Starr is absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend her highly enough for piercings! I have quite a few ear piercings and she has been my favorite person to get pierced thus far. My best friend and I were able to walk-in for an appointment and talk to Starr extensively to what we wanted. The entire experience was amazing - Starr never rushed us during our experience, even when my friend and I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what type of jewelry she wanted. She was patient and really enthusiastic throughout the entire experience, and even put in the jewelry for us to try on (of course re-sterilizing it once we tried it on). I've never had a piercer be willing to do that, and it was like playing dress-up, which made the experience all the better. I got my daith pierced like I originally wanted, and she was amazing in talking through each step with me and helping me through the pain (the daith was the most painful piercing I have gotten yet). Overall, she made my experience phenomenal and cannot recommend her highly enough. Thank God for Yelp, because without Yelp, I wouldn't have found out about this wonderful place. Be warned: it's a little hidden since it's located on the second floor. I couldn't believe that I've walked past this place so many times on Broadway. But anyway, just go on upstairs. First, I'm getting to the reason why I deducted a star. I initially went last Monday to get my nose pierced, and I was seen by Chris (I believe that's his name). I went to make a bank run, and once I came back, he apologized and told me that they were all out of nose rings and showed me the ones he had left (which were the plain stainless steel looking ones). So, I said, "....WUT?" So disappointing! I couldn't believe that a piercing place, ran out of starter jewelry. But, he gave me a 10% off card, which I was happy about. But anyway... I must now discuss the actual experience. I came back that Friday and was seen by Starr. Now, I'm glad that I came when I did, because Starr told me the same thing that Chris did, which was that they were low on nose rings, but this time there were only two colors left: purple and blue. Luckily, purple is my favorite color. Initially, I wanted a white or yellow one, but what the hell. I chose the purple. Now, onto the actual experience. Starr probably answered every question or doubt that I had in my mind about nose piercings. She told me about the process, what to expect, what she was doing, etc. She then gave me an aftercare kit (which was free) with thorough instructions on how to take care of my new addition, and her card if I had any questions. She was also very patient when marking the location of where I wanted my piercing done. We changed it about four times before finding the perfect place for it to sit on my right nostril. After the piercing, she told me about what to expect, when to come back to change the jewelry, etc. And with the 10% off card, I paid $48 and some change! Sweeeet. Starr, is awesome. I have never, and I mean, NEVER, come into contact with a piercer that is so thorough, knowledgeable and sterile. Also, staff is friendly, and there isn't much of a wait. If there is, look through the portfolios of the Sacred tattoo artists. They're out of this world. And, I love my new piercing (although it IS taking some time to get used to this sparkly thing sticking out of my nose). Trust me, go to Pure Body Arts. You will not regret it. read more

I will start by saying that I am QUITE inexperienced with piercings. My co-worker and I decided to get our tragus' pierced together and she immediately said, "We have to go to Brian!". So after work we headed over to the studio (store? whatever tattoo shops are called) and were greeted by Brain and Brody. Although Brody actually did our piercings Brian sat with him the whole way through, sort of making suggestions and guiding him. This might have freaked me out, but it didn't, they were sort of just swapping ideas and methods. Seriously, there is no need to go anywhere else. And the prices are ridiculously good. They practice the best methods of their business and are clean and passionate about their profession. I would never go to anybody else nor let anyone I know. I went to Brian for my septum at the adamant suggestion of a coworker. Of course, I spent hours researching both the piercing (process, pain and aftercare) and Brian... What I learned about Brian proved to all be true. Just google him and you will see fantastic examples of his work as well as a very happy and large group of clients. Researching the septum piercing on the hand generated various opinions...what I learned was that it really depends on who you go to...of course everyone who went to Brian and Starr had nothing but positive feedback. So I did it. and AGAIN, I will reiterate, the knowledge, cleanliness, expertise, patience and professionalism exemplified by these two....and further, it was the least painful piercing I ever had (which I fully attribute to Brian being such an expert). Brian is by far the best piercer in the North East region. He has a vast knowledge of all kinds of body modifications and practices them regularly. I've seen some amazing