This is a small bakery in a very busy plaza that has plenty of parking but very busy. It took me a while to park but I was determined to visit them. It had been a long time since I had had them and was in the area. I was not leaving without stopping by. I finally found parking and walked in, they had their different bread on display with some having samples available for you to try. They are very casual grab and go type of place. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but got something similar. I got a chocolate roll cake and when going to checkout I saw these huge muffin looking like bread. The guy behind the counter was very nice and trying to explain to me what the were but he didn't speak much English, instead he called a younger person to help me and she was super friendly and helpful. I decided to try one and I wish I would've purchased more than one since it was so fluffy and tasty! I came back in a different occasion and the didn't have that fluffy muffin thing and it sounds like it's a Saturday thing. I will be back on a Saturday to try to get ahold of at least one. read more

I saw the egg tarts on their Yelp page and went to buy some. The lady informed me that they don't make them anymore. Not to worry, they have a good selection of other baked goods. As you enter the bakery, the cashier is straight ahead. To the right are shelves with freshly baked breads and pastries. Each item is individually wrapped, this is worthy of mentioning! There are no concerns that other customers have touched the food. I purchased two Black Forest pastries, two rolls topped with nuts and seeds and some Red Bean Buns. The prices are very reasonable (photos attached). They are located on the first floor of the Diamond Plaza shopping center in Rowland Heights. There are several restaurants and shops and the parking lot is usually very busy. I did notice a driveway to underground parking lot, fortunately I didn't have to go there, I found parking near the bakery. We didn't enjoy our pastries with coffee in the morning. First time visiting this Duke Bakery location here at Diamond Plaza in Rowland Heights. They have fresh baked goods and they use red yeast in their buns. I like coming here because it tastes fresh and their bins are large in size when compared to other Taiwanese Bakeries. Service was ok at this location. Took awhile to ring up my order and the prices at the register didn't match the ones on the tags. I got a lot of their match uji croissant bread and it's quite filling if you eat the whole thing. They also sell cakes and individual slices. I've gotten before at other locations and it's fresh and not too sweet. Parking is a nightmare at this Diamond Plaza. Got hit w a sugar craving and swerved straight into Duke Bakery. Scooped up an Uji Matcha roll and some Milk Bread... both super fluffy, like the bread equivalent of a cloud that went to culinary school. Chinese bakeries seriously have softness down to a science. The selection was kinda meh, but to be fair, I showed up in the evening when everything good had probably already been adopted by earlier carb hunters. Guess I'll just have to come back for round two. Parking is absolute chaos!!! This bakery is located at the Diamond Plaza. It is shared with Cotti Coffee and Hey Chicken. They have variety of unique pastries. You can even sample some of pastries before purchasing. I tried Duke bakery in Pasadena years ago but it was closed down. I purchased Summer Snow and Carlbeli pastries after sampling. Service was okay. The cashier from Cotti was able to take care of my purchase as the person working for Duke Bakery was not available. Ambiance is clean. Overall, I really didn't like the pastries I purchased. First time trying this place. Got the "Durian crepe cake" to go. Got home and tried it and it was sour, both taste and smell. Very disappointing. This bakery shop is connected to the businesses on each side of it. When you walk in, it's like one of those places that have a pretty solid selection of baked goods and takeaway bites. I came here right after I had dinner in this same lot because I wanted to grab some baked goods for the next day. I got some of the choco & blue mt. coffee bread and one of the banana lovers pastries. My friends and I are celebrating a birthday during lunch on Sunday at the newly opened Bao z dumpling. I was so happy that this bakery was in the same plaza so I could pick up a cake and take to the restaurant. This bakery opens at 10 am and our lunch was at 11 am so it was perfect timing. I walked in around 10:30 am and the staff and a few kids were putting bread onto the bread rack. I walked over to the cake section and was excited to see they had cakes there already. So I asked my friend to pick a cake she likes and she stood there for a while just staring at the cake display. Asked her what's wrong and she didn't say anything so I took a good look at the cakes and to my surprise ... all the cakes look terrible. