I'm so happy I've found Nini Bakery! It's such a quaint, mom and pop, Chinese bakery that has all of your classic childhood favorites like hot dog bread and the pineapple boroh! Of course they also have the roll cake slices and classic fruit cakes for special occasions! I was also pleasantly surprised by their oyster vermicelli! We ordered two cakes, the Crispy Cake and the Fresh Mango Cake. Both were outstanding and our guest could not stop complimenting the taste and quality. The fresh mango cake had mango pieces and cream between the cake layers and was beautifully decorated with thinly sliced mangos and other fresh fruits. We were so happy with this bakery that we planned to order 150-200 pieces of pastries for an event. However; we were surprised that they did not offer any volume discount for such a large order. I can't understand the logic of this business owner. Because of this, we decide to choose another option. We will still order our cakes here but they lost our business on large orders. read more

I have always lived around this area where the small plaza is, and the bakery is very small and run down looking. Some of their bread is very good, like the taro swirl bun, and the hot dog breads. I came here one day, as usual, to get some bread to take home, and I picked out a taro bun, and there was a hair in the packaging, either on top or in the actual bun. I was quite disgusted and put it back and picked out another one. I heavily suggest that you check through the packaging before purchasing any bread here. Overall, the bread here is okay, and it's a very convenient place to go to get bread for school or for a quick bite, but JJ Bakery (which is only another street down) and 85C are definitely much better, more sanitary, and have wider variety in bread. I ended spending $10.32 on 3 hot dog breads, 1 taro bun, and 1 egg tart. read more

The Creators of the cute crab shaped pastry !!! Not in the best looking plaza, at first sight and B rating, i was ready to leave. (the bf always says you can buy an A ) However, i wanted to give this place a chance and inside i found a small selection, but an interesting collection. I was immediately drawn to these cute crab shaped and pig shaped buns! The disappointment came later when i ate my crab pastry and found there was nothing inside except 2 raisins for eyes. No Dollop of cream or chocolate, which would have been an excellent surprise!! The bread was sadly a little dry. However, i did find a chocolate bun with raisins and chocolate chip which was really yummy. it had some tiny chopped nuts and a good amount of chocolate chips. It was quite dense, so probably something you would share and not eat in one sitting. I would def get me another one of these if i ever return. Girls working were helpful and sweet! read more

shocking myself writing a 5 star review for an asian bakery. growing up in SGV, i've been in my fair share of asian bakeries, from diamond to kee wah to fortune and many more. nini bakery had excellent customer service and a yummy product! i chose nini because i needed a taro crispy cake and wanted to get one near work. i called the day of to place an order for the cake and it was no problemo. the lady that helped me on the phone was super nice. i got to pick chocolate or vanilla base and you could put fresh fruit in the middle. the only downside is, since i chose the taro crispy cake, they don't put cream on it (which is actually an upside in my family) so they can't write anything on it. they also pre-cut the cake into little rectangles for you and the whole thing is wrapped in saran wrap to keep from falling apart. not the most aesthetically pleasing, but the cake was pretty yummy. when i went to pick up the cake, they were prompt and also gave me a coupon for my next visit. they have a lot of pastries in the bakery, i think i'd definitely return. parking is plentiful as this is located in a little strip mall. read more