work come out of his shop and it never ceases to amaze me when he comes up with new things to do. His shop is seriously cleaner than most doctors' (as I agree with the below review on that) and knows exactly what he's doing. He can figure out a way to do anything you can think of to do to yourself. I've only ever met two of his staff but they have been nothing but amazing to me. Prior to coming to Pure Body Arts (inside Sacred Tattoo), I had gone to another location to get my nose pierced. Unfortunately, that experience didn't go so well and I ended up taking it out :-(. Years later, I decided to get over my fear and get my nose pierced again. I have waited a long time to do it, so I researched different piercing locations in NYC to get the best one. After much searching, I found Pure Body Arts. The reviews spoke about Starr and her kind and professional service, so I made it a point to go immediately. When I arrived to the location (2nd floor), I walked up to the reception desk and a guy asked nicely what I wanted to get. I told him that I wanted to get my nose pierced and he told me that the wait would be less than 15 minutes (I arrived at 6:30ish). After sitting for about 10 minutes, Starr came out and introduced herself to me. She was very pleasant. I explained what I wanted and she told me that she was going to prepare her workspace. I waited a few minutes and she came back to show me my jewelry options. The options are neometal (titanium), which were $66 to 70, and gold, which went from $75-$300. I obviously opted for one she had on--a small neometal stud. Once her workspace was ready, she called me in and explained what was going to happen. I then became nervous since I am not big on needles or pain. I laid down on the chair, head turned sideways towards her, as she cleaned the outside and inside of my nose. Then she placed two cut swabs for precise location and she asked me to breathe in and then OUT deeply. At this time, she had the needle and pierced my nose. I felt a pinch and then a tear fell from one eye. After all was done, she explained the after care procedure and I was given the saline solution with a paper explaining how to care for my piercing. Overall, I love my piercing and my experience was very good here. I will return in about 4 months to get a new jewelry for my nose. read more

There's a reason why this parlor has a 5 star review. I came in for a cartilage jewelry, and everyone here was super helpful and friendly! The staff is knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Starr places my earring for me and I'm so happy with the service. I've always had issues with my earring falling off due to them being butterfly backs. They gave me a flat back one that's custom fitted for my ear. You will leave here feeling uplifted from the warm and welcoming environment. Note: make sure you schedule an appointment! They are busy. This place was awesome and I didn't even have anything done here. They didn't have stock of the earrings I was looking for, and instead of talking me into something else they recommended a place nearby where I could find what I was looking for. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and kind, which isn't always the case in these types of shops! Only problem was that I had a hard time finding it - there's no signage outside that lets you know that it's part of the tattoo studio next door to the numbered address that it's shown at. I decided to go to this shop after all the Yelp reviews, and I'm glad I made the decision to finally get my nostril piercing after more than 7 years of thinking about it. I went in without an appointment and I was seen by the illustrious Starr B. She counseled me, then pierced me, then counseled me again. She gave me a kit and even handed me over her email incase I had any questions. Johnny re-pierced my nose a few months ago after I had not worn jewelry for a few years. He was super helpful and clear when discussing what the process would be like, and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. He easily avoided scar tissue I had from a surgery and was able to pierce my nose in the exact same spot I had it before like I had asked. He calmly told me to take a deep breath, and before I knew it, it was over. I've gotten many piercings at all manner of places (some nice, some awful) and this was by fair the least painful. The healing process was the easiest I have ever experienced. The jewelry selection is broad, they carry all of the top jewelry lines you'd expect at a studio like this, and they help you choose the right piece. I only wish Johnny and his calm instructions to take a deep breath in could lead me in a meditation once in a while, because despite having a needle through my face, it was the most calm I'd felt in ages! read more

Researched extensively online for great ratings and reviews of piercers and decided to head to Pure Body Arts to inquire about a triangle piercing. Starr greeted me and was completely professional and helpful. Although she said that she wasn't experienced enough with triangle piercings to feel comfortable piercing me, she did recommend three other places to check out. The honesty and helpfulness completely surprised me and was not something that I've received at other piercing studios in the area. This is certainly a place where I'd return if I were considering another more common piercing. The only suggestion that I have is to list this name for the piercing studio as clearly as Sacred Tattoo is on the stairwell since it took me awhile to figure out if I was in the right location or not. read more