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture, but they all look a bit deformed, slanted, deflated, dry, not pretty or appetizing like a normal cake should. All the cakes (long one, round ones, slices) all the same ... not fresh, like it's been sitting there since yesterday or maybe even days before. I asked my friend again to pick and she said she couldn't pick one and that she doesn't even want a cake anymore. We eventually left the bakery and she told me all of them looked terrible that she couldn't force herself to pick a single one. I was at disbelief when I saw other people leave reviews about how the cake was not fresh and moldy and old, so I went to take a look myself and it all makes sense. I'd definitely skip this bakery at all costs.. the bread "looks" fresh but who knows if it even is. So my friend did mention that maybe the cakes in the display case were just for show and if we were to actually purchase one, they might bring a nice fresh one out to us from the back ... but after thinking about it, I highly doubt that's going to happen and definitely don't want to risk it. Came across this bakery in the Diamond Plaza in Rowland Heights and decided to get a loaf of their milk bread. The store is very nice and spacious. Instead of using trays, there are mini carts for customers. There are many free samples for customers to try. They also sell drinks. I ended up only getting a loaf of milk bread as planned even though I was tempted to get others after trying the samples. I do need to control myself when it comes to carbs! She offered suggestions as to what to get but we ended up getting the chocolate and walnut cookies. I've been to many Duke locations but it is my first time here. They share a space with Hey Chicken and some drink shop. Plenty of breads available when I arrived. Unfortunately, the quality falls short of the Duke brand here. I always get the pumpkin bread but the pumpkin bread here is overbaked. It doesn't have the soft squishy texture that other locations offer. The shape also looked very off as the ones I normally get are more flat in shape and less of a browned color, but these are puffy and browned. The filling is very little compared to what I'm used to and the bread isn't soft. Almost as if it's not fresh, which goes against the duke motto as I've been told before that they never keep day old bread and everything is fresh daily. Maybe it's just not baked correctly. The cashier is also very rude and did not talk at all during the checkout process. It seemed like I was burdening her by buying some bread. She just threw the receipt and walked away after I paid. There is a language barrier between the cashier but she has a translation device to help translate when you have questions. We've been buying the mango mousse cake from Duke's Bakery for years, and it's always been a family favorite until now. We called ahead to pre-order the cake a couple days ago and I picked it up for my son's birthday, and the experience was beyond disappointing. The mousse was frosted in the middle, like it had been frozen for far too long, and later we discovered mold on the bottom of the cake. Serving that at a birthday celebration was both embarrassing and alarming from a food safety standpoint. Something has definitely changed here. The cakes not only look different, but they taste off too. This bakery feels like it's under new ownership, and unfortunately, the quality has taken a huge step backwards. The taro pork sung bread was also stale and the pork sung smelled funny. The green tea red bean bread was half in size that we used to have. They all must have been days old. We spent around $40 dollars and threw the rest of the bread away. We stayed in Irvine so we went to the Irvine location the next day and bought the same thing again. Everything tasted so fresh! One of my absolute favorite Asian bakeries of all time and I know you'll love it too. Duke Bakery was started by a Taiwanese pastry chef who created pastries that combined both European and Japanese influences. Hence, the soft, fluffy breads that they offer with a variety of fusion flavors!! My all-time favorite is the Taro Angel which is a ring-shaped bread filled with fresh (and real) taro that's not too sweet but super creamy. I could eat the entire thing but I always stop myself so that other people can try it too before I devour it. I tried the Hokkaido Azuki and Milk Toast for the first time which is their #1 item and WOW. There was a generous portion of azuki swirled inside when I tore it apart. I would definitely recommend if you're a red bean lover. I know the prices seem expensive but the portion sizes are big which means each pastry has multiple servings! read more

I just discovered this bakery and it is sooo good! I was looking for soft bread and I tried multiple chinese bakeries in the SGV area like Diamond and Kee Wah but the bread there was not soft :(. Then I tried Duke's and I finally found soft fluffy bread! They have all different kinds of bread flavors here too that they don't have at some other bakeries, and they even have free samples!! At first glance, the prices are more expensive than 85 (around $5-6), but since most of the breads are about double the size of 85's size, i feel like the price is not too much more. 85 was my favorite Chinese bakery, but now i have two favorites! read more