Who said you can't have Turkey for dessert?! I love visiting this little bakery in Rowland Heights! Although the place is small, they are constantly stocked with delicious fresh pastries, bread, and cakes. Customer service is excellent and they are very helpful in explaining things in English since a lot of the labels are in Chinese. Parking can be a pain to find since its located in an Asian plaza. Recently I was driving around frantically on Thanksgiving trying to find an Asian bakery that was open so I could bring over a cake to celebrate with my bf's family. Luckily Ni Ni Bakery was open and once I walked in I saw the most glorious turkey cake! It actually looked like a turkey too with golden brown skin and thighs and wings! For $27 I had to get it and it was surely the talk of the night when I bought this amazing cake over. Most of the time, desserts that look amazing aren't always the tastiest so I didn't have high expectations of this turkey cake, although I was completely blown away! This turkey cake was actually a black forest cake (chocolate and raspberry) with frosting and caramel outside. It was moist and light and not overwhelmingly sweet. I also love all the additional fruit decorations around the cake. It was a big hit during Thanksgiving and I really hope they keep making these awesome and creative cakes! I kind of don't want to review this place just because I love their cakes so so much and I don't want to reveal my secret weapon. But Every time I need a cake for last minute on a family birthday or a get together, they always have one available, and they're all so delicious. I like my cake soft, fluffy, moist, and impacted with fruits. I love strawberry and mango in my cakes, so this place is literally my favorite cake right now. The custom cakes here are light and delicious especially the mango covered cake. Taro and strawberries in their cakes are fresh. The staff are honest, letting us know if a cake in the case would be able to be served the following evening. Since it was not as fresh, they had us order one and pick it up the next morning. I've been to countless bakeries trying to find the right cake for all the many occasions I throw or participate in. And I should get some sort of commission from this review because I recommended to all my family and friends and they love it. They have a variety of cake (chocolate & white) with cream filling and endless amount of fruit filling. I've had the strawberry and mango or just strawberries. Thanks to Michelle T.'s review, I went in search of the crab shaped bread. I walked in one morning searching and hunting for my crab in carb form in the shelves and trays. I scoured the bakery looking in every nook and cranny and my heart sank as I became painfully aware that they did not have the crab-shaped bread that I had my heart set on. =( then....my frown turned upside down as I caught sight of another suprising animal formed by bread...a pig! the pig was just as delicious as it was cute =) oh and the other taiwanese pastries were delicious as well...pork-sung and pickled mustard bread, sweet corn with hot dog pieces baked like a danish, and of course custard buns with little happy faces drawn on top...cuteness and tastiness = happiness! read more

YAY! It's another bakery--how I *heart* asian bakeries! Small bakery indeed, but they are packed with a lot of baked goodies. I noticed now though that they seemed to have divided their bakery to hold a section of savory breads--such as a flaky bread (sau bing) with beef or other fillings. There was also some wheat bread with tuna. I was craving something sweet though, and as for my typical bakery runs, anything with red bean or taro is bound to satisfy. So scoping out the bakery, I pinpointed my objects of desire--red bean MOCHI bread, and for what--$1.00!! That's got to be the cheapest red bean mochi bread I've ever found! Not only that, they had TARO MOCHI too! I was going to jump for joy in the bakery. What made it even better was that, this wasn't a typical mochi bread with filling, it had somewhat of a soft, sponge cake texture added to it! YUM! There was also some "crispy taro bread" that I was eyeing, but decided to save it for my next trip. On the way out, I noticed they had humongous cream puffs hidden behind the clear fridge doors. Delicious!!! Stumbled in here randomly on Saturday morning. The breads and cakes are around $1-2 depending on what you get. Tried the spicy vegetable bread (picked vegetable) and boy was it good. I was holding off on reviewing Nini until I tried their cakes, but alas, my plans to overindulge were thwarted, so this review is just for their pastries. And, simply put, it's bakeries like these that make me realize how terrible the Chinese bakeries in Seattle truly are. My first bite into these fluffy fresh pastries was bittersweet: the bliss of their awesomeness mixed with the realization that I'll never find anything as good up in Seattle. They had a pretty good selection of still-fresh pastries even when I went in around 4pm, though they had run out of things like the pork sung buns already. Prices for most buns averaged around $1 to $1.50, which is a tad higher than places like Sheng Kee, but definitely worth the minor price difference. I highly recommend trying their cheesy green onion pork sung buns, toasted a bit at home for extra deliciousness. As of the week prior to this review, they were still running a buy one get one free special on their cakes (they have a pretty large collection of single serving cakes), which I imagine is a great deal to get in on, so get going! Edit (06/05/10): So I tried some of their cakes (NY cheesecake, tiramisu, and some mango spongecake), and while they're of decent three star quality, they're not nearly as good as JJ's. So stick to the awesome pastries here, and then pop over to JJ for some delicious cake. read more

couldn't decide what to get here because ..i wanted to stray from what i usualy get. which is taro or red bean mochi. i finally settled on the green onion and pork sung.. sesame covered. flaky bread.. it was not that great.. kind of oily.. and i think the sesame was overkilled.. or SOMETHING gave it a slight bitter taste.. my friend bought a pork sung. with like flaky top.. i think they kind of skimped on the pork sung. but the texture was good! recently i had a birthday cake from there.. made me realize i loooooove LOVE asian cakes as opposed to american.. since its so light and perfectly sweet!! i think i'd rather go to the diamond bar branch.. or just stick to my usual.. taro mochi.. or red bean mochi maybe.. the other breads don't seem that great.. read more

