-top out-of-control competitiveness and "here's the ball now run down to the other side of the court and fling it" solo-star style of gameplay. With LEE Sports Group, the team WINS GAMES and they do it without compromising what I consider to be basic character. I'll let other reviewers weigh in on their basketball philosophy because that not really something I know as much about, but as a mom on the sidelines all I can say that this has been the best six months of my son's basketball experience and it is entirely due to the exceptional coaching and community. As a professor and teacher, I am totally humbled by how Alpha and Kendall manage to bring out the very best in every single player, build on their strengths, address gaps and weaknesses, yet all the while cultivating a true appreciation of the game and joy of playing. And we're checking with the reception every week to see if it is her turn. For 6 month every week the reception lady said my daughter is number 1 in the wait list. One week we miss the class and didn't ask for her turn. Now the reception is telling me that my daughter lost her turn because I didn't respond to their email within 48 hours. Very bad communication! Very disappointing! How can she see me every week asking and they don't bother to make a call or text when it is my daughter's turn. Now probably it will take another 6 months of wait because she is number 2 on the waitlist! Seriously no sense of customer care for these kids and no respect for parents at this business!

Communication from staff is inconsistent, policies are unclear, and parents are given conflicting information depending on who they speak with. After being told one thing in person by staff, I later spoke with Liz, who provided completely different information with no acknowledgment of the earlier guidance. As a result, a reasonable request regarding already-paid classes was denied due to staff miscommunication. When I was at the gym in person, I specifically asked to speak with the manager, Taylor, but she refused to come out and instead said she would call me. That call never happened. The lack of accountability and follow-through only added to the frustration. We have been members for over two years and currently have another child enrolled, yet there was no flexibility or effort to resolve the situation fairly. For a business that serves families and children, this level of customer service is unacceptable. I would not recommend this gym based on how poorly concerns are handled.