Ok--to keep their perfect streak going, Starr was amazing. She was quick and explained the aftercare plus super good at what she does. I got a simple cartilage piercing and was in and out of there, including a short wait time, in 20 minutes. Plus, it was about as painless as it could be. Loved the experience. I love piercings and have always loved piercings. With that being said, I've had the opportunity to get pierced from 7 different piercing parlors in the northeast. Out of all of them, this one was the best. I can honestly say that after my experience, Starr will be the only person who ever pierces me again. I've gotten a rook and septum done by her and she was fabulous. I also have my cartilage, second holes, regular ear piercings, nose and both tragus pierced. I also have a triple forward helix. Starr was extremely informative, patient, amicable and enthusiastic about her passion. It made the experience really pleasant and having her talk me through the piercing process helped distract me from the usual fleeting pain. What really stood her apart from the rest of my piercers is that the piercing just did not hurt once it was done. I actually forgot I had my piercings during the healing period. I have always had my piercings throb and swell after having them done, but everything felt perfect immediately afterwards. I had my 7 year old daughter's ears pierced her by Starr a few weeks ago. We are extremely happy that we made the choice to go a professional piercer. I wanted my daughter's first experience with piercing to be a memorable right of passage with professionals who care about the body arts, not the gun at the mall that I had. We called to set up an appointment after emailing and not getting a response right away, just call. My kid was so excited as this was promised to her after she finished soccer that she pounced me the moment she got home from her last game. It's good mama had done her research on the internet. Read Starr's bio on their website and you'll see why I choose her. Starr was available that afternoon so we went right in. Every thing was amazing. They let her pick out the jewelry, explained the sterilization procedures and made sure we were comfortable. My daughter suffered little pain during the procedure. They had her lay on a table in a private room. It was obvious they went to great pains to make sure all safe, clean, sterile and my daughter was taken care of. Starr and the whole staff were pleasant and personable which made my daughter's experience memorable. There's a funky art gallery in the same space you can visit as well. They had graffiti art on display the time we went. I'm sure you can stop in to check out the space and talk to the piercers. The prices were a little confusing and more expensive than I thought but we worked it out and I think it was worth it. The instructions for aftercare and healing were pretty simple. DON'T TOUCH THEM! and there were squeals of delight every night when we used the saline spray. The earrings healed perfectly, way ahead of schedule. We are still waiting to change them out for the designated healed for sure day of August 9th which my daughter has memorized. It's great to hear my daughter share her experience with her friends and family. On the way out of the shop we ran into our neighbor from across the street coming in to get a piercing for her son which was very amusing. She felt better seeing us there and our happy kid leaving with her perfectly pierced ears. Brian also pierced me years ago in a ceremony but that's a whole different story. Dropped in about 2 months ago to get my eyebrow pierced. Why did I wait this long to write a review? Cause I'm little bit o' what you would occasionally refer to as... lazy. But seriously, I decided on PURE after reading about it on Yelp, and the other glowing reviews people had of Brian. I went to their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see updated reports of their sanitizing equipment. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of contracting hep or anything else, just cause I want to get pierced. My worries were definitely put to rest after I saw the website, visited the shop, and spoke with Brian. Went in; Brian selected the right jewelry for me, and then ran the needle through. It was quick, painless, and barely even bled. After we hung out and bs for a bit; he sent me on my way with the instructions to take care of it. I actually went back the next day with my roommate to watch him get his first tattoo; which Eduardo did a great job on. Eduardo did an amazing custom tattoo on the inside of my left bicep. The colors are beautiful and the lines are delicate and crisp. I didn't get anything pierced, but just in listening to the conversations I could tell that Brian is very, very educated and skilled as a piercer. Incredibly