I heard about this bakery from work because my supervisor used to bring in some bread from this bakery. I live locally and was really excited to visit because I have never heard of this place prior. Unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing, at best. I just left this bakery and it so run-down looking. They do not have a big selection of breads like 85 degree bakery does. When I walked-in, I was not greeted or acknowledged at all. Even as I looked at the bread selection, they did not ask me if I had any questions or anything, the entire time I was ignored. I wonder if they thought I was not Chinese/did not speak Chinese. When I finally selected a bread, I asked them in Mandarin Chinese if the "butter bread" had a chocolate version because that was the bread my supervisor bought that I liked. The lady at the counter just told me that the one I selected was "butter" flavor and that they do not have the chocolate one available. I tried to find out more information so I asked if they only make it on certain days, or if they still make that selection. She did not answer my question and tried to waive me off by saying that they do not have it available. My next question would have been "do they make it anymore?" but her tone of voice and her body language was so impolite that I really doubt I would ever return. Parking also sucks at this location. The store is super small itself and it is easily to feel crowded as soon as more customers enter. They do not have a big selection of pastries or cakes here. I don't know how this bakery had such good reviews, but I caution anyone coming here if they are not Chinese. After I left the bakery, I tried the butter bread they made and it tasted mediocre. I had a really bad experience once with one of the girl that works at the counter , she charged me the free news paper and when I asked for my money back she gave me the 3rd degree and was mouthing off stuff like : what is the big deal ? It's just 50 cents ? , I told her she had an awful attitude and walked out to my car which was parked right out front , and no joke I heard her scream inside and started to scream profanity ..needless to say I never returned to this place because I could not understand how they would allow someone like that to work there and serve their customer, plus their bread isn't so great that I can't do without and there are plenty of Chinese bakeries around with better bread and pastries. So that was nearly one year ago, and just last week my mom had ordered a birthday cake and wanted me to pick it up , and I was pleasantly surprised by this experience. The girls that worked there that day are so much better, they were friendly and courteous, OK so this is an improvement on the customer service, and I must say the cake is so nice the way it's designed I have not seen it anywhere else. Later that night I tastes the cake it had two layers inside which is different then the other birthday cakes I have tried from other bakeries in this area, the cake was fluffy and light it was not too sweet and the filling was mango and crispy pastry, the cake was done with fresh cream, over all was delicious without being too heavy. I am not Asian, and sadly I do not live near any Asian bakeries. Fortunately for me, I have a co-worker who is Asian, and also is surrounded by Asian bakeries where he lives. This affords me the luxury of eating anything and everything he brings to work from this bakery, when he's too full to eat it. The pastries here are exotic; to me, anyway. By far, my favorite is the pastry buns with red bean paste in the middle. Hmm... what's it called? I don't know, but chances are if the pastry bun looks like an animal or a crab, it's going to taste delicious ... and nothing like an animal or a crab. I may have to make a special trip and their other baked goods so that I can be a little bit more knowledgeable, and not have to refer to it by a type of creature. This Chinese bakery has probably some of the best pastries and desserts in the area. They are a small bakery, but they are almost always busy. You'll feel a bit claustrophobic when more than 5 people are in the store, and they constantly run out of stuff. So it's better to go early than late. Everything is baked fresh daily, so you're never going to get something stale here. They have some unique items like a sushi-style pastry (seaweed wrapped around a thin layer of bread and filled with potato salad, ham, and veggies), Chinese shao-bing with egg, mayo, and ham, and croissants with potato/egg salad to name a few. They also have your traditional Chinese pastries, but their stuff is the best! This bakery's desserts and cakes are decorated very nicely, and they are usually topped with an arrangement of fruits and glaze. It's not your average $10 cake decorated with cream from Albertsons. These cakes have a modern design to them, and the cream is always light never heavy. The desserts are not sugary but rather lightly sweetened so you can actually taste the flavor of these treats. Also, this bakery is creative in their mesh of flavors (chocolate and blueberry is one example) where your taste buds will be jumping for joy with eat bite. The breads and pastries are great for breakfast, snack, or lunch (if you have a small appetite). Their wide selection means you'll never be bored with their food, and you can have a different pastry everyday of the month. Oh, did I mention that they also have these awesome little cream puffs and individual-sized cheesecakes?