Duke Bakery has been around for awhile and I remember this location opening up in Diamon Plaza. To be honest, with such a plethora of Asian bakeries on hand in the area (85c, Paris Baguette, Tous Les Jours, etc.), I just never had the chance to try out Duke until now. I guess my expectations were not only too high, but not met either. We got the: 1) Sesame Cheese Cake: -Black sesame cheese cake slice, looks like a mini castella. -Light sesame flavor, a bit dry, but fluffy enough. 2) Parmesan Cheese Cake: -Similar to the sesame cheesecake but you get the savoriness of the parmesan. Reminds me of Cheesetella, but only a small piece. -Also a bit dry but it's alright. 3) Mexican Coffee Bun: -Not bad! Also a bit dry, but good with a drink. -Decent coffee taste. 4) Hokkaido Double Cheese Bread: -One of the better bread that we ordered. -Also a bit dry with the powdered sugar, but 5) Banana Cheese Bread: -Not that great, tasted overly ripe with the filling...even the cheese couldn't balance out. 6) Red Wine Pineapple Bread: -Major offender, it was so bad it was awful to eat it. -Strangely over ripe, almost chemical taste with some walnut mixed in. All in a dry bread pastry. -I just had to toss it out after a couple bites and this was a bread I got the evening before so I could eat for breakfast. Didn't look like it went bad at all, at least on the outside. 7) Chocolate Buns (6 pieces): -Not bad, chocolate flavor buns with chocolate cream filling inside, better if you heat it up in the microwave and the chocolate is a bit gooey. -Good, but not amazing. Overall, not a great experience and I don't plan on coming back unless someone else treats me or in a while since maybe, I might have just ordered the wrong items. read more

I saw very typical things like cakes, egg tarts, and garlic bread. But they also have very unique choice like Chrysanthemum bread! Pretty unique, but I personally felt the prices were a bit expensive. $3.50 for an egg tart? but the egg tart was actually phenomenal. Very thick, sweet, and filling. My first time here with the intention of picking up a birthday cake. There were few options but what I got was their signature matcha red bean cake- gorgeous with taste to match. I was hesitant with the red bean part but the cream was very smooth and the taste more rich and earthy versus sweet. Try a slice! It's memorable. As for their breads, if I could I'd buy all of them. The gal who helped me said that they don't use sugar syrups and try to limit the amount of sugar added, also sticking to simple ingredients. It's true, the feel and taste of the breads are less sweet than let's say Paris baguette, 85 degrees, and tous Le jour. The Euro-Japanese bakery however doesn't skip out on quality, softness and freshness! Some of the breads appear too much- for example the double cheese bread which has walnuts, cream cheese and cheddar on a what bun... but trust me it's amazing without leaving you to feel any grease or sugar rush. It's not too much. Lastly one of the memorable sandwiches I got was the duke sandwich! At first it appears like ham and cheese but it's white bread with sweet butter, thinly sliced egg and thin ham. It reminded me of something they'd serve during afternoon tea- so cute and simple but satisfying. On Christmas Day 12/25/2022, I wanted to get a bag of goodies from Duke's Bakery in Rowland Heights for my Mom, my brothers + family, and my cousin. This was my 1st time visit here. It's a cute bakery shop. Quite spacious. And it has miniature carts for the customers to gather their pastries/breads... how convenient! You can actually remove the basket from the cart to place on the counter... very nicely designed! It didn't take me long to decide on which pastries/breads to get as I had already knew what I wanted based on some of the reviews I read beforehand. I got 4 of each pastry below x 4 so 16 total. I didn't know Miss Durian was $8.00 until now as I'm typing this review... oh well we live and learn LOL. Yeah, preliminary bill came out to be $88+ for pastries only LOL... just a tad pricey... darn durian, but I do love my durian LOL. I have to say the pastries are larger than the normal $2.50+ pastries that I get from other bakeries. 1. Miss Durian $8.00 - For an $8.00 pastry, it was small in size and durian filling was very lacking... need 3 times more durian filling. Durian taste wasn't that appealing... I've eaten plenty of durian so I know my durian LOL! If I can't smell the durian, it's not the real deal LOL. Very disappointed with this one! Will not buy again! 2. Taro Angel $4.50 - Bread was soft, size was big, but taro filling was lacking a bit... need to fill it up with more taro! May buy again if taro filling improves! 3. Hokkaido Azuki & Milk Toast $5.00 - Very tasty toast! Good size bread. I love this one the best. More red bean filling would have been nice though. Will buy again! 4. Sesame $4.50 - I like this one the least. Bread wasn't that soft. Did not care for the black sesame texture and taste... very grainy! Will not buy again! The lady at the register was really nice. She didn't speak much English if at all. She started speaking to me in Mandarin and I'm like I speak Cantonese or at least I try LOL. She said she didn't speak Cantonese that well, but she did attempt it and I thought she did extremely well... better than my Cantonese IMHO. Thank you! Anyway, she introduced me to their VIP program... if I spend $100 or over, I can join their VIP program and get 10% off all future purchases. She recommended I either get a $20 gift certificate or buy more pastries to get to $100. I went with the gift certificate so I can try their other pastries at another time... so my total bill came out to be over $100... Merry Christmas to Duke's LOL AND my next batch of pastries/breads better be impressive LOL. They have a location in Arcadia so I'll be going to that one since I'm in that area more often than in Rowland Heights. However, I've been coming to Rowland more often lately. Just went around while waiting for the table at Chubby Cattle but ended up with a bag of pastries. The way they offered samples to customers was amazing to me. So surprised that all of them were fresh and light sweet. I really enjoyed the customer service. I bought a tiramisu long size, but I wasn't sure if it would stay fresh until I finished my dinner.
