Homemade Khao Piek Sen ( Laos Noodle Soup )
    Veronica R.

What a fantastic find! The homemade noodle soup is something special--the broth was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, and the fresh herbs added a wonderful aroma. The Pad Thai was just as great, not too sweet, with perfectly cooked noodles and a generous portion of fresh veggies. The service here is warm and welcoming, making the dining experience even better. It's a small spot, but that just adds to the charm

We had an amazing dinner here. My husband and I are big Thai - Asian foodies so to find Laotian & Asian Cuisine so close to home is definitely a score! Located in a strip shopping center on Federal Hwy just south of Hillsboro on the right hand side, this hidden gem is in between Pet Supermarket and Pet Vet. The GPS originally took us to the Shell station and then to the back of the shopping center, so if this happens to you keep trying because you dont want to miss a meal here. The staff is so nice and attentive. The owner, who is also the chef came to the table to introduce herself. She's so nice and an amazing chef who takes pride in everything she cooks and serves. Now for the food: Started with Tom Yom Soup with Seafood. The soup had the perfect combination of sour and spicy with hints of lemongrass add in the mushrooms, shrimp, scallops and calamari and it was special. Beef Lemongrass was 4 skewers of tender beef that melted in your mouth and served with homemade peanut sauce. Drunken Noodles were a highlight. We ordered it with shrimp and it came with fresh vegetables. They make their own noodles and this dish should not be missed. If you're looking for something new and want to support local, do yourself a favor and put this restaurant on your list. I can't say enough good things about it and I can't wait to go back, and go back again and again!!!

Omg the food was so good. Lao food is really similar to thai food with a couple minor differences in terms of like main dishes! The yellow curry, pad khi mao and the chicken salad were all really good! The skewers are also bomb! The service was awesome despite having such a large group show up (we were an FAU club) and ugh, truly spectacular! Really loved this place and am for sure coming back!

My family and I had dinner here yesterday night, and all the the food tasted just like it was made at home, my favorite was the pork sausage and the chicken Laos salad that I ate, the mango and stick it rice was delicious as well. Servers and chef where super nice, this is a great place to eat.

hidden gem. they make their own noodles and sausage. I really don't know what they put in the sausage but it's heavenly. ( to die for I think they could sell it to other 5 star more predominant locations.) Anyway I love the service. They customize the dish for ingredients and spice level. Super personable. I learned some differenves about Laos and Berma. They have nice seats and decor and play a video about Laos. Or was an experience. It's nice that they really listen to what you're wanting and explain everything patiently. I got the sai gol fried rice ( homemade sausage) paired well with the papaya salad ( don't get if you don't like tomatoes) spice level 2.5 for us. We missed out on the Laab ( sw as larvae) chicken. I will be back for lunch so i can ride the wave and try it. They have shrimp Laab. Hubby loved the home made noodles pad see ew was perfect

Decided to stop by and try something new. I live in plantation/davie but my gym is located right across the street. I was in between the yellow curry and mango curry as those are two dishes I don't normally find in Thai restaurants. There were other Laotian dishes that looked fantastic and will try in the future. Mango curry was fantastic. Loas dessert with banana taro and sweet potato was also fantastic paired with the chocolate sauce. Staff was so so so nice and I cannot wait to be back!

We had a wonderful lunch here today added to by the warm and welcoming personality of the owner, Vatsana. We learned about her background and how the restaurant was founded. It's named after her son, who sadly passed away. The restaurant was just featured in the local newspaper's food section regarding new and "now open" restaurants. It is "undiscovered" at the moment, so take advantage and go now. Although the name says sushi, the chef they had originally hired left. That being said, I'd order the Laotian and Thai food, anyway. Spices are a bit different in food from Laos and there are a number of new to Americans offerings, but the Thai namesakes will be familiar enough -- even if you are not adventurous. We started with a couple soups. He had their Tom Kha soup. That's the one with a coconut based broth. There were lots of mushrooms and scallions in it along with his chosen protein - shrimp. To make it up to your spice level, just add some hot oil as desired. I had their version of won ton soup. It was largely broth -- made flavorful with the addition of dried fried garlic -- and 2 pork filled dumplings along with tiny bits of veggies. I also tried their beef with lemongrass appetizer. This is a Lao meat satay with thinly sliced cooked beef (instead of chicken) served on bamboo skewers. There were 4 to the order. The dish came with two dipping sauces -- a sweet one and a peanut based one. I alternated both. We also tried their pork riblets -- marinated Laotian style then deep fried. These were addictive. They were served with a sweet sauce with red pepper flakes. We both agreed we'd order this choice again, definitely. I'm sure we will return again for another good meal and to explore more Laotian cuisine.