friendly people from the moment I walked in: checking in, the retail space, and Johnny who pierced my ear! This was my first piercing ever so I had no concept of jewelry pricing and while I respect quality I had no plan to spend $100+ on a stud. They never tried to push a piece onto me to make a sale or make me feel weird for going with their cheapest titanium option. Johnny was amazing! I went in this past Tuesday after reading such great reviews. I met Starr, who was under the weather. She apologetically informed me that her equilibrium was off and didn't feel comfortable doing septum piercings. I totally understood and respected her honesty. I went back today and finally got it done. Starr is awesome. She talked me through the process, understood what I wanted and was quick and painless. She even helped me get my tunnels in my ears (I just started stretching, but couldn't get them in). I am so glad that I did my research and found this clean, professional shop. Amazing again! This time, I went in for the second of my snakebites and Starr just blew it out of the water. I waited no more than 5 minutes, even interrupting her meal (sorry!), but she quickly brought me to her station area with no problem. Everything was super clean: face mask and gloves worn, all tools freshly sterilized, jewelry straight of the sealed bags. I'm always so impressed by this place! My piercing looks awesome; the two are perfectly placed and symmetrical and she also explained the differences between my existing jewelry and what she had in stock. Stopped by last Friday to get a second helix piercing. I already had my helix pierced from high school done by a piercing gun (which we all know you shouldn't do, but I was young and stupid). Starr saw this and took this into consideration when piercing my second helix right above it so both hoop earrings would look nice. She took the time to explain exactly what she was doing. It was quick and really didn't hurt much. Some people have mentioned that this place is cash only. For piercings they accept credit cards and the cost was $45 for piercing and jewelry. I waited about 30 minutes since there was 3 people in front of me. Starr was very apologetic for the wait time. I mentioned I wanted to get my nose pierced eventually and she gave me some recommendations for jewelry. I will definitely come back to Starr in a few months for my nose piercing. She's great. Starr pierced my tragus today. I was nervous going in but for no reason whatsoever. Starr was very sweet, personable, and chatty in a nice, distracting way. And I love my piercing to boot. She showed me the earrings available and how much they all were. I think the least expensive is $70 and the most expensive $120 maybe? and the price of the piercing itself is included. Cash only, which she told me before we started. (I read it on Yelp before going in.) The earring I wanted (a basic crystal stud) was $70. They had 4 sizes of the same stud for the same price to choose from. I went about 1 p.m. on Friday and there was no wait. One thing I was unsure of before doing this today is if appointments are needed -- but I get the idea it's almost entirely walk-ins. The piercing itself hurt mildly for maybe 2 seconds and then completely pain-free the rest of the day. I was nervous for no reason. You're in good hands here. read more

Holy sh*t it hurts. So I went in today to get both my nipples and my VCH. Figured I'd take the plunge and get it all at once . I heard so many good things about Starr so I came down to get this done. She started with my nipples . Definitely hurts I won't lie. I almost reconsidered getting the other one done . Starr is fast with her hands! So once I had them done I figured the VCH would be a piece of cake. Oh was I wrong. That pain was serious !!! Now it's been about 10 minutes since I walked out and I'm actually good . The pain is immediate and then it's gone. I'm sure tomorrow I'll be singing another tune. Lol. I'm glad I did it all at once though. Got it all over with! Star is great! I just remembered to write a review because I went to get a new bar and the piercer specifically asked if I got it done by her, asserting she's 1 of 3 people that pierce properly in New York. Not sure how true that is, BUT I will say I never had an issue with my piercing and all of my other friends had issues with excessive puss, scars, and cheese grating. A week or so later the septum ring fell out (by no fault of Starr's... I had a terrible cold so I think all of the nose blowing/tissue use just jostled it). I couldn't get it back in, so I went to Pure for some help. I feel terrible that I can't remember the name of the guy who helped me, but he was equally awesome. I remember he was into biking & was studying something related to genetics. Again, really friendly & didn't make me feel clumsy for not being able to get it back in myself. While I'm at it, the front desk guy was really friendly too. Definitely no attitude in this place, which is a really refreshing change. The only small negative- since they don't take appointments, it's a little difficult to get in with her. I tried about 4 different weekends until she was available, but it's SO worth it. read more