Niran's Kitchen, 61 S. Federal Highway Deerfield Beach. Last night, after having a drink at the Tiki Bar in The Cove, we went to Niran's for dinner. It was quiet when we were there (around 6 PM) and we had a great experience. I am kicking myself for not visiting sooner, but whenever I saw the reviews, I sort of filed it away for the future. Without exception, this is the best Thai/Laotian food I have had in South Florida. The combination of the two cuisines is perfect. I find some Thai food a little too sweet and formulaic, but everything we had for dinner was outstanding. I first tasted Thai food when living and working in Washington, DC in 1981 and to say that it was a revelation is an understatement. DC was teeming with options from various parts of Asia and you could always find some little spot serving up Thai or Burmese or Laotian or Cambodian dishes. This is the DC equivalent of those places. But lately, there has been a trend for Thai restaurants to hedge their bets and call themselves Thai/Sushi and I absolutely hate it when I see a restaurant try and offer both, very disparate menu items. After so many disappointing Thai meals, I don't set foot in any restaurant that cannot make up their mind as to where they place their menu priorities. They readily admit to being more of a beer place than a wine place, but we had a great glass of Chardonnay (I think it was Chloe and it's a good match for the food because it's not overly oaky or buttery). We started with spicy bowls of the classic Thai soup, Tom Yum with shrimp. It was perfectly made and did not have a bunch of chewy and woody stuff floating around in it. Just identifiable vegetables and aromatics and shrimp. I used to love Laarb, which is sort of a salad with delicious and light sauce and minced chicken. In classic Laarb, they don't use that ground stuff you see in Publix. Real Laarb features minced chicken breast cooked with spices and placed on top of the onions and greens. It's addictive, if done correctly. Niran's version is authentic (well, MY interpretation of authentic because it's savory and not sweet) and we ate every bit of it. It was very hard to decide between our next selection because we were torn between trying something new or seeing how they did with another classic that is often ruined by the substandard Thai restaurants in the area. We went with the Drunken Noodles because the noodles are made in-house. There are some options to add, such as shrimp, chicken, pork, etc. Okay, I'll lose a few people here, but while I am not a vegetarian and generally eschew anything that is remotely healthy, I love tofu. Yes, I do. But I don't like it fried. So, I asked if it could be steamed before being incorporated into the dish and the answer was, of course, yes. When the dish arrived, it was absolutely perfectly spiced, and I came very close to ordering a second one. But we were really full and had somewhat foolishly sampled from the spicy condiment tray they provided, so I kind of felt like I'd had my quota of hot food for the night. But again, it needed nothing, you don't need those fiery little condiments! The meal was under $100, which included 2 Chardonnays apiece. I don't know what I did with the receipt, but I remember it was around $90. I live about 6 miles from Niran's and I cannot believe I waited this long to eat there. The husband-and-wife team that run it are truly caring and I'm already planning my next visit. NOTE--I also posted a similar review in the Let's Eat South Florida FB page.

The food was outstanding and our server was friendly. The kids "working" were doing a great job, too. Cute and well behaved. My only complaint was the food took forever to get and my boyfriend was almost finished by the time I received my order. None of this mattered because the food was so delicious we would have waited all day!!! We dined on a Tuesday and it was very slow and for two people less than $40. We will be back.....BEWARE, the hot stuff in the metal container is SPICY! We both laughed and cried from the initial kick lol

The delicious food and friendly atmosphere make Niran's Kitchen one of my favorite places I've found in Deerfield Beach. I don't know anything about Loatian cuisine, but there hasn't been a dish I've tried that wasn't just amazing. From the soups, to the curry, to the cashew and veggies, and beyond, every single bite has been extraordinary.

    First visit!! Very excited.

First visit. My amazing fiancé is a Chef & restaurant owner. Big fan of Laotian cuisine. Devoured every bite: ecpertmy made Fresh rolls (that peanut sauce!!), Papaya salad, Drunken HOMEMADE noodles with tofu & Panang Curry with shrimp. Medium heat. Well balanced. Excellent service! And really clean bathrooms (runny nose due to the great sauces!). Put this on your list!!

We ordered the veggie fried noodles, crispy cheese wontons, veggie pan-fried dumplings and sesame chicken. The veggie fried noodles were fantastic, had a lot of variety of vegetables, and even bok choy which I've never seen before in a noodle dish. The cheese wontons, while incredible, I'm pretty sure these had crab in them, they definitely weren't just filled with cheese. It had a lot of flavor, but if I were a vegetarian, I might ask the server if they have crab in them. They come with that typical rangoon plum/duck sauce which compliments it perfectly. The pan fried dumplings were just okay. They weren't hot at all which is strange considering we ordered it there fresh. I would definitely skip on these next time. The sesame chicken is a huge portion! It is definitely dark meat, which they don't point out on the menu and I wish that they would considering the person I was with does not eat dark meat, but that just meant more leftovers for me! Very flavorful. I do wish it was a bit more crispy on the outside, but it was still good. We also ordered a taro bubble tea, which unfortunately didn't come out until halfway through the entire meal. They didn't ask how much sugar we wanted in it, which is what they typically do at the other locations, so it was very sugary. With a bubble tea, a diet coke, and all the food we ordered it ended up being a little over $60. Considering we ate there, and both took leftovers home, it's definitely a good deal in terms of quantity. I will definitely be back to Serious Sanji to try other things
